1TB X5 T3 SSDI run a 3 x 5k iMac Pro setup for VFX production and this drive fits in nicely. It's almost as fast as the iMac Pro's internal SSD and has worked faultlessly these past few months. It's a 5 star product in a my view although I do have 2 little niggles.1/ It only connects via Thunderbolt 3. That's it. So if you want to move it across to non T3 devices you are a bit stuck.2/ And perhaps this is a little unfair, but it doesn't daisy chain, meaning you can't plug other T3 devices into it. Not so much of an issue I guess as something has to be at the end of the chain, so why not this drive.All in all though I see this as a bargain, and for those of you living in Mac world as I do,

My video projects are getting bigger and bigger and my MacBook Pro 500GB SSD was running out of space. I wanted to edit without fuss and without shuffling stuff around all the time. This was the answer. I copy my video project to this disk and the entire edit and render runs from there.Performance feels the same (not measured, I'm happy) as my built-in SSD system disk. It's an expensive investment to make but it is a plug and play instant fit. Well, almost. At first, the disk would go off-line after some minutes of use. Using the Samsung utility, I updated the firmware. This took about five minutes from installing the Samsung app, which I'd ignored until now, to having the firmware updated.

Use this drive as your boot drive on your 2017+ 21” or 27” iMac and you'll never look back. Super quick and easy to set up. The speed difference is fantastic. If you bought a Mac Mini 2018 model, you can use the Samsung X5 as the boot drive, too.You can even use your Time Machine image to restore on to this X5 disk which makes the process of switching from the internal slow, SATA drive to the X5 really straightforward.Note that you will lose a thunderbolt 3 port though as this will need to be connected all the time.

Compact, plug and play for Mac (but I understand it works equally well for PC). Noticeably faster transfer rate and loading speed than thunderbolt 2. My iMac boots from it in about 5 seconds. I really feel the punch with online HD gaming; the frame rate is flawless (but take into account the graphics card of the iMac 2019 5K retina is very powerful). It gets a bit warm under load but nothing you wouldn’t expect. External thunderbolt SSDs are not cheap but it’s definitely worth the money.

This is much faster than the built-in SSD in my laptop. I wish I had noticed earlier that it required Windows 10 (tucked away in the details) but once that was installed away it went!. Thunderbolt 3 ports are fairly new and I suspect not in most pcs/laptops so be sure you have one. The drive is very pricey if you are not going to get the full performance through lack of the proper port, but well worth the money if you are dealing with big files and do have thunderbolt 3.

After numerous attempts the I managed to get the X5 to install. Whilst speed is blistering, the X5 and Mac was constantly locking up and then restarting. Unsure what the problem was. However, 2 months later. The problem was isolated tothe Thunderbolt cable. Not sure if Samsung is cutting corners with cheap cable or this was bad luck. Anyway if you have issues, please check your supplied cable and change out at the first sign of trouble.

I bought this drive as an external to my MacBook Pro (2017) model and the X5 benchmarks faster just than the internal drive! I am running multiple Parallels VMs and you really can’t tell that it’s all on an external drive! I have also just bought a 2019 Dell XPS 13 and it works perfectly on this machine also. It’s not cheap but if you need it then it’s well worth then money, great kit would definitely recommend.

Bought the product to go with a new 15" MacBook Pro as I was creating an end product which involved heavy memory use. My 12" Mac even with a 4T ext hard drive was struggling to cope. Very slow plus the c-hub kept disconnecting. The iMac Pro plus this external ssd has so far proved to be very good and fast.Only concern is that it does get a bit hot but then so does the iMac Pro after continual use.

This is a portable SSD that's fast enough for demanding video editing. I use it for editing multiple streams of 4K 10 bit video in Final Cut Pro X, and it chews its way through it no problem.Quite amazing really.I wish it wasn't so expensive, but I guess you get what you pay for. Much faster than the T5's.It does get quite hot in use, but it seams that's normal with these.

Is a little beyond the expectations of my hp spectre laptop firmware in the power management of the two thunderbolt ports.I have to ensure nothing is plugged into the other port when the drive is being plugged in otherwise will not work. So beware and check it works with your system.Otherwise the speed with large files are as advertised.

Only had the drive for a couple of days, formatted it for Mac, didn't install the Samsung software. moved My VM to the drive, it works a treat faster than if VM was on internal drive, and I now have space on the Mac hard drive again. very happy at present.

I originally bought thunderbolt enclosure and NVME drive, which did not live up to expectations so I sent them back and bought this instead. Speed is as they claim. Pricey, but for me it is worth it.

works flawlessly on my Macbook pro 2017 thunderbolt 3, using to "work off of" using lightroom and photoshop, as fast as if working off the internal HD.

I was expecting really fast downloads to it faster than the T5 but not as quick as I thought, not sure the extra expense is justified

Works perfectly. Run osx catalina from it and you can barely tell it is an external drive. Had it for a couple of months now
