My girlfriend and I play Guildwars together and have adventured our way through all three of the previous games. We're very experienced mmorpg'ers with a long list of other games behind us. We bought the 'sneak peak weekend' pack for Eye of the North and have been playing it since Saturday. It is BRILLIANT!There are many changes and improvements to be enjoyed in Eye of the North. As well as instantly recognisable ones such as new skills and weapons there are more subtle ones too. Let's start with the music. When was the last time you heard someone extol the music in a game? It's wonderfully atmospheric, unobtrusive and really adds to the richness of the game. The design of the world is lavish. In some games you see a very interesting game item such as a statue or a doorway and then notice it again in ten other places. Not in EotN. Each location is unique with it's own features which have been lovingly designed. It is possible just to walk about slack-jawed in wonder at some of the locations. The world itself has the atmosphere of an ancient Scandanavia that actually feels cold and covered in snow; much like the deserts in Prophecies felt hot and covered in sand. NPCs in EotN are an interesting lot, changing into bears and being 2.5m tall! The structure of the missions seems to have changed subtly too. Whereas in previous games there were main missions with interesting side quests, the side quests in EotN seem to intermingle with the main missions in a new way that really adds to the experience. You are faced with decisions over which path to take and how to proceed. Although this is similar to previous games, here it seems to have been really embedded.Add to this the list of missions available for the solo player only and you have a great deal to do even if your girlfriend is busy and you just fancy a quick challenge in the game. These missions give rewards which can then be swapped for items such as crowns which add to your attribute points. We're loving our sneek-peek and are really looking forward to receiving our full version of the game from Amazon when it is published next week.

As an avid fan of all GW titles I too was looking forward to this first and only expansion. Again, as in previous titles, I wasn't dissapointed although a few things annoyed me. Let me first tell you the fun stuff: As this is 'only' an expansion, it starts where Prophecies stops (sort of); this way you can pick up the storyline, which in my opinion was the best of the three titles. Once you get a bit further in the game, you begin to unlock certain items/NPC's/skills, some of which are awesome. You can also prepare your current characters for eternal glory with the 'hall of heroes', here your characters will be displayed with their armor, weapons...etc for all to admire once we all begin on GW2.For the rest, the gameplay hasn't changed, the looks haven't changed. No need to, as this was more than OK.The frustrations: certain services/kits are no longer location bound or bought with money. You have to earn titles before you can do this or that. That's OK to a certain level, as it avoids the classic situation where a new player is 'run' or 'taxied' to a more advanced area, gets all the benefits from this area and then goes back to finish his early quests. Also, as stated by others, I feel it's just a filler until we can lay our hands on GW2.Nonetheless, the pros outdo the cons so my advise is: buy it, enjoy it and lets meet in GW2!.

The Guild Wars player count is increases with every new release as its finally becoming one of the leading online games thanks to its no monthly fee and stand alone campaigns (minus Eye Of The North). Its been a few years since Guild Wars was first released and with two follow up campaigns and the new expansion theres lots to do for the casual or hardcore gamer. With the introduction of GW:EN and its high-end content for your high-end characters it adds alot more for players to explore, keep busy with and progress their characters.Eye Of The North works as a bridge, expanding the lore ready for the new playable races in Guild Wars 2. While you cannot bring your characters over to GW2,your accomplishments will be displayed in the Hall Of Monuments featured in Eye Of The North, a private instance of your own monumenting your achievments.Guild Wars, best MMORPG for your money, no monthly fees making you come back for more.

This isn't a review of the expansion as such but I'd just like to give a heads up to anyone else thinking of buying it four years after the original launch. Although the original game was designed for Windows XP, that version installs and runs just fine on Windows 7 64 bit and presumably Vista too. Even if it didn't, it doesn't matter, as all you actually need is the code that comes in the box. Once you have added that to your account, just log into whichever version/s of Guild Wars you already have on your PC and any extra files needed for Eye of the North will be downloaded automatically. You can get the Eye of the North starter quest from a mission giver in each of the main cities from the first three GW games. The XP version is much cheaper than the Vista version of this game,so if you want Eye of the North, just buy the XP version and save some money.

