Thanks for taking the time to read this review of the sigma 30mm f1.4 lens for the sony e mount systemJust a quick heads up that this item can be bought for 270 pounds from very reputable sellers online with free next day deliveryThe lens comes boxed with a lens hood and documentation, there is no case or bag and it's a very small plain package although the lens does come in a very safe egg type box within the main packagingThe lens comes with both end caps and is of metal and plastic build it feels nice in the hands and is fairly long but feels quite light. The focus ring is Smooth and has a really nice feel to it. It fits the a6000 really well and is bigger than my zeiss 24mm but not by muchThe image quality is very good, the lens is sharp in the center at f1.4 and according to test results this lens is sharper at f1.4 than my zeiss is at f1.8, when you think my zeiss is being sold for over £900 at some places and the sigma can be bought for £270 it shows what a great job sigma have done with this lensA lens isn't just about sharpness though and the zeiss 24mm does have fantastic character that is hard to beat. The sigma 30mm still has plenty of character but after a bit of testing the sigma pictures are great and nice to look at but they do miss a bit of the zeiss pop I get with the 24mmFocus is a mixed bag, I say mixed bag because sony lenses are immensely fast and accurate in all lighting conditions. The sigma 30mm on the other hand still has great auto focus, it's just its not as good as the native Sony lenses. It isn't as fast as them, it isn't as quiet or smooth and in bad lighting it still works but not as good as the native Sony emount lenses. The lens does support all focus points and eye focus etc on the a6000 and its a great lens in terms of focus ability and functionality but it's not as good as the sony or zeiss lensesThe lens works out at 45mm focal length on the a6000, I personally like it and fix it great as a very capable walk around lens and it even focuses at 30 cm so you can get some nice close shots with nice depth of fieldI love the lens and must thank sigma for their great efforts of bringing high quality glass at competitive prices to us sony e mount users, i hope they eventually update both the older 19mm and 60mm lenses they offer to as they really have done an amazing job of this lensI must note I only shoot stills so it would be unfair to comment on video usage although it's worth noting that the lens does not have ois of any kind and with the slower than Sony auto focus, if your doing a lot of video you might be better of with the sony 35mm which is similar in terms of field of view but it is internally stabilized with faster auto focus which I am sure will be better for videoThank you for your support and reading my review I hope it's helped a little bit, if I can answer any questions please don't hesitate to askHave a great day and happy shopping***Update***Sigma 30mm f1.4 lenses bought from amazon now come with v3 installed as the new firmware. This is the latest firmware with major focus improvements. The firmware was released in Feb 2018 so it also means you are getting a new freshly built lens if you buy from amazon directlyHave a great day and happy shopping

I have recently switched to Micro Four Thirds from Four Thirds, and this lens has been the best thing about the move. Lives pretty much full-time on my Olympus OM-D EM10 Mk II (a great camera of itself). When I bought that I also got the Olympus 25mm f1.8.....an excellent lens in its own right, if there's a difference between that and the Sigma it's in the latter's colour rendering (I like full, rich colour and the Sigma deivers that in spades, maybe a little saturated for some tastes). And images are pin-sharp 9.5 times out of ten.The Sigma is a much bulkier lens than the Oly, but on the EM10 it adds substance to the overall look and feel of the camera in use. On the EM-5II it looks pretty standard, and is equally a joy to use.The advisory......reading about this lens online brings up references to a tendency to focus-hunt, even stopped down and in good light.....have to say I have seen this on the EM10 and it can be distracting. I will check it out on the EM5 as well. What appears to eliminate it is to set the camera to S-AF/MF, though I will monitor this aspect of performance. I can see that for some it would be a deal-breaker - it isn't for me as the all round optical performance is that good, and I'm finding 30mm a better focal length to work with than 25mm for everyday, carry-around use (though in a bag rather than a pocket given the size of the lens). On Olympus cameras the lens firmware is updated with the lens in-situ, and I'm using the most recent version. It's not a consistent issue, but it is a noticeable one, and hopefully there is a fix somewhere down the pipeline. I'm looking forward to the 16mm f1.4 version of this lens, and it would be a shame if that were similarly afflicted. But if you have an m43 camera, this is a lens you really must have. The focus issue is the only slight downside....in every other respect this is a lens you are likely to become seriously attached to. Go and enjoy.

