Great end result but it did take a bit of work! I tried making this a week before I needed it. As the cake is encased as it cooks its quite hard to tell if its cooked or not so my first attempt wasn't quite there! There is a hole at one side to test with a skewer which came out clean but the middle wasn't cooked. My advice is to read the leaflet and take to the top of towards the end of cooking to test it in other areas. I did find the turrets ended up a bit dry whilst I tried to make sure the rest was cooked!I found it easier to cook the cake in two separate halfs then sandwich together with buttercream. This meant I got the full detail of the train on both sides,as when cooked as an enclosed tin it didn't work well at the top and looked uneven and didn't show full detail. Maybe I didn't put enough mixture in, but I filled it as the instructions advised. I'd also recommend a cake release spray for the surface of the tin. I tried a normal vegetable spray which didn't work and the cake stuck at the turret and broke. I used Dr Oetker cake release spray it worked wonders. All in all the cake looked fab, now I know the knack of making it I'm sure I'll be making for years to come! Hopefully these tips will save you time!

I'm not a particularly experienced baker but I thought this cake tin was very easy to use and the cake was a lot of fun to make. I recommend reading the instruction leaflet carefully before you begin. Before buying I noted that other reviewers had had issues with cake sticking to the tin after baking. The instruction leaflet recommends using shortening/lard for greasing however I used stork and made sure the inside of the tin was thoroughly covered with flour (as suggested in the instructions). I had no problems with removing the cake from the tin. It did take me 2 attempts to get a decent cake but that was mainly due to a poor selection of cake recipe.I found a basic maderia recipe worked well and rose so well it pushed the lid off! I am now looking forward to making this train cake for my train mad 4 year old's birthday. I can't wait to see his little face.

Great design guys but beware following the instructions to the letter:A) we need measures in imperial or metric rather than americanB} filling the batter to the rim means that you get a ridge all the round the cake, spoiling the definitionC)Be careful when cooling the mould and storing it out of the tin; mine twisted a little so looked more like a train coming round the bend!!!Found the technicalities of icing to the instructions was too burdensome, required greater talent than I have and would cost a fortune at approx £2 for each tube of icingI used a little ingenuity and enthusiasm and saved the money for the boys'gift....I will not be entering mine into a competition but it did get me a most favoured Nana status.

Have tried just one side so far...but i cheated further by using a cake mix...the type that need no egg...a real cheat. However the mix was to thick and not a success but the cake did turn out of the tin with no problems...i did grease and flour as per others recommendations. An excellent purchase!

I wanted to make a hiro train, a character of Thomas and freinds . I got this mould and it made perfect cake . It came out perfectly I painted normal vegetable oil on mould and then put flour on it so that cake does not stick to mould . It came out without a single bit sticking . Brilliant !!

This cake tin is great :)I used a 12 oz cake mix for the tin.I also used flour and olive oil mixed together to brush inside the pan, then flour to coat the inside. It came out if the tin successfully first time. Would reccomend :)

So long as this tin is well greased it makes very good train cakes that are easy to remove. I prefer to bake a cake in either side then level off the back and join together than bake the cake in the mould as a whole.

Great tin, although I chickened out of making it all in one. Instead I cooked the cakes in two halves then stuck them together. Make sure to use some kind of cake release so as not to lose the detail.

This tim worked well the cake came out with the detail embossed and no sticking. I did wonder if the cooking time suggested was a bit long as my cake was a bit dry (might have been my fault though!)

As long as you follow the instructions on the packet you will get a great result. Make sure you do a dry run before the special occasion. We did and ended up doing well for our sons 2nd birthday

A great cake tin which arrived in PERFECT condition. Really easy to use, as long as you grease it well (I use the Dr Oetker cake release spray and it works a treat!!!)
