Excite Truck is the Wii racer that everyone in Europe and Australia has been waiting for as Need For Speed: Carbon for the Wii turned out to be a disappointment. Excite Truck is a nod to the Excitebike series. However, this game features trucks (obviously) which seem to have gained the ability to fly. Yes, it's ridiculously unrealistic to watch a truck leap several hundred feet and then stick to the floor on landing unharmed, but you know what? It doesn't matter because this game is extremely fun to play. The tilt-based controls simply work and while it takes a little bit of practice, it's pretty much pickup-and-play.Graphically, this game isn't too spectacular - It could almost be a GameCube game. The trucks aren't too detailed, there are some popping issues (whole trees can appear before your eyes) and the game heavily abuses motion blur effects (I guess that's opinion on whether you like that or not). However, it does feature some nice specular lighting (shiny reflective effects) on water surfaces and on the trucks themselves, it runs at a solid framerate, crashes look great and the game's unique feature is the power-up which deforms the land in real time allowing you to perform huge turbo jumps and "throw" opponents. Something that bothers me a little is how cluttered the interface is. While it is tight so you only have to move your eyes a little to check anything, it seems a little claustrophobic and it would've been nice to see the counters pushed up and to the side a little to offer more viewing space. That said, this isn't as big a problem on 16:9 widescreen TVs.Excite Truck is the first Wii game to sport a custom soundtrack option through SD card. This option is a great plus even though the Xbox has been doing custom soundtracks for a while. As for the original soundtrack, I personally don't mind the guitar-driven music. Before any racing can take place, you have to take a short tutorial which lasts for about 10 minutes. While some may find this annoying, many will find it beneficial as it helps to ease you into a game which has radically different controls to anything else most people have played.Anyway, on to the modes. "Excite" mode has you in races in six locales varying from Fiji - a beach based course, to Finland - a snowy course, to Scotland, China, Mexico and Canada on around 20 tracks. You try to earn stars to reach set targets. Stars can be earned by grabbing air, flying through airborne rings, drifting, smashing into other trucks, performing air spins, driving near to trees and jump combos. At the end of the race you are awarded bonus stars depending on your position. So you can complete a race without getting first, but you will get a big star bonus for finishing ahead of the rest of the pack. As well as gaining stars, there are some other nifty tricks. For example, by using your turbo (which you have an enormous supply of) as you leap off a hill, you do a "Turbo Jump" catapulting you hundreds of feet in the air. Also by positioning your truck to land on all 4 wheels from a jump, you get yet another boost. And by getting a "POW" icon you gain invulnerability and blazing speed. Once you've been awarded an "S" rank (top marks) for each track in "Excite" mode (earning new trucks on the way), you'll unlock "Super Excite" mode. The AI is faster and more aggressive in this mode and tracks feel slightly varied. It's in "Super Excite" mode where the big surprise of the game is. I won't spoil too much but it's set on an additional, totally unexpected locale (bringing the total to seven), it's by far the best track of the game, it features an amazing soundtrack and absolutely gorgeous (by Wii standards) particle, lighting and specular effects. And don't think you've finished the game by completing "Super Excite" either. There's still more sets of races to do but I won't reveal any details. The sheer amount of things to do in the single-player campaign means that if you can deal with a bit of repetitive gameplay, this will last you months. The game also features a "Challenge" mode which includes ring (fly through rings in the air), gate (slalom race) and crush (destroy an enemy truck) challenges. It's fun but feels a little unfinished. Finally, the game has a multiplayer mode, but sadly, it's only 2-player, offline and with no computer trucks. While it is a bit of a disappointment, this game is just as fun to watch as it is to play. You'll definitely enjoy watching your friends crash their way through a single-player race.Overall, I highly recommend this game for anybody wanting to try out a Wii racer, especially if you're a fan of the Burnout franchise. Yes, there will be better racers for the Wii (and hopefully a sequel), but not for at least another half a year.

