This is both an expansion to the original Guild Wars game (often referred to as Prophecies) and a stand-alone game on its own. You will require an internet connection to play the game as it is hosted on online servers, but there are no monthly fees to play the game - the only required cost is in buying the product, though the online shop offers various upgrades for anyone willing to spend a bit more money. The story-line is not great but this is a secondary distraction anyway serving to give greater cohesion between quests and missions.Guild Wars itself is now a little dated as a series. Visually it compares favourably to rivals such as World of Warcraft, but despite this the series is now almost five years old and, with the release of Guild Wars 2 still some time away, a vast majority of players have now moved on to other games (particularly as there hasn't been an expansion for a couple of years, though the developer continues to provide decent support). As a consequence of this the majority of players are now seasoned players with almost all of their characters at the level cap of 20. Finding a party in some of the lower areas is quite difficult, meaning that many players will be stuck with NPCs (non-player allies).Another issue with the game comes if you do not possess the other games in the series as there are many different skills (and hero options) in different games all of which are accessible to characters which have unlocked them. For this reason you may discover yourself competing or cooperating with players possessing access to a much larger pool of skills. This said, you are only permitted to enter missions and games with a maximum of 8 skills equipped (including only 1 "elite" skill). This serves to reduce such disparities, though new players may struggle to appreciate how certain skills interact with one another. The game features player versus player (pvp) and player versus environment (pve) modes with parties varying in size between 4 and 8 players on the team. There are also some special pve maps which have teams of 12 players though these are generally more difficult than the standard maps. The advantage of the factions campaign is that it also grants you access to a series of hybrid pvp competitive missions which incorporate both player and non-player allies and opponents. These missions are not available to players who do not possess this campaign.

Of the original three Guild Wars games (Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall) this is by far the best one. The story follows trainees from a monastery who have to fight against a plague which creates ghouls and walking corpses. Travelling through the city and it's slums, fight to discover the cause of the terrible plague. Ally yourself with one of the two factions and save the continent. As well as adding a brand new continent and a new campaign, Factions also adds two new classes; Ritualist and Assassin. The first uses spirits to aid allies or hinder enemies. The second uses stealth and combos to cripple their opponent and cause devastating damage. This is the expansion that got me interested in the Guild Wars game, and occupied me for hours. A great buy.

this is a great expansion, its a shame you can only play in one expansion at a time, hope they can fix that at some point. as you have to start a new charater each time, but this expansion gives you more character slots, and some great new characters too, aswell as updating the look of the old ones, its very oriental looking, i havent got too far into it yet but from what ive seen i think i will like it just as much as the others if not more.Your meant to get a fire imp too, but i havent claimed it yet!All in all a great add to GW :)

If you have a netbook or smaller, lighter spec laptop then this could be the game for you. An online game, so you have to be connected to the internet, role playing. Huge world to explore, massive number of playable characters. Super graphics which only need a light processor to run.Good for whiling away those hours on the train or sitting in Starbucks.

Great game! online Role playing game. You can play on your own or with friends. Be carefull though it can become addictive however the server keep a tab on how long have you been in the game and reminds you every 2 hours to take a break.
