I suppose I`ll be honest straightaway: I wanted to be a dictater!Yes, the thought of ruling the people and telling them how I want it to be appealed to me. Do things my way or, no not the highway, just get beaten up and jailed instead!Anyway, the game let`s you rule a tropical island and set all your own agendas. You start from scratch with a few people and as a benevolent dictater who knows what`s best for everyone, I start setting down homes and buildings for everyone, then building up farms and basic factories, roads so people can get there. Pubs, Police Hqs, schools (that tell things my way). After that you can progress onto holiday stuff for visitors. Sandbox mode is the most fun really, and perhaps the most realistic mode, but you do have a Campaign mode with missions which are least fun and most annoying cos someone`s always telling you what to do! But it aint too bad.You get some interesting side problems that will pop up as well. The game is also interesting on that approaches some slightly touchy subjects. Want to set fascist agendas- sure, or prefer to be more Communist minded? Go ahead. Interestingly go too far one way or another and you`ll get the Super powers snooping around your island, either the US or the USSR and they can end your game for you. You can also set certain policies like `same sex marriage` which will please some liberals and enrage the conservatives. You can even have a British type benefits system and `free bread` if you can afford it to help you gain popularity.Alternatively build an army barracks and undercover agents and rule through fear- Hehe! You can also be elected out of office. I had the choice of cheating the elections, but I somewhat arrogantly assumed the `people will naturally love me!` and was promptly voted out of office and had to flee! There are plenty of nice touches and I particularly enjoy my election speeches I have to make which have an affect on the vote depending who I appeal to. making your own avatar is great too although I would`ve liked more choices and a 1st person mode when walking about. The DJ who waffles and the music are great as well. In fact the music is brilliant! Graphics are very good with everyone, including a variety of peoples well animated. Also no interfering Steam to spoil my day- win\win.My only real gripe is once you get the hang of the game it gets too easy. I really wanted to be threatened by someone so I could use my `assasinate` option, but it never happened.Just ordered Tropico 4. Will review it later.

I have been wanting a new construction game for a while and with cities XL turning into a massive dissapointment i decided to check out tropico 3. Ive played through the demo's missions, they were pretty easy, the game ran well at 1600x1200 with medium AA on my less than stellar 8600mGT so for a brand new game i was impressed with its performance. As for the gameplay it hits a good balance between complexity and fun, not like simcity soecities which was designed with 5 year olds in mind, or the anno series which although good once you get the hang of it its rather complex. I guess the complexity of tropico depends on what you're going for,a tropical paradise where everyones happy and the economy is booming would be tougher to make than a farming/logging based police state where you simply gun down the protesters.Basically the game is split into missions with a set goal but theres also a sandbox mode where i guess you set your own goals. This is set during the cold war where both the USA and USSR can help or hinder you're progress, the USSR kept sending me cash which was nice, i read that if you tick off the commies they invade the island, i dont know if thats a game ending event but i imagine it could be heh. So not only do you have to keep the people on your island happy and stop them rebelling you can take part in the worldwide diplomatic arena, setting foreign policies etc.Overall the only thing that irritated me about the game was that the demo ends when you accomplish you're goals and the option to continue playing with your island is greyed out. Thats a good sign though i suppose, wanting to play more :) This wont be the case in the full version.

I was sceptical in buying the game, i had friends who told me that it was a real addiction and fun at that. However i wasnt too sure, until i played it.The game is visually stunning, the changes of weather, the individuals all acting independently and the beautiful attention to detail on building and the enviroment really bring this game to life.I studied economics when i bought the game, and it truely taught me the basics of how to rule a stable democracy, trade, diversity in sectors such as agriculture and mining as well as employment and much much more. Not only is it educational, but it is also fun, as edicts such as prohibition and secret police, death warrants on potential politcal enemies and the rise of a city from your complete imagination really do add to the fun factor of the game, which allows you to experiment.Though, it was, at first, difficult in the beginning as i struggled to understand how to survive those first few months of the game, after you get a hang of it, there will be no stopping you.And so you can enjoy endless hours of city building combined with education and that slight enjoyment of ruling a small nation.Great fun.

A fun game to pass the time. Not as complex as Sim City but more complex than previous encarnations of the Tropico series. The ability to customise your dictator which allows him (or her) to influence different people in different ways and have him stroll around boosting productivity and meeting the people is a novel concept but a nice quirk. One of the best features is that you can very easily track down your political rivals and arrest them (ungrateful peasants) or if they are really popular, shoot them. Best do this when others are not around to 'misunderstand' the incident. Better still, have the clergy follow them around denouncing them as a sinner or arrange an accident. In summary, this game is not too in depth but offers hours of enjoyable dictating from the comfort of your home. Upset the Americans and embrace the Soviots or vice versa. Uncle Joe Stalins food aid or the shiney American dollar?Upset the environmentalists with a nuclear bomb for quick cash or opt for a stable economy? Industry or farming? Its up to you. Best not ask the peasants, they might get ideas.

