I'm really pleased with this product. I bought the 2Gig RAM version and upgraded the RAM to 8Gig (easy upgrade to do). I'm running it with 5 x 3TB WD Red drives in RAID 6 and 4 x Crucial MX300 SSDs in RAID 10 set to auto tiered mode.I have it connected to a 10GBe switch on 2 different VLANS. one for ISCSI used by my hypervisor cluster and the other for SMB/NFS file sharing for PCs/devices on my network.I'm very happy with it for the use I'm putting it to. The QNAP NAS OS is powerful and easy to use with simple web configuration. It did take many hours to initialize the RAID 6 array on the WD RED drive. No idea whether a NAS with a higher powered CPU would've done this quicker or not. However, once it is initialized the access and read/write speed are more than adequate for my use as shared ISCSI storage for a 2 server hypervisor cluster and for file share access. The apps are pretty good too. I'm using one to auto backup the NAS to Amazon S3 and to 2-way sync to Microsoft OneDrive.I doubt whether this would be good as a PLEX server. Although the app is available and I'm pretty sure it would stream well, I think transcoding would be very slow. For the price, this is an excellent product and perfect for my use. You may need to consider a higher spec x86 based model though if you want to use it as a virtualization platform or for video transcoding. That said, the ARM CPU is very power efficient and the NAS draws very little electricity which is nice. Not had to use QNAP tech support so no idea if they're any good or not.4 stars rather than 5 as it can take a while to boot/reboot and there is no progress indicator. It does use a voice prompt to say when it is ready though. Would have got 5 stars if it had a LCD display for progress/system messages.

The combination of 9 bays and 10Gig-E at this price point is hard to beat. It's much faster than my older QNAP 453 Pro meaning I can edit 42 Megapixel RAW images directly from it. It's also fast enough to run workloads with more I/O such as virtual machines on VMware Workstation or hyper-v using iSCSI volumes on the NAS. You can also run VMs directly on the NAS too, but it's not really been spec'd for that as the CPU is fairly low-end and the limit on RAM is low. Not that the CPU is terrible, Plex can decode 4K movies no problem, it's a low-power ARM CPU not a Threadripper.Overall I'm quite impressed with the exception of the noise, otherwise this would have gotten a 5-star review. It's doesn't scream the way a thin laptop does when running a heavy workload, but the fan is definately noticable. My older NAS was much quieter in this respect.

This is the first NAS that I have set up myself. The install and set up process really couldn't have been easier.Adding or removing disks to the drive bays is very easy. There are no screws needed which reduces the amount of faffing about. The web based user interface is also very easy to use. Setting up the drives into a raid array was very easy following the step by step processes. The online documentation for the product was also very easy to follow.I like the fact that it's extensible with additional storage if needed. So there's some future-proofing.I added 16GB of RAM to the unit myself. This was also a simple process and I think that it improved the responsiveness of the unit.Well worth spending a couple of extra Euros that it took.Would recommend for any small business or home user.

The OS is easy to use, very well built and quiet.Just be warned this model cannot use Virtualization Station so you can only run terminal based apps no vms.

Great Product at a good price. Need to upgrade the RAM though, remember to factor in the cost for 16GB ram.
