My husband and I were using a larger, softer insulated bag to keep food cold when traveling, but we eventually realized that it didn't work very well. Even with ice packs, our food and beverages would only stay cool for a short period of time. This lead me to do some reading about the efficacy of various types of coolers, which confirmed that the soft padded insulated bags are certainly better than nothing, but don't function as a true cooler because the insulation is inferior. My research led me to decide on this compact Coleman cooler. Since we periodically take day and multi-day trips, having a way to keep food and medicine insulated and cool in the back of a car is important.I find that this cooler is the perfect size for a few sandwiches and some fresh fruit or other snacks. Not too big, not too small. If you are going on a picnic or a long car ride, it's the perfect size for a few meals for one or two people. We've found this cooler to be extremely efficient at keeping food colder for much longer than our previous insulated bags. The lid sort of snaps into place and doesn't open easily (you really need to use both hands) to prevent an accidental opening. I really like this.I also happily discovered that three rectangular solid freeze packs fit perfectly in the bottom, creating a shelf on which the food and drinks can rest.I'm including some pics with things inside (half gallon of milk and 2 soda cans) to help gauge the size; sometimes it's difficult to understand how much room there really is just from measurements. If you have any questions, I'm happy to help. If you found this review helpful, consider leaving me feedback.

I was looking for a small cooler to keep perishables cold during a long car trip across country for me and my husband, and I was very happy with this cooler's performance. As suggested by other reviewers, I put the cooler in the fridge before using it so it was already cold before the trip. I then put three ice packs into it, and then added yogurt, cheese, sliced turkey, and some fruit. The cooler kept this food sufficiently cold during an 8-hr drive. We were then able to put the ice packs into a freezer and the food in the fridge at the hotels and airbnbs we stayed in overnight, and put the frozen ice packs back into the cooler for the next day's drive. Because of that,we actually managed to keep the cheese and yogurt cold for three days of driving, which was amazing! If we had not been able to refreeze the ice packs, the food would have only kept cold enough to eat for a single day's drive but that's still pretty good given the length of the drive. The other thing that I really like about this cooler is its compact shape. It fit directly behind the center of the two front seats, providing easy access but not getting in the way. It has a tight seal which makes it a bit hard to open, but I got used to it and was able to open it without too much trouble. I couldn't just reach back and open it, but the cooler has a handle so you can easily grab it and put it in your lap to get a good grip for opening the lid. You can also use a little flat head screwdriver to easily pop it open, which I did the first time but then found I didn't need to do it after that. All in all, this is a great cooler for car trips and I highly recommend it!

It is what it is: A blow molded plastic lunchbox cooler.Vastly more useful than the same size Igloo Playmate. About 30% more usable interior space, in the same footprint and height. Flat lid so you can close it and set your drink/sandwich down on it. Tall enough interior so that drinks proportioned differently than a 12 oz soda can can be carried. The only downside is that the positive latching mechanism for the lid is easily overwhelmed. The lid is secured only by two lips which form a shallow clip (when you push the lid down, the lip on the edge of the lid is pushed underneath the lip on the body), so if anything solid is even slightly extending into the space the lid needs, it won't stay tightly closed.I've had even folded-over ziplock bags create enough resistance to pop the lid back up and break the seal. That said, it's a vastly less infuriating flaw than the Igloo's tendency to pivot and dump everything out when you pick it up if the lid has come unlatched and fallen open, or it falls over.

I bought this cooler for my husband to take with him to work. I almost bought the smaller 6 quart version, but I'm so glad I went with this one!It is not overly big & awkward to carry like I imagined. I think it is perfect for a working man's lunch -- a couple snacks (fruit, chips, etc) sandwich, granola/cereal breakfast bar, cookies or dessert, a few poland springs water bottles & 20oz Gatorade. He puts 2 soft ice packs on the sides, & a small blue ice brick in the middle. He says his lunch & drinks are always nice & cold for him. He also likes that the lid is attached so he can't lose it on a job site,& he also likes that it is a flat lid so he can use it as a stool to sit down on during break/lunch.I've used this cooler myself on the weekends to go to the beach with our 1 year old son. I pack it with snacks for my son & myself, his milk & some water. Works perfectly for us on even the hottest of days. This is great cooler. Perfect size & does its job well! I highly recommend it.

My husband is not good tocoolers at all. I always ask him if there was something in his childhood that caused him to treat coolers as bad as he does. I bought this one because his last cooler had stuff in it that I couldn’t even identify. You ladies know how men go to work and spill stuff in their coolers and it turns into something treacherous and probably unhealthy so you have to end up buying a new one like this. I was not about to touch what it was in the old one because I felt it was a health hazard so I bought this one and I keep it clean and it’s all nice and shiny and clean inside. He carries a 2 Liter of water, cold water, in this cooler every day and some snacks and it has plenty of room. It’s a good sturdy material and handles the weight of the products in it very well. I’ll give it five stars and I highly suggest that you get it. It can also hold I think, a 12 pack of canned beers but I prefer bottles so maybe 6 to 8 glass bottles can fit in this one.

