This hard drive is really small and compact for a 1TB surprisingly and what makes it more unique is the shock resistant casing despite it feeling plasticky and light. I must add that the the casing's plastic borders do bend when forced, but how often and why would you bend it on purpose. I havent testsd the fall of this drive yet, but feeling the case, it can most definetely take a fall on carpet and even concrete if the device should fall from a acceptable height.The hard drive came in FAT32 file format which I then had to do a quick format to a NTSC filing system.I can confirm that the hard drive comes with a cleverly concealable USB cable which can remain attached to the hard drive while it is stored away someeher.

I have been using Buffalo drives for over 3 years. I have never had any problems with any of them. I am still using all 3 (320gb, 500gb and 1tb).The 1 star review that says this drive won't work with his TV, does not say that NO drive of this size will work with a TV. Also, this drive is pre-formatted for windows (ntfs), most media players require Fat32.The software that comes with it is OPTIONAL, you don't have to install it. I HAVE.... it makes transferring data much quicker (I can move 60gig of movies in under 30mins).You don't need to reformat, just Plug and Play. It really is excellent.

Incredibly small & attractive HD. I'm a bit of a noise freak and I can't hear it save for the few seconds it backs-up. A brief chunter and that's it. Not a single glitch with my Time Machine back-ups from my iMac. (Unlike my last, a Seagate Freeagent 1TB, which would never wake for back-ups & needed constantly unplugging/re-plugging) I came back here today not to write a review but to buy another. Sadly however, Amazon have increased the price by 54% since September. Well done Amazon. It's available elsewhere for about £40 less than the £100 here at the time of writing. Great drive.

Buffalo Ministation 1TB Portable Shock Resistant USB 2.0 Hard Drive with Data Encryption. I have had this hard drive for about 3 years and never had any problems. I use it with my Mac so I always format my hard drives to Mac journalized. It is only used for mass storage mainly for my Final Cut Pro video footage and Aperture 2 photo storage. Well made looks good and dose the job well.

Bought this as a back-up media for a couple of laptops. It comes with its own backup software, which I installed and only used once - it works absolutely fine if you treat it as a big USB stick. The extra software is just a complication, so I'll uninstall it. If they made a travel case for it, I'd buy that, too.

Storage is brilliant, it's compact and it really does work well for the intended purpose. The only real issue I have is that the running speed isn't quite there. Apart from that, it's perfect.

i wanted more space for all my files on my laptop best way to keep all extra files you may have especially if you download alot of tv and films from itunes best storage

Fantastic bit of kit, well worth the money, usb powered 1TB of storage for film and backup for netbook, no need for multiple external HDD's.5 stars well deserved.

The only complaint is that the usb cable is permanently attached. This is good, because you always carry it, BUT, I hope that with the utilization it donºt break!

The drive works fine although the software is a little invasive ... if the case is still in the related/suggested items be aware the case is too small!!

It was a good purchase; as we are regular buyers on Amazon website! The only drawback of this product is it could benefit from a longer wire.
