Like other Reviewers I was expecting disappointment from 'Captain America Super Solder.' I bought it because several sites had said it was better than you might expect. Actually, I traded in 'Thor God of Chunder' or whatever it was called (absolutely terrible, terrible game). I always finish games, but I left Thor midway through Jotunheim even though he was a favourite of my comicbook reading childhood. This game is so much better that it's hard to describe the difference.Captain America Super Soldier (or 'CASS' as we'll call it here)has become one of my favourite games ever though. Big statement, so let me explain why I play this game more often than Force Unleashed or even (gasp)Arkham City (although I obviously think that is great).GAMEPLAY 4/5 (Yep, you better believe it!)CASS clearly takes its gameplay cues from the Rocksteady Arkham series. There's no stealth so forget about that. You'll repeatedly find yourself either in a melee bout with several 'Grunts' (ordinary soldier types ranging from shooters to pugilists to troopers with body armour) and mid-level bosses (who wear heavy armour and either carry pneumatic pistons or flamethrowers), or presents you with a fairly light puzzle objective (I say light, I'm full on rubbish with puzzles and have zero patience and I never had to call in my Wife once to get through). There's the occasional boss character (but not as many as you might think). I love the combat. It has obvious roots in Arkham Batman, but it works as pure Captain America and rewards you with several moves you might expect to see in a Cap comic book (LOTS of shield-clanging blows; kicks off the wall; rolls and flips into hooks and crosses; the critical punch cutscene is perfect). I also love the 'tap-on-shoulder-right-cross' move. The shield moves are truly great. I have never seen it done better. Ever. It surpasses all my child-like wonder expectations. Don't miss the one line in the manual that tells you how to hit multiple targets with the shield. That's made replay happen for me.The cons are that the game can be fully completed within a couple of days by an average game player (sorry, I'm only average). If you're not a Captain America fan (or if you're a hardcore gamer seeking a challenge), I can see that it might be light for you. Would really have benefited from add-on packs or more diverse villain encounters.STORY: 4/5Unlike Reviewers before me (i.e. those who were on time!) I actually think the developers have got the Captain's character and storyline spot on. It doesn't reveal what the Movie plot is and it doesn't feel like a cheap cash-in on the movie with no (like the hideous Iron Man -glug, glug, rinse, spit- games from SEGA).GRAPHICS AND SOUND: (a solid) 4/5The graphics are really good. The Captain model is better than anything I've seen Sega turnout ever. The rest don't look like the silly putty rejects who turned up in Thor (cough-loser-cough)or Iron Man I & II (gargle, spit) either. The environment is nice work too. It's not as free-roaming open space or destructible as Arkham I or II as noted above and I could ask for more, but it is good work. Voice acting is excellent from Evans and Attwell. The rest are good quality, except for the brilliant Baron Zemo. He is truly great.REPLAYABILITY 2.5/5Better than you'd think. I'm on my second play through right now and still loving the fight scenes. Definitely repays trying new angles on the fights. Cap excels at acrobatic combat. But you won't find hidden rooms or extras. It is a plus though, that enemies keep respawning, so you can keep clearing out the areas.BOTTOM LINE 4/5If you like comic book superheroes, get this game.

The general consensus is that video-games based on films are awful. They are usually rushed out in order to tie-in with the release date of the movie and there is a sense of apathy towards the game's existence since it is purely motivated by monetary reasons, rather than originality. This isn't always the case however, for example, the recent Batman: Arkham Asylum was released shortly after The Dark Knight, and whilst not a direct movie-tie in, it managed to catch the attention of those who'd watched the movie, and yet remain its own creature without having to sacrifice its own creative vision to tie in to the movie's plot.Unlike Arkham Asylum, Captain America: Super Soldier is clearly based on the movie,Captain America: The First Avenger. It shares the same voice-actors as the movie adaptation and takes place in events unseen in the actual film, so it has some freedom to stray from the movie's plot, although it does mean that the Red Skull is unable to be defeated, since this happens in the movie. In terms of similarities, I would say this game is a hybrid of Batman: Arkham Asylum and X-men: Origins Wolverine. It combines simple RPG progression (a staple in most modern games) with basic action and exploration. There is a sandbox-element to Castle Zemo as you explore, with some areas off-limits until story progression opens them up. There are also hundreds of collectibles, each tied to unlockables in-game, which thanks to a simple map display are easily located and become rewarding rather than frustrating. The fighting system is fairly simplified and is largely based around the shield that Cap slings towards his enemies. It's a mix of defensive moves, using the shield to deflect bullets, and offensive moves, using the shield as a weapon to hit long-distance enemies. The fighting itself requires an element of skill, rather than button-bashing, but it isn't quite as unforgiving as Arkham Asylum's near ballet-like precision needed to attack. The graphics are fairly standard, as one expects with a movie-tie in. There is 3D capabilities, which improves the depth of the graphics and does look nice when you play, but after a few hours, I found myself switching back to 2D to avoid an aneurysm. The boss battles are fairly straight-forward and involve repeating a successful string of attacks to deal damage, which makes them more formulaic than challenging, but it is better than having a random battle where a CPU controlled villain rips you apart with no real pattern to defeat him.The game is an average length for an adventure game, clocking in at about seven hours gameplay, and that was with me collecting as much as I could. There is replay value in trying to collect the bonuses to unlock the hidden costumes & concept artwork. Seperate to the Campaign mode is a Challenge mode, which consists of timed combat challenges mixed in with some survival battles.Overall, this is an enjoyable action-adventurer which manages to shake off the stigma attached to movie tie-ins. The use of the shield in combat is done well and encourages the mix of defensive and offensive attacks. I did manage to complete the game over a period of a few days, but I was enjoying it so much that I was playing it in big chunks. It would probably be best served as a rental, or a cheap second-hand copy, due to the time it took to finish, but it would be a fun few days if you did play it.

