Let me begin by saying that this CPU runs like lightning. It's *quick*. I bought one of these last September for £160, and it was money well spent. At £230, though, it's a bit pricey for an ageing technology. What I mean is, if you're prepared to spend £230 on a CPU, now that the i5/i7 CPUs have dropped a bit in price, you may as well spend about £300 and get yourself a decent i5 system, such asIntel i5-750 Quad Core Processor - 2.66 GHz, 8MB Cache, 2.5 GT/sec, Socket 1156, 45 nm, 3 Year Warranty, Retail BoxedIntel Desktop Board DH55HC - Motherboard - ATX - iH55 - LGA1156 Socket - SATA-300 - Gigabit Ethernet - video - High Definition Audio (8-channel)Corsair TWIN3X2048-1333C9 DDR3 1333MHz Memorythat buys into a newer technology and so will have a greater lifespan. This becomes especially pertinent if your current motherboard doesn't support the 1333MHz FSB that the Q9550 requires - you'll end up spending the same money if you need to upgrade your motherboard too.If all you are looking for is an upgrade to your existing computer without spending too much, either go forIntel BX80580Q8300 Q8300 Core 2 Quad Processor - 2.50 GHz,4MB Cache,1333MHz FSB,Socket LGA775,45 nm,3 Year Warranty,Retail Boxeda processor that I bought for my brother, which is just about the best value CPU I can find out there at the moment. However, this CPU also requires 1333MHz FSB. If your existing motherboard only supports 1066MHz FSB, I'd go forIntel Q6600 Core2 Quad 2.4GHz Processr - Retail 1066MHz FSB, 8MB Cache, Quad Corewhich is another excellent CPU.---If you are hell-bent on buying the Q9550 at its current price, let me reassure you that you are buying a quality product. For the layman, it scores 7.3 on the Windows 7 Index - not the most precise benchmark - but nonetheless an indication that it packs a punch. The 12MB of cache (6 per two cores) is also a feature that sets this CPU apart from the inferior versions (such as the Q9400, and the Q8xxx series) meaning that games in particular will be eaten up for breakfast by this CPU.It multi tasks superbly - my computer is always responsive, and at the moment, my hard drive is probably the limiting factor on system performance. I have the Q9550 paired with 8GB of 667MHz DDR2 RAM, a Gigabyte P45 motherboard and an ATI Radeon HD 4870 graphics card. The result is a system that handles everything that I can throw at it.Although I don't over clock CPUs (not my thing), I have read that this CPU can be over clocked using the stock heat sink to over 3GHz without any issues, provided you have a good quality motherboard. Talking of the heat sink, Intel have had a bit of stick about the quality of their heat sinks, I must say I had no problems installing the one that came with the CPU.

I have searched for over a year, watching prices on new products skyrocket, watching others stay the same. I had everything-1000 watt power supply, huge quiet case full of fans, Geforce 9800 GX2 video card, awesome motherboard. Finally, after much soul searching, internet bulletin board/forum searching I decided on this processor. I added 8 gig of ram. It rocks. It's stable. It is unbelieveably fast and runs everything my son can throw at it by way of gaming at the highest levels.Never a stutter. Runs Win7 (64bit). No glitches. First thing I've built from scratch and it actually works. There may be some other processors out there which have higher ratings, but, for my money, THIS WAS MORE THAN I EXPECTED.The new 'i-whatever' processors are out and the higher intel core extremes, but I can't see paying the price of a good used car for just a part of a gaming computer. The video card was pricey enough. Now I've got to find another video card to match to run them dual-banging to take care of the near future of gaming.

When I was a little tighter on cash, I had to get an LGA775 socket motherboard, as I had an E7500.At the current price, I wouldn't buy this.I bought it when it was around £210, so this is no longer a budget CPU, and is infact way over priced. If you can get it cheaper elsewhere, then do.It performs very well. It puts up a 7.3 on the system ratings and runs just about anything I throw it's way. This coupled with a GTX660 Ti can run games like Battlefield 3 really well on decent settings.Unfortunately, from what I've read, it can't be overclocked simply. The 2.83GHz isn't bad, but it would be nice if it were higher. If you're looking to build a new computer then I suggest a i5 2Ghz, which performance wise,is about the same, but much cheaper. You can get cheap motherboards these days that fit the sockets for around £50, so it would be a better alternative.Again though, when this was cheaper, it was a very good choice, now, not so much.

Let me start by saying that this is a phenomenal bit of kit. Coupled with a GTX460, I can now play all of my games on full spec at 1920x1080 (sans PhysX, sadly), and the speed of general computing has increased dramatically over my previous processor. The only problem I have with this chip is that it runs hot...very hot. In my opinion, the stock cooler is simply not sufficient for this processor, with my core-temps on full load hitting the high 60s and low 70s, which is really quite shocking for a chip running at stock speeds. For such a high price, one would have expected Intel to have provided a more efficient heatsink, but instead I am now going to have to buy an after-market one.If it wasn't for the heat issues,I would have awarded this processor 5 stars, as otherwise I am very happy with it.

