I was surprised to find such a gruesome game had been made in conjunction with a name like Warner Brothers - it is, after all, a very dark game with a lot of gratuitous violence.Despite three reviews complaining about the sound in this game I found nothing in it which warranted such abuse. In the very first section (during the tutorial part) there are a few weird noises which seemed out of place, but thereafter it resolved and although I had the sound turned right up I was unable to distinguish any further problems. The game play itself will not lend itself to anyone used to the usual fight style of button mashing; you are taught during the tutorial that you have to time your attack and defence - i.e.holding down block will not defend you, you need to block as the opponent attempts to hit you. Likewise you cannot just hit an opponent repeatedly - you need to time the punches. This is possibly why some people have disliked the control system; but once you get used to it, it makes the game ever so much better as it requires more of your attention and thus makes the game more involving.I found the plotline to be good also; I especially liked the crime scenes which require a little imagination and also some intelligence to interpret. Each section of the game is also very different to the rest - whether you are in a creepy tenement building, an old doll factory, a black tar-filled office or out in the woods in a cabin. The tasks are pretty different too - some are simply search and destroy, others areas require a little more puzzle solving, and you make good use of your equipment following UV fluorescent pipes and blood trails. The ambience itself is pretty creepy; mannequins popping into existence in the tenement building was creepy, the explosive-filled dolls wandering the rooms in the factory were also pretty creepy when they start crawling under things to get to you; the freakiest bit is definitely in the cabin though... but I'll not spoil the surprise. I actually squeaked out loud in fright at one point when I ran around a corner straight into what I'd been trying to run away from! The game has its humour too; guys in medieval armour running about a museum, odd news broadcasts and the ability to use toilet seats as none-too-shabby weapons.SUMMARYPositive: Great game, good plot, lengthy play time, engaging combat, darkly humorous.Negative: Some IQ points may be required, not for the faint of heart, definitely not for underage players. In my opinion it's definitely worth what it's up for sale at on the Marketplace.

Before I start writing my review for this game I think it is only fair to say that I have never played the original Condemned which from what I have read is arguably a better game. However, each game in my opinion should be taken on its own merit and for me this is most definitely a jewel in the PS3 crown!I picked this game up not expecting much on a bargain hunting trip and what a bargain it turned out to be. After playing Resident Evil 5 which is a great game but a bit light on the scare factor Condemned 2 was the shot of adrenalin boosting entertainment that I needed! From the very start of the game to the last .. admittedly disappointing 'boss' fight I was on the edge of my seat. Now this isn't your run of the mill survival horror .. ok you will jump when the odd enemy jumps out of the shadows at you, but for me the most scary moments of the game is when nothing happens!! lol Strange as it may be to say when these tension building moments happen with your lights off and sound turned up (more on that later) you really will feel uncomfortable! lolEverything about this game impressed me .. from the storyline to the variety of weapons that can be used to the dark feel of the game and the animation/graphics. As mentioned previously the sound used on this game is quite simply amazing! Its one thing to have great sound but to use it in perfect sync with what is happening in the game or to build up the tension is something not executed particularly well in most games with the exception of the early instalments of Silent Hill.So why not a perfect 5? I think there could have been some improvements made with the main character and the control system used but that is down to personal taste. More importantly I guess the game didn't have that epic feel of achievement as I completed it and to be honest it felt like a bit of an anticlimax. These minor issues aside I am still eagerly awaiting Condemned 3 and another disturbing adventure!

This game story takes place almost a year after the first “Condemned” (if you didn’t play the first game, don’t worry, it’s not essential to understand the story), and you take control of FBI Serial Crime Unit’s resigned Ethan Thomas, that after his disturbing serial killer X investigation, has become homeless, violent and alcoholic, but is recruited back to hunt again X, who Ethan thought was dead. The game plays all in first person, melee combat and shooting, having the melee now a combo system to deliver powerfull attacks to the enemies, and a Quick Time Event system to deliver the final brutal blow, occasionally with optional environmental kills, such as bringing the enemies head inside a TV (lots of mature content of course) .As an investigator you will use cool forensic tools to determine the causes of the crime scenes left behind, “leveling” you up as you determine the right cause, rewarding you with better equipment and skills. The graphics are very detailed, with claustrophobic and dark environments, with good use of dynamic shadows, that will creep you out in every corner. Better played in the dark and with a good headphone !Pros – Great and challenging first person combat, melee and guns (you will feel the enemies pain in every every punch and every shot), fun forensic investigating tools, great gory graphics and plenty of tension and scares .Cons – The controls will need a bit of practice for the perfect combos and in this sequel is more action oriented not having much of story to unfold. The multiplayer could have been better with lag being a big issue.I recommend this great atmospheric psychological horror action game for the all the brave players !!!

