These selection of pencils is ideal for the preschooler to infants aged child to support and facilitate appropriate pencil grip thanks to the chunkier style grip, the quality of 'lead' and the triangular barrel. The half length size pack makes it a great choice to slip in your handbag or a busy bag to keep entertained on the go.Grip is important, not just for skeletal development but incredibly it helps make better physical changes in the brain towards accessing and storing of long term memory, however unlike in years gone by when children were harangued and identified with rubber bands, triangles and all sorts of other identifying grip supports, these help the child who may be having trouble moving on from palmar towards tripod grip without screaming 'I can't hold my pencil right' and so are a very powerful tool to help build confidence and reduce the stigma and stress that a child who is struggling may feel. And for those children already progressing this helps support the hand to build strength to make the best grip more natural and controlled. These pencils help support the developing hand in 3 ways:The quality of the colour 'lead' is firm enough to withstand a heavy hand without collapsing but doesn't require a heavy hand to achieve a decent depth of colour like some cheap pencils do. (Of course a heavier pressure does create a deeper colour but a light touch still imparts decent colour)The barrel is chunky helping small hands grip better by filling their hand more than slimmer traditional colouring tools, but isn't too chunky allowing progression from younger tools towards 'regular' pencils. The triangular barrel helps facilitate the tripod grip by giving a better surface to grip onto than a octagonal or smooth round barrel. The selection of colours is good covering the rainbow plus pink, brown, black and that 'peach' tone, the black isn't the best in terms of pigmentation but the rest are pretty good, not scratchy and colour smoothly and are pleasant to hold.If your child is struggling particularly there are other tools including colouring sets specifically tooled for dominant handedness which may help better but these are great as an on the go facilitator for any child to consolidate the development and practice of the tripod grip especially if they use a full size set at home or are graduating from the chunky ones.

With young kids in the family together with a couple of adults caught up in the adult colouring craze we've tried a few sets of coloured pencils recently and these Trio pencils from Stabilo are among the best. They're full-length and extra chunky pencils with a rounded triangular profile that encourages you to hold the pencil in the 'correct' three-fingered grip. It isn't only the wooden body of the pencil that's thicker than average and the coloured leads are too - so they're great for big colouring-in tasks. They're obviously aimed at children but the selection of colours in the set of 24 we tried is excellent with a selection of practical 'grown-up' colours and not just a set of garish primary colours. They'd be great for drawing objects from the natural world, you get a selection of greens for example, or even for portraits as there are several different shades that could work as skin-tones. Each pencil gives a nice saturated but soft effect and you don't have to press too hard to get a good strong colour, likewise a light touch gets you a very subtle pastel effect. The colours included in the 24 pencil set include: 100 White, 726 Grey, 720 Black, 315 Cherry Red, 221 Orange, 205 Yellow, 350 Pink, 355 Flesh Pink, 405 Ultramarine Blue, 455 Sky Blue, 385 Blue Violet, 345 Red Violet, 655 Light Brown, 635 Dark Brown, 520 Viridian Green, 530 Green, 325 Carmine Red, 215 Indian Yellow, 575 Leaf Green, 310 Stabilo Red, 615 Dark Ochre plus three more I couldn't find a name for, two shades of green and a dark purple. The card wallet they come in is a bit flimsy and ours had burst open in transit, so you'll need a good pencil case or pot to keep them in. Apart from that minor quibble they're a really good child-friendly (adult-compatible) set of coloured pencils any budding artist would enjoy using. The triangular shape really works to make them comfortable to hold and therefore more controllable.

Lately I have been doing a lot of art therapy type of colouring ... I find it relaxing and therapeutic especially when I am feeling stressed or sad. The only problem is with this form of relaxation is that you get through a lot of colouring pens and pencils. So when I had the chance to review these Trio Thick Colouring Pencils from Stabilo I jumped at the chance. The pencils come in a fairly robust cardboard box, however I didn't feel that this was robust enough to store them so I removed the pencils and placed them in a small plastic beaker. I am pleased to say that the 'lead' points were intact on receipt and none of them were broken. There are twelve jumbo tipped (4.2mm)standard length pencils in an array of colours including:• Black• Brown• Red• Pink• Orange• Buff• Yellow• Light green• Dark green• Light blue• Dark blue• PurpleAs a colouring pencil these pencils are very good quality, the barrels are triangular shaped making them much easier and more comfortable to hold. These would make very good colouring pencils for young children. I have enjoyed using them to colour some pictures from colouring books as in the form of art therapy. They colour beautifully and I have been able to try my hand at different effects such as a light wash, or shading or even for building up the colour to form a dense colour.I have had to sharpen a few of the more common colours and was delighted to find that these colouring pencils sharpen to a point easily (using the larger hole of a two hole sharpener).

