If you're looking for a non-linear, explorable world RPG like Oblivion, Skyrim or the like then you'll be disappointed. If you're after a relatively straightforward semi-RPG hack and slash to enjoy with a friend in co-op mode then like me you may be pleasantly suprised!First impressions:Not great, you only have a choice of 4 characters that cannot be amended or changed in appearance or class and the initial controls seem confusing and complicated. The top down view seems too far away from the characters initially but over time allows easy co-op gameplay and both players to use the battle arenas to evade, move and attack separately or together,I think it works better than a split screen type presentation for this particular game.Gameplay:Not easy to begin with but if you persevere for an hour or so the controls become more intuitive and the leveling up system and skills become obvious and easy to use and upgrade. The combat is simple but very enjoyable with a steep learning curve at the beginning of the game and we died multiple times before realising to utilise the special skills and evasion tactics. The game is quite linear which is a little disappointing but the scenery and graphics are very good and there is plenty of variation of baddies and moves to pull off. It would have been nice to have had more villages, towns or locations to explore but the limited ones available are well detailed and nicely different from each other though most of the scenery and people you meet cannot be interacted with which is a shame.Story:The character types are different and imaginative even though theres only 4. Each one has their own special skills as you would expect and have strengths and weaknesses in attack and defence, the character Anjali is a great one to play as with genuinely unique skills. The story is pretty basic in that you are a member of a Legion which has been decimated and must gradually win over various key individuals by completing quests to return the legion to former glory in order to face off with the central baddie who has wrought all this chaos. Most tasks are pretty simple hack and slash through the baddies until you find object X. None of the locations are huge but they are big enough to be entertaining and don't feel repetetive, there aren't a huge amount of side quests and they generally won't take you long. You do have choices in communicating with the characters you meet but it doesn't feel particularly like you'll change the course of the game much either way. In all fainess the developers have tried to give the characters feeling and personality and sometimes they do explain why they did what they did which is a bit odd, also most of the main enemies are female which is a nice change!Summary:Overall, we took a little while to get into the game but glad we did as it's great fun to play in co-op mode. Probably a bit linear in 1 player mode and quite short with a lack of 'open world' for some. To be honest for less than a tenner this game was a bargain bit of fun and an enjoyable romp but not really a game you'd play over again to try another character.

So many years after Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance I finally found a better alternative. If you are one of the shallow people who rush through the game without taking notice of the story, texts and artwork, then leave this game. However if you take the effort to dive into this lovely designed and very detailed world with lots of backstory, then you'll be rewarded with a good gameplay experience. But only if you are able to leave the pubic opinion behind, because as reviews show most people don't get this game. You get the choice between four differenct characters with the usual swordsman, mage aso. A shortcoming is the missing character customisation.Items are not that diverse in appearance, but it's the stats here that matter, and thus you can form your character to match your prefered fighting style. After some leveling and upgrading, you'll get up to 3 different power moves plus the normal fast and strong 3-hit-combo and block/roll moves. Combat is a world less cumbersome than in DS 1 and 2. The menu works fast which is a plus point for me, while others might prefer the old menus more because of familiarisation. The view is the usual top perspective with two camera distances, for fighting only the far one is usable. If you want to enjoy the design a little, as I often do in this game you can zoom to the closer view.Until now I played 2 and three player parties and you can juggle around a lot with the different items you get. Enchanted items are also craftable after you collect the needed essences and enough money. Something strange here, you also collect gear for characters that aren't used.Even on PC I recommend to play this game with a controller, it's so much more clunky to play with keyboard as I found out at the beginning. As soon as I switched to the controller everything just flows. It's fast and enjoyable to steer the character with the analog stick, nothing like in the previous two parts. Which again is a plus point for me, but it might not be for you if you prefer the old and slow 'point and click where you want to go'-technique.After playing this game for 18 hours I really like the well written dialogs and the voice acting is also top-notch.The dense atmosphere is further enhanced by the intense sound effects and nice background music. This game has something special to it, because it is carefully crafted and balanced. The graphics are not top standard for 2011, but again it looks nice enough and adds to the perilous atmosphere, because it is detailed and sometimes even impressive. Can't wait to finish it and play the other characters, who will then add more diversity in combat styles.Oh and by the way, this game runs rock stable on my rig despite the reports of others. No bugs found so far either and I'm a keen observer.

