The aesthetic of the pen really is wonderful, it's understated but elegant, with great attention to detail on the engraving on the gold trim.I bought this on Prime Day at a much lower price point than retail, if I was to buy this at retail it would probably only be 3 stars due to the occasional skipping and general build quality at the higher price point. To elaborate on the skipping, it's usually an issue with the first stroke, but seems to happen more frequently in longer writing sessions, this could be down to poor writing technique on my behalf, but I've never had the issue with the other pens I've used. I rarely have problems with skipping whilst writing slowly too, which is worth noting.Build quality is excellent compared to others at the price point I purchased at (Sub £30), but when compared to others at the £70-£100 point, it might feel a little cheap, most of it is hard to objectively discuss due to the subjective nature of something 'feeling' good, but an example would be the tension of the nib to body connection being lost over time, meaning after a day or two you have to 're-screw' the head of the pen to make sure it feels firm during use.I think this would make a great gift, or a day to day pen for someone who doesn't need to write large amounts in their work, I'd happily recommend to friends who are looking for something sub £50 that looks like it's worth far more.

I ordered this pen to replace a Cross fountain pen which was annoying me (it was scratchy, and if I didn't use it for a couple of days the ink dried up in the feed and it had to be washed to get it flowing again). I had only tried one Waterman pen before, and not liked it much as it was a very wide barrel and made my hand tired, but having seen a couple of clips on YouTube and read some reviews on pen sites, I thought I'd give this one a go.I'm so glad I did! It writes really smoothly, which is a bonus as being left-handed I find that pushing pens across the page often means they scratch or snag on the paper. I chose a fine nib as my writing is quite small and I hate the "filling in" of the letters, and this also can mean a pen is scratchier. Full marks for smoothness, then.I have also just had a quick scribble after not using the pen for almost a week. The ink still flows. Marvellous! So, it works. Beautifully. And it looks beautiful too. The barrel is slim enough to hold comfortably, especially for a woman, and it is well balanced in the hand. The matt black with gold trim is very smart and doesn't show finger marks like the shiny ones do.All in all, a superb pen, and fast delivery too. All the way from France in a week. Can't complain at that!

The beginning of this review was when I first boughtthe penAmazing pen!Incredibly smooth to write with and very slick looking. Takes normal universal ink cartridges. The box may be the best thing about it it may be the nicest boxes I have ever seen a product in it is incredibly soft. All round a stunning pen and would recommend for anyone. So it has been four years close to 5 since I received the pen and it’s still working like a dream. And it has not had a easy ride. I bought it at the start of my GCSE course and it was the only pen I used for the whole thing including all my exams.I am now in the final few weeks of my A-levels and it continues to be the only pen I use.It has been a powerhouse and I recommend it to anyone. The only l issue I have had is the gold is coming off but this has only become noticeable in the last 3 weeks so it has lasted a solid 4 years of intense writing. My handwriting also has improved considerably which I put down to the pen.

I bought this pen from an Amazon seller some years ago before Amazon were actually selling it themselves. My pen came as part of a gift pack which included the converter and a bottle of Florida Blue Waterman ink.I must say I have been very happy with it. I didn't use the also included cartridge at all but fitted the converter right away. The pen has never skipped or failed to write at any point, and even if I am working on carbon copies it will work legibly through all three layers without having to apply much pressure to the nib. The Waterman inks are rather wetter than some so may be rather heavy on some types of paper, making it possible to write on one side only because the ink marks will be visible on the other. The fountain pen itself, however, is a beautiful, smooth writer, very comfortable to handle when one has smaller hands, and has given me a great deal of pleasure since its purchase.

Nice weight, look and feel to the pen and the box it comes in.Appears to be a quality pen and does not feel like a cheap writing instrument. However, it does not write as well as I would like it to. I have become frustrated on many occasions when the ink stops flowing mid-word for no apparent reason. It doesn't write as well as the cheaper Parker Frontier fountain pen I have. It's good when it's working...Update: having gone through a cartridge and a half and having changed the Waterman cartridge, I can say that the pen is writing much better now. This cartridge flows well and I am much more pleased with the pen. I have therefore updated my previous rating of 3 stars to 5.I feel like I will never write with anything other than a fountain pen again!Summary:Smooth nibFree flowingNice weight (solid but not heavy)Good looks (in a simple and sophisticated way - not too ostentatious and loud)

This pen is very nice. It is smooth, comfortable, reliable. It looks nice. It is just the right thickness for me as I like thin pens. The fine nib is I'd say a F/EF, closer to a Japanese fine nib than a European fine, and writes very smoothly. It is what people refer to as a 'wet writer' but not so much so as to dump ink at every stroke, still it's a bit too wet for photocopy paper and will bleed and feather with most inks. The barrel and cap are nicely painted metal in a neat matte black, but the section is molded plastic - complete with mold lines. It is slick looks tacky and feels cheap. In ever other regard this pen tops comparable Parker, Lamy, and Fabre-castel pens I own,but the section just lets it down. It is disappointing, however the pen still performs well for short term writing and is enjoyable to use.For long letters, or essay writing the slick section may cause slipping.