It took a while after launch to decide if I wanted to get Excite Truck or not, but I have heard nothing but good things about it so I bit my lip and picked up a copy. I do not regret it at all. I am not a big fan of racing games because I always find them so repetitive and unexciting (with the exception of the Mario Kart series). Those racing games with licensed cars, realistic graphics and physics just bore the hell out of me because they do not offer anything new with each offering they put out. This is not the case with Excite Truck. To begin, Excite Truck is the successor to the NES classic - Excite Bike. The point of Excite Truck is to collect a designated amount of stars to advance to higher levels. You do this by doing certain tricks such as drifting, turbo jumps, catching air, and crashing into other trucks. You can even gain stars by having a nice crash or even dodging a succession of trees. It is not imperative to win first place, but when you are just short of enough stars to advance to the next level, that first place can make all the difference. There are a total of five locations you can race - China, Mexico, Scotland, Fiji, and Canada - each with their own unique look. Some of the locations have crazy jumps, dips, and chasms that'll leave you in air for a few good seconds. While in air, you can still maneuver your truck to do spins and other tricks. With each level, the tracks become increasingly complex and harder to maneuver. Luckily, the Wii controls work great. You hold the Wii remote on its side as if it were a steering wheel and you steer your trucks as if you were actually steering it. It is very responsive and it takes skill to master, but it is also incredibly fun and easy to pick up and play.Graphically, Excite Truck is one of the best looking Wii games out right now. I am not going to compare its graphics to that of the Xbox 360 and PS3 because I feel it is becoming convoluted to keep comparing Wii to them. The Wii is not in the same category graphically. But Excite Truck does very well on its respected platform. The enviroments are lush and alive. The trucks are realisticly rendered. The game never has slowdown or framerate problems even though at times I felt like it should have given the insane speeds at which the trucks are moving through the environments. The feeling of insane speeds is terrificly rendered on screen. The blurred effects on the outer edges of the screen as you are rocketing past gave me a sense that I am going out of control, but the responsiveness of the controls kept it in balance. Another great feature in the game is the ability to change and manipulate the surrounding environment. Hitting an exclamation mark while driving will dynamically change the terrain in real time. You could use this to your advantage by knocking other players off course or creating a hill where you could execute a major turbo jump. There is also a "POW" marker that will put your car into hyper-speed as well as make you invincible to trees. There are a lot of surprises that keep the game fresh and exciting not to mention it gives you great replay value.Another great aspect of Excite Truck is the ability to add your own custom soundtrack through an SD card. Just upload your own music on the card and bring it up before or during the races. It makes it that much more personal and enjoyable. Otherwise, you would be subjected to the horrible, generic rock music they put in the game.If there is one downfall of the game, it would have to be its multiplayer feature. There is no online play and only two players can play on screen at a time. Also, there are no other AI trucks when playing multiplayer. I find it more fun just to take turns beating the main game. Excite Truck is a first generation launch title and I wouldn't fault it for not having online play. Nintendo is still trying to work out the online kinks.Overall, it is definitely a must-buy for Wii owners. The Wii controls bring in a new level of immersion. I would recommend it to those who are bored with realistic racing games and want to try something new. However, those who love realistic racing games probably won't get into it. And, of course, I would recommend it for anyone who just enjoys fun games.

First off, I am not a gaming expert. The Wii is the first game console I have ever bought, and Excite Truck is therefore one of the first console games I have ever purchased. In fact my total game playing experience on any platform is limited to mucking around on a Sinclair Spectrum back in the early 80's (showing my age there), the odd go on friends' consoles and a liking for the odd game of Civilisation. This limited experience means that I'm not going to be able to compare Excite Truck with other games in terms of playability or graphics. All I will be able to do is tell you what I thought of it as a playing experience. The answer is, as the review title suggests, FUN!This is not a game aimed at rocket scientists or those with a love of problem solving. This is a game about driving fast, crashing and doing big jump and it provides ample opportunities for all three and more.It makes good use of the Wii remote (even a non-gamer like I can handle the controls), giving players a truely interactive interface with the action on screen. It has a good multiplayer function so adults like I can get be whipped by members of the younger generation. The graphics are solid (based on my limited experience) and do the job required of them. There are enough levels requiring increasing amounts of skill to make sure the game remains a challenge.Sure, the whole 'racing around a predetermined course at speed' thing is by definition a little bit repetitive (although the different courses each pose their own challenges) and I usually find that short doses of play are fine (except when playing in two player mode where natural competitiveness usually takes over). I also find the built in music somehwat annoying (again possibly a sign of my age) and I haven't really got the inclination to load my own tracks onto an SD card to use with the game. Those are minor niggles however, and overall I would recommend Excite Truck to pretty much anyone with a Wii. I'm sure it doesn't break any new ground in term of game design and that hardened gamers be able to list a myriad of 'better' racing games out there, but if all you want is something simple, exciting and most importantly FUN, then this game will tick all the relevant boxes