Bought this lens for my Sony A6300 a few months ago. Using it for both photo and video but primarily video. It's nicely built as we've come to expect from Sigma's Art and Contemporary series. The picture quality is amazing, really sharp and the contrast & colors are very pleasing and natural to look at. Not quite on the Sigma Art level but certainly close which is amazing given the price. Like mentioned by many others, it's great in lowlight with a minimum aperture of 1.4 or if you simply want that shallow depth of field look. Sharp all the way through pretty much, I mainly shoot between 2.0 and f 11.The only flack I can give it is the autofocus which I'm surprised many Youtubers reviewing it,haven't talked about more often. It is pretty jumpy and hunts quite a bit when filming lower lit scenes or fast camera movements. It's not terrible but the main problem is that it is hunting a lot, so going back and forth when looking for the point to focus on. This means it can mess up some shots completely in certain situations as it is pretty jarring. I've tried to update the firmware and change/adjust my focus settings but it didn't improve by much.Concluding I would say this is a great portrait lens and amazing to film experimental or very controlled scenes (like low budget music videos, interviews or short films) with. Any run and gun stuff where autocus can be really important, I would use it sparingly. Picture quality & look are fantastic, build quality is top notch. Overall, a really nice product!

Ok there is definitely purple fringing happening at 1.4 (less when you go above but come on, who buys a 1.4 not to use it at 1.4?). It's also a bigger lens than the sigma 2.8 (mark I) but it's so nice to use that I'm wondering if I will ever go back to the 2.8.It's a very sharp lens (at 1.4 and above), maybe not perfect but if you prefer taking amazing picture than comparing lens charts, look no more!If I were to recommend only one lens that would be this one (which is exactly what i'm doing here: first time I write a lens review - and i've bought a lot of lenses over the last 10 years)One last thing: We all know that 30mm 1.4 (APS-C) is the best combination ever if beautiful shots are on your agenda.Still, focus can be tricky with a standard DSLR as the DOF gets very very shallow at 1.4. That's where the face recognition/tracking of a mirrorless camera is remarkably cool (and accurate) to avoid focus mistakes. So 30mm 1.4 does make a lot of sense with a mirrorless camera.PS: the first one I received had a major focusing problem and I had to return it - I remember a similar problem a few years ago with the APS-C equivalent (2cm front focus) but I naively thought this could not be the case with an electronic focusing lens (I was wrong). So check the focus as soon as you get it!

I almost regreted my choice prior to delivery thinking the Sony 35mm 1.8 lens might have been the better choice. Now the Sigma has arrived I am pleased to say it is superb. Firstly the reviews, although very good, point out the fact that oss is not availabe for this lens unlike the sony lens. Also the sigma is noisy when auto focusing. Considering I wanted a lens that deals with low light in video as well as stills I had concerns aboit my choice. I need not have worried. On video, the lack of oss seems to make little difference. Just be aware, work smoothly or simply support the camera where possible. But then isnt that just old school common sense, dating back to when image stabalization didnt exist ??And as far as auto focus motor noise. No more or less than my sony lenses, ie kit, pancake and 18-200.I noticed the latest firmware is already installed which maybe addresses some of the negatives on some reviews. All I can say is absolutely no regrets with this gem of a lens. Its fast crisp superb for low light and portrait. And its 30mm instead of sonys 35 which makes it more useable for general use, getting that extra bit more into the frame when needed. To conclude no regrets from me ?

Image Stabilization: 5/5 because this is handled mainly by the CameraAuto-Focus: 5/5 because it is incredibly quick, again, partly due to the CameraLow Light: 4/5 Although it is F1.4 you will struggle if you don't have a tripod in Low-LightOverall Review (My Case)The colours produced by the lens definitely have a darkened tint to them, some would even say flat, but I wouldn't go that far. Obviously this can all be edited in post through Colour Correction. But this is also a known problem with Sony Cameras as a whole I believe, so it might not be the fault of the product, but of the sensors on the Cameras. Either way, It is still a fantastic lens for the price, and also the widest Aperture (F1.4!).I would recommend this to everyone with an e-mount camera especially if this is the first lense you buy, which it is in my case, with the (still fantastic) Sony Alpha A600. Also I did manage to get mine for £20 cheaper through purchasing an Amazon Gift Card for myself. So it might be worth trying to get that deal next time it appears!

