When we opened this toy we were met with huge excitement from our two children. Luckily the kit is simple to put together as long as you work methodically and make sure that when you affix the waterproof seals that you take your time sticking them. Our kit came with some spare waterproof seal stickers which is really useful - that said you may want to make sure that you immediately put these somewhere safe. We took our eyes off them for 1 minute and our two year old had managed to peel off the backing and stick them to her t-shirt.We took the LockBox outside and put it out on top of our sandpit lid where is sits perfectly. We added some warmish water and the kids were off. They had a fab time pumping water around, opening and closing the gates and letting the water levels lower, playing with the crane and fighting over the one model of a hippo which comes with the set. It would be nice to have a second model to play with as only having one naturally leads to problems when more than one child is playing - even if you try and resolve the situation by offering a Octonauts toy instead. We have had loads of fun with this over Easter and our kids really enjoy splashing about. It generally keeps them occupied for about half an hour at a time before they come and ask to put other toys in the water or if they can get changed because they are completely soaked.Unfortunately I found that when closing up the LockBox it was not as simple as it appears. The gates are meant to slot into the ends in order to hold all the bits and pieces inside the case but unfortunately with our model they don't sit in their slots properly. This means that they keep falling out and the plastic parts inside and free to escape as well. Because of this we tend to carry the LockBox flat which kind of defeats the object of the case. Also the small red clips that hold the case together are a bit flimsy and not really stufy enough to hold the case well.Overall this is a great toy that keeps children of different ages entertained for decent amounts of time. It is just a shame that it doesn't seem to pack up in the way that it should.

I was really excited to receive this as it's a close to ideal toy for my two nephews, at 4 and 6, to play with. What made this particularly special was that my brother had had a very similar toy himself growing up (his had been a clip-together version) and although he'd saved it in my parents' loft, when he came to get it down for his kids to use he discovered that the rubber-sealing clip sections that went over the joints had perished, making his old set unusable. We hadn't known they were still being made! This version of Acquaplay's water science play and learning sets is designed to fold and clip away neatly as a carry case that doesn't take up much room for storage. There are only two sections that join together with rubber-lined sealing clips which means that this is less prone to assembly errors and leakages than other sets would be.The set includes a pump and a digger, as well as two vehicles. It's a slight pity that only one animal character is included as in other respects this is a really good set for two children to play with together. This isn't just about splashing good fun either - there is a lot of basic science that can be taught using this set, including: that air exists (water won't go in to the pump until you push the water out), that water flows downwards - but using a pump you can make it go uphill, the principles on which locks work, and the movement of currents.Despite the learning and fun opportunities this set offers, it's not without its drawbacks. The build quality does not match the price (the parts are quite lightweight and flimsy feeling - these definitely don't compare well to my brother's 1980s version), and the case is a bit of a fiddle to put back together.Pros- lots of fun- excellent for teaching- good size for 2- stores away neatlyCons- build is a bit flimsy- RRP is on the high side

This was for my two grandsons who live away, so it is only recently we've had a chance to see the toy in action. As with most put-togethers, it is not without its problems, and to ensure there will be no disappointments I would recommend set-up without the children knowing so all can be carried out in a relative calm and methodical approach. The general construction allows for this to be two toys. Firstly a simple splash and play; the size allowing other small general purpose bath toys to be introduced. With a pump involved and other interactive parts this enables some element of learning basic features pf water. Overall the presentation of the feature is attractive to children, particularly as there is lots of water involved. With reference to the water, this is a toy which should only be used outdoors, unless you happen to have a very large spare room and a great deal of waterproof covering. As to the question of robustness, since ours has only been in action for 3 weeks this is difficult to say. The one adjustment I would suggest is to place this on a rough and ready plastic table as I don't thing the overall construct would stand the attention of small feet. As regards price, as always this is down to personal choice. These days with most children's plastic toys there is a fairly high attrition rate, but if you are willing to accept this may only last two or three summers this would seem a good purchase.

1 star off because the two blue parts were an absolute pain to put together. It connects in sections and just as you get one bit in another pops out. The last join was v difficult so I'm not dismantling it again ever which kind of makes the fold up into a box part irrelevant. I would advise building this away from toddlers as they with be anxious to start playing and you will be wrestling it on the floor like an alligator. It didn't leak although that's a bit difficult to tell as it's got a hole in the middle and water play is invariably a bit splashy. It only needs 3/4cm of water and didn't take too long to fill up with cups of water. The plastic lock gates, crane, car, boat are sturdy and don't look prone to cracking. You have to assemble the watertight desks yourself but you get 2 spare strips out of 4 needed and you can probably cut squishy foam to size if it ever needs replacing. By storing it whole Ishoukdnt dislodge them. It's fairly shallow and very light but a good size for 3 or so children to play around.Update August Sept 2017This has been a popular toy without leaks and my 16 month old can even fit his feet in and splash in it!

This is a new and updated version of the Aquaplay LockBox, though from memory the only real improvement that I can see is the inclusion of a small hippo character to play with! That said, we never regretted buying the older version, and as such this is a fantastic playset for younger children in the garden in the summer, or indoors if you're feeling adventurous.Water-play is always a favourite for children, and this set offers the kind of learning experience that you'd normally get at a big family science centre or public attraction. Water travels through lock gates and quays from section to section, so that you can move your boat around the canals and pump water in and out to raise or lower levels,or open and close gates to experiment with how this causes water to flow. It's simple stuff but incredibly effective. As such, outside of the family home this is the sort of playset I'd recommend all nurseries or pre-schools to own. It won't have a lot of longevity for older children, but even adults will want to give it a try, if not spend hours playing with boats!