like all games based on movies this is amazing and i find it a real shame games based on movies dont get as much good press as they should and actually often get slated and often treated like second class games when in reality its the other way round, things like call of duty are the ones we should look down on.theres nothing like playing a game then going to watch a movie on bluray or whatever and being in the mood for the movie thanks to the game,i even often play games at the same time and having played this on xbox 360 too i can say its quite different but what youd expect from a handheld version.its not totally different game like skylanders 3ds and console versions, but ive got all thesuperhero games like green lantern, spiderman etc and this one easily stands up to them all,and now you can get captain america game and movie for less than i paid for the game alone so its no excuse not to buy them both and enjoy them alongside each other

Captain America: Super Soldier shares a lot of similarities to the Batman games; Cap has a focus ability, the decoding aspects are similar to Batman and even some of the moves are similar. However, the game still manages to be pretty fun, with some excellently rendered finishing moves and being able to grab enemies and use their weapons against their comrades. The game is also able to stand tall above other titles by having many of the cast of the Captain America film return to voice the characters, including Chris Evan, Hayley Atwell and Neal McDonough. The script is also very good, thanks to Sega bringing in Christos Gage, who has written many Marvel comics.

My only bad point to make is that it finishes too quickly (I was playing on Normal level). Certainly nothing of the scale of Assasins Creed, Infamous etc.Having got that out of the way - what a brilliant game and so much fun - the shield throwing and killer punches are just right for a comic book classic such as Captain America. And the cut scenes, evil baddies, etc. are all in keeping with the great Marvel tradition. I hope there is a follow up soon - perhaps with a bit more free ranging choice of where to go and what mission to do. Then I'm sure it would get the full five stars.

I'm 11, and I think this game is really good. The graphics were OK, but could have been better. Everything else is great! The levels were great, and Captain America can do really cool things like blocking bullets and making them bounce back against enemies. He has cool moves, and is able to throw his shield at between 3 and 10 objects at a time, and he can jump very long distances. I wouldn't really recommend this game for under 10's because it's a bit violent, and the graphics in some bits might be scary for those who are sensitive.

Having been somewhat disappointed with the Thor and Iron Man movie tie in games I was pleasantly surprised with this effort. It can be played on the usual three levels of difficulty and it on the hardest where you will get the best enjoyment. The graphics and sound are very good and my only gripe is that I don't have a 3D TV to play it on.

Liked:1.Battle system is like Batman Arkham series.2.Platforming is (in some ways) like the Prince of Persia Trilogy on the PS2.3.The Close-ups of camera & Slow Motion effects when performing finishers or at the end of a combo.NOTICE:The game is repetitive so if you are not ok with it then this game is not for you.Thanks.

Got this game Yesterday even after reading some online reviews that weren't very complimentary. However I have to say that I found it to be good fun!!Bit repetative and the "decoding" parts are way to easy but it's definitely worth a punt!!!

I got this for my son after he played it at a friends. he loved the game! The characters look very true to the film & it is quite a good action game. If you are a more hardcore gamer it'll seem quite easy but it's still good fun!

19.6.2013

This game is without doubt one of the best I have played in a long, long time. The only down side is that the story is very short, 3 or 4 hours and the game is complete. But definitely worth playing.

28.4.2014

Good shield throwing, the voices were from the film, but felt there weren't enough extra costumes and they take too long to earn. I don't want to complete the game just for a costume.
