Although my preferred tipple is whisk(e)y I am rather fond of a drop of vodka from time to time and usually go for the Swedish Absolut brand. I have tried, and enjoyed, whisky from the House of Suntory which is similar in style to Scotch and spelt the same way, without an extra “e”, but this is the first time I have tried their vodka. This Haku Japanese Craft Vodka is distilled by Suntory using only Japanese white rice and is 40% alcohol-by-volume - it comes in a 70cl bottle with a Japanese style; Haku means "white" in Japanese. This craft rice vodka is slightly sweeter than the traditional cereal based ones resulting in a very pleasant drink which mixes well but could be enjoyed on it's own, unlike some others. Perhaps not quite as special as I had hoped but at around thirty pounds from Amazon it is good value for the quality at the current price and one spirit drinkers will want to taste for themselves. I'm not yet sure if this is a variety of vodka I will purchase again, as I usually drink vodka as a base or with a mixer, but it is well worth adding a bottle to your drinks cabinet as something a bit unusual for when your friends call by; it gets five stars for quality.

I wouldn’t claim to be any kind of connoisseur but Vodka would be my first choice when drinking spirits and so this Haku Japanese Craft Vodka from Suntory has been a minor revelation. I don’t think I’ve tasted a rice Vodka before and there’s certainly a difference and it’s a good one. This has a lightness and a clean sort-of unadulterated taste that sets it apart from most that I’ve tried. The real surprise is the sweet aftertaste which reminds me of the sweetness you get from Liquorice root, not a cloying sweetness but noticeable. Plus there’s a lovely Liquorice-like flavour here too…It’s so nice I could even drink it neat on the rocks, it’s still a potent 40% proof Vodka but it completely avoids the harshness of cheaper spirits. It’s a shame to drown out the subtle flavour in a cocktail but paired with a good quality mixer it’s really enjoyable. There’s a myth that all Vodkas taste the same but if you ever wanted proof that’s not true then try this one. It’s somehow got a classic vodka kick and yet it’s different from any others you’ve tried. Real discovery, give it a try.

Although I love god spirits, Vodka is not one of my go to tipples, but as an open minded taster I was interested to try this Japanese made marque. The two key observations I would make are that this is a rice based drink and it has been filtered. That much was very quickly apparent to my palette which is used to tasting Bourbon and Whiskey. The first thing you notice is this has just a hint of sweetness to it which you don't get from cereal based vodkas. The second virtue is the smoothness in the mouth which must be down to the charcoal filtration-it really goes down easily although you get the residual burn in the throat from the alcohol as you would expect. Given its clean and flavoursome qualities, this is one to sip from the freezer I would have thought and a double shot would make an excellent foundation for a cocktail or for mixing with a really good tonic. Smartly presented in an embossed bottle this is one that the seasoned vodka drinker will want to try and the uninitiated may well find a pleasant surprise.

This vodka is made by a Japanese company who the bottle says has been making this for about 150 years. The bottle is beautiful as it's clear with etched patterns which remind me of willow leaf shapes which cascade down the bottle. The black and white and clear design is elegant and sums up the clarity of this vodka well.I compared it with a leading supermarket brand and found the following:It is stronger than the standard 37.5 percent you get in supermarkets. It tastes stronger but is not bitter or sharp just a burning sensation in the throat rather than on the tongue. The taste is clean and bland, whereas the supermarket vodka had a twang to it remeniscent of terpenes of some description, hopefully not methanol but impurities nonetheless. This vodka is ideal for a sushi /Japanese themed gathering or just when you want a gluten free vodka as it says it's made from rice. Or when you want to do shots due to its strength and clean taste.

My vodka of choice is usually Grey Goose, Ciroc or Belvedere so I was curious how this would fare, being around the same price or a little cheaper than those. The bottle is nice (classy!) and on opening there's a hint of different aroma but nothing too pronounced, which is what I'd want from my vodka. This is made from rice, and filtered through bamboo charcoal: the taste is clean and not harsh even when served simply over ice. There is a softness, and in an odd way a taste that reminded me delicately of rice pudding! This goes well with a splash of quality cola, or as I said above just over ice. If I saw this in the supermarket, I'd buy it for sure.It stands up brilliantly against the big guns and offers a unique taste to boot.

