Superb piece of kit, loads of built in killer apps which are very good and give you masses of functionality out of the box.Better than the DS1815+ (which I also own).This is the iPhone of SOHO storage devices.I have been a customer of Synology for years and these give best value for money with tons of functionality beyond simply being a big disk.Be aware that the cost is not the NAS itself but the cost of the disks to put in it so factor that in.Also recommend a UPS because if your power goes down it will spend two days parity checking the disk set (you can still use it in that time).Never-the-less if you're not a fan of giving someone else your data (i.e. the cloud)

The replaced my unraid nas, which has blown two motherboards this year. With the loss of crashplan home, i need something quickly.The DS1817+ just works, is already doing more that it was purchased for.

Excellent piece of equipment for storage and networking. A replacement for the S1815+ which had a flaw in it’s processor which was hidden from public knowledge.

Superb unit - you get what you pay for with Synology - software is based on Linux.Software is very intuitive and stable. 8 Bay is good for future proofing.
