A very stylish set of electric salt and pepper mills. In all honesty, having spent money on a few sets in recent years, all of which disappointed in one way or another, I had pretty much given up hope to find a set that works well and is a joy to use. These Salter ones certainly are a few levels above most other sets I've used in the past. Yes, they require 4 x AA each to work, but are effortless to use and the added bonus of the integrated lights makes them very practical when used in all sorts of light conditions. I might be biased here, but the brand offers extra reassurance to me, as other Salter kitchen utencils and measuring devices (such as my trusted kitchen scales)that I own have been of excellent and long-lasting quality.I have deducted a star as my husband grumbled that the speed of the salt mill cannot be adjusted. Personally I have no problem with that as I never salt my food once served and using the mill for adding salt during cooking simply means it's quick and easy, being the most meals require a good pinch of salt. However I can see how this could be a problem for peopel who are conscious of their salt intake and like adding extra salt to their food. The push buttons on the mills are very sensitive, and a quick tap produces a good small dose of ground produce, so worth experimenting with pressure and length of holding down the button. Furthermore, the size of grinding could be adjusted by twisting the bottom screw of the salt and pepper mills. Overall, these look great, are a joy to use and will look stylish in any kitchen.

I was very excited to try this Salter electric mill as I was thinking about using one for a long time. I do like the design of Salter mill as its very modern and will suit most of the kitchens - its good to handle and hold. I didnt have any problems with operating this product with one hand - one big button on top its enough to make it work. I didnt have any issues with opening it and putting pepper in - however you have to be careful when unlocking it so it wont be broken.Mill takes four AA batteries which is a lot in my opinion and I wonder how long would they last. There is a light which comes on when mill is in use but I do not see any real need for it - looks more like added gadget.Mymain problem - pepper got stuck several times in the mechanism and I had to push it away in order to start grinding again. I put new batteries so I am not sure where is the problem - seeds are quite small as well. Final product is great - smell of freshly grinded pepper is fantastic and will improve my cooking. I might try and change batteries again hoping that will improve it.10 years warranty is superb and you have piece of mind even if something happensIn general great looking product easy to use with some issues which hopefully be resolved by another set of new batteries. This is a very good-looking, stylish set of salt and pepper shakers from a leading kitchen ware company. They look great on the table and are both easy and fun to use. My elderly mother, who due to arthritis, found them particularly useful and she has struggled with ordinary salt and pepper mills and was able to use just one hand. They have the added bonus of having a small light at the base so that when you press the button to grind the salt or pepper, your meal is illuminated! I found this very useful when I was adding salt as I was cooking a meal because my hob area is quite dark and my overhead lights were not working! However, not only were they rather noisy, they were slightly heavier. This is probably due to the fact that each mill used 4 AA batteries!! Yes, that's right!! I had to purchase 8 batteries just so I could flavour my food. And, it was quite fiddly to put these batteries in. Last , but not least, the actual mills did not hold a lot of the condiment. So although they were quite large, the bulk of the design is given over to the machinery and batteries at the expense of the container. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I was surprised at how well these deliver salt and black pepper respectively: the mill in each grinder works well, with a light to illuminate output and a good flow that requires careful use in order not to over-season. All good stuff, and these are good mills, overall. They look stylish and work effectively. I have a small gripe, however, in that batteries are not supplied with the mills, which I think is worth a star - why not deliver everything you need at the outset, for complete customer satisfaction? Then there is filling: the smallish holes by which you fill the mills leads to spillage, especially with the salt, which is not a reason for not buying, but does represent an inconvenience,at the very least. I don't know how you would get round this - buy a small funnel or use a fist, as I did and risk stuff spilling everywhere. Gripes aside, there is no doubt that these mills deliver on quality and looks and for that I give them 4 stars.

What a splendid looking set this is. Love the sleek design of brushed steel and they do really look good on the table! Function I found ok, struggled to get the batteries in as found compartment quite tricky as very little room for error when placing batteries. Four batteries a mill is pretty high maintenance though, I have no idea how long they will last but would be disappointed if its not for quite a while, as the ongoing expense in batteries could rack up! Saying that, they may last a while so if thats the case then fair enough....I will edit my review over time and see how they do battery wise. My pepper pot jammed a little, as it didn't seem to grind down enough, however a few tweaks and shakes and it seems to be doing better now. Overall Its a lovely looking set and I like the idea of the electric grinding but I do think its a bit gimmicky!