Let's get this out of the way; I don't like racing games. I hate that in the arcade you have a stupid timer and checkpoint mode that eats up your coins like PacMan on a binge, I hate all these "Need for Speed"-type games where you customise everything from the leather trim to the gear knob on some suped up road car and zoom around a photo realistic Paris, and I'm not a big fan of Nascar.Excite Truck, however, I love. First of all, this is a really fast, really visceral game that allows you to do some great tricks really easily. Much like the rebooted Prince of Persia games, you'll find yourself going "wow, did I really just do that?" as you do a huge jump off the top of a mountain, spin your truck round 720 degrees, and then land with all 4 tyres on the floor at once for another turbo boost. It encourages you to smash into your opponents, to dodge through shortcuts, and to go very very fast through some totally made-up scenarios (hopping over icebergs anybody?).But here's the thing: Nintendo have realised that when people play racing games they don't just sit there like statues. When they want to steer right, their whole body leans right. When they really need to jump just a little bit further, they tilt the control back and grit their teeth. And this is where the Wii shines. They've perfected the mapping of the Wii controller to how your body wants to play this game. Totally disregarding all laws of physics, if you lean back on Excite Truck, your truck leans back. You steer by tilting the controller like a steering wheel and the harder you tilt, the harder the steering lock. Other than that there are only two buttons, an accelerator and a turbo. You won't be needing the brake.Gaming. Perfection.

Most of the reviews out on amazon already say the basic idea of the game, so im gonna cut to the chase. If you like fast, easy to pick up and play racing games then this is for you. The trucks handle well, and my only slight niggle with it is that tilting the control too far in one direction makes the truck turn the other way, and this is quite easy to do when getting a bit over excited playing!!!Graphics are actually pretty amazing for the Wii, with the speed being portrayed very well, and scenery whizzing past more effectivly than many of the burnout games. And talking of burnout if you liked any of those games then this is definatly for you, the 'burnout' bar is replaced with the boost bar (and the 'overheat'adds an extra skill level). The trucks crash into the trees and you can earn a boost after this by tapping '2'.One problem i have found is that crashing into trees is far too commonplace and can stop the flow of the game, but the open lakes and long straights more than make up for this. I particularly love the way you can change the shape of the landscape and track by driving through an '!'. Again this adds to the games fun level. All in all a brilliant game, very easy to control (family who havent played since the SNES were having great fun on it), and getting those 'S' ranks will prove hard. If you can get it for £[...] like i did then its definatly worth it (try ebay/amazon market place.)PS. Would just like to say that other reviews have said that its life span is too short. Not true. This game plays like an arcade game, and so you could easily keep coming back for more even once everything has been completed. I know I will.

Excite Truck is at present the best racer on Wii. This is due to the fact that the controls work so well, and also partly because it allows you do drive monster trucks over huge trucks and through dense forests while smashing the crap out of your opposition at ever opportunity!Unlike traditional racing games, to win a race at Excite truck you have to accumulate the most points in a race. This means driving the most outlandishly and dangerously normally wins you the race, still there is a certain amount of skill to Excite Truck as winning gets you a stack of points which are added to your total. This system works well and can see races turning at the last minute - either to your relief orfrustration. The single player is perhaps the highlight of the game as sadly multiplayer races are only 2 player, and don't allow you to race with an opposition. This sucks some of the fun out of the game as like i said - super smashing your rivals is a great part of the game.Theres a huge array of different trucks to drive and paint jobs to unlock. The trucks improve as you get better grades in races, meaning that you have to repeat races quite a few times to get full grades as to unlock all the trucks. This is one of those satisfying/annoying kind of things that you may feel like doing. I felt the game got a bit samey when i had to start repeating races, and the inclusion of "reverse tracks" isnt too original. To sum things up, if you can pick this game up for a relatively cheap price its a lot of fun, and it'l definitely help acclimatise you with the Wii's motion sensing, perhaps in preparation for other racing games in the future.

