The open and close mechanism is quick and smooth, powered by battery (4 x AA), with a master switch at the back in case you're going away and don't want to unnecessarily drain them. It's still quite a burden to have to buy and replace them though, and I can imagine that becoming a chore as time goes on.There's a separate rim piece which helps to secure bin bags inside the shell, over which the actual lid sits. Storage volume is good - we use 50L bags - and the lid closes securely enough to keep odours from escaping. The frame is sturdy and wipes clean nicely; the size and weight of the lid section does make that part a nuisance to clean as it catches dirt easily due to its height - most of itsitting below lid level.Getting the sensor to trigger can be slightly unpredictable: sometimes it takes two waves of your hand to get the lid to flip open, at other times it opens because a bird flew in front of the Sun (or at least, that's the explanation we came up with in our house). There are also Open/Close buttons, which also allow you the option of holding the lid in either state, which is useful during longer clean-up operations. The rose-gold finish is nice and adds a dash of colour without being incongruous or fussy, and although the lid opening speed is a bit snappy for my taste, everything works pretty much as it should. It's a nice item which makes the job of dealing with waste and recycling that bit more pleasant.

I was pleased to have the option to review this product, as although I am very happy with our current big name brand bin, I have been looking at trying to find smarter solutions to where we store our household recycling waste which has to be separated. So when we received this bin I went to use it for our cardboard recycling which gets collect every two weeks. It needs 4 aa batteries which are not supplied, but luckily we had some many in the house, so I quickly fitted them and set it up to work. There is a button on the back which turns it on and off, and there is a sensor at the front which means when you hover your hand over it it opens. I was a little sceptical at first, I mean, batteries for a bin, do we really need to be so lazy that we don't open bins any more - furthermore I had visions of my two children leaving all electrical devices alone to play 'bin fun' for 48 hours and wear out the bin. Well they didn't, and they use it sensibly and they quite like it. I have found it very handy indeed for popping all packing in very quickly and with ease- its not a novelty...its quite handy! We are looking at having our kitchen redesigned and if we can't get suitable recylabling storage I would consider having 3 of these matching bins side by side to make recycling tidy and easier.I did find the look of the rose gold lid and little plastic to start of with, but not to the extent that it bothered me.

A good bin, but not perfect. We have three (trash, recycling, green recycling). We bought them during a huge promotion... but the regular price is way to high for what it is. Basically three pound's worth of electronics added to a bin.We also have two at work and all five of them have been in operation for maybe a year now - so I think I'm in a good position to comment on the shortcomings of this particular design. Basically, I like these bins, but they do have some flaws:1) The lid does not fit very tightly on the bin. You would not think that this would be a big problem, however the underside of the lid has a big flat "shelf" around it which tends to be pressed upwards by the contents of the bag once it starts to get full.As many items will be partially crushed boxes or cartons yearning for their freedom there can easily be enough upwards force to pop off the lid (see No. 2)2) The lid flap is quite fragile. One of the bins has a lid flap that is now held together by duct tape as a result of No. 13) The battery compartment is prone to corrosion. In one of the units either moisture from the garbage or leakage from the batteries (I'm not sure which) has made the battery contacts unreliable .So... you can make your own decision. I have no first-hand experience of other similar bins - so I don't know whether they have similar drawbacks. Other manufacturers do make similar bins.

I purchased this item as I wanted a bin that wouldn't take up a lot of floor space. This is a very compact strong robust bin.It takes 4 D X 4 batteries. I have found it very easy to use ie fitting the bin bag etc.I have given this product 5 stars for the seller and the courier of the product. Plus an overall 5 stars for packaging and the product itself. Arrived within the time limit it said. It fits quite simply behind my back door and gives you enough room to use the backdoor etc. The sensor is very sensitive you just wave your hand over the sensor of the bin and it opens and closes automatically. Excellent for when you don't want cross contamination whilst cooking or baking etc.....It is a bin that would give you a lot of service for years to come!! This 58 litre capacity bin also comes with a 5 yr guarantee from the manufacturer. They also have a helplineWhich is 08449840055. NB this bin does not have batteries included. I purchased duracell D size batteries for my unit. This is a very high quality durable product.I only give credit where it's due!!You won't be disappointed if you purchase this product. It is made by MORPHY RICHARDS. So that just speaks for itself!! A BIG THANK YOU TO AMAZON MARKETPLACE WEBSITE for using a very reliable high standard seller and courier. Plus for selling yet a very high quality and standard product!!Keep it up AMAZON!!

Tower Square Sensor Bin With Infrared Technology is a very good looking bin which will bring any kitchen style and a certain richness. The bin is large and it held a large bin liner plus it has a bin liner holder which holds the liner securely. The Infrared technology is so handy especially if your hands are wet or dirty as it only takes a quick wave of your hand and the bin lid is activated therefore the lid opens wide, it holds the lid up for a few seconds to allow you to get your rubbish in easily. There are two small buttons in the front of the bin if you wanted to turn the Infrared off, this I have done as every time I walked past the bin to go to the sink or when cooking the bin lid opens and it can be rather annoying after the first 5 - 6 times. The button or switch to turn the Infrared off is placed at the back of the bin and easily found.I do like the rose gold finish which certainly adds to the richness to the look o the bin, this is easily cleaned using a cloth though I would recommend you dry it or buff the shine up regularly as the bin lid shows every fingerprint or smudge. The actual bin is packaged well when delivered.I love the look of this bin and the gold and black of the bin really add to both style and richness of the bin.If you like your kitchen looking rich and stylish this is the bin for you.Happy to recommend.