The old fashioned action RPG, how I have missed you. `Baldur's Gate' was a fantastic series, but it feels like it's been years since a decent dungeon crawler hit consoles. All of a sudden 2011 has become the year, with plenty of dungeon based games coming in downloadable form, but with `Sacred 2' letting me down, it is up to `Dungeon Siege 3' to sate my appetite for whacking dungeon fodder in a full RRP game.`Dungeon Siege 3' is one of those rare games that does what it says on the tin. Everything is set for a basic action RPG; third person perspectives, quests, loot drops. The reason the game works is because all these basics are done very well. It's not the prettiest, original and,if I am being honest, most interesting game out there, but it is certainly entertaining. There is some sort of story that is sub-Tolkien stuff, but what really matters in that the gameplay feels great. In the single player you can choose one of four characters whose skills differ from full warrior to full mage, and characters in between. You can take a hero online and play with 3 other people, but be aware that not all your saves will go with you. This is a game that takes bog standard and does it really well. With a central quest that lasts around 15 hours, it is not the longest RPG ever, but it never outstays its welcome. Having not played a decent dungeon crawler on console for around 8 years `Dungeon Siege 3' really filled a gaping hole I did not know existed. Silly, action packed and a bit creaky, `DS 3' is a great RPG for people who like their RPGs with a bit more action and less thinking.

Ok this has been done before, but original games on any platform are rare, and to be honest when you have been playing games for as long as me you dont always want anything more than what you like, and i like RPG's of this format, i want to hack slash and loot my way through maps and develop my character as i go, face big boss creatures, solve puzzels and save the damsel/town/treasure from the nasty beastie who is currently causing so many problems. And thats what you get, its very pretty to look at, the game play is solid and consistent with other RPG formats and most importantly you get your money's worth in terms of game time. Its not going to change your life, its not cutting edge or technological marvel, its dungeon siege 3, so its alot like the other two but prettier with more bells and whistles and you can play it one or two player(or more?)on the playstation 3.If you like other similar style games you will like this.On a side note i wish more similar style traditionally "PC" type games (RPGS,RTC,SIMULATORS ETC)could be moved on to the consoles, FPS seem to dominate consoles, but there is definitely a market for games traditionally found on pcs and is it realy that hard to design a mouse or touch pad controller for the ps3?

It seems form reviews that this is a marmite game. Love or hate, no middle ground. The good.A well realised fantasy world with a variety of locations that all look and feel different. The 4 characters play differently so theres replay value. The online co-op is ace with 4 player support.Combat is fun and when you start mastering your basic attacks opens up with more strategic elements.Easy to use inventory and levelling system. The badUgly, ugly, ugly character models. Blurry cut scenes.Awful voice acting. Cliche characters.Loot seems to stop being collectable later in the game. You have better stuff all the time if you shop.Ok, I've played this for about 8 hours. The start is good with a burnt out manor house having to be cleared of mercenaries. Then for an hour or so it slows down with lots of fetch and return quests.however after that it becomes enjoyable. It's not a ground breaking game, but I can't name an RPG that has been since planescape or baldurs gate. It is fun and has good fantasy elements that will satisfy the geek element in you. There are so few rpgs on the market for ps3 that this does a good job, not a great one, of filling a market that is lacking in killer titles.

I cannot understand such a negative perspective and general view of this game. Is it the best RPG ever to grace console? Nope, it isn't, but it is solid, great ammounts of fun with a good deal of replay value, well considered pacing, and is THE MOST fun 2 player/ 3 player co-op (same room) i have had on PS3. Me and my pal have sat for several long sessions playing and relaxing with a few beers and it reminds us of the old Baulders Gate games on PS2/ original xbox. We turned on online MP and had people drop in and out seamlessly, and generally really enjoyed the whole experience. There are creases here in the online portion, mainly the lack of ability to level your own personal character when joining another persons game, but i have joined and enjoyed several other peoples games, knowing id not level up and still finding satisfaction whilst playing.I think at this price, there is great value here, and if you want a good co op RPG esp if you're interested in local, sofa to sofa co op then this game ROCKS!!!