There are a few variations of these colouring pencils available on this product page (wallet of 12 with pencil sharpener, wallet of 12, wallet of 15, wallet of 18 or wallet of 24) and so I'd just like to confirm that the set that my review is for is the 12 pencils without sharpener. Both of my children are young and have been happily using these pencils since they arrived for their colouring in and drawing. The pencils themselves are a standard length however they are slightly thicker and have a triangular barrel to help your little one with their tripod grip.My son actually struggled quite a bit to change from a fist grip to a tripod grip a little while ago but thankfully does now use the normal tripod grip.My daughter is younger and we are trying to encourage her to hold her pencils properly now with the tripod grip and so these pencils do seem to be encouraging her to do so more times than not. I have noticed that a lot of companies have now swapped to the triangular shape for younger children and even whilst out for a meal yesterday the crayons that were given to my children to colour in with were all triangular shaped so it does seem to be the preferred shape for little ones now.The colours in the set I received are:-BrownBlackPurpleBlueLight BlueDark GreenLight GreenRedPinkLight PinkOrangeYellowThe pencils in this set of 12 have nice strong shades and they do not need a lot of pressure to use them and so I am more than happy for my youngest to be using them.

Stabilo have become my go-to brand for drawing materials to use with children, and these fit the bill perfectly. They are one of those products where you may not realise how well they are designed until you use a rubbish version! Then it's clear that every aspect of these has been well thought out for use by young children. They are nice and chunky for little hands to grip, and this effect is further enhanced by a triangular barrel and shorter length so all in all the size and balance is just right. Although they are half the length of standard pencils, the core colour is also really chunky so both more durable if dropped and also longer lasting than a slimmer pencil. And even better, the colours are slightly softer than a standard coloured pencil so will reward the smallest artists with maximum colour saturation for minimum effort! This pack includes 12 pencils including black, brown, peach (much more useful than the white that is so often included with coloured pencils!), pink, red, orange, yellow, light and dark greens, light and dark blues, and purple. The only reason I have not given these the full five stars is that you will need a chunky pencil sharpener to go with them, and this isn't included. However if you have young children who love drawing, or whom you want to encourage to draw more, these are the perfect purchase.

These are full-length 18cm pencils, so they are a little bit cumbersome for toddler hands that might prefer something a little shorter. However the triangle shape definitely encourage the tripod grip- something your health visitor may mention as a milestone of your child’s development. The leads are nicely soft and bold. My boy generally has a very light touch with pencils, so doesn’t make particularly strong marks with wax crayons or normal coloured pencils, but he managed to make a pretty decent mark with these. Conversely the leads are also strong enough to handle the pressure of a heavy hand- I deliberately tried pressing them down hard to test them, and they didn’t snap.Even as a grown-up they’re strangely satisfying to use.Obviously they need a large-diameter pencil sharpener (the larger part of the two-width sharpeners you can get), which not everybody already has. They sharpen nicely, and the wood doesn’t flake. This is a very decent set of kids pencils, and while a shorter set might suit our youngest a little more at the moment, the length of them should mean that they last a long time. They’re also durable so should perform pretty well in a classroom situation as well, I’d have thought.

The current price for this pack of 15 Trio Thick Colouring pencils is 8.99, which works out at roughly 60p per pencil which seems very reasonable given the quality of the pencils. Recommended usage (found on the back of the pack) is for little artists who love using lots of colour in creative ways). The pencils are a triangular shape which aids young children in making the "tripod grip" on the pencils. There is a sponge inside the plastic pack which holds the pencils securely but you could remove this and increase the capacity of the case.Distribution of colours feels a little biased towards the red/purple end of the colour wheel. You get two reds, two pinks, two purples, one orange, one yellow, one brown, two blues, two greens, one grey and one black. But they are really nice to use, have a lovely tone and the colour is very responsive to changes in pressure, giving you the ability to go from barely there colour to deep shading. It isn't necessary to press really hard to get colour on the page.Overall - a lovely set of pencils, reasonable price, would make a nice present for the budding artist in your family.