Was going to buy another banded bin (Brabantia) but found the prices too high, ultimately paying for the name. Ordered this one as it has an automatic contactless opening lid, appeared stylish and good value for money. Arrived well packaged, probably too well, however we're delighted with it. Have been using it for over a week now and find the contactless opening sensor lid is really practical and hygienic which is great for reducing risks of cross contamination and means no greasy finger marks. Its easy to install the batteries for the auto lid, easy to put in a bin liner which you can tuck the top under the bag rim so no unsightly bag poking out and easy to empty and keep clean. Its stylish and modern (as far as a bin can be) and serves its purpose above expectation. We have it in our recently refurbished kitchen and it looks the part. Would recommend using the 60L Brabantia (or similar) type bin bags with it as they are easier to remove and be sure to register your purchase with Tower to extend the guarantee to 3 years. Would highly recommend!

Ok so it looks great... day 1 amazing!! Best bin in the world!! This was sadly short lived. Turns out it’s not very practical.... the lid isn’t open long enough to scrape a plate off so it closes onto your dirty plate, then you’ve got to wait for the sensor to reopen it... now with 4 sometimes 5 plates to scrape off plus pots etc you can imagine this gets a little frustrating. sometimes it’s fast to open sometimes not so fast it also within a day or so id say it started opening just half as wide as it should even with brand new batteries.... by day 5 It was far more frustrating to have the automatic lid than to not. so now it’s turned off and I open it myself by the corner of the lid. Quite easily. It’s quite a flimsy bin too it’s already got a big dent in the front and I have no idea how it’s happens just a few weeks old... changing the bag also seems like more hassle than with my previous bins. So if you have the patience of a saint and handle it with care perfect but for a family I’d say probably not.

Couldn't make our minds up on what bin to purchase but this cam up slightly bigger than the rest. The steel bin looks nice and the lid as mentioned on other reviews is very shinny. The first impressions when unpacking was that the bin was out of shape at the back on the join. However this does ensure a good fit of the lid. The lid itself look flimsy as when you pick it up it slowly falls open if upside down and then closes when turned over. Fitting the batteries and operation is really easy and at just a wave of the hand the lid opens, I think its 6 seconds before it closes, which sounds not a lot, nut in practise is more than enough. If you think you need longer, you can push the open button and then the close button when finished. Can't comment on durability or battery life yet, but we look to turn off of a night to conserve and prolong battery life. A good neat looking bin which I would recommend.

I love this bin.it looks great & is very stylish. The fact that you don't have to touch it to open & close it is obviously very hygienic. I was abit concerned about the lid censor & motor breaking prematurely after reading some of the other feedback & comments. I expect that in a household with children it wouldn't last 5 minutes as its not a toy & to be fair the lid does flip up fairly fast.Theres a technique to mastering the lid opening censor & I recommend spending a little time practicing using it so that the lid dosnt hit your hand & stop it opening fully thereby straining the censor & little battery powered motor but once you've got it sussed I cant see why it wont last for ages.As I say its not a toy & nice as this bin is, it isn't cheap so if your looking for a bin that's going to last & you have young children id buy something a little more robust.

After reading the reviews for this I was a bit skeptical. But I ordered it anyway as I really wanted a rose gold bin to match with items in my kitchen. I have had it a month now and have no major issues with it. The sensor works perfectly although a little sensitive at times. The only fault I have with this bin is that, if the bin bag splits and leaks, the leakage comes out from the bottom of the bin so I've had to mop the floor a couple of times. £55 is a lot to spend on a bin in my opinion so you'd think it would be a bit more secure. But overall I'm happy with it. Think I just need to buy some better quality bin liners!

great idea an electronic sensor lid just awave your hand over the lid and it raises , yes you could use a foot pedal typewhich would be cheaper , but whats the fun in that , its just a neat design , and a great capacity , the lid opening is also almost 90 degrees which gives plenty of access to dispose of your rubbish , the only down side it does use batteries , i started using rechargeable ones as its easier , you will notice as the battery life deteriorates the lid will not fully open ... also very nice design ...The Aston Martin of bins

I was not expecting much for a bin. Even one with infrared technology. But the build quality, and how it looks in the kitchen is amazing.I say to my wife 'It looks like one of your fancy lipsticks.'. The deep black, and the rose gold top ooze quality. The only thing is doesn't do is empty itself. And as the title says, you need 4 AA battries for it to work automatically. It is the ideal size for the waste sacks, and if you put the bin linner over and through the collor, then you don't even see the bag from the outside.

This is the 2nd of these bins we have had. The first lasted quite some time until the cog that lifts the lid broke. It opens when you wave your hand over it, but also if you walk too close to it which always surprises guests to the house. But you have to stop them pushing the lid down once it opens - that is probably what broke the previous one. I now know you can just replace the top - if they have them in stock, which is what we would do if this breaks again. It's a good size to hold a black bin-liner.

I live with three autistic people who will not touch a bin or rubbish so having been sick of moving everyone’s rubbish all the time I decided to invest in this bin. It’s great the batteries that came with it are still working after two months . It drew their attention the minute it came and they used it loads . The novelty has worn off but they will still use it . I only gave four stars as it’s difficult to get the bin bags out when full . Suction and vacuum so strong bin bags required or they rip

The charcoal Tower Square Sensor Bin feels well made and looks good in our kitchen.4 AA batteries (not included with the bin) need to be fitted in the underside of the lid to make the sensor function to work. If you place your hand near the edge of the bin lid it opens, and closes after around 5 seconds, so no need to touch the bin with dirty hands. There is also a manual over-ride if needed. I have had no problems with this bin from Tower, and it is a good size at 58 litres.
