This is the follow up to the original Steins; Gate and is again produced by 5pb and Nitro Plus, with original scenario writer Chiyomaru Shikura returning. Like the original the game takes the form of a visual novel with interactivity limited to a few selections that allow you to follow the five story lines. The tale follows Rintaro Okabe, the protagonist from the first game as he attempts to save the life of Kurisu Makise in the beta world line. The bulk of the original cast return too, along with a couple of new additions. The presentation remains much as it did in the first outing, making excellent use of lush stills and limited animation to tell its story. This is accompanied by rich and fluid writing which has been wonderfully translated by Adam Lensenmayer and his team, though unfortunately there are a couple of mistakes when a couple of characters are referred to by the wrong name on a smattering of occasions and a small piece of dialogue goes untranslated near the end. Also of note is a brilliant score by composer Takeshi Abo, which really adds tension and atmosphere throughout proceedings though it effortlessly moves to more jolly themes as required.I don't want to mention too much about the story, only to say that I thought the game did an excellent job of adding to the world of Steins; Gate, never feeling like a quick cash in but more an integral part to an already incredible adventure.
