I read the other reviews on this game before buying it, and decided to take the plunge as a/the game was pretty cheap on amazon and b/ i wanted a change from all the games i have been playing recently. This is definitely different to most of the 360 games out there at the moment, and although it is not the best adventure game you will ever play, it is certainly not the worst either! The plot basically involves Sherlock Holmes trying to hunt down the infamous Jack the Ripper by applying his relentless logic to the crimes that have taken place. You get to play as both Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson and have various tasks to perform and complete during the game. From doing favours for some characters so that you can earn more information, or studying the crime scene, and even making deductions on the identity of Jack, this game has just enough variety to make the game interesting. You can play the game in either third person or first person and can switch at any time between the two perspectives. There are nods to the books in here as well, for those of you who are fans - Holmes makes a great comment about a deerstalker towards the end....But is it any good? Well, there are definite plus points and some definite flaws too.The negatives are the length of the game - it comes in at about 5/6 hours of playing time, and there is no real replay value, so if you are going to buy this game, you really do not want to be paying anywhere near the normal 360 price of a game - £40. I purchased this for £12-£15 and didn't feel shortchanged by it.It is also a bit too linear as well, and it would have been nice to have a bit more of an 'open' feel to it too. A bit more interaction with local people would have been nice, or even some optional side quests. Graphically, it can be a bit bland in places, and as for the voice acting........ oh gosh, it is pretty bad in places (though Holmes and Watson are okay). But, the good points now! If you like Sherlock Holmes or have been interested in Jack the Ripper then this will definitely interest you. The developers have taken time to come up with a plausible version of events of the Whitechapel Murders and it is interesting to see where their conclusions take this game. I liked the whole idea of collecting evidence and theories and then trying to come up with conclusions to all the ideas presented. And most of all, i liked the fact that this was different to anything i have played on the 360. It was a nice break away from all the mainstream genres that are around at the moment. All in all, it is a good game to play between other titles to give you a break, and if you like adventure games, then this is a must to own. The controls are easy to pick up and use despite this being a console game. It won't take you long to complete, but you will enjoy it whilst it lasts - just whatever you do, don't pay too much for it!If the developer had taken a bit more time and care, this could have been a great game with better voice acting, a bit more depth and originality, improved graphics etc... As it is i would say it is worth 4 stars as although the game isn't perfect, i enjoyed it immensely. Finally - achievement points. This is one of the easiest games to pick up the 1000 gamer points. There are only 4 missable ones, and the rest are all story related! Piece of cake!

I thought this game was good, yes its no modern bloody warfare, or oblivion. But as a im quite interested in the subject matter myself, and currently reading books on it, i found the game to be more atmospheric and enabled me to see visually what the book cant. Helping me understand the book also. The graphics and sound are standard, but what stands out for me and kept me wanting to play was the story, it was thrilling for me!! The puzzles were sometimes quite challenging and had to get my gfs help on some lol The interface yet simple worked okay for me, not really any gripes there. To be honest with the amount of games coming out these days unfinished waiting for patches, ill give this game much credit, theres nothing i could of want patched. The only thing that puzzled me was the suspects but im not going to give anything away, go play see for yourself. This game really makes you think or astonished how exactly Jack got away all the time from the murders and not caught!!!If your interested in jack the ripper and his era, then take a look ,but otherwise yeah stay away theres nothing for you here.

This game was very enjoyable. No, its not a "crash bang wallop, look at the special effects on that" type of game and some of the accents (especially the Baker Street irregulars)leave a lot to be desired. The thing I enjoyed about it was the pace of the game, you can actually go through the clues and puzzles in your own time without things exploding or bullets whizzing past your head whilst all the time listening to Sherlock (well, obviously not but!) playing the violin in the background. The puzzles do take a bit of working out and were quite testing (this may just be me being a little slow, who knows?). The Rippers murders were fascinating, and quite factual. The result of the Rippers identity at the end was quite plausible. The best accent/look was Watson, he sounded and looked just like Edward Hardwicke from the Holmes TV series starring Jeremy Brett. If you like a game that allows you time to pop the kettle on, gets the grey cells working and doesn't blow your ears off, you could do a lot worse than this.

This game has a stunning use of semi drawn images and brilliant computer graphics combined with a thrilling storyline that leaves the player on the edge of their seat! The puzzles, though sometimes quite hard (meaning the player then sometimes feels the need to gain a few tips from the internet) they really test your brain and give a fresh game play. Also the storyline and clue findings are interesting and based on a true story, some graphic details are played down in respect. Also the use of diseases known to dominate Victorian society leaves the player feeling as if they have learned something. The graphics are brilliant and the images of the slums creates an overwhelming sense of actually living in Victorian London.4/5 stars :)

My husband picked this up whilst we were trading in some games as he thought I might enjoy it. Didn't know much about it, but looked quite good, and the staff also rated it. I'm so pleased with my hubby. Have just immersed myself in it and felt compelled to come on and write a review. Yes, some of the accents are rather dubious. Yes, the DS could have handled this (and possibly felt less clumsy). Yes, it is clearly not going to be everyone's game of choice. But as I stretched out on the sofa not wanting to be overwhelmed by a fast action game, I have to say I felt he'd found me a real little gem. If you like puzzle or even heavy story led games, this may well be worth a look, especially now it is cheap.

I love games like this. No violence, just good brain testing puzzles and good plot. I enjoy playing games like Broken Sword and the Da Vinci Code and I wish there were more like them. There are loads of games like these for the PC but none on the PS3 and XBox 360 so it was a welcome change for me. If you enjoy puzzles and searching for clues etc this is the game for you. If you prefer blowing peoples brains out dont buy it then complain about it afterwards!

A great game that really captures the flavour of both Sherlock Holmes and Jack the Ripper, it perfectly captures Watson's adorable naivety and brings in all the Ripper suspects. I'm still playing at the moment and will review again once completed but it is really enjoyable with loads of puzzles, some easy and some quite challenging, immersive character interaction and methodical deduction. For fans of Sherlock and the Ripper this is definitely worth a buy!

Very atmospheric but disturbing game in parts and by god Is it difficult at times but the pay off is worth it, found this to be quite an enjoyable title to be honest, and kept me entertained throughout, quite impressed as it has aged relatively well too

As a history fan, I was attracted to this game and I loved it. If your after a graphically awesome game you ll be disappointed, but its a addictive game, and being able to see and investigate the crime scenes that I ve only read about was great.

This game is a welcome change from the normal stuff you get on xbox. It's challenging in trying your patience but keeps you engaged with suspense. The atmosphere really draws you into playing the role of detective. I'd thoroughly recommend it.