First of all BIG PROPS to ANTonline who I got it through. Ordered it off amazon a week ago and after no notification of anything happening I emailed them this past monday. They told me it was back ordered and no telling when it would be in. So I cancelled and went through ANTonline. I had it on my doorstep by late wed morning with normal shipping. So first and foremost have to thank them. Now for the CPU. What else can be said ? Its by far the best bang for the buck left on the LGA 775 socket. I went from a core 2 duo 2.0 to this and man what a difference. I would reccommend this CPU for anyone still not wanting to upgrade their current rig to the "new" generation.

I usually buy all of my PC hardware from the EGG, but i caught this CPU here for a significant discount over what they charged, The performance to price ratio is outstanding and the Chip arrived Brand new in Retail box as advertised it also arrived a day early. I did not use the stock cooler because i refuse to ever try those pushpin fan's on any enthusiast motherboard i purchase, but from reviews i have read it isn't even worth the risk of damaging your board trying to push in and lock the thing.i Have not overclocked the chip & probably won't (No need for this build) oh and i did get the EO stepping model for those interested.

Got it to replace my Q6600. What a difference! Runs approx 10C cooler at idle and on any game using real temp log. Also with OCCT and all this with my old Q6600 stock fan as the base on the cooler that came with the Q9550 is much smaller and has less fins/cooling area from what I can see. Maybe the included cooler works just as good but I had this one and it works so good I don't need to use my Zalman cooler, nor make any chgs.Fast enough, I really don't need to OC as I'm not into bragging rights. I'm more into OC'ing memory and video cards which are the gaming workhorses.R.C.

I gotta say this is a great processor. I have an MSI X48C Platinum board with 4 gigs of DDR2 memory, ATI 4870 video card. I switched to 8 gigs of DDR3 here not to long ago and let me tell you my pc rocks. I could have went with the Intel I series of processors but after running this processoer I just can't see why i would. The price was right. I can play ANY game with no stutter and it's great for everyday and intensive applications. The new I core chips are prolly faster but really when you look at price vs speed... you can't go wrong if you go with this processor.

I received this processor as a Christmas gift so I could squeeze some more life out of my my 775 mobo, and I must say, it was a great buy. It compliments my GTX 560 Ti nicely and runs modern games like butter. Unfortunately I was ill-prepared with ample cooling and it runs hot enough to the point where my computer just shuts off. I've already ordered some Arctic Silver 5 and a Coolermaster to help combat this problem. I wouldn't stick with the stock Intel fan it comes with, go for something higher quality. Otherwise, fantastic processor.

Totally kick azz chip...Actually is the newer ver. of the Black Edition chip of same ... Newer because they included something in this model that the Black didn't have at time of manufacture ...The equivalent black edition spec. are the same except this Q9550 chip goes it one better look up the specs and see for yourself. ... Oh and the 3.0 is also the same spec. as this and you can overclock this chip up to almost 4.5 gig and it will run stable as long as you have a good strong cpu heatsink made for overclocking to keep it cool.

I, like many, am leery of purchasing electronic equipment used, but the cost advantage in doing so in a CPU chip were too overwhelming for me to discount. I was VERY PLEASED with this transaction as the chip performs flawlessly in my system. The seller even included a tube of heat sink compound, a nice added touch. With this processor replacing an aging E6300, I saw my system speeds almost double. My Gigabyte motherboard with socket 775 accepted it and started right up. No muss, no fuss. Very pleased!

Arrived on time, very quick, 3 days! The vender is a very nice person and goes out of her way to please a customer. The item was packed for shipping beyond what even the manufacture does. I had contact with her on a misprint in her post of the product, not a concerning problem, but the kindness was appreciated. The processor's home is aboard a Intel DX48BT2 motherboard, Zigmatek cooler, 4-2GB sticks Patriot DDR3 memory, Seagate 500GB hybred drive. OCZ 550W power supply & HIS 6450 graphics.

This chip is FAST! I upgraded from an AMD 3.2GHz X2 Black Edition proc and this one blows it away. All my games run way faster than runing them with the AMD chip. I was going to buy the Intel Q9650 proc but it didn't seem to be worth the extra $100+ for the added 170MHz that it gives you. I am glad I saved my cabbage since I don't think that there would have been a big difference from this proc to the 3.0 GHz Q9650. I recommend this chip for the performance and rock solid stability!!

Even though Intel and AMD have new generation processors, the Core 2 Quad Processor is still a great buy. I bought this CPU to install on a new (old) ASUS P5G4IT-M LX motherboard. After final assembly of my new computer, the Core 2 Quad came to life.I have two lap tops, one with an Intel Core i3 and the other with an Intel Core i7 processor. This Core 2 Quad has no trouble keeping up with these newer processors.DIY hobby builders, your can't go wrong with this processor.

Ok; so this isn't the most powerful CPU my motherboard can handle but the next step in power costs as much as this CPU costs all by itself and the increase in performance minimal so I got the thing. Entermediaplus (an Amazon seller) seems to be not only the friendliest Amazon used CPU dealer but when I mistakenly ordered the wrong CPU for a different motherboard from this one the took it back asap! I'm happy with the Q9550 and the boost it gives my PC!
