Load the drivers before you plug in the USB device and it's ready to go.Power is provided from the USB port, so that's convenient and one less thing to remember if your away from home.The only issue I found is the unit isn't happy in direct sunlight, I think it may have some sensing unit that uses light to detect the end of the page. If direct sunlight is coming through a window it was reporting a paper jam even thought the paper wasn't jamming.At first I thought it was a fault, but moving it away from the direct sunlight fixed that issue.Easy to use, haven't worked out how to do more than one page pdf files, but maybe I should read the instructions.Good unit works well.
