I've been using this CPU for a few months now and I have to say that it has performed consistently well even under demanding open-world games. Clearly it is not a high-end i7, but in terms of value for money, I think this CPU performs very well. As long as you are not streaming or rendering 4k video, you should be alright with this CPU. I have mainly used it for gaming and daily browsing, however it can cope with video editing. If you are looking to combo this CPU with a Graphics card, I would suggest pairing it with either an RX 480 or a GTX 1060, as from experience these two components can form a very capable mid-range gaming PC.One of the only negatives I have found with this CPU is slight stuttering in demanding open-world games such as Watch Dogs 2; in high-speed driving scenes I did experience some small frames drops but managed to tweak the setting to suit it.If you are looking for a PC with a solid upgrade path, I would suggest purchasing a Z170/Z270 Motherboard as you may decide you want to overclock in the future. Also, Intel have released their new series of CPU's- "Kaby Lake", so you might want to look into one of them. The equivalent of this CPU, offering marginal performance differences is the i5 7400. If it is cheaper I would suggest picking up one of these as it is better value, you could combo it with a Z270 or a more budget motherboard for great performance at a fairly low price. But to conclude this review, I was pleased with my purchase and strongly recommend it for a home, work or gaming PC. If you can pick it up for under £150 it is a good deal. (Sorry for the bad quality picture, I had to use my iPhone 6 which doesn't take well to RGB LED's)

Although this isn't officially supported for overclocking, almost any z-170 (such as the ASRock Pro 4s) can overclock the non-k cpus so long as you don't mind reverting the bios. I have mine clocked at 4.1-4.3 Ghz and it is noticeable how much faster it is and not much hotter either. Although if you go this route I would recommend water cooling to help the chip stay a little cooler and last a little longer, but I do recommend the 6400, or the 6500 depending on whichever is cheaper at the time you decide to buy.

Over clocked this bad boy to 4.2 ghz on a z170 Asus mother board and it works like a dream. For the price tag what's point in buying 7 series cpu for 2x the price when after 40minutes you can buy cheaper mother / cpu for more power without the worry of too much heat. I used an after market alphenon German cooler and it has no problems whatsoever so your choice just look up the options to save yourself money.

Pretty much plug and play, this is the retail version so comes with a heat sink and fan. CPU as expected and fan is quite enough. Not really put it under any real load but Lightroom opened up quickly with no real lag moving around the library. I couldn't really justify a higher spec machine for a hobbyist photo and light cad. Replaced a 5 year old Amd world's apart in performance.

Solid performing processor. I didn't need a K version because they was going into a mid-level computer being used for photo editing and video editing. It was paired with an MSI motherboard, an ssd, an EVGA GTX 950, and 8gb of DDR4 and it performs fantastically. I have a highly overclocked i5-3570k in another computer and it just barely beats this one in benchmarking.

I have not purchased an top of the line processor in years. In this case, we needed a 6th generation processor for testing, so we made the purchase. The processor's performance is very respectable. Its the fastest machine in the testing lab. If you are looking for performance, then a 6th gen or 7th gen processor is for you.

Bought this for my son for Christmas. It replaced his AMD FX6300. He wanted an FX9590 but after researching it I found out how much of a power hog it was and it needed a water cooler. I paired this with a Gigabyte Z170 HD3 motherboard and 8 gigs of Ballistix Sport ram. He has no complaints. :)

The processor functions pretty fast with the fact that this is a cheaper version than the 4690K processor. It is average priced for the latest generations of processors.I would recommend it if you are looking for a processor that wont be performing with high end engineering softwares!

nice processor. dont be put off by the lower clock sppeed the cpu will turbo up to 3.3 if it has to. the diffrence between this and the 6500 is not much for gaming as i did researched this when considering an i5 for gaming. overall great cpu although stock intel cooler is a bit loud

I already think that I am going for 5 years with this processor, I am very happy with the purchase, it does not heat up much or consume a lot of energy. For games it is good until games of 2019 some of 2020 runs perfect but it depends on the game I am talking about the top ones.

Admirable performance and runs everything I need it to. Won't be overclocking the machine this one went into (small case), but definitely meets my needs. That said, I did accidentally purchase the wrong i5, meant to go a step up from here. Oh well.

Needed to upgrade an office computer. A Core i3 would have been adequate for the user's needs, but I decided to up his box with a little more oomph. His machine should feel quite fast now considering that he was using a mid-range Core-2-Duo before.

The I5-6400, is a great processor, but it bottlenecks my GPU, I wish I would've known that before I purchased it, but even with the bottleneck I get around 70-150fps, on high to ultra settings at 1080p, depending on the game.

Nice and fast procesor, does everything i need it to do. I am able to run gta v (with a gtx 950) at very high settings and get about 45-60fps meaning this cpu can handle most games out just now. Would recommend!

I would say that it is more value for money than the 6500 due to the advertised clock speed is 2.7GHz however, it does boost upto around 3.2GHz when needed in more heavy CPU tasks. Comes with stock heatsink
