Well, like the other reviewer, I have played the German version with English languages.I'm not much of a Reviewer but I'm incredibly compelled to review this game since it is purely magnificent. I have played the first ArmA and though the graphics were cheesy and the game was buggy, I still thoroughly enjoyed the gameplay. ArmA 2 has taken the recipe of ArmA and brought it towards the standard of modern games. There is a huge graphical improvement as well as a huge gameplay improvement. The whole `Army Simulation' promise has been well delivered. The gameplay has a more realistic feel and takes a while to get used to. For example, when you move the camera, there is a motion blur giving the camera a more human feel. When you sprint, your head moves in a realistic fashion and the sound of breathing seems the get denser the further you run, so even the elements of moving are immersive. Although these aren't anything major, it adds a great experience to the game. The AI is a great improvement too, they react according to various things such as realistic sight and hearing. Whereas in ArmA 1, there was a few instances where the AI would spot you in a hill a kilometre away while you are wearing camouflage mesh after you farted. Although the AI is a great improvement in terms of what they react to there is still a few issues. During the first mission in ArmA 2, I spent around 30 seconds looking at a guy right next to me because I thought he was my pal for not shooting me. Then, as you most likely guessed, he turned around and shot me in the face. With that said, I think that may of been my fault since I was hidden in grass right next to him.The sounds have also been upgraded from ArmA 1, the shooting sounds a lot more real. Thats all I can really say about the sounds. Oh, the radio talking still sounds odd, with each word being spoken in a different tone of voice, but that may be because of the English pack. And to be fair, if every radio message was spoken separately, it would include something such as 300,000+ audio files since there would be a vast number of combinations. There has been alot of interactivity added to ArmA 2, you can enter a few buildings and you can speak to the locals, asking them how the weather is, where you are and if they had seen anyone. This is helpful if you're patrolling an area and want to see if its safe before you enter. I would list a few more of the exciting features but that's for you to find out for yourself. The controls are like the standard FPS (W, walk. A, go left, ect.) with a few extras such as the compass and watch. The only complaint I have is that the controls for helicopters and aeroplanes are insanely difficult to get used. It's not a simple case of `W' being up, `S' being down and moving with the mouse. The controls are along the lines of `Q', Add thrust. `Z' decrease thrust'. `W', nose down. `D', nose up. `X' tilt. It's incredibly complicated but it'll appeal to those who enjoy flight simulators.I'll now move onto the campaign. The characters are more established than they were in the first ArmA, they're more a part of the game, this is a little difficult to explain. Characters in the first ArmA just seemed like generic soldiers without any real characteristics. ArmA 2 is the opposite of that and there is also more interaction within the campaign, such as optional objectives, the way you carry out objectives, ect. You have more of a choice of what happens. Being honest, this is the only non-RPG which I've seen give such choices. I haven't really got far into the campaign since I've been having a blast with the built in editor which allows you to make your own campaigns with ease.I know I have spoken highly about ArmA 2 but it truly is an enjoyable game for those who like combat games/war simulators. The game does have its off moments but they don't affect the gameplay and are barely noticeable.I really recommend this game and if you get it, I hope you enjoy it.