Being a Nintendo geek my favourite racing games have always been the Mario Kart series, but this does come a very close second! Imagine a cross between Destruction Derby 2 (the best one of the series) and Mario Kart and you have Excite Truck. Courses are cleared by earning a certain amount of stars. These are awarded for stunts including airtime, crashes, truck smashes, tree runs, spins, and jump combos, and up what place you finish the race. This may sound a bit novelty, but it works really well. I did have a few reservations about this game, and it only scored average reviews, but I've been playing it for a week now, up until 6am some mornings, just trying to unlock a new faster truck that can get even bigger air and earn me more stars,or trying to collect all the trophies. Its a brilliant game that every Wii owner should have, even if its only to pass the time until the new Mario Kart is released in spring. My only niggle with the game - tree runs. these are scored for driving through trees at close range without crashing into them, sometimes for whatever reason the game wont register your tree run meaning you can lose upto 20 even 30 stars on a lap and ruin your chances of clearing the stage. I've only noticed this recently since ive started using the fastest truck on the game, maybe it just goes to fast through the trees.Like I said its a minor niggle, wont which wont ruin the game, I keep going back for more, and once i start playing i cant stop, I know ill get flamed for saying this, and even though i loved mario galaxy, excite truck is the most fun i've had on my wii since resident evil 4!

I really do struggle to understand the relatively poor reviews excite truck has recieved in the gaming press. Yes there are a limited number of courses and yes it isnt incredibly difficult but that shouldn't detract anyone, especially now that the game can be purchased at budget prices.Of the Wii games i have played, Excite truck undoubtedly is one of the best utilising the sensor on the wii remote, with the majority of actions carried out with movement of the remote rather than buttons. The action is fast, and the points scoring system makes it a unique racer. Admittedly it can become infuriating winning by some distance and not recieving the required score but ultimately "them the rules my friend" as an illiterate man once said, and you subsequently must learn to drive in a more daring manner via super slides and tree runs.2 player mode is amazing, its a shame there is no online capability but this disappointment is partially offset by the option to load your own songs via the SD card - ultimately ridding you of the terrible music that exists in this and most other games!all in all excellent value, and even when completed comes out whenever we are having some drinks before going out - in my mind the beauty of the wii in general.

This is not a full review, just a note to anyone thinking of buying this game but put off from the comments of how short the game is.The game can be completed in about 4 hours if you rush through it. The point of Excite Truck is accessibility to everyone, because of that the difficulty level is very low. That does not mean it is an easy game. Like Mario Kart before it each race and cup is graded A-F and then a special S grade being the best possible. To achieve an A grade isn't difficult, that's intentional.I've been playing this game for the past couple of weeks and i've clocked up 20+ hours and i've only just finished the main game (with the harder mode unlocked). If i'd moved onto the next cup when i'd achieved A grade, which is a walk in the park i would have got 4 hours gameplay and a lot less enjoyment. I stopped myself moving on until i'd achieved S grade, it was hard in some places but always fun!So if your aim is to finish a game quickly it's here in this game for you. If you want a game that's just plain fun and anyone can enjoy this is a must. If you want a deeper challenge you have to find the challenge yourself by going for S grades and not being content with an easy A.

