Note: The maker supplied a review sample for evaluation, the opinion of the product is my own personal viewFor review I looked at the 256GB versionFirst area to note with this drive is a new low price point for 3D Nand flash memory...this type of chip should longer term significantly increase the total terabyes written (TBW) compared to standard non stacked memory. The SU800 is priced just a bit above the entry level drives but also offers a slightly higher capacity (some entry ones are 120/240/480 all the models here are bigger with 128/256/512)Drive build is a combination of metal and plastic with the metal part on the underside which provides a secure mounting point if screwed into a case, and a top plastic cover. A 2mm space is supplied this has sticky pads on the underside to increase the width from the standard 7mm (some notebook bays are larger hence the adapter here). No other items included just a warranty information sheet so if you lack a 2.5” bay you will want to pick up an adapter to fit the drive to 3.5” ones (fairly cheap and plenty around)Installation is as simple as any normal HDD there are a few points to note though if you are cloning or installing the OS from scratch. Firstly ensure you have the motherboard BIOS set to AHCI for drives rather than IDE the older format. IDE will work but won’t support NCQ or the full speed potential of the drive. If you are cloning a standard HDD be aware the offset alignment will be different to get the best speed for smaller data sizes you might need to adjust it and there are some free tools around to do that. Free downloads are available via the makers site (QR codes on the box) for the toolbox to check/monitor the drive and some cloning software - you don't have to use this it's there if you might need it at some point.I cloned this and set it as the main OS drive on a Windows 10 computer and the results were excellent even faster than the previous SSD I was using. Results were as follows from the benchmark software:All in MB/sSequential Q32T1: Read: 553, Write: 4894K Q32T1: Read: 188, Write: 77Seq: Read: 507, Write: 4444K: Read 29, Write: 42Speed overall little to fault these can vary depending on the system and drivers, for mine it near enough hit some of the best read speeds I’ve seen on an SSD and close to the quoted specification. In short it’s blazing fast and if you are coming from a normal hard drive you’ll notice a huge reduction in boot times and rapid loading times for programs installed on the SSD.Aside from the performance which is impressive the biggest appeal I see is the 3D Nand. This is still an TLC type drive (it uses a big buffer to keep the speeds up for most users you will never see the buffer filled bar extreme benchmarking). This gives a high performance drive (real world) for a relatively low cost. Perhaps the most interesting area is the endurance which the maker lists as 100/200/400 TBW for the 3 capacities; if I compare the 256GB drive to say the 250GB EVO 750 this has double the quoted TBW at 200 v 100 and the same 3 year warranty. For me that’s a significant advantage for the SU800 (both drives are close in price) if that holds up in real world use.Any weaker points? Only one potential one if want an all metal case this one is part metal and plastic, no support for 256 bit encryption..but it does have real time temperature, the more advanced DevSLP for lower power consumption and LDPC (low density checking) for data integrity. This feels solid enough in build but I really think the appeal lies in the speed and endurance which is for the price as good as you’ll get. The higher priced drives extend the warranty period to 5 years, this isn’t aimed as top end SSD though it does have the 3D Nand and a rapid performance. There are lots of SSD’s around at this level, few offer that kind of long term TBW performance. I’ve fitted this to my main PC so I’ll report back if any other areas need a mention. So far an easy 9/10 for this SSD. Good stuff