I will begin by saying that ArmA 2 (Armed Assault 2) is not really a game, but an infantry simulation platform. It is the commercial version of the training platform VBS2 that is used by military, law enforcement and defence organistaions. The title "ArmA 2" doesn't address any market other than the one which is made up of fans of this particular game and its predecessors. Its predecessors were Operation Flashpoint in 2001, followed by the first ArmA released in 2006. The name changed to ArmA because the developer of the game, Bohemia Interactive, did not have the right to use the original name "Operation Flashpoint" which had been retained by the publishers Codemasters, who in 2009 released an "official" sequel, called "Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising". This sequel was developed by different developers, and it is a sequel that is obviously designed for the console systems rather than the PC. The presence of a circular menu system and the use of save points, show us that little has been invested in adapting this to a PC environment. While Dragon Rising a good game in itself, it is not really a sequel nor is it in the same league of the games produced by Bohemia Interactive. ArmA 2 has a superior "game" engine, a more comprehensive control interface, and superior graphics. ArmA 2 is above all a simulation platform, that has an open ended design making it very flexible and expandable, while Dragon Rising is a simpler console game best left to the console market. In the last 10 years we've seen a demise of PC games in favour of console games and a general dumbing down of all games. PC games on DVD have all but vanished from the shelves of high street computer game shops. Simulators in particular seem to have suffered. Microsoft Flight simulator ended last year, no doubt a casualty in part to Microsoft's trend away from DVDs and towards central control with its Windows Live platform concept. In the light of this trend, it's especially pleasing for the discerning gamer when small independent developers like BI go against the grain and produce a PC DVD that is really good, despite publishers who go for the safe option of pandering to the lowest common denominator in the market with their dumbed down products. It was especially pleasing for me pick up an ArmA 2 DVD from Game and as I paid for it, hear from the cashier the words "Good choice. It's awesome."ArmA 2 is indeed an awesome product that we should be grateful exists at all. Because it takes ArmA and raises the standards of graphics, sound and game play to the level we expect today. Like its predecessors ArmA 2 is a sandbox game, offering non-linear game play, an impressive variety of weapons and vehicles to choose from and incredibly comprehensive command system for the squad management of your AI.ArmA 2 introduces some new interactivity, such as the ability to speak to local civilians, asking them what they have seen and where you are and so on, which is helpful when gathering intelligence information. In the campaign, the characters are well developed and there is high level of interaction in terms of optional objectives and how to achieve them. The enemy AI is devilish clever and realistic. In this respect I cannot think of any other game that comes close to it.The mission editor is powerful and easy to use and offers you great flexibility. If you know how to write scripts, virtually anything is possible. You really can do anything with this game.Bohemia Interactive have done a great job with ArmA 2. Success will always belong to those who dare to do what they believe in, as BI have done, and reward will come to those who dare to back these successful few. Examples of such developers are Austin Meyer and his X-plane, Sonalysts with their naval simulations, and Bohemia Interactive with these combat simulations.Such simulations are worthy of support from the more discerning "gamer".

Yeah I maxed on the ratings for this game. I have to, because I find it, for me, to be the perfect gaming experience. To be clear - it's not going to be for everyone. I can see that some people simply won't like it, but I cannot mark it down for opinions I do not share. And also, to be clear, ArmA2 is only half the equation. What ArmA2 represents is a perfect base to build your game on, out of the box and patched up it is a terrific experience with many unique features, but the thing that transforms an already excellent game into (again, for me) a perfect gaming experience is the excellent user made addons and modifications available.Adding user made content to this game can make it into exactly what you want. You can improve the uniforms, vehicles, weapons, artificial intelligence, environment, just about anything. And the same online community that produces these addons (of which I am one member) is very friendly and helpful. If you wish to immerse yourself in a military game world, ArmA2 represents the best of those military worlds. It evolves and improves relentlessly, not just from user content but from official developer support which is constant and genuinely effective over time.I must mention what this game is not: it's not a flight simulator. There are aircraft to be sure, and they are fun and effective, but I would say the game world, massive though it is in terms of battlefield dynamics, is not suited for fast jet action. It's also not suited for inter-building fights, moving about within a building is clunky and awkward (but not impossible or seriously frustrating) but for anything in between those two "scales" of movement, then ArmA2 is perfect. You won't find a better more satisfying game experience if you're willing to play tactically.I was watching my son play CoD:MW2 last night, in the space of 5 minutes he was killed about 10 times and likewise killed about 20 others. It looked like tremendous fun, it looked as much fun as ArmA2. Only it's different fun, I played ArmA2 last night and played for 45 minutes and was killed once. When I was killed, it was endgame, no magic revival. It can be a brutal gaming experience, but it's also flexible, if you wish you can lean the game toward CoD - style gameplay, but really if you wish to do that, just get CoD instead and play that gamestyle properly. If you wish for lasting, tense, intelligent flexible military gameplay then ArmA2 is the best choice.

