Parker 'IM' Rollerball Pen – PREMIUM BLACK with GOLD TRIMParker are the go-to name for quality writing instruments in the form of propelling pencils, ball pens (of many styles) and of course fountain pens. The brand goes back a very long way and has always been known for reliability. (I am still using the Parker "Flighter" Stainless Steel Ball Pen, which I bought for my Dad back in the mid 1960's. Dad used it all those years, then when he died in 1992 Mum used it. She used it until she died in 1993, at which time it came to me. Proven longevity I think!)• This 'IM' Rollerball Pen in finished in the "Premium Black with Gold Trim" style, and is tastefully but simply presented in a white based, black sleeved box . The pen lays on a charcoal grey faux suede cushion, underneath which are a multilingual instruction leaflet and the rollerball refill to insert into the carcass of the pen.• The Pen has a pull off / push on cap, which can be pushed on to the end of the pen whilst in use. After use, the pen cap goes on smoothly and settles in place with a reassuring 'click'.• The pen cap has the trademark Parker Arrow clip, which is strong and is a good facility for anyone wanting to secure the pen into a top or inner suit jacket pocket, or for ladies who wish to 'anchor' it in their handbag for easy access.• The black body of the pen and cap has a subtle matte look with a finely textured graphic pattern. The tip of the pen is stainless steel and the top of the pen is shiny gold, linked to the black body of the pen by a brushed satin gold section with shiny gold rings each side of it.• The Rollerball refill that comes with the "IM" is a FINE 05 Nib ball in BLACK. (Refill Reference 1931660)• In use, I found the pen to be well balanced and comfortable to hold, with or without the pen cap on the end of the barrel.• The 'nib' was smooth and the appearance of the written script is like having used a fountain pen. The ink flowed brilliantly with no 'gaps' and no over-inking or 'blobbing'.This 'IM' Rollerball oozes class with an 'Executive' look. I can thoroughly recommend this pen – it makes the perfect gift for numerous occasions, or even just as a treat for yourself - something special for you to write with!

I received the metallic 'premium warm silver colour golden trim' matching the 'lacquer black golden trim' version my husband has been using since the summer, hence I have several months of testing this pen range..During my student years some 30 years ago, I used nothing but Parker pens because they could cope with fast scribbling when taking notes in lectures. More recently, I have almost given up using pens in favour of the keyboard and found that those few ballpoint pens I do have, either dry up or become blotchy through lack of use. In contrast, this Parker pen is completely forgiving: if not used for a few weeks, the ink still flows freely with no need to shake the pen, scribble on scrap paper to get it flowing again or wipe any clogged ink with a tissue. In common with all Parker pens I have used, this pen is high quality both in its design and construction. Although the pen inner is plastic, it has a strong and durable brushed aluminium outer casing with an engraved criss-cross pattern to the upper silver section while the lower gold section is smoothly brushed. It is supplied with a medium stainless steel nib and blue 'Quinkflow' refill - other colours and thicknesses are available but this is always my preference. The ink flows smoothly and consistently and with never any scratchiness. At 95mm wide where held, it is broader than the 'stick'-type ballpoint pens making it naturally easier and more comfortable to hold than the thinner types, particularly when used extensively or for older people or more arthritic hands. It's a good weight - feels substantial without feeling heavy and is well-balanced. Despite so rarely using a pen now and finding them a little awkward to hold, it has just seen me hand-write the annual batch of Christmas cards and letters to distant relatives with no discomfort. The pen arrives smartly presented in a sleek gift box, strapped to a flocked and padded card base and is accompanied by a multilingual warranty card making it ideal to offer as a reassuring, traditional but modern, quality gift.

