I grew up as a big fan of these pens, you’d rarely find my school pencil case without one, or more than one. As a grown-up I have to admit I’d thought of them as a bit childish- more for kids colouring in than for professionals doing real work- but obviously I have to go back and rethink that opinion, because these are rather smart and useful as a grown-up too. They’ve had a bit of a ‘bling’ makeover as well, or at least this ‘Shine’ set has- with six bold, shiny metallic barrels that are thicker than most ballpoints (understandably) and quite showy and attention-seeking. For my tastes some are nicer than others- the red one is surprisingly smart looking, as is the blue, and understandably the silver one looks the most expensive. However, while I’m not averse to either of these colours by default, the pink one and the gold one both look just a little bit tacky. They write well- Bic are a reliable brand and these are no exception. The mechanism for switching colours is simple and reliable- no surprising pop-back here- and even out of the box, all four of the colours are ready-to-write, no scratching-circles-in-the-corner-of-the-page required either. The resulting marks on paper are clearly the result of ballpoint pens, of course, good enough for marking school homework but perhaps not posh-looking enough for a wedding invite.A strange virtue of these pens is that they’re so bold and attention-grabbing that it may work as a security measure- they are so rare, and so obvious, that this pen will be very easy to find if somebody else in your office walks off with it!High-quality stuff from Bic, and while a glammed-up four-colour ballpoint is still a ballpoint, I’m a big fan of these, still. I just hope I can keep hold of them and my kids don’t end up claiming them all- they’ve already got their eye on them...

There can't be a person alive in the developed world who hasn't seen the ubiquitous bic 4 colour pen before. It went out of fashion a bit when the stakes were raised with those 10 colour pens, but to be honest, nobody wants a fat pen and they didn't always work that well. The classic 4 colour one is reliable and practical and feels like a pen. But you know that, you've probably used them before! So, instead of "hygenic cooking plaster blue" they've decided to go with some metallic colours. I'm surprised it took this long to try different case colours although I must say these have been out for a while, at least three years that I can think of, I remember buying a blister pack of them a good while back. Now,for me, these are cool, but the one with the automatic pencil as one of the "colours" is way, way cooler. Look it up, it's called "bic 4 colour multi function pen". Just a heads up there. So, you get 12 pens in a box for something slightly less than a quid fifty a pen at time of reviewing. That's pretty decent. You have to remember these are very nearly four times as complicated as a cheap biro so you're getting a lot for your money. But they are all the same colour and they'll disappear surprisingly quickly if you leave them lying around, the old ones vanished quickly enough, and these ones are shiny. Two thumbs up though, they are (almost) the best pens out there. The best ones are the ones with the pencil in, that I mentioned :)

BIC 4 Colours Shine Ballpoint Pens - Metallic Purple Body - Box of 12These are the same excellent 4-colour Bic ballpoint pens I've used for years. The 4 different colours are really useful for distinguishing different types of notes, or writing on different surfaces. I always have one in my bag and am always on the look-out for special offers to keep the cost down, since buying them individually can prove expensive. The pens have a really good mechanism that works till the pens run out, and smooth ink flow. They feel good in the hand and are easy to write with.Where this particular pen falls down, however, is that the shiny barrel is slippery, so I have had to put tape on the barrel so my fingers don't slip when writing. In addition,it is not purple. The pen on the box is a pale shiny purple but the pen in reality is dark fuchsia pink. The pink version in this range is a pale pink, so this "purple" one is what Bic thinks of as being purple. I would be delighted to have a purple body on my Bic 4-point pen and was anticipating buying another pack of these to hand out to other purple-loving friends. However, this is shiny pink. Shiny pink may be beloved of some little girls, but it is an entirely different matter for most grown women. That said, everyone who's seen my pen so far loves it!For sale at the time of writing this review at £16.52 (RRP £19.99).

This is a selection of pens with barrels in bright metallics that would be ideal stocking-filler / party bag gifts. Each pen is barcoded, so they look like items that were bought individually. This type of pen has been popular for over fifty years; I can remember having an unwieldy giant multicoloured pen as a child. This one is far more practical. It has four colours, but the barrel isn't too big to hold, it's comfortable. It's a handy pen to have for those times when you grab a pen to fill a form, to read 'Please use BLACK ink', and you can only find a blue one. When the blue and black inks have run out, the red and the green are still there. These write just as well, handy for those uses when the colour doesn't really matter - writing down a phone number, or doing a crossword. They aren't refillable, the pens can't be opened. Which makes them a useful gift for children who like to dismantle things to see how they work. Each has a little loop on top that can be used to pass a cord through, so they can be tied to the loop on a bulldog clip on a clipboard, for example. The thin cardboard box these come in isn't for presentation, and you wouldn't want to give twelve as a gift, anyway.I have tested all twelve, and all work perfectly. Adults may prefer to use the silver barrelled pens, rather than the purple or pink metallics, but to each their own.