These where very good pieces of engineering there is no problem opening the units up to change the batteries as people have said. They look perfect and a pleasure to useThe pepper is finely ground which is probably the only issue with these units. Real pepper pots tend to be much coarser or at least my ones are and on some food I prefer a coarser grind.Use the correct salt Sea salt not crystals and I am hoping they will last. They use small filament bulbs and not LEDs for the light which is very old fashioned and a good reason for them to go through batteries however I have put rechargeable batteries in them and that works fine. The bulb is also very dim unless you always have fully chargedbatteries 1.5 volt and higher each.Only four stars because of the bulb.If I do not update this feedback then you can assume they are still working.

Looks good to the eye and has a good weight to the product. The circumference isn't big so it easy to place around the kitchen or on table top on trays etc.The stainless steel covering of the mill design gives it a very modern feel and is clean. I recommend giving it a slight wipe down if you have it near the stoves because of oil or water based on daily cooking. It crushes my pepper and himalayan salt to a very fine grain for cooking and my finished dishes. However it does use x4 AA battery per mill which the power consumption is very high. A more powerful motor could be used which requires AAA batteries for future development.Overall I rate it 3.5/5, its good but could be improved to be better. The design is 5/5 but the inside needs rework. Overall a good product. They are rather on the large side and have a slight weight to them when using but it's no trouble to use one handed.Easy enough to fill with arrow marks to clearly show you where pieces meet/come apart. Holds decent amount of Salt and pepper so you won't have to constantly refill. There is also a light (see pictures) where Salt/pepper comes out so you can see where it goes on your food? Quirky and maybe useful feature.Only issue I had was that each Mill needs x4 AA batteries and although easy enough to put in are only held in place by a plastic tube that slides up and down. (See pictures) this seems a little flimsy considering price and how solid the Mills seem. Also I hope the battery doesn't get used up quickly as with x4 will be annoying to keep replacing. Time will tell.

These are stylish and will suit many decors. The size of the grind is easily adjusted and the removeable discs on the base ensure that there is no residue left on the table. However, remember to remove them before you actually grind. They're good in that they can be operated one handed with gentle to moderate pressure on the top button. If you have painful wrists, they're much better than a twist grinder. They're slightly fiddly to set up at first go,but that's just unfamiliarity. How long the batteries last I don't yet know. They are a gadget, you can live without a set I'm sure, but I am finding them useful and enjoying using them, although I shall still use my twist grinders in the kitchen.

These are tall salt and pepper mills 9 inches or 22cm each and over 6 inches (16cm) in diameter. They are medium weight and take 4 1.5 (AA) batteries for each mill. Batteries not included. Call me penny pinching, but it would have been good to have batteries included.Inserting the batteries was not too bad, but they are a really tight fit and hard to remove.Easy to use and I am sure I will prefer using these instead my my current grinders. These are elegant and stylish and it is a pleasure to have grinders that do not spill the contents, due to a cap to keep the spices within the mill.I would have given these 5 stars, but for the batteries not being included

My daughter has a set of these and I'd been hanging my nose over them for a while but because my current set was still working I didn't feel I should just buy another set. However, they both gave up the ghost within a very short space of time of each other which gave me the opportunity to buy them. They are sooo good - main reason why? Well apart from looking really good, having a really smooth grinding action, easy to fill and fit the batteries - its something I've never seen on any others - because there is a little cap on the end which prevents minute particles of salt and pepper filling up my cupboard or the tray which I stand them on. Love them!

3.3.2014

I have mixed feelings about these items as they are stylish and appear to work well but don't hold much salt or pepper so I can see me having to fill them a little too often. I had a problem initially as there were no instructions to tell me how/where to put the batteries and salt and pepper and it was not readily obvious. I contacted Salter customer services who explained what to do and after much pulling and twisting as advised they eventually came apart. The suppliers George and Freddie Retail Ltd. were very helpful and told me to get back to them if Salter didn't help me so I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

This is a great product. I have been using the mills for quite a few months now and the batteries are still going strong. I like the fact that I can have one hand free to stir the food while adding the salt and pepper. They look really stylish too. I'm so glad about the 'no mess' twist base. With the last set I had (manual), there would be black pepper grounds all over the worktop and cupboard which used to annoy me alot. I find the salt mill a bit slow but that's probably because I put coarse sea salt in the mill instead of rock salt. The other good thing about this product is its long guarantee.

Clean and stylish to fit most any kitchen designThe adjustable grinders mean that you can make the output as fine or coarse as you desire with ease by simply turning one part tighter of looser. There is a light on the bottom that is turned on when grinding, I have yet to find a use for this but if you feel the need to add condiments to your midnight snack this may be the innovation you never knew you needed. They are a little battery hungry requiring 4 AA batteries each though in the few weeks I have had them they show no signs of needing replacing yet so perhaps this wont be a big issue
