We bought the Great Gizmos Brush Robot as a birthday present for our son's eighth birthday. We enjoyed making it; my son was helped by his sister, aged eleven and we think that most children aged nine and younger would need a similar secondary school helper or an adult to help them make it because it is challenging, particularly the final connection of the motor. You need to make sure you have the required two AAA batteries. The system works via vibration and it is interesting to explore how it works on different surfaces. What impressed me was that it was not just the build and scientific aspects of the set that gave play value but the characterisation of the toy also encouraged my son to build a house for `Timmy'and engage in imaginative play. All in all, this represents good value for money. My son says that the coolest thing about it is the sound of the motor `because it sounds lively and in letters it would be zzzzzzzz' but there `are plenty of other good things. When you try to turn the switch on for the first time is the most exciting because you don't know if it will work and the first time for us we failed but we kept on trying and finally we reached our goal. Get the brush robot because it's fun!'

Our daughter asked for electronic toys for her 7th birthday, and I saw this as an opportunity for her to build her own simple robot. The BrushBot (as we call it) was just what I was looking for. Its visually appealing, the instructions are clear, the parts were all there, and it didn't take long for us to build together, so she didn't lose interest in it before it was complete and ready to play with. My daughter was proud of the work she had done, and she could even share it with her younger sister; we found that if you pull the brush down so the toy tilts forward slightly one can push it in a fairly straight line, so they had a game of 'catch' as they pushed it towards each other across the floor. It functions on hard surfaces only, and its pretty noisy, but the vibrations do give it that sense of being alive, as if she'd built her own busy little pet. Quite charming!

My seven year old son thoroughly enjoyed building his brush robot. It can be a bit fiddly for a child of this age but he managed to build the whole thing completely on his own, following the instructions without any prompting from me! I would say though that a child younger than him or who doesn't have a natural aptitude for this kind of thing would maybe need some help. Robot worked perfectly first time which is a big bonus after your child has invested the time and effort. Haven't tried it on carpet but it works well on hard floors, tables and kitchen worktops! Compared to the price of basic lego and mecanno kits, I think this is a good price. Definitely pleased with my purchase and would recommend.:0)

I just gave this to my brother-in-law today. It was one of his gifts for his birthday. Mind you, he is 25 years old today and is a mechanical engineer and he really liked it when he opened it and begun work on it immediately, saying that it was such a unique gift. He didn't have the right screwdriver but attempted to put it together anyway and it didn't appear to work but then, with a little help from his brother who brought him the right tool, it worked well and made quite a lot of noise as it whizzed away sweeping dust as it moved. An 8 year old will definitely need help fixing it together but it could be a fun project to work on with him or her.

This is the first time I've ever tried to do anything like this (I'm a woman). I found it quite good fun, but a bit fiddly at times. I couldn't get this to stand just on the large brush with the batteries in, so I ended up turning the pink brush round so that it could balance on the front brush and the back little pink brush. It now goes round and round, like other people have stated.I wish there were more feminine looking things like this really, as some of these types of 'build a robot/gadget' look really 'blokey'.

Bought this for my five year old daughter. She checked off the components against the instructions and then proceeded to build it. She only needed help to screw the screws into the plastic as she didn't have the necessary strength. It worked first time and has the most delightful way of drifting around the floor in an inquisitive manner. The googly eyes give it a lot of character as well. Most effective on a hard floor.

Bought this for my 6-year old who is fanatical about electro-gadgets in their many facets. He put it together in no time and seemed to derive some fun from it though 2 days later, the poor robot was all but forgotten. So, though I'm giving it 4 stars for the fun aspect, this and a few other robots in similar class will not hold the attention of kids who are very familiar with how things work.

Good interactive toy, built with 2 nephews age 8 and 5. A bit fiddley in parts (small screws etc) but enough to get them involved too. Works exactly as it says on the box, much to the amusement and delight of the nephews. Won't be played with too much now that it's built, the construction was the main thing really but worth it for that alone.

Bought this for my husband and he loves it. My son also plays with it, it's a great mini robot once you get it working. There was a loose connection and at first it didn't work. Fortunately my husband managed to fix it. And now it's chasing around our kitchen floor and bumps into furniture. Great toy for small and slightly older boys.

Bought for my youngest son (6 years old). Was to fiddly for him to put togethr so i did it but he loves it so it was worth the money. i'm not sure he learnt anything from it though. Box it comes in was decieving as the robot is quite small and could fit in to a box half the size. The seller was great, would use them again.

Bought as a present for my son, he put it together with his granny, and I think he definately needed a bit of help to put it together (he is 8). He was very proud of himself once it was done, and thinks he is helping with the housework when he sets it going! All in all a fun item, even if it's not the best at cleaning..!

I bought this for my 7 year old nephew. He loved building it with me. He only needed a little help with tightening the screws. It is the building of this robot that made it. Had it been ready made the fun element just wouldn't been there. It's a crazy gizmo that's daft as a brush.

Good fun!!!! It was brought for an adult but our daughter loves it and switches it on and off easily. 'Bug' it's been named - the only fault is that it spins around in a circle and we thought it would move across the floor not just around inCircles but still lots of fun!

This is a fantastic little gizmo for those children who love to create. The product is tricky to put together with some aspects being a bit difficult. The brush is actually quite cute when its switched on as it scuttles along the floor, (if given a gentle push).

I am not used to this sort of stuff, but enjoyed helping my 11 year old build this. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, although I don't think he could have managed alone. It is really good when it's going too, but it doesn't help with the housework!