I have a number of fountain pens in this price range and when I opened the box I loved this immediately. It is well balanced and a good weight. It feels well crafted and I prefer Waterman nibs to the Parker IM pens or a Shaeffer at a slightly higher price. I used it for the first time beforeChristmas to write about 400 Christmas cards for work and I have to say I was frustrated by the constant refilling. That said, I have hardly refilled it since despite regular use so I just think that it needed some priming. If you do buy and get frustrated do bear wth it for a week or so of use. It is worth it. It is one of my favourite pens. My only caveat is that for a lot less you can buy a nice Chinese pen and while they are not as good, you can get them for a tenth of the price and they are better than many in this price range.

I was very disappointed with the first sample of this pen that I was sent, which would regularly miss the start of vertical strokes, and the nib wrote more as a 'fine' than a medium.Looking at the nib with a magnifier showed that it was quite badly distorted, and explained the results I was getting. I've added a couple of images to show the problem.I decided to chance a replacement, and fortunately the second sample was fine both from a writing viewpoint and when viewed with a magnifier. The pen is (for me) nicely weighted, about 15g without the cap, and comfortable to hold, about 9mm diameter in the middle of the grip. The ink flow is just about right on reasonable quality (eg bond) paper, and as expected is perhaps a little too generous on cheap photocopy paper, sometimes giving a bit of feathering.

I have wanted a Waterman Fountain Pen for a while now and this morning my "hemisphere" arrived from france within 3 Days. What amazing service THE PEN SELLER.I am absolutely over the moon with it to say the least. The stainless steel nib is so smooth and delivers the ink to the page with such ease that I could have carried on writing all day!!!Not only is this pen stunning to look at, it is also a nice size and weight and I would recommend anyone wishing to start or return to using the traditional fountain pen to end your search here. You will not find a better pen at this price anywhere.I own quite a few Parkers but am already looking to buy another Waterman to add to my growing collection.I now know why the are called the Rolls Royce of Pens.5/5. Would give more if possible.

This pen just makes you want to write forever. The look and feel of this pen is great and people comment when I write with it as the pen looks so good and also people can't believe I write with a fountain pens. One thing I would suggest when you purchase this pen, buy some actual waterman ink cartridges. The reason I say this, is I believe the ink cartridge provided with this pen may have been old and stale or it is not an original waterman ink cartridge as when I was writing with it, it left gaps in the writing where the ink was not flowing.I purchased waterman cartridges and I can't believe how different the pen writes, it makes you wanna write forever as the ink flows through the hemisphere cleanly, with no problem or gaps and it just glides across the paper.

Very very impressed. I had desired a Waterman pen for years, but they were always too expensive. Then while browsing for a quality leather bound journal i cam across this. Excellent value i thought, so i went ahead and ordered.A couple of days later this little beauty arrived, popped in the blue ink cartridge (blue not black as mentioned in the description) and tested it out on some scrap paper. It writes beautifully, is a pleasure to hold. And indeed to write with.Recommended. A quality pen that writes beautifully and looks expensive.Just bear in mind, this may come with a blue cartridge, and if like me you like to lay black on the page then order some black cartridges (you will need themanyway)

This pen is an absolute joy to write with!! Even my untidy scrawl looks better when I use this, and it is a tactile delight, so that the chore of letter-writing becomes an almost sensual pleasure. I've long been a fan of Waterman pens - one of the few remaining bastions of good craftsmanship, imo - and the Hemisphere range is an affordable one, although it certainly doesn't stint on the iconic Waterman quality. This is a slim, lightweight pen to hold and the nib glides smoothly over almost any writing paper - even a heavier, slightly textured paper. I love it, but whilst I find it the perfect writing instrument, it might be just a tad too delicate for male taste! :-)

First fountain pen I've ever bought so not much basis for comparison here, but seeing as I picked this thing up for £20 on Black Friday, let me say - well worth the investment. It's a beautiful pen, writes well (with some intermittent skipping I might add), but I'm hoping that the nib is malleable enough to shape to my writing style and solve these niggly bits.Replacing the ink cartridge is a breeze and, seeing as a 10 pack of bics is easily a tenner, it's well worth the extra cash - more pleasing writing experience, easy on the wallet and my friends are jealous! Ticks all the boxes.

I haven't used a fountain pen in a great many years but recently decided to treat myself. I didn't want to spend a fortune but saw little point in buying a cheap pen which would undoubtedly prove a disappointment. So, I chose this mid price Waterman and I am delighted with it. I had forgotten how almost sensual an experience it is to write with a finely crafted pen. The Waterman writes smoothly and is comfortable to hold. It looks like it is worth twice the price and is now my default choice of writing instrument.I would recommend this pen to anyone thinking of buying a fountain pen.

The joy of writing is lost .................. to most people these days. This fountain pen is a beautiful writer, lovely to hold, very well balanced, very attractive pen. I enjoy writing with this pen, I cannot help but feel happy when I write with it, not at all like an average biro which feels awful. More people should write with ink in a fountain pen, especially the young, It teaches you a lot about words and the enjoyment of words and writing, this pen is an extension of you when you write with it, no modern device, such as tablet, or pc can give you that.
