Add-on packs for the most part are just a way to milk more money out of a title by throwing together a couple of levels, a new weapon or two and laughing all the way to the bank. With this title the developers have definitely broken ranks, each of the six new levels is for the most part better designed than the originals. The flag points in the new levels are often around buildings that infantry can hide out inside, as a result no amount of tanks can remove them, you have to enter the building to clear them in order to take the point. Because of this capture attempts are often furious battles.Other balance changes are the addition of armoured machine gun nest in the new tanks, fixing the problem where players in these places are cannon fodder. The new vechiles are all well thought-out additions to gameplay. The Axis gain a heavy model tank that can take massive damage at cost of low movement while the Allies get a fast moving light tank with an excellent anti-infantry gun. Both sides have a stationary anti-armour gun to make base defenses against tank rushes possible. With the new 1.25 patch included this add-on fixes a large number of problems with the release version of the original too.Well worth the price.

The Road To Rome add on pack for Battlefield 1942 by EA Games is a superb addition to this series.I hope there will be many more to come in the future!Anyone familiar with Battlefield 1942 will understand the thrill of being able to pilot your own fighter or bomber, drive your own tank or be in control of your own major warship or of course ,just a humble footslogger,it is of course the infantry who win wars in the end,but I digress, all these and more are available in Road to Rome.New vehicles, new weapons and new uniforms PLUS six great new maps!Fantastic graphics and sound, sometimes when you've been playing online for six or seven hours you almost feel as if you are there, make for unbelievablegameplay.available in single player with computer generated bots but it's the online gaming, with up to 64 players on line at the same time which makes this such a fab game.Buy it I'll see you online and kick some butt.

This expansion delivers a whole new payload of vehicles and six new maps each of which is obviously more crafted to multiplayer gaming than a representation of the real thing. This means that many of the maps are more exciting (with operation husky, a mad dash up a beach into a town full of italians while getting filled full of holes the best of them) and better than before. To play this (or the original) online you have to download a large patch(version 1.45) of about 107MB. If you have a 56k connection as I do there can be problems finding a good game online so better to invest if you have ISDN or broadband as this means a more enjoyable experiance.Overall a very enjoyable game and I find games on the maps included are fast paced and exciting. In fact my only problem is my internet connection! So if you meet me on the battlefield say hi will you?

Battlefield 1942 is a stunning game, it grips you like no other and will create many late nights with its epic multiplayer battles. However, the 6 new maps whilst good, are what other game companies normally give you as downloadable extras for free on a game's website, and don't normally release them as seperate packages. To justify the asking price, I would expect 20 or so new maps, more new weapons and more machines. This release has a rushed out feel, and I would recommend holding out for the more promising Secret Weapons 1942 expansion than investing in this. Another note - the players on the new maps are VERY good - novices like myself would be better learning the game on the originalbefore rushing out to buy this.

Got braodband? a decent spec machine? own Battlefield 1942? Then what are you waiting for? Go out and buy it now. 6 great new levels, all full of rolling hills and winding rivers, olive tress and beaches, Oh, and anti-tank guns,AA guns, light tanks, fighter-bombers and the good old poor, bloody infantry. The levels can difficult or slightly less difficult (depending on your chosen team)but all the blood ,sweat and tears pays off with hours and hours of gameplay.Be warned though, the single player game suffers from poor AI (so I have been told) and I would not recommend the game to anyone without high speed internet access.