I'm not a Vodka drinker, I actually detest the stuff. I've always called it "Russian Rocket Fuel", but I will admit that there are some high quality vodkas out there that are much smoother and taste a lot better than the average brands. This is one of them. You eat a pleasant/fresh smell upon opening the bottle. The drink has a subtle and clean flavour on the pallet and doesn't burn your throat like a corrosive on the way down. Which for me gives it top marks across the board.I've tried it neat and tried it as a part of a bloody mary, loved it on both occasions. It hasn't converted me to becoming a vodka drinker, but if there was a situation where vodka was on offer,I would want to be drinking this one.

What's not to like about the Japanese eye for detail. This craft vodka has had a lot of love and thought put into it, With a very clean and refined taste from the charcoal filtration process. Japanese quality does not fail to impress me when it comes to their craft, And custom food and drinks that are top-notch quality. The vodka itself tastes smooth, And almost like a big brother to a delicious sake. The vodka is crafted from rice and has a slight sweet note which makes it a delicious drink on its own without needing a mixer. I do find however it does mix well with juices, Lemonade and coke.

I probably should have video'd the night i chose to review this lovely drink..It definitely does the job, tastes wonderful and is very easy to drink. Judging from the next day's messages from friends and family it also works well.. What i did like though was barely a hangover!, it speaks to quality when you can drink vodka without getting a killer hangover the next day and this stuff is quality, although i didn't fancy any kind of drink for a good while after haha.Would very very recommend it!Comes in a attractive packaging . Arrived on time and well packaged.

Great stuffIt has subtle differences to its notes compared to more Western produced vodkas, and tends to be slightly less citrusy in taste. It’s an absolute must to serve this straight from the freezer (as is true of all vodkas) but this vodka really releases its flavour as it warms in your mouthIt’s a really nice vodka that has a really smooth taste and finish to it. I have to admit I prefer a French grain vodka, but this is a really nice alternative for when I fancy something different

I’d never (knowingly) tried a vodka made from rice before. This is delicious. Smooth, clean, and well-rounded with a sort of softness to it in the mouth. Sacrilege to use this as a mixer, it’s an unflavoured vodka that stands up extremely well in its own right. The bottle is beautiful, with a really interesting pattern to the clear glass and a neat, simply-designed, unshowy label. Will happily buy this in future, having had the opportunity to try it.

I'm not the biggest Vodka drinker. Normally, vodka gives the impression of drinking lighter fluid, gulping down an endless stream of magma. But this, made out of rice and not potatoes, is as smooth as any premium spirit I've tasted. So flavoursome I've been drinking it neat rather than mixed with pop. It's a snatch at this price because it tastes as though it should be twice as expensive. Delish darlings, delish!

Nice aroma and it tastes smooth. It is made with 100% Japanese white rice, the name Haku means "white" in Japanese. The bottle is very attractive and makes a great gift to give to someone.Keep it in the freezer, it won’t freeze due to the alcohol.Makes a great fun surprise at a gathering of friends, you could add some Japanese articats and have a themed party with the Vodka at the forefront.

This is a really nice clean tasting vodka, it's very smooth, doesn't hit the back of your throat with a sting like some, but heats it up. The vodka is made from rise, and has been purified, and you can taste the difference from the "off the shelf" usual brands of the spirit. It's nice, the bottle seems to be etched, and the black and white labelling is clear, like the product.

Bought this as a treat for a friend but lockdown occurred and we didn't get to see them for months so we thought we'd treat ourselves instead. It has a smooth flavour that goes well with or without a mixer, there was no harshness to it at all. It was so nice we'd nearly polished the bottle off in one night without realising it and no morning after effects either

Really suits my taste profile as a big fan of particularly smooth vodkas. Very clean, no bitterness. Tastes really pure. It's similar to original Crystal Head, if you've had that - also one of my favourites. It's good value for money and I've added it to my list of preferred vodkas now. We'll worth a try if you like simple, velvety vodka.
