This game works so well on the Vita, I picked it up for a bargain price and at this price there really is no reason why every Vita owner shouldn't have a copy. It has cutesy graphics, but the underlying game is seriously deep and requires a huge amount of dedication to really succeed at it.The basic game consists of progressing through challenges of varying rank, increasing in difficulty as you go. Most of these involve 9 holes on one of 6 course, both in and out 9s and also mirror versions where the course is flipped left-to-right. The courses are full of character and range from lush green mountain landscapes to links courses by the sea, with some outrageous designs with greens on islands and so on.There are characters you can pick to play as, each having different strengths and weaknesses, and more can be unlocked as you go along. You play rounds against 19 other AI players and if you win, you'll receive a star to unlock more challenges, and some points which can be spent in the shop. Characters can be ranked up, which unlocks extra abilities, such as special shots. The shop contains ball and club upgrades as well as character unlocks - and costumes for the characters (this is a Japanese game after all) which can be customised with different colours etc. If you fullfil certain criteria on each challenge (get a birdie on a particular hole, land within 3ft of the pin etc) you'll unlock a crown, and when you collect enough of these you will unlock VS challenges where to go head to head in a match play against one of the characters - beating them will mean you can buy them in the shop and play as them. Some of these challenges seem almost impossible at first but as you get better you start to realise they are achievable, albeit very difficult.Once you complete all of those, you can go to stroke play, where you can pick a course and character and just try to get the best score. There's also the online side, which to be honest I have not used much as I tend to play on the move, but there is a daily tournament you can participate in - this you play by yourself and your score is added to a leaderboard of other players.I've had a great time with this game and have played it obsessively for months, even going as far as achieving all the crowns - so you may wonder why I rated it 4 stars. The main problem is that it is, at times, incredibly difficult to the point of infuriation. The courses have been designed with an almost sadistic attention to detail - bunkers are ideally placed to pick up your slightly mis-timed drives and you will often find a downward lip designed to ensure your ball rolls in any time it is within a 200 sqft area. Controlling your shots uses the typical golf system of power and impact, timed on a moving bar (you can select from 5 different styles) - this can be very difficult to get right, and using the 1 Wood requires near-perfect timing to get anything other than a wildly inaccurate drive, meaning most of the time on the tricker courses, it is far better to switch to the 3 Wood every time. The courses and shot requirements are so punishingly difficult that one poor shot can have a cascade effect on a hole and ruin your entire round. There is water everywhere, out of bounds areas, obstacles and so on which are all out to cause your -5 lead to become a +3 in just one single hole (yes it happens).Putting is very difficult and can require a PhD in motion physics to sink putts on the harder courses - tees are placed on the crest of hills, so if you miss your ball rolls right off the other side (probably into a bunker, maybe water - or even off a cliff if you're really unlucky). Miss again and it rolls down the side you were just on....At times I wonder if the developers were just trying their hardest to annoy, chuckling to themselves as they put a bunker on one side and water on the other side of a 10 foot wide fairway, with a gradual slope. It really does make the game a grind at times and I have literally spent a whole week playing the same hole over and over again in order to unlock a crown. One challenge involes getting a birdie on the last hole of an 18 hole round - miss that last putt and your whole 30 min game is a waste of time. One annoyance that becomes evident when going for the crowns is that restarting a round takes far too long - you have to go back to the main screen, choose character, club, ball etc and then put up with the loading screen again. I guess the developers don't expect people to quit so easily but when you spoil your crown challenge with your very first shot there's no point continuing! The game has no mercy and will punish any mistakes very harshly at the higher ranks. The rather sparse game manual makes mention of special shots which can be achieved by putting spin on shots (holding the D-Pad while powering up a shot) and getting a perfect impact - if you also manage to hit the pin you get a special animation where the ball will putt automatically. These are talked about matter-of-factly as if they can be achieved every round when in actual fact they're so difficult, I've only ever managed to get one in many hours of play. This gives the impression that the game is aimed more at the experience Everybody's Golf player and not a casual gamer. So, I have to take a mark off for the sheer infuriating and throw-your-Vita-against-the-wall frustration that the game can bring, but it is still an amazingly great game - and at this price, an essential purchase.