okay so in my personal opinion Arma 2 hits about a 7 out of 10 due to three things.Firstly I had to spend two days of playing the game on and off. This was because my new computer is almost completley AMD chipped from the processor to the graphics card. To my woe i find that Arma 2 doesn't like AMD chips. The graphics on the standard setting were very blurry. So bad i had to stop playing every 10 minutes due to my eyes playing up, I did however manage to fix this by fiddling with the 3D resolution. Still i bit of glare but it doesn't make my eyes sore. -1 brownie pointSecondly I had little bugs that just annoyed the hell out of me. For instance (i do not know if this is a recurring thing built into the game)but infantry past about 20 meters when prone dissapear up to their head and the top of their backs into the floor. This makes them very hard to spot. -1 brownie pointThirdly it isn't perfect, even though the AI is so much improved from ARMA infantry but more drastically infantry have pathing issues. I also found that the skill level of enemy and friendly AI means next to nothing, Enemy infantry with very low skill level seem to be able to triangulate your gun shot and riddle you full of holes before you can line up the next shot, even if you are around 700 meters away. I also did not enjoy the campaign (at least how far i got through it). I preferred ARMA's campaign, Arma 2 seems to have taken a leaf out of its half brother operation flashpoint Dragon Rising, and it just doesn't flow as well as it did on OPFPDR even though ARMA 2>OPFPDR any day its just the campaign was all too hard to manage your AI allies. especially when they arn't expendable. -1 brownie point.Overall i love ARMA and ARMA 2, they have always just felt like they need polishing off. if you have a good computer and are into realistic (i mean that in the SIMULATION way and not the call of duty way) then it is well worth getting. If you havn't got a very high spec computer i suggest waiting till the free version comes out (all it lacks is HD graphics and modding support. A step up from ARMA but still has the classic rough edges.

This is graphically the best warfare game out there at the current time. It is stunningly good. In one scenario I was on a chopper being transported to the LZ and there was mist blowing between the hill tops. The day before I had been walking in the Three Peeks Yorkshire Dales and had stood on a hill looking at a scene almost exactly the same... The game graphics are breathtakingly good.On the down side... even in the bootcamp tutorials, some of the instructions are infuriatingly non-intuitive, and the onscreen prompts can be less than helpful to put it politely. For instance, to put your chopper into auto-hover, access the action menu. Yes, but HOW?????As someone else pointed out,the chopper and VTOAL aircraft are extremely difficult to fly, as the game appears to include realistic crosswinds, gusts and down/up-drafts. All I have managed to do with the plane so far is take off and crash!!It is early days in the campaign for me - but already I can see that it is not a linear plot. It can branch off in different directions depending on the outcome of key missions and even secondary tasks. This is a hugely immersive game, and to sum it up I would say this game needs a new category all of its own. It is an RPG/1stPS/Action Game. And I haven't even looked at the multiplayer game yet.UPDATE...OK... a couple of weeks into the campaign, and the bugs are starting to kick in.I am in a scenario now where my 3 fellow squad members are simply refusing to take orders from me for no apparent reason, which means I have to achieve what our whole squad is supposed to do, on my own as they just stand in a field looking dumb!!!!Similarly, I have been given the support of a load of friendly combatants, but the action menu provides no options for issuing them with commands. So they are just standing there looking dumb too :/Oh... and the multiplayer game simply refuses to boot up.I would only award this game 2 stars in it's present condition, but I can't adit the 5 I initially gave it.Urgent fix needed.

When I first heard about ArmA 2, I was sceptical as to its potential, all the hype: I thought it wouldnt live up to it.Having not played ArmA, the first hour or so was frustrating(hense why only 4 stars for fun), so much to get to grips with!(a mute point for ArmA veterans I guess) After that however, it had me playing for hour's. So why didn't I stop playing after the hour of frustration?well firstly the whole game has a realism that I havent seen in any other FPS/tactical FPS.Secondly the graphics are very good, don't really have the 'WoW' factor but to be honest it doesnt matter. Its the realism that makes this game.Thirdly I was suprised at how this game doesn't memory munch like Crysis even though it has good graphics, extensive maps and great physics.Fourthly, it allows you to use joystick for flying Helicopters and Jets. Something you couldn't do in the battlefeild series. That won me over being a MS flight sim enthusiast. Finally it presents a challenge. One hit kills and AI that actaully conseal themselves in the envirnment, Breathlessness making your aim less effective all of which mean if you take your eye off the ball.... it could be to your demise.I have a small problem with the actions interface, it is a little bit slow and annoying, it has got me injured/killed in tight situations (no doubt it is something else that requires a bit of getting used to).A word of WARNING.If your looking for an easy to use, simple FPS like Call of duty, Crysis, Far Cry 2 etc. Arma 2 is not the game for you.If your looking for a realistic, challenging and highly immersive FPS where you feel like a soldier and feel like your in a war (without subscribing to the ARMY) then you'll love this game. Don't let the complexity put you off!!Its probably quite clear, I have focused on the general feel not anything imparticular. I'll add more when ive done some of the campaign and become more familiar with the controls.Well worth the money so far!