I got this game from Amazon about 5 days ago and havn't been able to put it down yet! Its a racing game (like you've not figured that already!) but not like many I've played! The premise is simple, not only do your best to win, but drive as crazily as you possibly can, swerving past tree's, jumping over oil tankers, skid and pretty much anything you can (and cant!) do in a car! Every stunt, jump etc earns you stars, and its the player with the most stars that wins! This is great for a night in with friends as even those unfamiliar with racing games can pick up and play and do well. This game is not for the gamer who wants a driving game in the mould of TOCA RACE Driver (and other racing sims)etc...there is not an infinite amount of different ways to customise your car etc and it doesnt take itself to seriously (ie you get a star for crashing!).In short a great, fun, lively game that has enough to keep you interested for hours, but a driving simulator it is not (nor ever intended to be).

Excite Truck uses the same excellent Wii wheel controls as Mario Kart Wii which is fantasic fun with it's massive air jumps. To gain extra points in a race you can smash your rivals out the way and do crazy jumps through hoops. If you are feeling brave slam on your turbo boost and watch the track become a blur. Don't over use your boost or your engine will over heat. Excite Truck is a excellent fast wild racing game which is set in beautiful locations around the world. One of the things which is cool with Excite Truck is, if you have a SD card for your Wii you can download music onto it off your computer and have your own music playing instead of the original game music. The Excite Truck instruction booklet explains how you can select music off your SD card for the game. My mates and I have great fun racing eachother in 2 player. Overall this is a very good racing game for the Wii and another great racing game called F - Zero is going to be out this year hopefully.

I wasn't going to buy Excite Truck, as I thought £[...] was a bit much to ask for a game that hadn't received any great review scores and that was the way it was going to stay, at least until it was reduced in price. That all lasted until I happened to be doing my weekly shop in Asda, and saw it on sale for £27.77 - I snapped it up in an instant and haven't looked back since. The game is brilliant, fast, fun and everything a new console needs to draw in customers. Its downside is it lacks any kind of online'ness - although, so does every other current Wii game - we're lead to believe that this will change very soon, with the release of Metroid Prime 3.Make sure you have a SD card with your favourite Mp3's loaded on it,as the game has a setting to play them - The guitar music within Excite Truck starts to grate your ears and thats even before you've completed the tutorials - I recommend your favourite Prodigy track, to best enjoy the game.

Received this game yesterday, on the release date (well done Amazon as always). So far I just can't stop playing it. Basically, all notion of physics goes out the window and you have to get as many stars as possible by doing massive jumps, smashing into other trucks, dodging trees, "throwing" other trucks, going through rings in the air and other similar activities. It's such a fun game. You control your truck by holding the remote horizontally, tilting it to the right or left to steer. It's also playable over the Internet, though I haven't tried that yet.The only downsides I can see right now is that it probably won't take that long to complete the game, and you can only have 1 or 2 players. The good points more than make up for these though. Also, I love the soundtrack, it's some really impressive guitar work and it really suits the game and adds to the enjoyment. It's definitely a must buy for the Wii.

I initially discounted this game in my initially selection for the Wii, as it looked too simple and boring, but a lot of people on a popular gamming forum recommended it and I bought it. It turned up yesterday and I have to say I'm very happy. If you remember a game called Rollcage on the PS1 it's kind of like that - fast, fun arcade-style driving with huge turbo jumps, spinning in the air and so on. Possibly a little like Trackmania as well. When you get a good run with loads of good jumps, tree runs (points for driving close to trees) etc it's very satisfying.I would recommend this to most people, and definitley don't ignore because it's trucks or because it looks boring. The Nintendo site has an excellent video which gives you a good idea of the kind of things you can do in it and the speed you can get up to.

I don't know why but Excite Truck caught my eye right from the launch of the Wii and I wasn't disappointed when it was finally released in the UK. I love the speed of the game, its so fast and I love racing to get loads of stars! The graphics are great and some people have said it doesn't have longevity but I haven't unlocked everything yet and I have had the game since release day! The multiplayer is ok but I find in more satisfying to play on my own, I think its beacause of the pace of the racing it doesn't benefit from a split screen. The only thing I feel it misses is an option where you can go into an arena and smash up other trucks, like Destruction Derby!!You can use an SD card to play your own music in the game but my fluffy pop music doesn't really go with the game! Buy it you won't regret it!!
