Firstly i have to say i do not own this PSU.I build (assemble is more accurate, no?) PCs as a side job, and a customer got this PSU with a case that has a 'solid' PSU shroud, meaning no vents, and the side was also solid, again, meaning no vents/no cutout section. This PSU can only really go one way due to the screen displaying power usage only being on one side. What this means for ventilation is the PSU will be drawing cool air in from INSIDE the case only.So not only would the PSU be unable to get air from inside the case, but the customer wouldn't have been able to see the power usage screen either. The customer didn't know this which is why he didn't know he'd need a different case,or maybe he was just oblivious? and this was the first time i had ever seen this PSU so i was stumped at what to do about this, because the customer no doubt wouldn't have been happy if i had shipped his PC and he wasn't able to view the power usage screen. So i called the customer and he didn't want to get a different case, so i offered to mod the case (at no extra cost, what else can you do really?), he agreed, and i cut away the side of the shroud to allow the screen to be viewed, and also drilled holes in the top of the shroud to allow the PSU to draw air in. Luckily for me, i used to do case modding back when it was starting to become a thing, so i knew what to do and how to do it.So if you REALLY want the case you picked out, and it has a 'solid' PSU shroud, and you just won't be convinced to buy a different case, then you'll have to do a bit of 'old skool case modding' or get someone to do it for you.You might be wondering why i gave this power supply a 5-Star rating but don't own it.Well firstly, i did install it for a customer and so i got hands on experience with it, and it's solid built without question. It's a hefty bit of kit for sure and worth the money in my opinion. The wattage display seems reliable enough to take at face value going on my own testing using a simple watt meter. Your experience may differ if you have better testing equipment. The unit measures power draw from the wall only, not what your systems components are requesting and actually using, but that's fine, and vastly better than no informantion at all.Secondly, the PSU is actually a Platinum rated SeaSonic build, (and that is an instant selling point for me) that ASUS have taken and modified very nicely with substantial heatsinks, and of course the power usage display screen. (SeaSonic is at the heart of a lot of other top brands power supplies). As it is also Platinum rated, you can rest easy knowing it will serve your system well.Lastly, I may even get one of these myself because it's actually very nice all round, and certainly sitting at the high end of premium components you can get.I'm in two minds about that however, since i already have a SeaSonic PRIME Ultra, Titanium rated 750w power supply. Tough choice in my position, but if i had anything less than the PRIME Ultra Titanium, I'd go for this one without a second thought!

I'll keep this short and to the point: rather than focus on technical specs (such detailed information based on tests and experiments can be found on professional review sites) I would rather focus on how the product feels to the user.First off, it is a beautiful power supply... it has an applied powder coat of matte black ''grainy texture'' paint, that will not scratch and will blend beautifully into whatever build you decide to install this PSU into.• The integrated watt meter and the OLED screen are a really nice touch. Just by looking at it, you can always know how much juice your rig is using.• This Power supply is fully-modular, meaning that all its cables are detachable, allowing the users to install only the power cables they need, and keep the insides of their computers free of any cables they do not need to use. This feature becomes more important as wattage goes up so you won't obstruct airflow with unused cables.Being a premium power supply unit, all its data cables are also sleeved, most of them individually sleeved.• It features a button on the rear of the unit that allows users to enable or disable the power supply's 0dB fan mode (Quiet Mode). When enabled, the power supply unit does not spin the fan unless you are running something demanding on your computer. If you are doing light work that does not require much energy and heat dissipation - the PSU will be silent.· It uses integrated ROG heatsinks that helps to cool down the power supply during operation.• The Asus ROG Thor 1200W also has an 80 PLUS Platinum certification. That means that it guarantees 89% efficiency in full load (850 Watts) and 92% efficiency at half load.It also offers the following protection features: OPP (Over Power Protection), OVP (Over Voltage Protection), SCP (Short-Circuit Protection), OCP (Over Current Protection), and OTP (Over Temperature Protection).✔ Pros:+ 80 PLUS Platinum certification+ Fully modular design for easier cable management+ 0dB fan mode (a quiet mode, in which the fan only spins at high temperatures)+ Powerful 100A on the +12V rail+ It has an OLED screen that shows the power consumption in real time+ Sleeved cables (24-pin ATX, 6+2-pin PCIE and 8-pin EPS) + Cable combs and ties included+ Built to look very rugged and futuristic.✖ Cons:- No complaints (will update if I find anything on continuous use)It's been 14 months since I bought it and so far everything is great.Overall, this is an excellent PSU for a system with serious components, and where noise performance and efficiency are at a premium. This is definitely on the expensive side for a PSU, but you are getting a higher quality component with a clean output that adds to system stability - especially if Overclocking.Plus, better warranty, fanless operation, and 80 Plus Platinum efficiency which will save you (a small amount of) money compared to less efficient options.

This PSU is outstanding. HOWEVER. Remember to use the 4 pin SATA not 5 pin because my AIO got its chip blown. Tbh though its probably my fault for not reading the manual. 5/5overall. Although I would like the fan on the bottom not the top as there is little space for air to breath.NOTE: Just realised the Exhaust is upwards not outwards, Please can anyone tell me how they solved this issue. Thanks.

Came very well packaged, this is my first modular PSU and straighht out of the box oozes quality. It may be classed as "overkill" for some I mean 1200 Watts! Easy to install, very quiet, look at the price, it has platinum efficiency and it feels and looks good (Not that I'll be looking at it.)A nice peice oif kit that works as it should, saved me quite a bit of cable space also.

There is no doubt in my mind that the ASUS ROG THOR 850W Platinum is one of the finest power supplies on the market in 2019. I don’t think you can really get a much better power supply at £200 right now. Not only is it technically very capable, ASUS have taken a solid design and added some useful, practical features to appeal to a demanding audience.

beware needs additional cables/connectors and only the main cables are braided all the others are flat.otherwise it's the bee's knees, normally Corsair AX fanboy and I was going to get the new AX1600i for my new build, but happy with this beauty instead and saved a ton of money to boot, and I sure as hell can live with the quirks.

Asus ROG products are always high end as not only reflected in the price but also the stunningly high quality. It complements my all Asus/AMD PC very nicely with the RGB easily connecting to the on-board Aura chip/software. Looks fantastic and the power draw display is fascinating and extremely useful.

Amazing psu , this is very strong and will work to support all your items plugged in my, I found this worked better for my big rog build which needed more juice , now with the newer 3090 cards they need more power u will need this 1200 strength to make that card work

Superb quality and looks great. It's really quiet and cooler compared to the 850w bronze psu that it has replaced The only problem I have experienced is the software to change the colour of lights was absolutely useless.

Beast of a PSU. Runs ultra quiet even when the fan starts up. Powering my new gaming rig, so far no used over 400W. RGB works well. Remember to plug onto RGB GEN2 Header. Nice touch with the OLED wattage display.

12.1.2021

Also it comes with 3 PCI-E cables which my previous PSU's didnt which is pretty handy given the new 3000 series. Install was just as easy as my previous EVGA P2 850w, I got this to complete my new build.

I've had this for a few months and it is such a quality product I felt compelled to write a review. It is solid in all aspects and very stable. No issues; I highly recommend it. (1200W version bought).

That power supply is a beast! Looks so cool too! I9-9900k 5ghz, RTX 2080TI with full load, absolute 0 noise. I think the ventilator doesn't even turn on. (0rpm)
