In March last year, I came to the conclusion that I no longer needed my Vita. It spent most of it's time sat in a case.I believed that I'd been caught up in the hype of it all, I had a fair few games but even the likes of Uncharted failed to keep me content, I just kept thinking that it wasn't like the PS3 games and it cost more than they did so what's that about. The LEGO games just seemed like cheap imitations of their big brothers and all of a sudden I felt like I was losing interest in handheld gaming. (before you decide this review isn't helpful based on that past comment, yes I realise I'm in the wrong and I don't normally use comparisons of handheld and home console to make a judgement,I was just not thinking straight at the time...like when I bought the collectors edition of Colonial Marines)A few months past and I starting reading about Tearaway. It didn't seem that special but then it's hard to come to that conclusion without any experience. After seeing a few game play video's I was becoming more curious. It was shaping up like an alternate follow-on of the LittleBig Planet games which for me is a winner as the PS3 games are excellent. Even so, I'd sold my Vita so there was little I could do about my curiosity.Xbox One day came and I was giving a mate a lift to GAME to pick up his console, Tearaway released the same day so while my mate took care of business, I had a go on a store Vita with the game playing...I played it for maybe 5 minutes, and I must say It's one of the best handheld games I've ever seen. After dropping off my mate, I'd originally planned a few games of FIFA with him but Tearaway was in my head. It's not often that a game gets into my head that way (hence the Middle-Of-The-Road Gamer tag) so I obviously needed more of this game.I went straight back to GAME (where I wouldn't normally go for games etc but I had vouchers I'd been holding for a while that I'd refused to spend because...well just because (Luigi's Mansion 2 on 3DS, £37.99 pre-owned, enough said)) and picked up a Vita Tearaway bundle, got home and played it straight through. This game is special. It's the first title worth getting a Vita for. The concept is simple, you play a character in a world made of paper. It's a plat-former with a few puzzles here and there, oh and so much more! You'll be using the touch screen, rear touch pad, you'll be tilting the Vita all over the place, in fact the game makes use of all the Vita's features. One of my favourite things about it is that on each level there will be times where you'll need to take pictures of things in order to return their colours, (play the game, it'll make sense) and once you have done so you can login on the Tearaway website and download and print everything you would need to make paper craft models of the in-game characters/items that you've snapped! So overall if you are still reading, and you are a Vita owner then you can guess that I strongly recommend Tearaway to you. If you aren't a Vita owner but have considered being one, then get one and this. It's mad that Sony threw it out on Xbox One day and it's probably been overlooked as a result (PS4 a week later wouldn't have helped either) but if at any point in the future you have a feasible opportunity to get a Vita for the right price, then it's worth it just for Tearaway. It looks beautiful, it sounds beautiful. You will not be disappointed.Thanks.

Let me preface this review by saying that I was REALLY looking forward to playing this game on my vita. I have a large vita game collection and love the system a lot. I say this because I don't want people to assume that I am low scoring this game because of some fanboy vendetta.Upon putting this game into my Vita (and updating beforehand) I was greeted on the first loading screen by an error message (C2-12828-1). I promptly went online and searched out for any possible solutions to this hiccup (cause I heard some really great things about this game) - this then lead me on a merry path of using the safe boot options - formatting my memory card (did not make backup beforehand doh!),restoring my vita to factory settings, rebuilding the database. I tried this numerous times to no effect. Tried with no wifi, no bluetooth, airplane mode... the whole kabboodle...Others online have had similar issues ([...] [...] etc.) I am not making this stuff up.I then thought maybe it was a duff cartridge so I ordered a replacement and waited patiently. This arrived yesterday and guess what... the same issue and the same error. I am now going to try a last ditch attempt to contact sony technical support... I will update this review when I get any further information. This is my first review and all I really wanted to pass on is that some vita owners may have this same issue... and may not be able to play this game. You wouldn't believe how disappointed I was when I found out I was one of them.Okay just got off from speaking to Sony - basically they have sent a report to head office about the error and suggested I return the game. Nightmare I cannot play it as other games work they do not think that it is an issue with my Vita - instead some Vita machines cannot play this game until a future update comes around. I have found that if you download the demo from the PSN store and the demo gets past the first loading screen... then you are good to go and can play this game. IF you get the error message DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! it will not work on your vita until they patch it.I hope this review helps others - check before you buy!UPDATE: Sony in the meantime contacted me again about the issue and volunteered to arrange for my Vita to be couriered to them to investigate the issue. After a few days they got back to me and stated that they could not find out why Tearaway was not working on my Vita and offered to replace (even though mine was out of warranty) and get it back to me. On arrival of my replacement machine I can now confirm that Tearaway is a fantastic game - if you have a Vita you should own this game (I have updated my review accordingly). Just be wary of the error I don't know why my machine did not work with this game BUT can confirm that Sony Customer support is second to none and they will help you out.