After reading all the reviews I was fighting with myself wether to buy or not. I decided (also a bit forced by my kids ;-)) to give it a try. Assembling it wasn't that bad at all, the plastic is quite sturdy. One star less because you cannot really use it as a transport box with the built in handle - there are two holes at the bottom making you lose all the parts on your way. We simply transport it the other way round as there is a possibility to grab it easily. It is pretty leightweighted. It's losing a very small amount of water but the kids spill the water everywhere, so that's not a massive factor. The little boat, car and figure it comes with are nicely made and can also be taken into the bathtub easily. So, in our case, it has been worth the purchase, the kids spend hours with it and we are already thinking of purchasing one of the larger aquaplays as they can easily be combined.

A good value water toy for the current price of £24.99 (not so much the RRP of £39.99 though)With two main parts that attach together with sealing clips this toy is designed to fold up and pack away when not in use but if you have the room it's actually easier to leave up because it's fiddly, but also because it's popular. Ideal for outdoor/garden play as well as indoor (especially if the odd water splash indoors bother you).An improvement would be to add at least one more animal character so that two children can play alongside or with each other without arguing over who has it. As others have mentioned, the pump proved popular and there's lots to do from working the lock, the crane, the water wheel and the ramp. Perfect for the 5's and under but I suspect that there'll be a few above that age that will want to play too ;-)

A wonderful toy for my boys. They've enjoyed playing with this immensely since receiving it. It's easy enough to put together without instructions, though there is a colour sheet with a visual account of all parts that show where things go, should you need it (you won't). It folds up nicely and can be stored easily. When laid out ready for play, clips that hold the two sides together, also keep it water tight, simply removing these allow the case to be re-folded and drained. The yellow ramp that allows the car up doesn't hold itself in place so you (or your child) will need to hold this in place when playing with this particular aspect of the toy. It's great for the sunny weather we're having at the moment (Spring 2017)but probably wont be used much in the winter months.I recommend this toy for your young children.

My 2 and 4 year old absolutely love this, they've had great fun pushing the boat & car around, lifting the cases with the crane, pumping water into the lock etc. It's been brilliant in the hot weather to keep them a bit cooler splashing about without having to get the paddling pool out and get them changed etc! We've not had any of the problems of other reviewers with leakages, the sealant strips that come with it have worked well. It all packs up into the case to carry around, and the bits don't fall out if you leave the yellow swivel gates attached to block the gaps. We've also got the squirting fire boat from the same range which is a big hit.

Another excellent product from this superb German-Swedish company. High quality polymer and superb design. The whole thing comes in a rectangular box and contains a plastic 'suitcase' with plastic lock tabs that folds out like a suitcase does, thus making a superb cary case and immediate point of interest for a child. There are many options for configuration, all of which come in easy to assemble 'snap-fit' pieces. You can make bridges, slides, ramps, lifts, pumps, etc and of which allow small baots to sail through conduits. And of course, you need to fill it with water - so this is one for the patio, summer garden or a large garden.

We purchased this set as a birthday present for our 3 year old grandson, who was absolutely delighted with it. As the weather was bad, he and Grandad simply played with it indoors, without any water in it! Our grandson especially loved the crane; lifting the container on and off the boat. We're sure he will have hours of fun playing with it outside when the warmer weather returns. It's often hard to know what to buy for children and it gave us great pleasure too - watching him playing and knowing that we'd hit on the right toy! As this set has a carrying case, I think it's the sort of toy that could easily be taken on holiday too.

Although the lock box can be a bit fiddly after play, it does hold the water well and makes this a very interesting toy. It is fun getting all the pieces together and setting them out as there are so many permutations for this game. It has everything to offer: - interesting ways to get across, around and under passes, lots of different coloured pieces and water to play with.Found this to be a great toy for 6 and 7 year old. They particularly loved playing and 'pumping' water in and out of the lock gates. Spent hours alone and with friends enjoying the fun.Really holds their interest. Great game.

Once you actually get it assembled it's great fun, it's a bit tricky to put together initially. It's a decent size but doesn't need loads of water to fill so doesn't take ages. The digger toy was particularly popular, and there are a few other bits and bobs to play with - gates to open and close, and a water pump thing, but you can also add in your own plastic cups etc. It'll really come into its own on a hot day and we can use it outside; young children and indoor water play is not the best combination!

My 4yo son has a great time playing with this in the garden. I was inspired to extend it (bought some second hand kit on eBay to add to it) and this makes it a great canal system. We have to empty it every night or unfortunately bees tend to drown in it. (But the refilling with the hose is part of the fun). The joints are pretty stiff and hard work to connect if you have weak hands for some reason but they ease over time / use. No leaks yet (except when not assembled properly).

Bought this toy as a birthday present so to date only the grown ups have had a go! Came up with the idea after watching my grandson playing with a larger version which kept him entertained for a very long time. If your child likes playing with water then this is the toy for them. Parts are well made, durable and easy for a young child to manage by themself. Product packs away so it can be stored or taken with you on a trip away.I would recommend this toy.
