Although there have been well publicised bugs in this game, which several patches do a decent job of repairing, this is a superb entry into the Spellforce universe. The style has changed, especially base building (which looks tricky initially but becomes easy to get used to after a while), and also the collecting of blueprints to gain improvements in buildings and soldiers.However, this is an epic tale with a great storyline and some very good characters. If you're running the game on maximum specs like me, you're in for a serious treat. The detail is incredible. The maps are gorgeous without exception, and there is a decent balance between base building and more subtle approaches.

If you are considering Spellforce, then you probably know that it is a mix of RPG and RTS. Some sections of the game find you crawling dungeons with your party, slaying enemies and collecting loot, leveling up and learning skills. Others put you in the commander position where you build a base, gather resources, build armies, and wage war.If found the game enjoyable and would definitely recommend it to fans of these genres. Keep in mind the RPG sections are not Diablo fluid. The game is not very smooth with large maps and lots of terrain/buildings that sometimes get in the way of the camera.

This game is so so much more than I thought it would be. A few bugs ironed out over the first week after release but that is expected with new games nowadays due to the variety of hardware and versions of software we run it on. This game is a mash up of RTS and RPG. Played for 64 hours and found it incredibly difficult to put the game down each time I had played it. A real niche genre. 10/10.