The Vita has come in for some criticism for its lack of games. Whether this is the case or not, Tearaway is the answer to these criticisms in the best way possible - a game that uses nearly every gimmick Sony threw at their portable and is actually better for it.For those not in the know, you play as a little envelope (Atoi or Iota, depending on the gender you choose for your paper postman) and it is your job to take this message you contain through a beautifully realised paper world to the You - you in the Vita's camera - in the sun, while backed with one of portable gaming's very best soundtracks. It's a basic 3D platformer with collectathon elements, but the charm and happiness the game exudes is awe-inspiring.Whether it's decorating a pig to ride through the fields or opening a present to find a pop-up paper bunny, everything in this game was made to give you just that little bit of warmth inside. At the same time, the platforming elements are challenging and interesting, utilising the Vita's rear and front touchpads, while never leaving you frustrated. The cameras are fully utilised too - you can choose patterns based on your real world surroundings for elk - while Iota/Atoi also has they're own personal camera used for taking photos in-game, which is put to good use in finding certain things to photograph to unlock real life papercraft models to download from the game's companion website ([...] to create yourself, a fantastic variation of in-game trophies and achievements.Tearaway is entertaining, interesting and just plain old fun. No game has put a smile so broad on my face for a long time and is certainly a worthy purchase. It may well be the Vita's killer app - any game that can use all the features the Vita has to offer and be this good afterwards deserves all the praise it can garner.

Tearaway is a sweet, innovative, creative, heartfelt adventure game that on the face of it seems like another platformer... that is until you play it. You play either a male or female envelope who is tasked with delivering an important message. Helping your character is you, though not just controlling him/her but you will be participating in the game too. Tearawy makes use of the dual cameras on the Vita to turn you into the sun, shining down on the surreal, colourful paper world and helping your character. Not only that you will use the Vita's camera to take pictures, the touch screen to draw, cut out and stick features on your and other characters. You'll use the tilt mechanics and the rear touch pad to navigate the world.Honestly I never expected an experience quite like this. The story, although wacky, draws you in as you feel like you're protecting your little character on his/her journey. Not only that but side quests let you get creative and draw new art for characters and the world. The more you explore the more involved you get.As a platformer its fun and challenging in parts (particularly the latter 'tilt' stages). However its something any gamer, whatever your level, can have fun with. There's plenty to unlock too once you've completed the game.I honestly don't think there's a part of the Vita Tearway didn't take advantage of, and once you play it through you'll realise just how versatile and packed with features the Vita truly is (other developers take note). Please, please, please buy this game. You won't regret it.

A fantastic game for the Vita. the game uses all the features of the Vita to really let you interact with the colourful world of Tearaway. The Platforming is run of the mill and the game is not hard by any stretch of the imagination, but what the game offers in spades is character. From the Gibberish speaking creatures to the design of the world itself, I smiled from start to finish. I can only really liken it to a Disney Pixar film - aimed at a younger audience but adored by adults as well. The creative aspect of the game can really suck you in too, be it designing your little envelope man with stickers or creations made using the craft paper and scissors tool - you really can make this world yours. The real world creations you can print out and build would probably make a fantastic rainy day activity for the kids too (as well as big kids - there may well be a paper squirrel or two dotted about the office!) The only down point that I found throughout my entire playthrough was the sound quality through bluetooth headphones is atrocious (same problem with Little Big Planet) , which is a shame as the music and sound effects are brilliant (Folk music layered with drum and bass!)and really, this is a minor niggle solved by plugging them into the vita. If you enjoy smiling and a having bit of fun, then I cannot think of a better game. Well done Media Molecule and well done Sony.

