i bought this item several months ago searching for an alternative mmorpg after becoming bored of world of warcraft. this game had had many a good review, particulry from the likes of comic book and superhero fans.installing the game wasnt a problem, apart from the very long initial download patch. which took me several hours to complete with a 1/2 mb broadband. but the wait was very much worth it.first off the character customisation is so in depth, i built about 4 different characters before finding the one that looked the coolest, as doing so is very important as you will have to pay some very steep in game prices to change the appearance later.after creating my character and rushing through the tutorial (which i might add wasnt the greatest ive ever been through,as only the bare basics are taught to you and you will be constantly asking how to do things during later in the game) i was suprised by the number of people in the game world. there are many servers on the game which you can choose which one to join, which is important you pick the right one if u want to be playing with a friend. the party system is also very good as you can find players very easily. but this is where it differs from other mmorpgs i have experienced as instead of shouting out messages globally to find people who want to join in the same quest as you, instead people will join your group just for the exp and probably alredy doing the same quest several tiems before. and this is where i did not like the game as because you dont seem to be following any particular chain of quests, it is not very plot driven as other games such as world of warcraft and guild wars.all in all this is a very good all round mmorpg for anyone new to the genre. however if youve played through games such as world of warcraft the game may not appeal to you as it seems too simple and becomes quite repetitive quickly, aswell as the scenery.

I've had City of Heroes and City of Villains for a good few years now and after a short to play World of Warcraft, then Age of Conan (no more of that I'm afraid) I have returned to find I love the game just as much as before, if not better. The wealth of options at character creation remains one of the finest I've seen (it makes the pitiful character creation of WoW seem woeful) and makes it hard to decide what sort of character you would to go.Play wise the games are simplistic but fun; you're a hero/villain, fight crime/commit crimes... that's it. But that does not seem to matter as you'll be having so much fun. At first getting around is a bit of a slog but come level 14 and your avatar get's travel powers the game opens up (Flight and Super Jump are my favourites)in a way you won't believe possible.I have found it easy to join groups in both games and by and large the gaming community is fun and easy going; you can solo it but the fun you get from working with a team is by far one of the best things about this game.Recent updates such as a player crafting system, mission editor, Day Jobs (which add bonuses/buffs depending upon where a character logs out) and power customization (allowing a player to alter the colour and effects of certain powers as well as the animation on others) allow the player a great amount of customisation and freedom. The biggest problem is like all MMO's; end game content which truthfully, city of heroes caters for.

What can I say apart from brilliant! This is a highly immersive and addictive game that will probably cause either insomnia or relationships issues. You start of by choosing a character of one of several archetypes, all of which have different attributes. Some are damage dealers, some have the ability to summon pets, some can heal, others can just take the flak and then there are the Kheldians, but thats another story!. You level up by competing missions, killing baddies/goodies, etc to give yourself more powers, from flying to devestating attacks. The online community (as with most MMORPG's) is large and you can end up teaming with upto 7 other characters to form an unstoppable team. You can also start up a supergroup where other characters join and help you build up a base. In doing so you can get teleports to locations, have base raids, store items and much much much more. When I first played it the first 2 hours seemed a bit slow, but I have a low attention span, but after that, I would play to the earlier hours of the morning with the 'just one mission' mentality. I now have several 'toons' of different types and new friends to fight with from all around the world. If you are used to MMORPG's or don't even know what a MMORPG is, is irrelevant. Just buy the game and look forward to an every updated and improved game that will get you wanting more.

I boaght this game when it fist came out and was so addicted I actully stopped playing it!I am an avid World of Warcraft player but after a while I find it boring. Nuff of that tho, This is the most fun game iv played ever! Its not just the fact you can create your own char from head to toe but you can also write your self a story for it. This is what got me hooked trying to make an interesting and maybe funny story up about your char. The powers are great and there are many to chose from. Plus out of all the games I have this one was the only that got my partner hooked aswell. I will warn you that it is repative but its up to you to make it more interesting. You can just go from mission to misssion or you can look around explore the surroundings or look for thse hidden missions after around lvl 15 ;). Plus unlike WoW you dont pay for new expansions there free and the Guild bases are out of this world can be as highly modified as your char can be. Well im not going to give anymore away play it and find out!!!(Just an extra note you do get to fight super Villians goodies just that there is normally more than one of them in a mob)

My son (then 12) bought this game with some pocket money in 2005. He drove me mad for six months, begging me to buy another copy so I could play with him. I've been addicted for 21 months now. We have four accounts in our house now. Each costs £8-9 a month. Best value ever! From buying various games regularly for PC, PS2, DS etc, the kids hardly ever ask for anything. Definitely cost effective! It is a great game. Yes, you can solo if you want but teaming is much more fun. They bring out updates regularly which keeps the game fresh. There are always new challenges. The "black market/auction house" system of buying and selling various enhancements is fantastic.I've never tried WoW and keep thinking about it but people who've played CoH/V and WoW almost always say that CoH/W wins every time. This is a steal at £12.50. I can almost guarantee it will be the best £12.50 you've spent in a long, long time. I've been playing games since the early 1980s and this is the best game I've ever played... by a long, long way.

If I don't buy my husband a second account soon, I may well end up divorced - but it will be well worth it! City of Heroes is a wonderful game; full of funny interesting people who welcome you in with open arms. Be warned though - it is highly addictive!

Was a brilliant game but sadly the game is no longer playable as NCSOFT has closed down all the servers for the game and there is no offline mode.
