Chanel Number 19 refers to the birth date of Coco Chanel, August 19. The perfume was launched in 1970, and it was created by Henri Robert, who created many perfumes for the house of Chanel. A fragrance is not easy to describe, but I'll try my best. This Eau de Parfum is a floral-woody-green fragrance, a white and green floral harmony with top notes of bergamot, but its heart is rose, and iris, while the base sees vetiver, oakmoss, and leather. It has a prominent green/grassy opening that makes me think of fresh cut flower stems. As it starts to settle you get the iris and rose as it turns into a beautiful bouquet of flowers. The final dry down has a warmer, sensual side thanks to creamy and smooth sandalwood.

This is THE perfume. Not brassy, blingy, overly aggressive, cheap and nasty, nor ridiculously 'designer' for people with more money than sense. If you can afford a classic fragrance, and one that will last all day, buy this.

Absolutely fabulous perfume, have used this for about 40 years and adore it. I use the bath and shower gel and body lotion too for a special treat, not cheap but what French perfume is. This is well worth every penny.

One of the great scents for those of us who value a lighter, more astringent ones. It arrived promptly, well packed and I have enjoyed it's refreshing qualities throughout the recent heatwave.

This has been my perfume for more than 20 years. I am totally biased. It is a bit of an investment but it lasts. One does not need a lot and the scent does not fade.