This game is also known as Hot Shots Golf in the USA and Minna no Golf in Japan (often abbreviated MinGol on Western sites).E.G. at first glance appears to be a simplistic cartoon styled Golf game. The characters are heavily stylized and anime inspired, the courses are fictional and have wildlife on the fairways and major obstacles (buildings for example) in the direct path to the hole. It would be easy after a couple of minutes play to conclude this was not a deep Golfing game. However, spend a bit more time and you begin to see that underneath the cutesy exterior there is a much deeper gaming experience. The actual golf mechanics are simple enough using timed button presses to set shot power and hook/slice.There are then additional controls to induce spin in various directions and special shots which are limited in number, that can be used to gain an edge - it's in these extra abilities where the game becomes serious if you want to attain the best scores. You start as a novice golfer. In order to progress to Intermediate and higher levels, you complete golfing challenges which, in the Single Player element involve playing rounds of golf and gaining points through doing so. Points are awarded on a shot by shot and hole by hole basis. A good drive for example nets some points, ending up in the rough gets less or no points. The challenges start off easy - 9 holes against a weak set of computer players. As you get deeper into the game the challenges take on greater difficulty and new rules are introduced (+2 for landing in a bunker for example, or extremely strong winds).Progression unlocks new characters, courses, clubs, balls, clothing, music and other items - there is a significant collection game available in here if that's your thing. Some of the items are just cosmetic but others like balls, clubs and even the characters themselves change your game. Unlocking an item is only the first step though, you then need to buy the item using your accumulated in game points to actually use it on the course. This creates a nice tension about how you spend your points to best approach the future challenges (unlock a new character, or stick with what you have and get clubs and balls for example). The Single Player alone is probably 15 or 20 hours worth of gameplay to unlock all the courses characters and major options for clubs, balls and other game changing options. To get clothing and other cosmetic items will potentially take longer. All that is without looking at where the other 50% of the gameplay value lies - the multiplayer. Multiplayer tournaments in EG are fast paced affairs with 30 players per tournament playing asynchronously (that is to say, you don't see the other players while you are completing the hole, rather you all rendezvous at the end of the hole to chat). The main online mode offers a lobby system which is a mini game in its own right. You create and customise an avatar which is reminiscient of a bobble head and enter the online lobby where you can walk around and interact with the environment and other players. Tournaments are listed by their start time, so you register for an upcoming tournament and shoot the breeze with others in the lobby until the start. Tournaments have various restrictions just like the Single player.Don't be fooled by the cute nature of the lobby here either, the Multiplayer is cut-throat and you'll have to be extremely proficient at the game and efficient in getting birdies and eagles to win.The multiplayer also has a ranking system and the best players are able to enter the top rated tournaments thus creating a league feel to multiplayer. So the game is deep, there's a lot to get your teeth into and assuming you like Golf and multiplayer the game has almost endless replay value. There are some downsides though. The main problem are the graphics. The game looks nice enough but it is rendered at less than the resolution of teh Vita's display. This means the game appears somewhat "soft". Additionally there are some jagged edges present - mainly on things like shadows - that are jarring. Your character looks good though and is nicely animated, but the wildlife on the course is rather robotic. So graphics aren't great - for context, this is compared to other Vita titles. This game still looks and performs better than any on smart phone, tablet or other handheld gaming device.

