A not quite so small pocket pen supplied with a generously large sprung pocket clip that can accommodate almost any thickness of fabric or fit over a thick cover of a journal, diary, notepad or a meetings minutes book. It is available in a limited range of colours including black and blue. As an alternative to using the clip, there is a small plastic loop opposite the clip that could accept a thin D-ring or nylon cord associated with a lanyard. Unlike other 'mini-pens', this is sufficiently chunky and of an appropriate length to grip and use effectively. The "Tombow BC-AP54 Airpress Ballpen - Orange" is a recent addition to a couple owned and used since they were first discovered 2-3 years ago, this being to closely match a yellow-covered notebook/journal. Used almost daily, none has yet needed a refill which are readily available via Amazon and other Tombow retailers. The refills are quite short but appear to be long-lasting. The front conical section can be unscrewed and an empty refill pulled free - it needs a little strength and a good grip but isn't difficult. The unique feature of this pen, in common with the more expensive and feature-original Fisher Space Pens, is that the refills are pressurised and that allows the pen to be used to write against a wall, or even upside-down, without fear that the ink will fail to feed almost immediately; it will continue to write in such positions continuously. One has been permanently kept on a desk and occasionally soaked with tea, coffee and soft drinks although not by personal clumsiness but that of others. The pen has continued to function perfectly throughout and can probably survive a lot more abuse other than being crushed! Thus far, every one purchased has been filled with black ink but it is believed that blue refills are also available. The same refills are compatible with a few other Tombow 'compact' ballpoints.

Those who criticise and rubbish this pen do not appreciate its almost unique abilities - it can write at any angle, including upside-down and on wet and greasy paper with equal ease. It isn't unique because the Fisher Space Pen was the first to do so but is more expensive; its refills cost about the same as one of these pens. You also have to pay extra for the pocket clip if you want one. This is complete when purchased, is also refillable but the refills are less pricey than Fisher's.The trick is that the refills are sealed at the end where they are normally open to the atmopsphere and there is pressurised gas within that pushes the ink to the point. They also have the advantage that they are capless and use the familiar push-button system. The pocket clip is an absolute joy to use, is sprung and opens wide enough to clip over most notepads, some journals etc.

I bought two of this in different colours: one for me and the other for one of my colleagues at work. We tend to walk around the floor making notes on a clipboard and sometimes writing at strange angles. So far, I’m very pleased whit its performance, it has not stopped working yet!The pen looks sturdy and professional, definitely more expensive looking than what I paid for it. It allows a good grip and it’s comfortable to use. I don’t know how long the ink will last, that will be the next test! So far I may have written the equivalent to 6 A4 sheets of paper and ink is flowing perfectly with no issues.

It writes smoothly, it has a nice fat barrel, it looks quirky and it feels well made.I wanted a well made, short pen - which this is. I wanted a good pocket clip - which this has.The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that it just feels a little strange to use. I have yet to find it comfortable. The lumps and bumps on the barrel are too intrusive and are completely unnecessary. Look, for example at the LAMY 2000 range; smooth tapered barrels are absolutely fine. Barrels don't need bumps, just a minimal texture to stop them slipping.

This is a brilliant pen for the price. Yes it does write on paper upside down. LolIt’s smooth and has taken some abuse as work in motor industry so does get battered a fair amount and has not had an issue.Small niggles for myself are the fine tip ink cartridge it comes with as I prefer medium but will get used to it. The actual outer layer of the pen is more rubbery so am not sure how long this is going to last itself. Only time will tell.Overall the pen is brilliant. You can’t beat it for the price.

I was getting fed up with pens that dry up every time I write 'upright' (I like filling in crossword puzzles sitting in bed) and couldn't afford one of those space jobs. I don't know if this works fully upside down, or how long it will last, but it does the job I want perfectly well and I never have to tip it back to vertical to make the ink run back into it. It's a little short to be perfectly balanced, but this is a pretty nippy little pen and I will definitely order more.

Compared to the £20 Fisher which has no clip - this pen is good value.Refills come in about £2.80 mark. The complaints against the longevity of the ink cartridge are bizzare. I'd rather have a pen that is short enough to store easily any day. Not forgetting the refill is pressurized as well, which must add to production costs. The only negative is the pen is a bit chunky, compared to a Niteize Inka Mobile, which is twice the cost of this Tombow.

I use this in combination with a Rolson Recoil Key Ring.https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00420G81E/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_26This way, the pen is on a retractable line, that I attach to my belt. The reason?I always have problems digging in my pockets for a pen, and have had a few pocket ink mishaps. Also, I wanted to have a pen that sends the clear message of "Yes I have a pen, and No you cannot borrow it!"

It’s really comfortable to use I wear gloves at work and often have to write in all weathers upside down and vertical never had a problem with this pen at all.Is a little bit on the small side but it’s forgiven as it lives in my trouser pocket by my knee love this little pen.Doesn’t feel robust but works a charm and the pocket clip works extremely well it’s not come out of place accidentally at all.

Only had it a few hours but it is a winner for me. It is small but not too small. It is chunkier than most pens but makes it comfy. The only down side is the size of the refill (it is tiny!) time will tell how long it lasts but it writes well and has a decent fine tip to it. Haven’t tried it in the situations it says it will work in (upside down, wet etc...) but even as a day to day pen it’s quality.

this little compact but tough pen is great. I'm a lefty and for some reason I tend to kill pens in a frequent basis ( In 6 months I went through about 20! ) THEN i found this star.... writes smoothly, is comfortable to hold, NO ink blots or smudging. Seems to just glide across the page. so confident am I in this I've brought two refill packs and never let it out of my sight.A must have.

I was already pleased with this pen as it's very nice to write with, works fine on thermal paper, and functions horizontally when writing on a vertical surface. But after I left the pen in my pocket and it went through the washer, tumble dryer AND STILL WORKS FINE — I think this betters anything else I can write here!

I love this pen - the only problem is that it ran out of ink far too quickly. The refill is very small - due to the airpress mechanism I suppose. Just be prepared and have spares ready. Wont run dry when you have to lean on a wall to write - perfect for me, and easy to spot when I leave it lying around.

Had my original for 3 years now and purchase these as gifts. Such a great lightweight, capable pen. Pens like Fisher Space Pen are nice but only do the same job and are easily lost (expensive to lose). Perfect for everyday use or as an ideal companion to waterproof field note pads.

The pen has a great feel and does exactly as advertised. I use it out in the Warehouse everyday taking notes and writing on the side of pallets and its never failed, even when I've dropped it.My only complaint is that it's a very fine nib hence a bit faint for my liking