The ADATA SU800 SSD conforms to the standard size for a 2.5" drive and so should work as a straight swap-out for any existing laptop or device - the actual drive is just 7mm thick but comes with a self-adhesive spacer if you need to fit a standard 9mm mount. It feels quite flimsy, encased in thin-ish plastic, but it's not something that would normally be exposed to any physical stress so it shouldn't be a problem. It's very lightweight too and if you're swapping it for a standard metal-encased hard drive you should really notice a difference - it's even lighter than a Crucial SSD I already owned so should be perfect for use in a portable device where every gram counts.I tried mine in an externaldrive case first and achieved good speeds of at least 240MB/s which makes for a very nippy external drive but hardly breaks any records. The type of external case I used may have handicapped the SSD quite a bit but to get the best speeds from any drive they usually need to be fitted to the internal bus. Fitted internally I was getting speeds closer to the quoted 500MB/s levels, although I don't think I ever quite reached that. The other advantage of SSD's is that they usually stay cooler than their mechanical counterparts and this one lives up to that too. I ran extended file transfers back and forth and it never became more than lukewarm, so hopefully your laptop fan may whirr a bit less often with one of these fitted. With the SU800 installed in my computer and a fresh install of Windows 10 onboard (which went quicker than any previous install I've ever attempted) the computer really flies now. A cold boot into Windows happens in about the same time as waking from Sleep Mode used to, it's that dramatic a change. Most app's launch quicker and if you're loading up media files, like music, they start to play near-instantly. It gives gaming a turbo boost too and levels load that much quicker and you spend less time staring at loading screens and more time in the action. My only concern would be the long-term life of the drive and I haven't had it long enough to judge that yet. I also haven't used it enough to judge the data integrity and reliability, but so far so good. Overall the speeds are excellent and the drive seems to offer a high specification at a competitive price so I'm optimistic. Admittedly I'm a bit old-school and I don't know if I'd entirely trust a non-brand SSD in a mission-critical device, but for fast fun with games and media it delivers a real boost.

I replaced a mechanical HDD in my laptop which is few years old. I already have upgraded my desktop PC with SSD 2 years ago and performance boost was incredible. Was expecting the same with my laptop and… ADATA did not disappoint. Not only everything is faster now but my laptop also goes a bit longer on the battery as the power consumption is lower. After 3 weeks of using it I am very pleased with it. While ADATA is not the most famous manufacturer I already have a USB flash drive from them which is few years old and is still going strong so their products definitely should not be overlooked.Back to the drive itself. It is priced in the lower end of SSD’s but actually is a bit faster on paper than immediate competition.I have used Crystal Disk Mark to check how it fares in real life and the results are on par with specs. Compared to my older Crucial MX100 SSD this one is a bit slower. Thats is ok as I paid a bit more for it. But compared to my 2TB HDD which I use for most of the storage it is lightning fast. What all that means in real life? Compared to mechanical HDD, PC will start faster, all apps start up faster too and run smoother. Copying files is a lot quicker. The whole system just runs smoother and is more responsive. In terms of backing up your data, ADATA provides a tool to clone your old drive onto the new one. You have to register on the website to download it but then it is quick and easy to use. I did put the SSD in a USB enclosure and connected it to my laptop. This tool cloned my old disk directly over USB so when I fitted it my PC just worked straight away and I did not lose anything nor did I had to reinstall any applications.Fitting is dead easy but will obviously depend on your laptop / desktop. It was easy in mine, got the bottom cover off, few screws and the disk tray was out. Two more securing screws and the old one was out. Put it all back together and job done.

Firstly for systems that matter ie work ones I only use Samsungs. I still have an original 840 PRO in one system..6 years later and countless TB's written it is still great.I got given an old laptop which I installed Linux on over Windows and decided just to keep it as a backup computer (good job it turned out, I type this on it now...). It was INCREDIBLY slow and this was all down to the HDD.I bought the Adata SSD for £30 and had someone install it for £10 as it involves taking the keyboard and monitor ribbon cable out etc...a slight tremor could easily tear it. I was a bit reluctant to use Adata SU800 SSD's because lots of bad feedback on them, but it's been just over 3 years and I use the laptop in bed at night and it is still performing very well! You have to manually TRIM it (get rid of junk / garbage data) in Linux for optimal performance... the last TRIM got rid of 85GB on a 128GB drive.. it's a simple sudo command but you just have to remember to do it. You could script it to automatically do it but I try to run as little scripts and software as possible on a Xubuntu build designed for old hardware. For £30 and Amazon warranty you can't go wrong.

