This seems to be a good "pocket studio" - but limited for more general recording.I assumed that it would be usable as a general digital recorder, without reading the spec too critically. Yes, it records WAV (CD quality) files... but it does not allow any other format, so there is no way of extending recording time at lower quality. And what IS that time? Well, the manual tells you that battery life (alkaline) is about 8 hours recording. And card capacity? Well, they provide a 2Gb card, and that gives you a recording time of...what??? NO information!! Fine if you know how many Mb per hour per track, but for the rest of us...I rang up Tascam Technical Support - the answer, given with raised eyebrows at my ignorance,

Very clever piece of kit. Not yet tried out all of the facilities but they are plentiful. Took a little while before I fully understood how to make it work but from that point on it became quite intuitive. Delighted to not need to be linked to a computer to use it for most recording and mixing functions. Rechargeable batteries provide a satisfactory power supply ( power adaptor not included) with one less cable/restriction to worry about. Feels nice and solid and is a very attractive unit. Clear screen with useful display. Able to line record to individual tracks then mix down to stereo. I am glad I purchased this little recorder. Amazon as usual provided an excellent delivery service.

This is a good device but it is important to realise that this only records 2 tracks at a time. Also it is a tool for overdubbing and is less friendly to use than a Dictaphone style of recorder if you just want to record an event. It records its 6 tracks within a proprietary partition and you have to export it to a FAT partition to be able to access it with a PC. This means the SD cards are inefficiently used, it is a good job that SD is now low cost. The export process takes many minutes for longer tracks.

My old recording machine, sadly, gave up the ghost (I always expect everything to last forever) and I've been dragged, kicking and screaming into the IT age. But in this case I don't mind as this brilliant machine can do as much, and more, than its predecessor-and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. Geriatric pop charts here I come!

Brilliant for getting those ideas that come from nowhere down quickly and easily! The mic quality is brilliant for accoustic work. However I was so impressed with the dp006 quality that I sold it..but only so I could get the dp008ex. 006 is Perfect for a sketchpad but recommend the 008 for something a bit more in production.

I would recommend this digital recorder to any aspiring musician. Adding one track on top of another allows even me to start to sound good, then bringing a voice in adds to the fun. I am very pleased with the TASCAM DP 006.

I had a 4 track cassette machine in the old days. Never managed before to switch to digital, but this is the nearest to an analogue layout I have found. Brilliant design and layout. The manual is superbly written too.

I wanted to start wiritng and recording songs, but I only get in the mood for that when I am out camping in my van. This is perfect for capturing music and then I can easily import the tracks into Audacity.

Great wee tool to jot down ideas on the go and enough tracks to polish them up a bit before presenting them to the band. Great price, great quality easy to use even for a 63 year old Luddite like me.

Used it to record a rehearsal and was impressed with the results. The sound quality was amazing while just using the condenser mics. Tried it at home with the line inputs and it sounded even better.