ARMA 2 is a realistic war simulation that in many ways is a sequel to the Operation Flashpoint series a few years ago. There are several game modes and while the main campaign is story driven, it is set in a massive open world which easily rivals the likes of Grand Theft Auto in terms of both scale and the number and variety of vehicles that the player can use. On top of the campaign there are a number of single missions that can be played with more that can be downloaded, an 'Armory' mode where you take control of a soldier/ vehicle completing a variety of interesting challenges to score points, which in turn unlock more of the vehicles and weapons for use in this mode. There is also a powerful mission editor. All modes feature intelligent AI; it isn't scripted and reacts to the players actions. The campaign is challenging. Most combat is at long range, from nearly the start you always need to be aware of your terrain, always trying to think ahead. The unscripted AI ensures that if you go back to a saved game to try to do something different, the results are often very different to what you might expect. It is also very believable, the realism offered in the game has often held my attention for hours. The only problem with the campaign is it is sometimes buggy, and when you have to go back to the beginning of a mission because of one it is very very frustrating. The single missions were surprisingly diverse, and one in particular which isn't a 'single' mission per se, but almost a game by itself. You play as a resistance fighter and by completing objectives you get money, with which you can buy soldiers, equipment and base defences.AMRA 2 will start you as an infantry soldier, but you'll soon take command, drive HUMVEEs and tanks and even fly helicopters and aircraft. There is a mind boggling variety of things to do. It is NOT Call of Duty. But while it is described as a simulator, a lot of fun can still be had from ARMA 2.

I've been playing the original ArmA for some time now so i've been awaiting the latest offering: ArmA 2. As a keen 'real world' gamer this game is as close to reality as you can get. The scenery and noise are stunning (sometimes you spook a rabbit in the undergrowth and it runs around like mad LOL) and the AI is exceptionally good. However, to get the most out of these great features you MUST have a PC at the top end of the Market. I have a PC at the baseline for playing the game, but this is slow and bitty. My Specs are Core 2 6600 (2.4GHz) with 2GB XMS RAM and Dual Nvidia 7950GT's in SLI mode.I spent sometime adjusting and tweaking to get the best settings and when playing certain maps i get a good frame rate at a pleasing resolution. The Campaign has some boring videos and briefings you have to listen to but once in the game the story rolls along nicely. There are different ways to finish each mission and outcomes can be different each time you play. However, if like me you prefer to make your own maps for some great battles in COOP mode etc then this is just what you want. The editor is somewhat difficult to navigate if you haven't used it before. But with some good Googling, a vist to BIStudio or even Wiki and you can find some good tutorials that once you've completed gives you a good overview of the editor. Once you've mastered the editor you'll be surpprised at how good you can become in making a map which provides you with a very staisfied feeling when you play it. My advice is to make the map hard and use some of the 'random' features otherwise you'll find it too easy as the enemy will always do the same thing. In ArmA 2 the AI enemy are a bit better at navigating than in ArmA so this adds better gameplay. So overall a must have game for the Realtime FPS enthusiast - if you can afford some good hardware!

If you don't play online then don't bother buying this game until it's been patched about 10 times, you'll just be frustrated by the glitches and crashes. No one likes spending 10hrs doing a mission only to fail it because the APC sent to extract his team runs 2 of them over.Online experience is really good, with amazing scope for team play and tactics if you can find a decent server. But the game still randomly crashes. The control interface will drive you nuts (fear it), but if you can spend some time getting to know it (and you have a high end rig to play the actual game on) you will be rewarded. It will crash... possibly lots.Equipping your man can be frustrating, why for example, can't you just automatically be given the correct ammo for the gun you've chosen, sure it's nice to balance say anti tank rounds with the number of clips for your M16 but not if the anti tank ammo doesn't fit your anti tank gun or the ammo isn't for your M16... that's just plain stupid. Whilst we're on the subject of stupid...If I go to a crate and pick a SMAW it's be nice if the same crate contained ammo for the SMAW that way I wouldn't have to sort through 7 other crates until I found some.I know in real life you train to be a pilot to fly planes/helis but this isn't real life. Considering the scale of the maps, only being able to ride a mountain bike to the combat zone that happens to be 13k away is way too much realism for me thanks. As is bailing out of a smoking heli over water swimming to shore and finding that you 'lost' all of your weapons during your swim.Right now the game is a bit of a mess, but there is something great about it trying to get out. When you have a few mates and a voice server this game really shines (between crashes. It's been a long time since I played a game until the early hours on a school night!