After reading reviews I was of mixed opinion as to whether to get this game but after playing it for a few hours I knew I'd made a good choice.Condemned 2 is a kind of first-person-shooter without shooting, you make more use of your fists, pipes, pieces of wood with nails in them, bottles of booze to beat down your enemies than guns - which are in short supply and carry very little ammo. The list of weapons above should give you an idea of the gritty, brutal nature of the game, which is very combat focussed - but also involves brief breaks from the action in the form of forensic investigations of murder scenes, which - like the fighting - can be pretty grisly. Also Condemned 2 works really well as a horror game, the levels are very atmospheric and good use is made of lighting, visuals and especially sound - which makes for a very creepy and sinister feeling on most of the levels, even when you're not being smacked about by a man spewing tar from his mouth!I give the game four stars partly because I've not completed it yet, so a full five would be a bit unfair, and partly because of niggly little issues with the game such as the relative lack of manoueverability (you can't jump over obstacles for instance - sometimes you can move them but most times you have to go around), yet in all in all Condemned 2 is well worth it and a refreshing change from most games currently on the PS3 in terms of its brooding, horrific style and visceral, almost animalistic hand-to-hand combat.

I haven't been this genuinely scared playing a game since some the earlier Resi games way back when.I've not completed it yet but the SP is engrossing and scary. The music is great and adds a tense, dark and urgent atmosphere to the impressive sound effects (scampering foot steps and "other" noises making you 180 all the time). The music and sfx add no end to the immersive game play and will have you thinking twice about you next move in no time. Yes I have noticed the sound `clicks' every now and then but IMHO they didn't become obvious or detract from the game play at all.The controls are simply enough to grasp and the combo's give you something to master (I'm not great at this yet!).And being able to pull bits of the scenery off to batter a baddie adds to the immersive experience (bed posts, gas pipes etc). The few crime scenes' I've "processed" gives you a break from tension of keeping the nutters from killing you and adds an enjoyable CSI-esque challenge. The gfx are as impressive as you'd expect and some of the effects like glimmering black gooey stuff and fire being of note. I had noticed a slight lag at a couple of points but nothing during any action, and nothing I've thought effected the game play.Over all it's a good game and I recommend it to anyone who likes FPS', survival horror or just a good scare.Oh and it is a scary, gory and sweary as its 18 cert should suggest. So don't buy for anyone underage!

With alot of games that don't spend a fortune on advertising and shoving it in your face it takes word of mouth or just taking a chance on a game and hoping for the best, well if you take a chance on condemned 2 you won't be dissapointed as this is a clever well put together game. You play down and out ex special investigator Ethan Thomas who loooks like he's been on a year long bender, but he gets called back into action when they find out serial killer SKX is back (the original Condemned was released on playstation 2 and features a much healthier looking Ethan Thomas) and the only one who can stop him is Ethan Thomas. You are not loaded up with endless ammo in fact alot of the time all youwill have is a steel pipe or something like it so when you do pick up a gun you will have to use it wisely, and a clever feature is that Ethan will have the shakes and won't be able to aim straight unless you down a drink, you will also have to do investigations and you will be rewarded with power ups at the end of each level depending on how you do.The game is a good mix of horror, fps and combat. The graphics are what you would expect now and thats top notch with each levels atmosphere wonderfully created. The only dissapointing thing is level one which is a bit boring and frustrating and doesnt do the game justice but its soon forgot about as level 2 starts and you have the hang of the controls.

I was late jumping on the Condemned 2 game. I had never played the original and was worried that I would have missed loads of back-story. This was not the case. There were 10's of hours worth of gameplay in this title. Some areas had me playing it over and over again while I tried to work out how to complete it. Only a few times did I become frustrated - but this was mainly to my poor gaming skills rather than the game itself!Combat in the game features Melee Weapons and and firearms. The melee weapons do make a mess of the opponent but can only be used a few times before they break and you are back to fist or finding another improvised weapon. There are lots of items you can use as weapons so you are usually not far away from a helping bar or lampshade. As I mentioned in the title, this game is very much like a horror movie. There is great character interaction, spooky baddies, a Cult called 'The Oro' and your own little Alcohol demon which appears from the very start as a continuing theme through-out the game. Play it with the lights off, the curtains drawn and the surround sound turned up. You will get frightened! The only thing strange about this game is that as it was an (almost) launch title there are lots of people who have perhaps overlooked it. Buy this game for the storyline and the game-play - You wont regret it.

