I bought this as a multimedia computer to be used for streaming and viewing movies on my TV, and didn't want to go down the Raspberry PI route, although this box is pin for pin compatible with the Pi. It proved a bit of a 'mare to get it up and running I am glad I persevered as it is much faster, and more capable, than a Pi.Asus DO need to support this board more, at least until the community has matured enough to take over, as they just seem to have spent good time and money on a product but not thought about what to do with it after it goes to market. Is that why it's called the 'Tinker Board'?(Tinker (noun) - (especially in former times)a person who makes a living by travelling from place to place mending pans and other metal utensils.)Anyway, if you like a challenge then get this, you won't be disappointed. If you want everything to work straight out of the box then don't get the Tinker, you'll hate it and tell everyone you meet that it is rubbish and not worth buying, which would be completely unfair to it as it is a great piece of kit - if you're prepared to put the time in. And if Asus invest a little more effort into it too.(Tinker also used to be an English term for a naughty child)Mine is working flawlessly now - it's based on Debian so really easy to perform updates, install software, and just works whenever I need it. I use it to stream full HD movies from my NAS, I stream MotoGP.com from internet in HD, I use it to listen to internet radio and tv programmes, the list goes on. All from either the on-board WIFI or the 1Gb Ethernet port. The amount of free software for it is (nearly) endless and caters for everything you could possibly want to do with this computer. As a final point I also bought the R.Pi clear case complete with heat sinks to keep it safe and cool.

No complaints with the service from Amazon, speedy and on time delivery as ever. Very dissapointed with this board though. It may well in theory be much better than the Pi 3 but in practice it is pants! None of the operating systems available, including the official Asus one, work in a satisfactory manner, problems with WiFi, Ethernet, bluetooth, browsers crashing, etc, etc, etc! If you don't believe me just check some of the user forums. It may well be OK if you are a geeky type and like playing around with OS's, applying fixes, compiling kernels and the like, but if you just want to run apps or play/stream videos and the like steer clear - at least for the time being, things may, and I stress may,get better in time!Addendum 20 December 2017 - I've been running the latest official version Tinkerboard 2.04 OS and it is a great improvement, I'd go so far as to say that it is very good indeed, everything now seems to work OK and it augers well for the future. I'd written off the Tinkerboard but credit to Asus, it looks like it might be a Raspberry Pi killer after all!

Arrived today, downloaded the Linaro image, had the board up running and software updated in just over an hour which, in my experience, is unusual. Well done. It works better than a PI, IMO, is very much easier than an Odroid XU4, to get working and to use but note, the CPU runs very hot. The Product Description on Amazon says "Tinker Board also includes a heatsink, which helps improve heat dissipation under heavy loading or in hot ambient environments. " There was no heat sink in my package which was disappointing. Linaro provides a good implementation of Linux on this board but do read the Tinker Board forum, and get a good quality, fast micro USB card.(Update. 1. To my embarrassment the heat sink was in the box, tucked away in the packaging.2. Read the forums and use mikerr's image. This OS version of Tinker OS resolves many problems of the original OS and runs well.)

This board is well named as you do need to tinker with it to get it to boot up and run without it frequently re-booting.The secret is to not use the inadequate micro USB socket to supply power but instead connect directly to the GPIO pins. There is loads of info on the net to tell you which pins to use. Also it needs 5.2 volts as a minimum, I bought the excellent Yeeco DC DC Buck Voltage Regulator Power regulator which enables you to adjest the voltage into the Tinker.Once it's running the Tinker board is very responsive and fast using the Tinker OS for surfing and general desk top apps. Amazing for such a small board.Oh one final point,it runs very hot especially when playing Youtube videos so I have fitted a small fan to the case.

I've purchased a lot of single board computers. From a hardware perspective, it's excellent. The CPU/GPU combination offer a far more flexible machine than a Raspberry Pi 3. The software is getting better, and with the release of the Android image, it turns the computer into an awesome media centre. That's just one of its uses. In Linux, the Chromium web browser has hardware acceleration and H.264 request for video playback as opposed to VP8 or VP9. It has its own HD&UHD media player with an optimized kernel for supporting applications like KODI.For more information about using the Tinker Board as a media centre, check out ossblogDOTorg

Excellent 1080p video from a tiny board. The board is a pleasant surprise.Warning: Do not buy this board (a) if you are a moron and/or (b) if you suffer from Dunning-Kruger syndrome.Know how to use a terminal and how to compile your own kernel? Get one of these boards. However, reading negative reviews from idiots who don't what they are doing gets tedious after a while. Please do not buy this and give it a negative review just because you don't know what you are doing. Superb little board

Great little board, very powerful compared to the Raspberry Pi. As a Pi enthusiast I'm a bit spoilt as the Pi community is huge and there is a tonne of support online. The Tinkerboard has a long way to catch up. But, it has a huge selling point that you can run Android on it and access all the Plethora Google Play Store apps - something that still illusive on the Pi. The downside is that developing projects from scratch takes much longer as the support is still under development.

As far as single board computers go this one has some decent power. that being said it's lack of support among the community cripples it. If you're looking for something to run Linux on as a basic computer then this is perfect. It also becomes a good Android media player. the Raspberry Pi as community makes the slower machine simply more versatile.

Faster than a pi3 in CPU and up to 10x faster in networking thanks to its gigabit interface.A few months back this has very poor software support, but this has now mostly changed with system images ofAndroidTinkerOS - debian stretchArmbianDietPiYoctoVolumioCommunity support & forum is over at tinkerboarding co uk / forum

Knocks spots off the 2GB Pi 4 in terms of performance.Built quality excellent, documentation excellent.Worth the extra money? It was for my use case, and if you don't need a lot of RAM, you may find that the Tinker gives more bang for the buck than an equivalently priced Pi.

Good SBC for any project requiring fast CPU and good graphics processing. Not suitable for anything that requires powering big peripherals through USB. The OS is also still a work in progress, though it works and is stable

Previously I had Pi3 but then I bought tinker board 6 months ago. I love it. It is much more powerful than Pi3 and the fact that it has 2Gb of ram is just bonus. It's definitely worth buying instead of Raspberry Pi3.

Bang on, running Ubuntu as a Vpn and twonki media server. Don't forget to get a case as well as the kit is just the PCB and you want a micro SD card to boot from.

A solid product. A beefier Raspberry for those that need it. Would like to see more accessories around it. A huge thumbs up for ASUS for experimenting.

The ASUS Tinker Board have good performance. The power from USB is not enough and must have еxternal power supply