This is without a doubt one of the very best games I have played this year. Everything about it just took my breath away- the charm, the graphics, the gameplay gimmicks- all add up to make a gaming gem.The presentation is just amazing- absolutely everything in the world of this game is made out of paper- you really feel as if you've stumbled into a giant arts and crafts project. It doesn't just look great either, the sounds in this game are perfect; whether you're walking up a wall of glue, or paper is flapping in the wind, the sound effects really make you feel like you are experiencing it.Of course, none of this would matter if the game wasn't fun to play. Luckily this game does not fail here either.Every single one of the Vita's functions are utilised in this game, whether you are taking a photo of the real world to use in the game, to pressing your fingers on the rear touch screen which causes fingers to actually burst through the background, to the general platforming gameplay- all of this is pulled off flawlessly. There is so much to do and play around with in this game. On my first day of playing I struggled to put the game down I was having so much fun. I cannot do this game full justice in a review- it really needs to be experienced to be fully appreciated. If you own a PS Vita, then this game is a must have.

This is one of the most inventive and wonderful games I have played in years. It really is magical. People quite often remark in Amazon reviews that the reviewed product deserves 6 stars. In that case Tearaway deserves 46 and counting. The music, design and gameplay are an incredible delight that use all of the vita's gadgetry to great effect. You are the star of the show, literally, as you guide your adaptable tearaway character throughout jaw-droppingly gorgeous lands made of paper - which are all delightfully interactive.Adults and kids alike can enjoy this on so many levels. I also challenge you, when you meet the cutesy pigeon street style squirrel, who asks you to design his crown, not to draw and cut out an adult themed image and stick it to his forehead. I still haven't stopped laughing. This game is incredible, and that's not simply because it satisfies the most immature of impulses I've had in years, it's because it is pure genius beyond description. You will easily get lost in this game for some of the most spell-binding young-again hours you have spent in years!Tearaway almost redefines gaming and could be the start of a whole new era of fresh ideas. Something gaming sorely needs. It is also the first game to finally unlock the power and potential of the PS Vita.

I picked up this game earlier this year, having heard many great things about it. The Vita has many great features, and Tearaway certainly makes the best use of these features. You play as either Iota or Atoi (depending on character choice of either male or female). You are given a quest to bring a message to a mysterious being in the sky. That being is You (and by you, i mean yourself). This is a game that is filled with imagination, creativity and beauty. The game world itself looks like it's been made by hand, and it's meant to look like that. It's a papery adventure, which is very charming indeed. As i mentioned earlier, this game uses the many features of the Vita to make you feel involved in how the game plays out.A great feature is being able to use the rear touch-pad to make it look like your finger is coming into the game. You use the camera, the microphone and the front touch-screen to interact with the game. Controls are perfect, camera is great. The whole game has a friendly design to it and is suited to every type of gamer out there. If you don't own this, please get it. You will not regret it.

I picked up Tearaway because it was only £20, well reviewed and created by Media Molecule. That being said, I didn't particularly enjoy Little Big Planet yet still found Tearaway to be absolutely brilliant.Tearaway is so charming and intriguing it would be an absolute mistake not to pick it up for the low price they're charging and if you have a Vita. The art style is fairly unique to a game from what I know of and the mechanics use all of the Vitas features, sometimes it's a little gimmicky and sometimes it's genius - but most importantly, they keep the game interesting and it proves just how brilliant the pacing of the game is.I picked up Tearaway on the same day I got my Xbox One and I can say that although I'm really impressed with my Xbox and the new games, Tearaway was the first game I completed. The only reason I'm writing this is because the launch was completely overshadowed by new consoles, perhaps unfairly.. off the top of my head I think Tearaway received better reviews than all of the next gen launch titles. So if you enjoy it, spread the word.Pick up this game!