Eye of the North is a great expansion on the previous 3 Guild Wars campaigns. It is the precursor to Guild Wars 2, and introduces all the new concepts that will be involved in GW2. The new races are introduced - Charr, Asura and Norn will all be playable races in GW2.Then there is the Hall of Monuments, an invention that many Guild Wars players will be thanking Balthazar for. This allows players to create a monument for their characters, in which their achievements can be transferred to GW2. The transferrable achievements are Titles, Heroes and Pets, Armor, Weapons, and Minipets.I have no real complaints with the expansion, but it could have been a bit longer. I finished the main storyline in less than 2 days. There is plenty more to do though - the Dungeons do not even feature in the main story line, and the various minigames leave a lot to be explored.

I have also played all 3 campaigns through, and currently have 14 lvl 20 characters. It is a truly amazing game.... for a free (no subscription fee)MMORPG. It does however suffer from 2 badpoints.1. Its free so you get some nasty little urchins who rip people off with scams!. so if you buy GW go to one of the many reputable fan sites and get clued up on in game scams.2. Lately the servers have been suffering incredible strain, in part due to the regular ( most weekends )events organised by ANET. The events are aimed at keeping players occupied whilst waiting for the next chapter.. it can get rather repetitive at times... but if you want a good sound introduction to MMORPG you really can't get better than GW at the moment, its cheap and the graphics are outstanding

I have played all the stories, but for some strange reason still prefer the first, but there all great.I have all the collectors editions, and I think it's a shame that anet have not done a collectors on this, seeing as it's the last one. They say because it's not a full blown story like the others, just an addon, but I'm sure it will be good.Other race's would be nice, as there are going to be in this, sort of a follow up to GW 2 I spose.Fight alongside the char, I done that in a mission in nightfall, so who knows.I do agree with what soemone else said about changing the story, they all seem to go down the same route,or link somewhere with what you done before.TBH I cant wait for it to come out.

I'm a very late MMO tourist to the world of guild wars and whilst the game makes some strange decisions (heavily instanced areas)I have found the overall quality of all the games in the series top notch so far.I originally only really bought them to get some HoM points for guild wars 2 (after 29+ hours of play so far I'm still on a lowly 4 points haha) however I've very much put this on the back burner and am just enjoying the content for what it is. If I pick up a good few points at the end then great, if not then I've still enjoyed my play.

I have been playing GW for over 2yrs now, i have all campaigns and this expansion, with all of them complete on hard mode. This expansion is really good, but just doesnt have that same feeling as the others...Like on nightfall going though the campaign, struggling and then you make it and feel like you have really achieved something. This doesnt feel the same at all, because it is so short. I would say that factions is the best still, and that GW is still the best online MMORPG

there first post on this talks about there should be a new race, well this expansion opens up about the new races to be playable in guild wars 2. In this one you play along side the races playable in guild wars 2 to get a taste of what they are like, if you want other races play that other game with monthly fees (not saying what but i think you know).Anyways, do some research about this before you post bad stuff about the game.

I know this game isnt out yet but ive played on the other three and i found them amazing. the storylines are proberly the best you could have for a MMORPG. Rumor has it that in this one you are fighting with the charr, but thats a rumor. proberly isnt true. Guild Wars has better teamwork and graphics than any other MMORPG. I CANT WAIT UNTILL THIS IS OUT. GONNA BE GREAT.

7.6.2007

i suggest that with the new guild wars or a new guild wars to come there should be a new race im sick of playing humans why not charr or some other race from factions or elona that would be good as humans are always the same if you complete the game then you do it again with the same race same storyline CHANGE IT

4.6.2007

Amazon hasn't noted this but it's important to know: This expansion will need one of the other three games to be used, be it Nightfall, Factions or Prophicies.I'd suggest Prophicies as this carries on from where Prophicies left off.