Well packaged. Simple to install. This drive has been fitted to 2 laptops and seen 3 operating systems with no issues (I like to test my kit!).If you want cooler operating, faster boot times and much quicker read and write times for files, then this is the upgrade for you.I took out a 1TB HDD and replaced it with this 256GB SSD (seems to be a backward step, but there is method in my madness,I have only installed programs to the SSD and keep all my Data ( MUSIC/PHOTO'S/DOWNLOADS/VIDEO'S/DOCS etc) on the 1TB HDD that is now housed in a USB 3.0 external case. Two advantages to this, 1- a much faster laptop,2- all my personal files are safe if the main drive goes faulty).Technical note for SSD drives."TRIM" is available on this drive and is automatically detected by Windows from version 7 onward. How to check TRIM is enabled in your Windows 7/8/10 PC....Use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to open the Power User menu and select Command Prompt (Admin).Type the following command and press Enter: fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify.I recommend this drive.

I needed a new SSD for my C drive after realising my old 60gb Corsair Force just wasn't going to be big enough to last me comfortably over the next few years. I looked around and this drive was the cheapest one available from one of the bigger, more trusted names in storage. It arrived fairly quickly and was relatively simple to install, and works just as good as my old SSD, which I still use to store some of my more frequently used applications. The operating system migration software was a bit of hassle to find due to it being several years old by now; other free programs will do the same job though so don't worry if you can't find it ?

Great quality and performance. Have been using for about a week as a boot drive and have some applications on it. Breaths new life into PC’s, however the included cloning software (Acronis True Image) is not good. I tried 3 times to clone to the drive but it would get stuck after booting in black screen so instead I used a free version of Macrium Reflect which worked first time, took a bit longer to clone but it worked so worth it! Other than that the product is great, just the software is not. Don’t forget to register for the free 3 yr warranty!!

Bought this to replace what I thought was a failing hard drive on my 2012 i5 MacBook Pro which was taking forever to do anything to the point of me not using my laptop. It took about an hour to clone my original hard drive (bought a USB to SATA cable at the same time); and it was a very easy and quick (10 mins max) to swap the drives. Honestly, anyone with a small Phillips screwdriver could do this. The difference in speed is incredible, really snappy performance and very useable again.

20.1.2017

Bought to go in a second hand i5 laptop that came without a hdd. I have used Adata ssd's before and find them to be of excellent quality and very competitivly priced. As this drive saturates the laptops sata 2 connection it cannot operate at full speed but the laptop still feels very snappy and boots into Windows10 in less than 30 seconds. Overall I am really pleased with this ssd and would recommend people to buy it.

Have now constructed 2 computers using these as the drives for the operating system. They are very good value for money and give you a superfast startup. Add a mechanical drive for your data and you get speed and capacity. If you haven't tried a SSD yet then this is a good value for money way to start. The size of many laptop drives so try replacing an old mechanical drive and see the difference.

Superb piece of kit - used this to convert a customers slow and old HDD to new and quick SSD on a macbook pro. Here are the results: HDD - power on to login 1min 29s. SSD - power on to login 13.55sThe speed difference, always puts a smile on my face :)A little more expensive than some other SSD'd (not the most expensive) yet it is worth every penny!Dont bother with anything less.

I've fitted a number of these SSD's and find them reliable and fast. Always a boost to computer/laptop performance compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. The 256Gb version and higher have the better write 560/520mbps speeds compared to the lower Gb ADATA SSD's which drop down to 560/300mbps. And you can notice the difference.

29.8.2019

I just can't say anything. This ssd is very fast. When I used user benchmark, my SSD's score went to about 120% which is a very high score. Btw if you think this will boot slow then you are out of your mind. My main rig which has a nvme m.2 SSD has a boot-up time identical to this SSD which I have installed on my second pc for work.

21.6.2020

Bought to replace a slowing hard disk. Easy enough to install if you know what to do. There isn't that much installed on this PC so plenty of spare room. Windows, data and all the apps I have on this PC take up about 60gb. There has been a notable improvement in speed in terms of booting and loading apps (programmes) and data.

22.1.2017

Top speed ahoy used this on a lonovo ideapad 500 i7 12gb ram which was amazingly slow to load anything took up to 120 seconds to get to login screen now I can get into windows 10 under 17 seconds inc login amazing shame its o only 256gb so I purchased a HDD tray and put the original drive in that for storage