Took a chance on this game and bought it before renting it. I have to say it was an excellent decision. The game is very dark and disturbing in some parts and follows an interesting storyline. It certainly made me jump at times. What I enjoyed about Condemned was the vast array of weaponry used to take out the enemies. Every level is littered with different items to inflict some nasty damage. Whether you are fighting psychotic clowns, zombies, exploding dolls or drugged up tramps you can enjoy sending them to their deaths by caving heads in with bowling balls, 2x4s, bats, axes, lead pipes...or even slice them up with ancient broad swords. The hand to hand combos are simple to use if you want to use your fists, you can also grab a stunned enemy and perform an `environmental kill'. For example if you stun an enemy near a glass case - you will be prompted to drag them to the case and smash their face into it. Every level has different environmental kills as well as weapons. As you progress, more combos are unlockable plus loads of extra upgrades.IGNORE the griping from other users about the sound. It's not great but it really is very minor, it's a sombre, dark game - the gameplay is great and you will be too busy slotting the bad guys to notice. All in all a good game that is addictive and violently satisfying.

I've never been a fond recipient of horror games. Experienced a handful in recent years but the reliance on cheap scare tactics is off putting. Luckily the early 2000's Condemned series puts more effort into creating a solid horror atmosphere than most contemporary titles, and the addition of their first person perspective really adds to the immersion. Graphical presentation is aptly murky and dour, sound effects nerve shredding, there's a plethora of grisly encounters with an assortment of "influenced" (Downtrodden vagrants/addicts gripped with insanity.) and an equal amount of handy offensive gear.Admittedly I'm a little lost on the story since the original game wasn't gifted a widespread release, but Bloodshot's plot is still fairly strong and thoroughly unsettling. Even with the numerous environmental hazards and homebrew weaponry approach, you never feel truly at ease when fighting the human (Yet unnerving resilient.) opponents. Plus there's a few enjoyable if disorientating nightmare sequences than allude to the protagonist's fractured mental state. In conclusion the game is definitely a memorable experience, shame there never was a continuation or spiritual successor.

Before I begin, let me just say that I've only played the demo of Condemned 2: Bloodshot by downloading it from the US Playstation Store [which is easily done considering im in the UK] and might i say what a game. Now, i don't know much about the plot but the actual gameplay itself is incredibly refreshing. The L1/R1 attacks work really well, not just using your fists but Electric Conduits, False Arms and Legs, Bricks, basically ANYTHING you can get your grubby mitts on! The enemies you'll be taking on range from strange oil like demons, to crazed tramps, hell-bent on beating you senseless in the dark, gritty alleyways. It all works brilliantly together as the animations look incredibly realistic, even as you throw and kick your enemines about the place. As for the graphics, absolutely top-notch lighting effects, to the painstaking detail of the environments all come together to create a truly creepy gaming experience. Now, just from the demo, its clear that this game is an '18' rating and rightfully so. But DON'T let that put you off, even when the gore starts spraying, just sit back, enjoy, and scare yourself silly!Bloody brilliant!

I took a risk and bought this game the day it was released and im pleased i did. The single player mode on this game is very good and you can get involved with what the game has to offer (forensics for instance), game play is good and disturbing in parts and you have to think with what you do and where you go in this game which also helps you get involved in it. The combat is brilliant and brutal!. Ther are some sound faults but these generally go un-noticed and can be fixed with a patch, but it's not that bad. However online isn't very good, i'd give that 2.5 stars because the maps are small and enclosed and its gets mad when there is more than two people fighting each other, which happens alot.Don't buy for online, Buy it for single player!!!! FANTASTIC!!!

Picked this game up a number of times without giving it a second thought. Bought it through a recommendation from friend... and really enjoyed it!!!Never played the first game so came in cold on the sequel however, due to the simplistic nature of the game and plot you'll soon catch up.Having been a fan of classic fps/action genre games such as Half Life 1/2, Dead Space, Fallout, Resident Evil franchise and so on... I was pleasantly surprised with this little beauty. Gory? Yes! Brutal? Oh certainly! However, there are enough puzzles scattered throughout the game to keep the mind ticking over whilst you clobber the semi naked drug addicts to death with a toilet seat!Great game!...excellent hand-to-hand combat action... and a bargain at this price!

Wow, this is brutal, but with good hand to hand and shooting combat worked into a great storyline you find yourself drawn into the crumbling world of the main character. A violent alcoholic washed up cop isn't standard hero fare, but this is not the standard game. Battle you way through a variety of spooky locations : abandoned toy factories, museums, old theatres, solving some interesting puzzles and dispatching crazies in an interesting fashion - head in a vice being the most amusing. Great stuff, more please.

I liked the concept of this game. a down and out drunk fighting evil and it does work to an extent. The game is actually quite good to play but let down, as one reviewer has already commented. by the poor controls when fighting. By the time you have figured out where an attacker is, they have moved! This is more apparent when fighting with a gas mask on - you can see very little. There is a CSI element to break the monotony and lots of disorienting sessions. Good yes but great No. And it really is an 18+ game.

26.4.2014

If You liked the first game you will like this. Very much more of the same except with more gun action I wouldn't say it's AS good as the original but the gameplay is fairly solid and the scares and jump out moments are still there. If you like FPS and want to try a more horror orientated game than this could be for you.