If you've played an Everybody's Golf game (known as Hot Shots Golf in the US) you'll know what to expect from this new title. It's billed as an accessible golf game (hence the `Everybody' moniker) and it is that, most definitely. Choose your angle, press `X' and then press `X' again and your ball goes flying into the air. The first course or two are very straightforward so it's difficult to mess up. Soon, by slow degrees, you'll discover a vast amount of depth under the overly cute exterior.Everybody's Golf doesn't utilise many of the Vita's new control systems. In fact, you can play the entire game with the D-pad, shoulder buttons and face buttons. This is not surprising given the game's roots on PlayStation and on PSP.You can use the Vita `s rear touch pad to view distances to points on the screen which can be useful in planning your shot's approach. You can also use the Vita `s tilt sensors to look around, but this isn't very useful. The left analog stick can be used to point the camera (not useful to me) and the right stick is not used at all. Nevertheless, the Vita is a great platform for the game as it benefits from the power of the system in its graphics, looking a lot like the PS3 game. The singleplayer mode is made up of `Challenges' which are essentially nine- or eighteen-hole rounds in which you have to beat a field of twenty other players. You score points as you play by doing things like getting the ball on the fairway, or on the green in the right number of shots, but these points are secondary to the number of shots you've taken when it comes to tournament standings. The online mode is implemented really cleverly. There are three daily tournaments available for you to participate in. These are worldwide events that you only get one shot at, and your score is compared to all other scores worldwide. As you play, the game shows you your current rank compared to those who've already completed the round. This is the feature that will likely give the game that extra boost of longevity. You can also participate in real-time tournaments of up to 30 people, but these require you to wait for a specific time when the tournament starts - less than ideal for the pick-up-and-play style of handhelds.Everybody's Golf is probably not the game you want to use to showcase the Vita to others because it's strength is in its depth and volume of content while remaining accessible, not in its graphics or touch controls. In this it plays to the strengths of the handheld gaming machine concept in general - games that span the range from casual to the dedicated gamer. It doesn't do a lot that's new in the series other than the daily tournaments which are a great addition, so if you're a seasoned Everybody's Golf fan you might want to consider whether the online features are enough to entice you, but if you're new to the series then this Vita edition is great place to start.

So after having little to do with the console after Little King's Story I opted to look into some of the other console games. The usual suspects kept appearing. Little Big Planet, Uncharted, Persona 4. However every once in a while someone would bring up Everybody's Golf. I'd seen the games multiple times over the past years however with my experience of Golf starting and ending at Mario Golf Toadstool Tour back in 2005 or so. It wasn't one I was going to be bothering with normally. So I picked it up at the bargain price of £8.99 new and was pleasantly surprised. The game seems to have a lot of the charm of the Mario Golf games. There's a wide variety of characters (although only two are unlocked at the start.Better not object to playing as a Schoolgirl for a few hours) each with their own skills and a multitude of clubs and balls, each having a decider factor in how the matches play out.Single player is pretty straightforward. Compete in various courses and try and beat the others, however I personally found it rather challenging and fun to compete in these. Completeing courses will allow you to unlock further challenges and extra characters and clubs. For first-time players, or people not quite as familiar as golf I found it somewhat of a challenge to figure out what to do. While there is a training mode it's simply a way to practise the courses. A simple 'yes. I am a newbie to golf' mode at the start would have done wonders, show the player that they're likely missing due to the wind, explain to them how to hit the ball. Instead I felt like I was thrown in and for the majority of the first tournament was on my own. Surely this is what an instruction Manual was invented for (There is no Instruction Manual)I felt this was a nice addition to the rather sad looking PSVita lineup. It's probably the best golf game out there on a handheld (until Nintendo get us Mario Golf 3DS no doubt.) and for less than a tenner new you can rarely go much better

I am a massive fan of this series of game but this is the first one i have purchased for a handheld device. The graphics are very familiar to anyone that has played a game in the series and the style of play is very similar to.The level of detail is exceptionally good considering it is on a PS Vita. The amount of game time is substantial. The challenge (single player game) is where you compete in competitions gaining points to purchase new equipment and characters. Online is solid and fun to compete against others. The game play is identical to all the other console versions, the touch screen/back has mainly been saved to non gameplay elements such as rotating the player and touching animals, however you can adjust the camera using on-screen buttons. These functions can be performed using the standard buttons though. The golf mechanics behind the game are fantastic and as solid as ever and the sound is simple but there is only so many sound effects you can get in a golf gameAll in all, if you are a fan of the series and own a PS vita then this is a must have!!