As a bloke of a 'certain' age who remembers the 1970's at school very well despite the onward march of decrepitude and time, these ball point pens will forever hold a certain awe to me. And probably many others of my generation. Here in your hand is a slightly overlarge pen that can, by some form of arcane mechanical miracle allow you to change colours with the same pen. It's like having a 1970's word processor in your hand.....And of course as a small school child way back then, getting you hands on something so esoteric was probably the equivalent of getting a new smart phone now. The wonder. The complexity. The colours!Even better, forty years later I have in my hand the same thing with as far as I can tell minimal differences.Oh the joy of old school tech. The main difference as far as can see is that the barrel has a nice metallic finish. My granddaughter likes shiny things and of course this is a thing of wonder. You have the usual colours - all of which a school child will enjoy using to scrawl various things on their school books...And for adults to underline the fact that they have forgotten how to write properly since the advent of computers and word processing...Anyway, these are a great blast from the past that are useful if you need a range of colours. Best of all the design is a modern classic.

I received this pen as a free sample in return for an honest review.I quite like this pen. I am a medical professional and require black, red and green ink to complete my notes each day, so this pen is excellent for that. I don't have to carry around multiple pens to do my job, which is a huge positive. A few of my colleagues were very envious of my beautiful new silver shine pen! Also very useful is the ability to refill this pen when the ink of one of the colours runs dry. I typically use the black more than any of the other colours so being able to refill the pen will enable me to still carry around this stylish pen whenever I want. The colours of the ink are great, although the green is paler than the other colours. It's easy to switch colours and it writes very smoothly. The pen feels quite comfortable in my hand, even after writing a couple of pages full of repetitive notes. The only thing that would improve this pen is perhaps changing the material of the casing. The fact that it is a lovely silver metallic colour means it looks quite stylish and weighty, but when you pick it up it still feels very plastic and light. If they were to make it in a lightweight metal I'd definitely buy a few of those, but as it stands at the moment, I'm very happy to own this useful and great looking pen.

I’ve always been fond of these pens since using them as a child (I’m 60 now so they have been around a long time). Also, I have used BIC pens all my life, more usually the BIC Cristal ballpoints as I find these far superior to other brands in the same price range.I recently revisited the four colour pens when I received a sample of their Star Wars branded range to try. I was impressed by these, particularly with the length of time the ink lasted in each colour (a problem with many copycat brands). As someone who spends a couple of hours a day (mostly in bed) doing puzzles like Sudoku and Crosswords, I get through a lot of pens so ones that last a while are essential for me.So far,I haven’t been disappointed with these pens. They are comfortable to hold and write as well as any other BIC products including the aforementioned Star Wars pens. As these are similar but without the branding, I would envisage that the ink will last as long but alas, I must write this review before the ink runs out so will update later if this is not the case. There are 12 in a pack which represents reasonably good value at the original £19.99 price point. At the time of writing they are selling for £7.51 which is an absolute bargain.

I love BIC 4 Pens and I have loved them from when I was introduced to them at school a good few years ago. Back then they were only sold in the basic white and blue barrel shape with the four colours of ink Black, Blue, Green, and Red. Now BIC has brought them up to date I do believe I have fallen in love with them all over again.I love the pink metallic barrel with this new "look" and the fact they are supplied in boxes of twelve makes them an even better purchase. The main reason I do like them is mainly that of the four separate ink pens included within one pen barrel as I do need different ink colours at work and the fact I have only one pen to carry with me instead of four makes these pens ideal for me personally.BIC 4 Colours Shine Ballpoint Pens - Metallic Pink Body,Box of 12 is a great purchase and one I am happy to recommend for the main reason they are excellent writing pens and very comfortable to hold, the main reason for the simple handiness of having four ink colours held within on pen barrel makes them for me personally the perfect pen.Happy to recommend.