I cant believe all the negative reviews about this game. I have played many many games of all types including all the Neverwinter Nights, Diablo, DS and lots of other RPG's etc and I can honestly say that I am very much enjoying this game. It took me about 15 mins to get used to the controls, they are no problem at all although it could be difficult if you are left handed as you cannot remap them all. Like every game, it is not perfect, but for sheer enjoyment, this is great. It looks stunning (escpecially the female characters :-), ok there are only 4 set characters to choose from, but doesn't that make a change from the usual vast amount of character options.I get the impression that most of the negative reviewer's want more of the same. It is as simple as this: if you want a hack and slash game that looks gorgeous with some RPG elements thrown in, give it a go, you wont be dissappointed. If you want lots and lots and lots of options, play Oblivion again and again.

Obsidian have proven themselves to be one of the most under appreciated devs around. Their games are usually somewhat flawed, but they are flawed gems, at most; and the bugs get patched out quickly, leaving you with a gem of a gem. That happened with New Vegas for example. With DS3 the bugs are gone; it's probably one of the most stable games by Obsidian yet. The overall quality though, is a bit below their standard but still high enough to constitute an enjoyable experience. If you played the Dark Alliance games on PS2, you know what to expect. Lots of dungeon crawling, looting... Quite fun if you're a fan of this. But add to that a branching (with multiple endings) story where you make your own decisions, using a Bioware-style wheel of conversation, and you get an even more satisfying experience. 4 characters, possiblity of co-op, and what i said about the story makes for quite a bit of replay value.recommended!

I have only had this game 3-5 days and I love it! The graphics are amazing and they managed to squeeze in some really great effects and audio enhancements just before the game was released.if you like Action RPG s this is a great game and I really recommend it. although there are some minor faults that need to be fixed. after a while it gets a bit boring going solo with a AI companion so you should try the dreadful multi-player. I have 3 points to make about this multi-player experience:1. The Camera Lay-out is horrible for multi-player.2. You Cannot continue walking off screen unless all the other players follow or the camera just gets stuck and you cant move away from that spot until the other players come too.3.There is a problem where Lag keeps appearing randomly and making people disconnect if there is to many projectiles on-screen.Overall I would rate this game 4 out of 5.

I played the demo off this from the playstation store and really liked the story so i bought the game off here I was impressed really good story ands ablities I did every mission and half trophys,It does have one very hard point three quarters of the way through apart from that good game each charactor has there own back story so it is defently worth replaying with there different abbilities. It is good value for money if your like me waiting for a stop gap until elder scrolls 5 or dragon age 3 come out.I score it 4 out of 5 needs some dlc.

I bought this game against all the negative hype and reviews. And I am glad I did! (also got it for just 12 quid brand new!!!!) This game is great! Hours of fun, fast paced, excellent online, nice story, great character development, has everything a proper PS3 rpg should have. Don't beleive the hype, this is really good. I am enjoying it as much as I enjoyed DAO, Final Fantasy series etc. Can't wait to download the DLC also. Only slight complain would be the camera angle but that won't affect my rating. 5 star!!!!

2.10.2011

This game is really fun to play and theres nothing wrong with the controls or any other aspect of the game. Sure the developers could have done this or could have done that in a different way, but i don't see a reason for all these harsh reviews. Anybody how likes story based action rpgs will be completely satisfied with this game. Currently we are multiplaying through the campaign and are enjoying it to the fullest.

I don't know why this game sold so few copies, because it's one of the greatest action RPGs I've played this gen. Sure the game's graphics are poor, but the plot is awesome (even more considering story in these kind of games) and the dialog choices really add depth to the game. Also, combat is challenging but rewarding, and cooperative game is just awesome. Just play the damn game!

4.11.2011

I only bought this game because a friend was buying it too, we thought it would be a great co-op dungeon crawler to play together. Unfortunately the co-op is not as expected as you actually play as a character in the other persons game rather than your own personalised character. Other than that this game is a lot of fun to play if you enjoy dungeon crawler games.

23.7.2011

Now Obsidian have fixed the keyboard control system ie: they added key binding. It is a really good game although not in the vane of Dungeon Siege in my opinion. That said its still a fun game to play if a little linear
