The key to remember with all sports games is that the AI just cannot reach those dizzy heights of unpredictable drama that occur in sports arenas all over the world. The beauty of sport is that something might just happen - Exeter City may well beat Manchester United at Old Trafford or Australia may well lose against Kenya in a cricket world cup match - you just never know. This is why we love sport. It throws things up in our face that we just do not expect from time to time. And this is why a computer game will never compare to the real thing, and the more it tries, the more it gets wrong.Just look at International cricket 2010. It's so obsessed with trying to make things realistic it has taken the fun out of the game. The whole reason we pick up the controller is to have a bit of fun, and not to tax ourselves too hard by trying to achieve a 60% strike rate in tests rather than a less realistic 200%. Sure, there are the anoraks, the kind of people who purposely try to reach the more realistic figures, and fair play to them, but they are the ones who become frustrated with International Cricket, because their over analytical approach will eventually burn out their enjoyment.Brian Lara cricket 2007 however is a game I constantly go back to. I know that I can pick up the controller and give that cricket ball a good hard wack. I don't have to worry about facing 20 balls to get my batsmen's confidence up before I can finally hit a ball for 2 runs. I don't have to worry about the graphics lagging as the bowler runs up. I don't have to worry about the fact that I could be on 77 and flying when all of a sudden I miss one but my confidence goes back down to where it was on ball one.I get the controller, and I bowl or bat. I love smashing 6's against the Pakistani bowlers. I love bowling the other buggers out for less than 50. It might not be realistic but it's all about having fun! Getting anal about things really takes away the fun in gaming. This is a slick game. It never slows down on my XBOX360, player movements are good (fielders move like idiots though but sadly this seems to be their fate on all cricket games), bowling is fun, batting is fun, winning is great.I brought this game a few years back now and it was the best £12 I have spent on a game in recent years. I have played it for many hours and like I said, people bang on about other, newer cricket games but this will always be the best for me, until/unless a really great game comes along. I'm giving this beauty 5 stars because it has given me so much. And Lord Gower's commentary is superb.

I can remember buying the PS2 version of BLC on the release day and did the same with the XBox 360 version yesterday. I spent the morning playing against the CPU, and the afternoon, evening and most of the night playing on XBox live! So, is it a far superiour upgrade to the PS2? Well, unfortunately, no. The game engine seems to be identical with just 3 extra batting shots (you can now perform two sweep shots and can run down the wicket to a short pitched ball) which take a little time to master, but as far as the shots that you can play to certain types of deliveries (ie playing against the seam is a no-no) there is no difference. The bowling is improved slightly (as discussed below)but still has a very similar feel to the PS2.The graphics have been refined and upgraded, as have some of the instant replay camera shots, but in general you will again notice how similar to the PS2 everything feels. Is it worth buying an XBox 360 and the new BLC 2007? Well, thanks to XBox Live the answer is undoubtably 'yes'. Being able to play online is the thing that makes BLC 2007 the pinnacle of cricket titles available today. Instead of having to 'out-think' the computer (which I've always have my doubts about) you can now actually pit your wits against another person - bowl him four outside off-stump and watch him toddle back to the pavillion as the fifth moves the other way and rips his middle stump out!Although similar to the PS2 version, overall it is worth going out and getting the hardware and software required to play BLC2007 on the Xbox360, purely for the online play. It adds a new element to the game that hasn't been available before and with official organised online tournaments is sure to continue being the number 1 cricket game available.

This is definatly the best cricket game ever made, but you have to realise that there is no competition in the way of next gen cricket games so therefore, it easy beats any PS2 conterparts hands-down.Firstly, gameplay. As it always is in Brain Lara games, it is a batsmans paradise, boudaries come easily and racking up 500 runs in a test match is no hard job, even on some of the harder dificulties. Bowling, however, is greatly improved, the controls and generics of bowling are esentially the same as BLIC 2005 PS2, howver, more refined. The inclusion of a autoplay mode also helps to move things along more quickly in those long test matches. However, same old un lincensed players in exhibition mode and only lincenced ICC tournaments have the real names.Secondly graphics, these are greatly improved on the old PS2 version (as you would expect), especially in HD, the players actually look like the real thing for once. However, with the amzing graphics of Tom clancy rainbow six and call of duty 3, you would expect a little more, but a good 8/10 anyway.Thirdly, the inclusion of xbox live makes this the first online cricket game ever. That is, if you can find anyone to play! With the inclusion of online tournoments and 20/20 games, however, that will surely attract a large crowd.Overall, this is an excellent game which as evolved over the years into a highly refined and much more enjoyable game with many great new features. I highly reccomend this game, even if you are not a die-hard cricket fan. This is a great game to play if you are need of a bit of fun.

I agree with the first post made, great game. I particulary like the batting, the bowling is good, with each bowler having different characteristics. And, I don't agree that catches are WAY too hard, they are challenging at first. But still fun, when you've mastered them. The fielding is good, and there are good selection of fielding positions to choose, when you're bowling.Apart from that though. I don't like how if you do a bad throw, or sometimes if you do a decent throw. The wicket keeper, knocks off the bails, not needed. It's completely pointless, and wastes time, just watching it. I also, would prefer for example, dancing down the wicket, button combinations were a bit shorter, hard to get used to pressing 4 buttons, when you're concentrating on hitting the ball. And as first post, I'd like to see test cricket.Great game though, just need to fix a few problems...

Whilst its the best cricket game on 360... the previous one (2005) was at least more competitive. I mean I've played this on the hardest, realistic setting (test) and made over 1200 runs in 60 overs in one innings of a test match. The only way to make it competitive is to save it after an innings and then load it up and play as the other team and try to chase down the mammoth score you made previously. The only other way to make it remotely competitive is to play as Bermuda or Ireland against Australia or the West Indies. It makes it MUCH harder... you have to rely on lots of singles, but its STILL too easy! I tried a 20/20 game on the 'slog' setting thinking that would be the hardest.I made 435 and bowled the computer out for 65. Silly. That said its still a lot of fun for cricket fans!!

I agree with a lot of the posts here - it is a fun game, but it is far too easy to bat. There is little fun in bowling, and it can feel a little like it doesn't make any difference what you do, you still get smashed around and the catches still go up. Catches are far too difficult by the way!The fielders feel far to slow. All-run fours are far too common, and don't get me started on the throwing at the stumps thing. The annoyance of the keeper whipping the bails off at every opportunity can be alleviated by shouting "Howzat!" as loudly as you can whenever he does it. Anyone who's seen Corporal Jones doing this in Dad's Army will know exactly how to do it.

The game is good - there is no denying it, however it is flawed. The wicket keeper knocking over the stumps every time is very tiresome after a while. The fielding seems to be hit or miss.Never the less, the game is fun, enjoyable and easy to pick up and play. Its great for wasting away those dull sunday afternoons after the roast dinner, but dont expect too much from it.

just played the demo, graphics have inproved greatly. Although the gameplay is somewhat jerky on the bowlers approach making timing difficult. fielding is also a bit more difficult now with the timing bar poping up before the ball gets to the player. Other than these small pointers the game is shaping up nicely. Fingers crossed the jerkyness will be sorted before the release

Brian Lara in the next generation is excellent. Easy to pick up and play but if your looking for something slightly more substantial then it contains the features to accomadate that type of gamer as well. Could do with a few more licensed players and could branch out to club teams but i am just being picky. Despite this its a Quality game!

I played the demo and was quite impressed, never had a cricket game before but I like this very much. Looks great in high def although the umpire looks a bit worse for wear :)Roll on Summer and lazy afternoons whacking the ball out of the stadium.!