ARMA II, well what can i say, its a great game, the graphics are really good, this coming from a PC Gamer who's played many titles, the game play its self is good, alot of team work is needed for both single player and online, but very good if your the team work person for single player, there is alot of controls and will take you abit of time to get to grips with it all to be good at it, online play for me was ok in a way, there is many servers to pick from but all with different modes and different type of mods the server host would apply, it took some time to find a server good to play on with people who will talk back and like to play co-op with you and others,a headset for this game is a must with a microphone as alot of people online do have microphone and it makes it much better for you and others when in battle situations to get help or call your position without messing about typing while under fire, the game needs a decent computer to play on, that is if you dont want it to be choppy, atleast 512mb graphics card or higher, best check system requirements lab / 'Can I run it' online before you buy this for any more details on if you need to upgrade your pc, even on low graphics, i had to try it to make this review solid and correct for everyone ofcourse, and its not bad at all, im a more of a graphics gamer where graphics mean alot to me for the game to be eye candy but even with low graphics this game is looking alright and is still fun to play, this game isnt for people who want to just quickly finish it, the maps you play on are visually great and are not quick and easy to get across, nor fast to get across, by foot, plane or vehicle, a lot of time in everything you do, so dont expect the game to be quick at all, overall i gave this game 4 out of 5, recommended buy for the older gamers.

Where Arma 1 takes you to the frontline, Arma 2 goes Above and Beyond the Call of Duty!!Like the other reviews below me that the ppl put up here, Arma 2 is a sandbox game made by developers Bohemian Interactive Studios as a game that other developers, modders and scripters like ourselve's can take our imagination further and make the game go beyond the capabilities of what can be done with it.If you are a gamer that want's straight in bunny hopping, been rambo and pleasant T'king, go back to BF2 or Call of Duty, this game is not for you!!From choices of going through campaign's to creating your own mission's via typing up SQF files or having the wizard option in mission editor through single player or pressing Ctrl + E to bring up the 3d version of mission editing,no other game comes close to realism in both Teamwork and making up your missions based upon any pleasant war movie you like and believe me it can be done.3D Modelling And skinning of Any vehicle, Unit, Weapon, Animal, Animation of Gestures, 3D Map Modelling Scenarios, Dynamic Weather System..these are just a sample of what can be done if you put your mind to it even if you got no experience but if you love the game like i do., you will apply yourself to them and mould the game into your own image!!With continious support throughout the community for both Arma 1 + 2, the support is unparallel. For Mods, Addon's, guides and tools to doing these yourselves the support is there at armaholic[dot]comFor tutorials and help the support is here forums[dot]bistudio[dot]comBelieve me when i say that this game is the Holy Grail. You will not be let down what so ever. Go to youtube and look for yourself for video called "Welcome to Arma 2" by richiespeedisback. Enuff said, i will let ye make your own mind's up. 5/5!!

=+= Before we begin, I'm playing Arma2 on a QuadCore6600 with 4GB Ram, 9600GT and WinXP using the 1.3patch. Settings High. No-postprocessing =+=There are three main parts to this game - the main Campaign, the scenarios and the other stuff (editor, armoury etc). If you play this game on the easiest 'recruit' level it plays most like all the other shooters out there, and is still good fun to boot. Play on a harder level and you may find the experience of being in a warzone less than good for your health. It feel so realistic as bullets fly past and kick up the dirt. The tension as you search for enemy soldiers is exhilarating and can be downright scary. The AI, especially when nearby but just out of sight,is very good and it is satisfying to beat them but more than not - they will get you first. You can't approach this game without thought, it is hopeless - it took me hours to work out how to use my teammates, plan an advance (I mean mentally - not pencil and paper stuff!) and make sure every shot counts. It is good that you can save as you go along because autosaves can be unreliably spaced out.Pros: Saving, graphics, tension, realism, sound and details (rabbits, birds etc). Difficulty, Not enough single missions (hence the editor)Cons: too many pauses while objectives completed before the next phase. Lots of keyboard controls to learn (do-able though). Poor radio comms quality (GO_to_POINT_A pause 1 pause 1 etc...) using different computer voices etc is confusing when it should be helpful. You need a decent computer to get all the graphical 'bells and whistles'. Mouse can be jerky even with 'head-bobbing' turned off. Because you die a lot it may frustrate but worse still it may eat up ALL of your time trying to win!!!!