This pack has 15 different coloured pencils, from flesh to yellow, orange, pink, red, crimson, purple, mauve, brown, grey, black, pale and dark blue, pale green and dark green. These pencils are thicker than normal, triangular in shape (with soft corners) and padded in their repeatable container, so that they don't break in transit. They have a remarkably low ticket value for their quality, in fact they are softer than a normal pencil. Unlike a standard graphite pencil which would berated HB, or B if soft, or 2B etc, these do not have a rating, but feel something like a B or 2B. This if course means the way they deliver colour on the page is far superior and your ability to 'shade' is increased. These are colouring pencils for the serious user and you get great results. The wide range of colours with the softer lead means that the spread of colours and the mixture you can produce are quite exceptional. Who would have believed you could get pencils this good?

Excellent set of colouring pencils which the children found easy to hold. I used them for my adult colouring books and they created good vibrant colours, though you could change the depth of colour by simply changing the way you held the pencil or how strong you wanted it to be.For the children, these were perfect as they had enough colours for their own needs and they enjoyed colouring in and drawing with this comfortable to hold the pencil. The colours are varied and with the excellent selection there is no picture the kids have not the colours for. I love the price of these pencils as the amount of colouring they provide is evident from the first use of each pencil.STABILO Trio Thick Colouring Pencils,in my opinion, are perfect for small junior hands as the thickness allows the children to get a good firm grip without them breaking or simply slipping out of the children's hands.Happy to recommend.

As part of Amazon's 'Add-On Programme', at the time of writing, these quality pencils are at a very good price. From the pack:✏️️ 203/12-01✏️️ STABILO✏️️ TRIO✏️️ 12 THICK COLORING PENCILSTaking time out from experimenting with my adult colouring-in tools, these are my overall favourites for 'littler folk', learning the art of colouring in, if you'll pardon the pun!The chunky 12 arrive in a plastic wallet. The triangular barrel can help develop pencil grip and the soft cores obediently lay down a good layer of colour with little effort, in my experience. Each full-length, ready-to-use pencil is around 17.5 cm when new, including the rounded point. The attractive striped pencil has 'STABILO ~ TRIO ~ CE'embossed on one side, along with various numerical codes including the COLOUR CODE (but not the 'COLOUR NAME').

I bought these for my younger son as he had started snapping standard colouring pencils in half when he was using them. He uses these Stabilo Trio pencils at nursery and is much happier colouring with them and being thicker barrelled than an ordinary pencil he hasn't managed to snap them. The set comes with a sharpener which I have removed from the pack so he can't accidentally get his hands on it. The pencils sharpen to a nice point and are also lasting well. You get a good range of colours in the pack - reds, greens, blues there isn't too much of any particular colour. The pencils are nice to use, easy to hold (he has a good grip on the pencils when using them) and they lay down colour well, they have a very rich pigment.Overall - very pleased with this set and would buy it again.

SHORT======They are both short and a little thicker than normal pencls. So they are ideal for smaller hands.ADULTS=======I am an adult.I do paint and draw fairly regularily and I've had high cost pencils and cheaper too. These are not at all what I expected from something with Stabilo on the box. The pencils exceeded my expectations. Nice and clear. Good strong colour.SHORT YOU SAY==============Yes they are short. Out of the box they measure about 12 CMs long. I can hold them but my 2.5 year old nephew could colour with them perfectly.COLOUR ON THE PENCILS?=======================Do these pencils have the colour names printed on them? The actual colour is quite close to the pencil colour. But there's no description of the colour.GOOD======Yes, a nice little set.

If like me you have young children who are just learning to write then these pencils are ideal. With their broad, triangular shape they make forming the correct grip easy for small hands. This improves control, which makes forming letters and other shapes easier. They're also great for colouring and general craft work. The plastic tube they come in is useful if you want to have a pack of pencils for travelling. The design of the lid means it will not pop off easily, spilling pencils everywhere at inconvenient moments. However, on the downside smaller children might have difficulty removing it without help.Overall therefore, this a great set of useful pencils tgat's well presented.Perfect for children from nursery age up to Years 1 or 2.

Stabilo always produce good quality products and these are excellent quality colouring pencils. You get twelve different colours (packets of 24 colours are also available). These are slightly thicker than usual and triangular in shape, so easy for younger children to grasp - and to help them use the correct grip. This is really important, as it is difficult to correct later; especially if young children grasp the pencil in a 'fist' and so I always use these style with under sevens. The pencils write smoothly, the colours are bright and clear. You do need the larger size pencil sharpener to sharpen these, but I would imagine most people with younger children will possess one. Overall, good quality, nice choice of colours and well made.