The Vita is a marvelous mobile gaming device that has many outstanding games on it. However what about those times when you don't want anything too involved and just fancy a pick up n' play title. Enter 'Everybody's Golf'. Forget silly EA Tiger Woods games, if you actually want a fun golf sim that's so easy to pick up but features a nice learning curve for more advanced players... this is it.I was a little trepedatious at first as it seemed a bit too Anime-like and corny. However nothing can mask the sheer fun you have playing this title. Not only are there lots of modes (including online match ups) but there's plenty of unlockables to keep you going. The courses are certainly not made to look like St Andrews or any other well known course. Typically its the wackier the better. For a title that will mostly be overlooked by many who own a Vita it's the best (ok the only) golf sim on the mobile device. However I can't see anything beating it for sheer fun. EA can keep Tiger Woods, I'll be playing as some weird looking Japanese kid.

I'm comparing this game to the previous psp versions which I loved, and I'd say it's quite a big improvement, but same formula. This game is all about fun. Yes, the japanese cutesy style and graphics are not everyone's cuppa tea, but it does put a smile on my face, which is what it's all about really. (Although some of the voices do get annoying after a while).Graphics are very good, courses are varied, plenty of customisation options, and simple pick up and play gameplay that all ages can enjoy. The rear touchpad can be used for pinpoint aiming your shot on the course, which is a nice feature, but I think they could have incorporated more with the vita's touchscreen and other features...room for improvement I guess.I'm also not entirely sure this game is worth the full price if you're not already a fan of the series, as it's still very similar to the psp versions which can be bought much cheaper...I love it though!

There is only one negative for this game and I'll quickly get it out of the way. The game does not use the Full native resolution of the Vita which means the image, whilst good, is not as sharp as it could be. Right, that's it, the rest of the game is great. online is super with the daily tourney ( continues from Wed to the following Monday), the Lobby system carried forward from the PS3 version and when used with the Vita's Lobby Chat feature this really is a very social game. Id give it a 9/10 dropping that point for the non full Vita Resolution but that's about it, the rest is faultless.

10.1.2013

At first glance it seems silly and childish. But very soon you see that it is a great game and works especially well on the Vita. It's not easy though and the putting is particularly difficult so there is much to occupy your attention. The silliness soon gives way to endearment as you start to appreciate the characters in the game and bond with some and not with others.I found the graphics excellent and they give a spacial feel to the image that belies the little screen. All in all a very absorbing game and one that looks great on the Vita!

28.1.2013

This is only 1 of 4 titles I have bought for the PSVita since it's launch. It's a lot of fun with nice graphics. I own it on the original PSP too (actually a US version called 'Hot Shot Golf' I think). Can't say I have found it a massive leap over the PSP game apart from graphics obviously but definitely happy I bought it. Quite challenging too as you progress. Best sports game I've tried on the PSVita so far. Thumbs up- especially at this price.

17.3.2013

I have every version of Everybody's Golf / Hot Shots Golf .. on every platform they have arrived on and they are consistently super well made products...The Gameplay for a 'cartoon like' game has always been excellent and this is no different. Some use of the Vitas controls seems superfluous but that's a minor issue.Great game on a great system and a better game of golf than most if not all serious sims

20.9.2016

For anyone considering buying this game, then I say buy it. I don't have it for my Vita, but I have it on my PSP and I can tell you it is fantastic. The depth of this game is what stands out for me. Do not be put off by the cartoon-like characters, I find, in fact, that enhances the game even more. I will eventually purchase this for the Vita. In the meantime, I will continue to enjoy it on my PSP.

28.2.2012

gotta say, since having this game on launch day - i have picked it up everyday!! easy to have a quick 15 min match and then put down the vita if i have something else to do. lots of unlockables.HIGHLY ADDICTIVE!!bit cheeesy on the cuteness of it all but the gameplay over rides that in my opinion.all in all - buy it!!!!!!!!!!

10.3.2012

i have played this on my old ps1. its a cutesy addictive game. very well programmed. keeps me coming back time after time. a sort of arcade version of golf. not that complicated so easy to pick up for all ages.psvita version graphically amazing. well impressed with the overall package.a must for your PS Vita collection.

19.7.2012

This game is so easy to get to grips with, but has longevity with things like characters, loyalty, in-game purchases and power-ups etc. A completionist's dream and fun to play in marathon sessions or dribs and drabs. At the price amazon are now selling it at, you'd need to be a little bit crazy not to get this.