The best way to describe Armed Assault 2, is by telling you what it's original purpose is for. It's original iteration was designed for the United States Marine Corp to train with in Iraq. The results were astounding. Their success rate in training scenarios went from 30% with pure real world training, to 100% with VBS2 (Military grade Arma) and real world training combined. What you get with Arma 2 is slightly more limited in terms of the number of units and some realistic features the military uses in its training. Considering theirs costs £2000 a shot, and the game is only on average £30 you are getting a great deal if this is your thing. What is this exactly? Only the most realistic, joint combat experience you will ever find on any game platform. One shot usually means you're a dead man. It is a brutal, sometimes unforgiving mistress, but when you are fighting on a 100 man server, bullets are cracking over your head, helicopters are pounding the earth with rockets, tanks are rolling past blasting away, and infantry are laying down fire you will understand why this game absolutely rocks. The biggest difference you will notice with this, compared with other more arcade style wargames (ehem I am looking at you BF2) is that you very rarely see anyone on the field during a firefight. The reason for this is because they are hiding for dear life. Watch any real world footage of a real combat situation and you will understand just how realistic Arma 2 is.If you are looking for a quick, easy, arcade shoot em up move along, nothing to see here. If you are looking for a raw, gritty, vibrant, immersive and unbelievably realistic warfare simulation. Welcome to Arma 2.

So many reviews of this game, so that allows me to keep this short and brief. Having played and loved the original Operation Falshpoint which this game is based on, it was sad to see the DEV's from that game break away from what was cosy & natural setup for us gamers, and which left us with 2 different game titles trying to carry on from that original game. we had ARMA(armed assault) made by the DEV's of the orginal who lost the rights to the original title & then Operation Flashpoint makde by the company the DEV's used to work for.Having played both now, to suck it and see so to speak, i found the following imo. ARMA is in my eyes the truest representation to the original OP Flash game, with a huge battleground & the core game mechanics all there with some new updates. Operaton Flashpoint(dragon rising) now, sure it has the title & its a nice enough game, but thats about it, for me the new Operation Flashpoint game now resembles games like Call of Duty or Modern Warfare, with its new game mechanics. So in conclusion, if you want to relive the old days of the great Operation Flashpoint game, play ARMA , if you want another run of the mill Call of Duty like shootem up, then Op Flash Dragon Rising will be more your cup of tea. Each to they're own, but for me in future i will be looking for the game without the Operation Flashpoint in the title, ARMA all the way. Reccomended.

Many years ago I bought Operation Flashpoint (Arma2's predecessor) I didn't like it. It seemed clunky, crude, and complex after Battlefield 1942.But then again B1942 got boring pretty quickly. My cash was spent so I persevered a little with OFP.Then I found the hidden OFP and its editor, and how to simply organise my little wars, my forces. I realised how I could simply edit any game situation in any permutation I could possibly imagine and play it through without restriction. I found a million games for the price of one!Now I play online for free, a new level of fear and excitement I found a vibrant and extensive helpful online community with a mind-boggling array of upgrades patches and new toys to enhance my warfare. That was five years ago, today I play a new and improved Arma, for me its new game every time I play because I make it that way, and anybody can, if you give it a little time.I would stop and feel truly sad for those that have not yet found Arma, one day perhaps, one day...must go tho I have to drop a medical squad into position before daybreak, mmmm perhaps I need a bit of early morning mist/fog cover for my medivac I'll order it up for fifteen minutes that should give me just enough time to stealth in and dust off safely, but then, you never know with Arma, perhaps I'd better make that twenty.