I bought this a year ago and use it frequently on day hiking and little beach trips. Sometimes packed with ice it can be snug but I knew that would be the case when I purchased this size. The cooler is also narrow so certain food containers won’t fit in flat. Attached are photos showing that you can fit a full bottle of wine in diagonally and it will close- woohoo! I’ve filled ice and small snacks around it once it’s placed and had it work just fine. The only aspect I don’t like is I have to fight the top once it’s been closed for a period of time because it seals shut. Grew up camping all my life and have used various brands and sizes and this little guy takes a lot of work to pry open incomparison.

I bought this to take to work and keep cold drinks in for the summer. It's a good size and very sturdy. It has a hinged closable lid that while not water tight, stays closed . It's been keeping ice all day inside my work truck. And that's saying something living in Texas in the summer. I'm glad I got the nine quart not the five, it would have been too small. It has a small grove formed into the walls that looks to be for a divider, but it didn't come with the cooler. As long as the plastic handle holds out I should get several years of use out of it. If someone needed a cooler for say more than one person they'll need a larger size, but this is perfect for one person.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!! My job requires me to be out in the field a lot so I’m never quite sure if I will have access to a fridge, well this this bad boy, I don’t have to worry about that!!! I originally tried the 5 quart cooler but it was too small for my lunch and an ice pack, so I decided to go up a size even though I was worried this thing might be too big, it turned out to be perfect! Yes it is a little bigger than your average lunch bag, but if you want to Jeep your food fresh and your frozen items frozen GET THIS THING!! I love it!! I love to try and eat pretty healthy, and this thing allows for Tupperware and ice packs! Great deal!

This cooler keeps ice frozen for several hours, almost 20. Although capacity is eaten up when you put in more ice, the 'lock' feature on the lid keeps the cold locked in nicely for a long time. This is great for day trips or weekend trips for a small family of 3-4. It's very well constructed. When we got back from our trip, we left the box open while we unloaded. the ice was still frozen after 2 hours when we emptied it, even with the box partially open! The only con I would say is the space. With more ice in the cooler, there's less space than you think. Items at the top have to be flat or the lid will not close properly.

We purchased one cooler, loved it, then purchased another. They certainly are great, but I'm really annoyed that the inside isn't square so some space is lost (the walls have sections that stick out slightly). I live in the desert, so I'll take one on small grocery trips with some ice or packs to put very temperature sensitive items into. They are great lunchboxes. Husband uses one as a humidifier for his cigars, and we are planning to use one as a poor man's sous vide - he already tested that hot water will stay at the right temperature for the desired length of time. There's more to lunchboxes than just lunch!

Leaving a 5 star review to make up for the fact that a bunch of idiots posted 1 star reviews simply because the cooler was "too small," & they apparently can't read capacity & dimensions. Note: it is not the cooler or the manufacturer's fault that you don't read item descriptions.Mine came damaged, which sucks. The front of it was caved in & the insulation was sticking out. I tried to put it back together but the lid won't close like that. Processed a replacement, free, instantly. Hoping the new one comes undamaged.Edit- second one came & it was in perfect shape.

I’m a UPS man. With this hot summer I needed a bigger cooler for cold drinks to get me through the day. I was using one of those small Igloo coolers. It only held 2-3 32 oz bottles, with ice packed in. Wasn’t gonna cut it! Ordered this Coleman and am happy as can be. I basically doubled the size. I can get 4 bottles with ice in cooler. Perfect. It’s pretty heavy duty. It can handle banging around. The lid can be a little difficult opening. When it’s closed it’s very snug. I actually like that it’s so snug. It’s not too big to carry around. All pros here. A great buy.

This is a great little cooler to take to the pool if you're just interested in keeping a couple of drinks and a sandwich nice and cool. It really doesn't hold more than that but it's very nice. Sure it's tough to open and you need two hands to do that but that's okay I have two hands. For those with only one hand I would suggest maybe some other cooler. It's lightweight and it keeps things nice and cold. We're and has flat top so you can use the top to rest your drink on if you would like. I like the blue it reminds me of a sunny day. I'm very glad I bought it.

21.4.2021

It keeps my drinks cold for pretty much the whole day but the lid is so tight it's actually annoying to use. I'm not just talking about oh it's kind of a tight fit I mean you need to like get into position and pry the thing off every time you want to open the cooler so it's not ideal if you have anything that can spill or if you ever want to put back in an unfinished drink. It wouldn't be so bad if there was anything to grip on to besides the lid but there's nothing you can really hold to anchor the cooler down when you try to pull the lid off.

I bought this instead of a much more expensive option and I am glad that i did, the cooler will keep food cool for 3 days with 3 bags of unopened ice in it under a partially shaded summer environment or it will keep cool for 1.5-2 days with 3 bags of unopened ice in it under the direct sun. I have had no problems with the lid after many camping trips it still shuts tight and the drainage spout on the side is very useful, If anything it might be too big, I maybe should have gone with something smaller for 3-5 day camping trips.