After seeing the demo for this game on the PSN store i was a bit curious to see what it was about. From the moment i started the game, i was amused and immersed into this papercraft world where i got to be the sun!The storyline follows a little message and the "You" embarking on a journey to deliver a message. Along the way you help various other papercraft citizens, all the while being guided by a tree with a mustache and some woman with a Jamaican accent. The game makes excellent use of all the Ps vitas features. For example, the back touchscreen can be used to bring your finger into the world to move obstacles and such. The front touchscreen lets you unravel paper paths and make fun creations on the crafting mat.You get to use a camera to take pictures of the world, and then take the papercraft nets out of the game and make them at home!Anyone who has a PS Vita should definately buy this game, as it showcases everything the PS Vita can do!

This is an absolutely beautiful platform game. It makes great use of the Vita's features. You'll use the camera, the touch screen and the rear touch panels, but these never feel as if they've been shoe-horned in, to the detriment of the gameplay in the way that so many early DS games had ill-advised touch-screen controls.Your face is the sun in this game, and you control a messenger delivering a letter. The graphics really are superb. Everything in the game looks, convincingly, as if it has been made out of paper. The sound is very good too. Controls are subtle, but responsive. It isn't the most difficult game or the longest. If you finish it and then want to go back and collect everything, there's probably about a dozen hours of gameplay here. This makes a great addition to any Vita collection. Once I've tired of the ports of Borderlands and Dynasty Warriors 8, I love doing a level or two on this fun game, even though I've finished it.

Got this game as part of a bundle for my PS Vita this Christmas. Amazing game, loved every minute of it. It was hard to imagine what this game would be like and whether I would enjoy it as I primarily play FPS or RPG. I've never delved into a cute themed game but I can admit that This is one of the best, story driven games I've ever played. Suitable for any ages, you'll soon find yourself lost in this world using all the special features the VITA has to offer including the camera, front and back touchscreens and voice control. Brilliant game, worth a buy for how cheap it is, All i can say is that I'm delighted with the 3-5 hours of gameplay it gave me, and theres replay ability for all you trophy fanatics out there.Would 100% recommend to anyone looking to utilize the features on a VITA and getting the system off to a great start.

I really had a dislike for Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet series it just didn't click with me and i felt the gameplay, it's characters and the world a little boring and flat especially Sackboy. So when i heard of Tearaway being announced i was skeptical it would be very similar to LittleBigPlanet but i decided to purchase it due to it's cheap price and reviews it has recieved and BOY was i pleased!!. Almost every negative i have LittleBigPlanet is addressed and fixed in Tearaway from the characters, charming world and gameplay. It also uses the Vita's features perfectly to make you feel like an actual character in the story also in my opinion it is the right length.overall i find this the bestVita game so far i give it a 9/10 and hopefully we get a sequel.

Tearaway is almost worth buying the very poorly supported Vita for by itself. It is a truly inspired and beautiful game and one of the rare titles I felt I had to finish. I've marked it down by one star as the main game is a bit short - finding everything will take quite a bit longer but most of this is just confetti (the game's currency). Also the final stage happens after you have already completed the quest and feels tacked on, it is quite difficult to do so why didn't they make this the final part of the quest? Don't let these minor quibbles put you off though as it really is lovely, trouble is afterward, what else is there to do on the Vita?

I've read a lot of reviews on this game and still decided I would download the demo first. After finishing the demo, I wasn't overly impressed and thought it was going to be another Little big planet. I really don't like LBP at all.But I still wanted a reason to blow the dust off my vita and took a chance.I'm so glad I did because it is definitely the best game on the system and I can't believe I didn't buy it sooner.Everyone else has explained what the game is like, so I won't bore you.But please just go out and buy this game and support innovation and originality, so we can keep getting better games and not just another COD game.....YAWN.
