Apart from an annual flutter on the Grand National, I have no interest in horse racing. But after reading up on Champion Jockey, I decided to take the risk-free gamble of £6 on something that I thought could keep my interest for a week. And I'm glad I did!The game has an 80s arcade feel to it through the menus, dialogue and overall presentation. Although that might sound dated, it's actually rather enjoyable, as it feels like taking a step back in time to when life was a lot simpler and games were a part-time bit of fun.Getting to grips with such a complex sport worried me - but the tutorial at the start of the game made it very easy to pick up,and as a result I went into my first race expecting to be able to hold my own.The races are tremendous fun. You have to match your race to the preferred style of the horse - ie, a front-runner has a better chance of winning if it leads the way, while a back-runner will give you a good race if you leave your charge until the end of the race. As a result of this (and the individual characteristics of each horse), each ride feels different, and you need to quickly appraise the situation before the race begins. It's great fun, a great challenge, and nothing on the XBOX has felt better than charging through the pack on the last corner to sneak a win by a nose!I've given this 4/5 stars only because there are no real names or tracks, and because I find it easier to play by controller than by Kinect (which is actually pretty good but I find it harder to win via Kinect). For £6, a must-buy. Enjoy.

I've played all the previous G1 Jockey games, so had high expectations for this.I think the graphics look a lot better, horses look very realistic even to the point of the various shades of colours and sizes (you can get large and small horses although this is totally random)The initial training you get when you first start a game is a lot better and for someone who has never played the game series before it would be very easy to pick it up. I found it a useful refresher having had played the previous games. You get practice races too. The only annoying thing I've found so far is that I've not worked out how to get onto the tutorial to go back and practice some of the things I've learnt. The jumping races are great, you get more variety of fences, and like real life, you only get one season a year. The extra abilities that have come from the original gallop racer are quite useful, like sretch bursts. Although some are negative problems, but some are a bit ridicilous. For instance, if you've got a good jumping horse, why do they have a negative ability 'don't like landing?!'You can race on dirt and turf, and there are a good variety of race tracks inc a japanese one which does night races. So all in all, a good game to have if you liked the previous G1 jockey series.

Thought I'd try this game as there are distinct lack of Horse Racing games available. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Ignoring the very "arcadey" set up, lies a very complex and immersive Jockey experience. The Story mode is well thought out - occasionally the story gets in the way a bit of the gamplay but you can easily skip through the dialogue. The controls are a bit tricky at first but it doesn't take long to master them. The races themselves shouldnt be as addictive as they are, but I am forever saying "oh just one more race" and as you go through the difficulty modes the game becomes more and more challenging. You also have an option to breed and train your own horses,by choosing your own dam and sire, and then putting it through its paces throught the training option. The training itself I find pretty difficult, so normally utilise the auto train option. There is a great sense of achievment when your horse ir ready to race and you get a win with your own bred horse. All in all this game will have you celebrating victories and cursing defeats!A very good effort, and with a few tweaks in a possible sequel - could be an amazing game. And for the price on offer too - I'd recommend this to any horse racing fan!

Had my doubts at first about it, as I just went straight into racing mode and got well and truely beaten.Soon realised I needed to do the tutorial, abit of a head blag for my first few days, but when I got used to placing my horse well in the first few furlongs, not bumping into others and getting the pace right - it became the most addictive game I've ever playedI'm now in my 6th season on it, 2 time Champion Jockey, and just stepped upto the hardest mode there is and i'm doing very well due to regular rides i've acquired & also breeding & training one of my own, Naming him 'Black Caviar' !Also had freinds come round to play it and we had a right laugh on the Kinect version - great fun all around.Cant wait for the next installment (Hopefully with licensed jockeys and course names!)

this is the first ever review. champion jockey is the best horse racing game iv played. its good to see that both games companies g1 jockey and gallop racer joined together to make a more realistic horse racing simulation, the downside for me is the horse training and breeding. on gallop racer you had the chance to build your own stud farm increasing the number of horse you trained each time, you up graded your facilities and you had more horses that was your own. graphic are good and the horse move in the race like in real life. the bad thing about g1 jockey4 was the horse seem to be glued together in the race. you could never get in to positions u needed, which i see has now been rectified.in all a fun games with in-race tutorials to help you become a champion jockey.

having played g1 jockey @ gallop racer on the ps2[still own] waited for the price to come down on amazon as i wanted it for xmas i cant comment on the story mode as i only play it onthe vs mode with my wife, graphics are top notch great hd just turn the music off and listen to the horses running through your 5.1 system its great that all courses are unlocked on this mode not like tiger woods on xbox, like to race the flat both turf @ dirt and finish off over the jumps , if your looking for a new sports genre and sick of golf or football then try this and have a competitive nature then try it wont 'dissapoint'ps always wanted to own a horse and call it [10 to 1 bar]love to see that on screen in abookies

Being a massive horse racing fan, I was delighted when this came out. Even though none of the real track or race names are used, it's still a fun enough game to play (Even without Kinect). The graphics won't blow you away, but it's the fun element of the game which should be concentrated on and I've barely put it down since I first played it last week. The story mode can be a bit cheesy at times, but it's actually really tough to win a lot of races, so there is definitely longevity in the game. There's online modes and Kinect support too.For eight pounds or so, you really can't go wrong with a game like this. Even for the non-horse racing fans, you could do a lot worse than try this.

I had played Frankie Dettori horse racing previously on the first xbox and enjoyed that immensely. This is much better with more options and features. The jump season is great fun, if a little frustrating at first. The controls can be made as easy or complicated as you want them to be due to the "Auto" feature on some of the actions so you can customize it to you ability. Great fun and sense of achievement when you nail another horse on the line or get a no hoper on the podium for the first time. Recommended to all horse racing fans. Just wish it had real names of jockeys, courses and races.

I've played all the G1 jockey games and this one still lives up to the hype. Very enjoyable with plenty of competitions provided from apprentice to pro, you are able to make the game as easy or as difficult as you wish by changing both playing levels and controls. This can also be done during play, so as you become more experienced with the game you can adjust the difficulty without having to start a new game, brilliant. If you have an interest in this style of game then give it a shot, you won't be disappointed.

I had the original Gallop Racer on the PS & enjoyed it immensely so when a friend told me about G1 Jockey (on the PS2) I started to look around to see if there was anything available on the PS3. I found this amongst several others & I think I got the best of the lot. Getting used to the controls takes a while but all in all its a great game.

I do enjoy Thoroughbred racing, so this game was right up my street. And you know what... it takes a while to familiarise yourself with all the controls, but - it doesn't suck. Really doesn't suck. In fact, great fun. Especially with Kinect.

fantastic game, hard at first but gets easier, this game is worth 5 times as much as they sell it for compared to some of the rubbish out there, yes the graphics and speech options are poor, but who cares when the gameplay is top,top class