In my school days when we all wrote with fountain pens and used bottles of ink, a Parker Pen was regarded as one of the best and if you owned one you were regarded as 'posh'. I had an old blue and gold tipped one which I used until I was an adult until it eventually fell apart. Fountain pens are still used but nowadays it is mostly roller balls or biros and I rather miss the old ways.So when I was asked to give an honest review to this Parker IM rollerball pen I leapt at the chance as the name Parker holds such good memories for me and I was not disappointed when this arrived. It comes in an elegant grey box with a darker grey lining. The pen is silver in colour with a gold coloured trim and the familiar arrow on the top so familiar to me from my wonderful old pen.Writes simply beautifully, smooth flow and the fine nib makes it easy to refine the writing down to very small without making it unreadable. As I have just been updating my paper diary for 2017 when there is usually very little room for addresses etc (yes I still use the old fashioned paper one) this is a great benefit.I am delighted with this pen and shall be using it regularly. this would make a super present, birthday or Christmas or whatever as it looks so elegant and so well presented. One small point - it is stated that it comes with a refill. From that one would assume that it is spare and there for when you need it. Not so. The pen does not contain a cartridge when it arrives and you have to use the one provided, hence it is NOT a refill. OK I am being pedantic but just slightly misleading. But, a super pen.

I've written with Parker ballpoint pens since I was at school so I'm very familiar with the brand and find them nice to write with. This pen is a classic Parker design and built to their usual high standards. The matte blue finish with chrome trim looks really nice and the barrel feels good in the hand - solid but not heavy. The button to extend and retract the tip has a very positive click action and feels like it will last for years. This pen comes in a smart presentation box and would make a nice gift. It comes supplied with a blue Parker QuinkFlow Ballpen Refill (Medium size) so it's ready to write with. This standard refill is very common and all Parker ballpens that use it feel very similar to write with. The ink flows smoothly and looks good on the page. My only reservation for this pen is the finish they've used on the tapered barrel section that you actually hold when writing - for me it's too smooth and doesn't offer quite enough grip to hold comfortably when writing. I prefer something a bit more textured or grippy, but that's a personal thing so you might be very happy with the smooth finish they've used here.Overall this is a very smart and professional ballpoint pen that would be great for daily use or a gift for someone else. It's well put together with decent materials and should last for years. As long as you're happy with a smooth glossy finish on the barrel, this is a great pen. I'm giving it a solid 4 stars as I still prefer my other Parker ballpens that have slightly better grips for me.

Parker pens might have something of a 'perfect for the older person' image problem thanks to Michael Parkinson and those life insurance advert giveaways. However, truth be told, Parker have always made some really rather nice pens in the mid-range priced sector of the market. Sure, a rollerball is a rollerball (regardless of price) if all you are looking at is whether it lets you write or not. If you want something that is going to last, rather than a disposable item, then for this older gentleman (is early 50's older gentleman territory these days?) Parker hits the spot. This is your genuine article, not some cheap far eastern clone. The packaging is impressive if you are giving this as a gift, but I'd have preferred a blister pack option to keep the waste down if I'm honest. The pen itself is a delight to hold; perfectly balanced in the hand if you ask me. Although I am a professional writer (a veteran technology journalist and author with some 30 years in the business now) my work-a-day writing tool is, sadly, the keyboard. So it's really nice to have a 'proper pen' for when I'm jotting down notes, writing poetry for my partner or even making a shopping list. There have been some complaints in the reviews that the rollerball ink flow is patchy, especially at the start of writing. However, I don't find this to be the case. The supplied Parker 'Quink' fine black refill behaves exactly as I would expect it to and, again, is a delight to use.