I don't know about you, but when I was at school a multi-colour ballpoint pen was the thing to have - a real status symbol. A three-colour or, even better, four-colour pen was the cool way to write your essays and exercises. How does this present-day pen compare with my school-day memories? Pretty well. The old pens had a tendency to be made of cheap brittle plastic that broke after a while, especially if you liked cycling round the colours. This pen feels much stronger, enough so that I'd feel confident using it with a lanyard through the hand loop at the top. It's smooth and comfortable in the hand and I rather like the metallic purple barrel, although that has to be a matter of taste.More good news is that the pen starts writing almost straight away. I only had one colour that needed to "run in" and that was green, and that was only for a centimetre or so.So - these are fun pens that are well made and functional. Great for the stationery cupboard, or they would make super stocking fillers.

This is a particularly snazzy twist on the classic four-colour ballpoint pen, featuring a pretty eye-catching, metallic blue barrel - definitely a bit more impressive to the eye than the classic, flat blue of the traditional case. It might not be functionally very useful, but it's nice to be different sometimes!More importantly, they're pretty solid in terms of function, too. They don't feel at all flimsy, like cheaper versions of this type of pen are prone to be, and seem well constructed and durable. Each colour locks down into place securely, and they produce a medium line with smooth, well-flowing ink for a ballpoint (again, you can tell the difference from cheaper biros). Not only that, but they're refillable for each individual colour - kudos for making them a bit less wasteful than some stationery products.Great for office / school where it's handier to have a single pen for notes / marking rather than cart around four. A nice twist on a pencil case classic! ✍

Very useful pens, an updated classic. The "metallic" refers to the glossiness of the pink plastic coating - very shiny, reflective, just like metal (though don't know of any actual pink metals!)It has the four colours you are most likely to need - black, blue, red and green, in a pen that's only slighly thicker than normal. The ink is interesting - if writing quickly, you can get a slight fountain-pen effect as the ink thickens at corners (slower) and thinner where the pen moves quicker. It's only a slight effect, but gives the writing more character and interest than say, a gel pen that flows rather too perfectly. The box of 12 works out very reasonably.Mine came with a bar-code sticker on the side (presumably for selling individually in shops), fortunately that was easy enough to remove. All in all, a great practical pen that writes like the classic BIC that it is.

You have to use a lot of pens to justify the 12-pack, especially at the price, but being BIC brand you can be assured they are good quality everyday pens. The pink barrel is the only difference from a standard pen and serves no purpose except to look attractive, and potentially help you identify your pen from others'.The usual 4 ink colours are present: black, blue, red and green and all write equally smoothly. You may find that the nibs of the colours you use less frequently will require a bit of "scrubbing" to restart them, as is often the case with ballpoints. The fatter barrel, made necessary by the multiple inks, actually makes the pen easier to hold and more comfortable to write with over long periods. My wife - whose writing is usually of the sort even a doctor couldn't read - claims that she is able to write more neatly with fatter-barrelled pens like these.

A cardboard box containing twelve ballpoint pens. The box can be opened and sealed up again easily enough. The pens themselves are actually four different pens rolled into one. As the barrels - which are medium sized and good to grip - contain four different small tubes with ink, of the kind you usually find inside a pen.The ink is either Black, Blue, Red or Green. There are coloured buttons at the top, and to choose which one to write with, you push down on the button to lock into it place. Pushing another button will take the first selected colour out of action, and then you push another button again to get a new one in.This took me a moment to figure out, but it's easy once you get it.The pen itself writes quite well, with good clear ink. Whichever colour.A nice idea, easy to use when you get it sorted, and a pretty decent product.

This pack of twelve pens arrived in a branded cardboard box which can be used for storage. The pens have a metallic blue and white casing which is attractive, and they are quite chunky and comfortable to hold. At the bottom there are four different colour options which you use your thumb to push up in order to change the ink colour. The four colours are blue, black, red and green, all of which show up well on white paper. The colour options make these pens useful for a work or school environment. (If you want more fun colours, these pens can also be purchased in varieties which include pink, purple, orange etc.) The ink flows well without blobbing, and the nibs are fine, allowing for neat writing.Overall, these pens are good quality and I love being able to alternate colours, though at full price they are a little expensive.

BIC 4 Colours Shine Ballpoint Pens is a great trio of main pens with the added advantage each pen holds four separate nibs which are easily controlled with a simple press of the button which is four separate colours, I like these pens as they are comfortable to hold but for me the big selling point is that when I have one of these I do not have to go looking another pen if the colour of the pen's ink does not suit what document or letter I am signing. These are convenient as well as being a nice writing pen as well as them being sold at a great price.I love this trio of pens and have had quite a few repeat purchases of this set.A great set of pens which are nicely designed with the main casing being a beautiful metallic colour, this is a pen which will stand out and has already become one of my favourites.Happy to recommend.