I have waited for a new version in the Tropico game family, and after i played the demo I have to say I am very satisfied. The graphics is of course much better, and there has been done some changes compared to previous games from what I can see.A major difference is that in this Tropico, cars are introduced to the island, and you don't have to wait for ages for the workers to get to their destinations (just be sure to build enough roads and garages where people live). The nature scene is better (I think), since the islands feels more like a tropical island, with more varieties in mountains, beaches and the form itself (in previous games the islands were mostly just a circle)I played the demo for hours, and I cannot wait to get the full version. If you liked the previous games, and city building/strategy in general, this is a game you want! :-)

While I have not played the previous installments of the game, which I imagine must have followed a similar pattern, I foud the game excellent - highly entertaining for the casual player looking for a bit of fun but still offering sufficient complexity for the micro-manager amongst aspiring dictators. The game offers three basic modes, the campaign mode with 15 prescribed scenarios that one goes through, the sandbox mode, where one can either play on a randomly generated or real map of a Carribean island and finally one can go for a custom generated challenge. In terms of gameplay these cover pretty much all the spectrum of needs a player is likely to throw at the game - from a strategic perspective, where one plays fast and relatively lassiez faire but derives quick kicks (think

Well, I used to love the old Tropico and had pre-ordered Tropico 3 being really eager to play it.I had read in some of the forums about things people noticed when the demo came out, and I'm a bit disappointed that nobody listened to them then. Specifically, I'm talking about:- The huge and ugly garage: What is this abomination? It has nothing "Tropican" about it, and is definitely out of climate in the game- The newspaper building: Well, suffice to say I didn't expect NY Times to have their headquarters on my little island in the Carribean.Anyway, disregarding these and some other minor problems, the game is fun and addictive. Enjoy!

I'm a big fan of city builders and have done quite a few. Tropico3 is as good as any I've played. It's a very difficult game to win because of the constraints of the scenarios, but it is challenging. Keeping money in the bank seems to be a constant worry in this game. The graphics are very well done, and the scenery is beautiful. The maps aren't overly large, but you won't really have much trouble building as much as you want in the space you have. Overall, it's a very nice game to play and very enjoyable. If you like city-builders, then you will definitly want to add this one to your library.

Tropico 3 is certainly a fantastic game that can occupy you for hours on end even for a single campaign mission. The depth of details that the system dwells in can be slightly overwhelming at first, especially with making sense of all the different kinds of happiness levels and how to go about improving each. Nonetheless, once you get the hang of it, the game provides endless hours of enjoyment. The downside however, things get overly tedious for some missions. Overall, definitely a game to at least try the demo!

This game is a lot of fun, I loved the original Tropico game, and have enjoyed playing this one just as much. You can please yourself in sandbox mode or try out the campaigns and challengesThe only reason it doesn't get 5 stars over all is because of some small niggles over the map generation - Some of the maps in the game and campaigns are beautiful, interesting shapes etc. The map generator only creates circular islands, the hills are strange looking. Other than this I really enjoyed it

I have played the demo of this and can say like others here great fun but yes it stutters on the graphics and you need a fairly beefy Spec to run it, also to anyone out there waiting for the Xbox 360 version My Daughter played the demo on the Xbox360 but the on screen text is very hard to read unlike the Pc version as you can chnage the Resolution to suit but the consul version does not have that adantage. I would say stick with the PC version. Magic game to while away a winters evening!

Rule a tropical island as the all-powerful "El Presidente".Does what it says on the tin - as a 'historical' figure or your own custom avatar, you get to be in charge. It's sometimes a bit awkward to find those pesky protestors so you can do something about (or to) them, and there are times when you need to 'fast-forward' when nothing interesting's happening, but it's an enjoyable game.I found it easy to get the hang of, and, for under a tennner, it's good value entertainment.

22.10.2009

Every regime turns old and stale. Every banana-republic runs out of national resources to sell-out for kickbacks. And every dictator can hide only so many populist aces up his sleeve. So in the end he calls for ...degenerate capitalist image-makers to reinvent his persona and make the beard hip again. It's the same old story.Power corrupts - and absolute power corrupts absolutely. True - but aren't you tempted? Not even a little? The original

Eagerly awaiting this one having played the superb demo. Looks fantastic on a half decent PC, though the intensive graphics will prove too much for laptops with integrated graphics. Easy 60fps @ 1,280 x 1024 on a Q6600, 4Gb RAM, 1Gb HD4870.Whilst you're waiting, Tropico Gold is worth checking out.

25.1.2010

The game is pretty much on the same lines as Tropico 1. However the graphics are improved, although one needs a top-performing system to really enjoy it.There are some new scenarios and changes in the game (control of El Presidente himself).A really nice comeback and recommended to all fans