As I spent my learnign months using only the sony a6000 kit lens (zoom lens) I needed a new lens. After research on quality and price check this seemed to be a good lens that matched my expectations. And it is what I expected from it. Using only zoom lens for a year, it was a challenge to try this one. But being a prime lens with a large aperture of 1.4 it helped me better integrate in my instincts how the aperture and distance from the subject in focus affect the look of the bokeh. The warm tones, the clarity and overall performace at high and low aperture make this is must have for any beginner or even for other pro photographers as well.To me Sigma is now a company I can trust and I amthrilled for my new purchase when I will afford to upgrade my gear.

The lens is very sharp as you can read on most reviews online. It is bulkier than it's alternative from Sony, so if you just switched from the kit lens like I did, you will feel it, but it's not a problem after a while. The only problem I had with this lens was the slow autofocus, it tended to hunt a lot. I have updated the firmware to the latest version from 2018 (version 03) and now it's extremely fast and accurate.I only gave 4 stars because of the chromatic abberation that seems to plague every shot. It can be removed in post processing but for me it seems to be present in areas where I wouldn't expect it.

I love this lens! :) The picture quality is sharp with nice colours and skin tones. The bokeh at f1.4 is lovely. I use it for landscapes, portraits, street photography, indoors, outdoors - it copes with alsorts and is my 'always on' lens. The only problem with this lens is that you don't get straight lines when photographing walls and other straight lines on buildings, however this can easily be fixed in post with a teeny bit of editing. I also have the Sony 35mm lens and although the problem with straight lines is not seen with this lens, the sharpness and picture quality of the Sigma lens is superior.

Essential companion for the A6000 and the first lens anyone should buy for Sony APS-C. This is a solid, rugged lens, which feels significantly better to handle than the F2.8 art lens equivalent, and needless to say, takes incredible pictures when used in the right environment. This has a buttery smooth focus ring that feels like a volume control from some seriously expensive hifi - it's a shame that it's barely used with the Sony's excellent AF. Unlike the art lens, and contrary to the description, this doesn't come with a case, however the lens hood when reversed provides useful protection in a bag.

This is an excellent lens, good colour, contrast and very sharp. There are lots of youtube reviews and online info so I will not go into detail. On an a6000 or a 6300 its very good, just keep your shutter speed up as its not stabilised, on the a6500 the stabilisation in body does the trick. I tried this and the Sony 35mm OSS and I prefer the slightly wider view, option of a wider f stop and the sharpness, its just a bigger lens if that is a big issue for you but overall I think its a better lens (and get the 16mm version as well as that is also an excellent lens on the Sony APS[c)

Superb bright and sharp lens with a very pleasant bokeh. Well-balanced and sturdy construction; that huge focus ring is a joy to use!Unfortunately it does not come with a lens case as the other Sigma lenses; a lens hood is included. There is indeed chromatic aberration (purple fringing) when wide open (f 1.4) but easily fixable with a couple of clicks on a photo editor like Lightroom (see screenshots below with the 1:1 zoom before and after correcting the purple fringing).(The attached macro shot was obtained by using 10mm + 16mm extension tubes)

I ordered 35mm sony lens initially and regretted my choice due to its image quality.I returned it and ordered this just to collect 1 hr from my departure to France.Delivery was prompt and lens is super solid quality. The feel you get out of this lens is amazing.Gives you FFrame look to apsc.I saw many reviews about missing Autofocus, image shaking and all. But I have'nt experienced anything disaster.Infact I was amazed by its accurate autofocus. I use a6000I used it as a sole lens for my entire tour and shot around 1000 pictures for 3 days.

4.3.2019

For the price, this lens's performance is amazing. It takes brilliantly sharp images and amazing bokeh depth of field with the wide aperture this lens provides. Low light performance is also amazing. I would absolutely recommend this lens to someone who is looking for a good performance lens at a cheap price (In the photography world).I should note, that as of the time of this review, the details provided in the advertising of this product on this amazon page states that it has a 7x optical zoom. This is not the case, since it's a prime lens.

I dont know much about lenses as i am just starting out as a hobby.Became fed up of phone photos so went for a Sony alpha A6400 and this sigma lens. The pair fit together well for a compact kit to take on travels.UPDATE:This is by far the best lens ive used for my camera so far.If sigma would re release this lens with weather sealing and stabilization as well as a quieter motor for video. They would have a money spinner because it would be the perfect lens, period.Must have lens for A6 owners.