This is a review of the Premium Blue Chrome trim Parker pen, not the Premium Black version shown above my review. The pen is an all-metal rollerball which looks rather better than the Amazon picture of it. The metal is a rather more subtle metallic blue than it appears in the photos. It seems that the difference between the standard and 'premium' pens in this range is whether the pen nib (the part covered by the cap when not in use) is metal or plastic. The pen looks very smart and has a clear upmarket look and feel. It's comfortable to use, a reasonable weight, and grips well in the hand - unlike some metal pens which can be a little slippy. The rollerball gives something of the impression of writing with a fountain pen without the potential mess and lack of practicality. It's worth noting though that the ink will run if used with poor-quality paper. The pen has a premium look and is good value. It comes in gift packaging which although cardboard looks good. It's just worth noting that the pen comes with a single rollerball cartridge, not a cartridge fitted in the pen and a refill.Bearing in mind that Parker are a mass-market brand, although with a good lineage, this is probably the maximum you might want to pay for one of its pens. Nonetheless Parker do have additional more upmarket ranges.Difficult to fault, five stars

This is classic Parker, well made and writes well.It is a bit more up market than their Jotter range, which in itself are perfectly acceptable, but not quite having the weight and the quality of the more expensive Sonnet series. How well does it write?Well to some extent, exactly the same as any other ball point Parker Pen, as they all seem to use the same refills, which is good for cheaper refills. To some extent though the more expensive you go, it is really only for the sake of the quality of the materials of the pen, rather than for writing quality.I actually quite like how this pen writes, it feels light and comfortable in the hand, which is not always the case. Being slightly wider than a Jotter too,it is actually a little more comfortable and doesn't dig into your fingers as you write. The pen quality is mid range. The black part near the nib is plastic and the blue is quite dark in colour. If you want a wow factor then moving up to the Sonnet range will provide that. In the meantime this offers a nice light easy to work with pen for everyday use with that slight edge in additional quality.=EDIT April 2021=The pen has lasted well, still looks in good condition. Well made as expected.Hope this is 'helpful'

A stylish pen is a wonderful thing to own and use, and Parker's creations are always the ones at the forefront of my mind when I think about premium writing tools.Beautifully styled and with a two-tone, brushed metal look, this has all the hallmarks of a classy rollerball, from its weighty feel to the gorgeous, flowing ink which comes with it. The gold accents offer a pleasing contrast to the main body's silver, without being overpowering. Sadly, there is only one ink cartridge in the initial pack: it might improve its perceived value had two been included. The inset box for the Parker Pen feels a little bit flimsy, although the inner pen holder has a much higher quality texture to it and presents the pen nicely.Writing with a Parker rollerball is an experience to savour - I don't use it for everyday note-taking, but for cards, letters and so on, when I can allow more time and take more care with what I'm writing. Mine was initially a bit scratchy out of the box, until the ink had flowed a little and it became 'broken in', so to speak. Since then, it's been splendid to use. It's a lovely pen to write with, possessing high-quality design and construction, and makes a worthwhile gift for just about anyone.

I decided after many years I'd treat myself to a lovely Parker pen. The last time I owned one or a few rather was when I used to go to school and that was many many years ago.First impressions, beautiful presentation box and beautiful looking pen.I was a bit dismayed to find the ink refill in the box separately as was hoping there would be a spare one but no major issue.Upon putting the refill into the pen I did get ink on my hands as being a rollerball the ink is somewhat similar to a fountain pen so do handle carefully when doing so.Writing is fluid and precise, as it's a fine point, there are slight scratchy feelings of not being super smooth but again no major concern. The pen does howeverif more pressure is placed write a bit thicker so not super thin and works very well. For the price and looks and overall quality of this pen I would say it is a great buy and would highly recommend this.

This is a high-quality pen, just as one would expect from Parker. The pen - a fine-pointed Premium Black with Gold trim - is very elegant indeed. It is well-presented in a smart box making it ideal as a gift - although that is if one could bear to part with it!The pen is nicely-balanced and chunky enough to make for a comfortable grip. Unlike a ballpoint, I've found that a Rollerball needs a breaking-in period, which once achieved, the ink flows well and - like a fountain pen - makes even my scrawl look half-decent.I am very impressed with the pen and can definitely recommend it.Just to clarify something that is in the blurb: the pen does not have what I would class a refill. Yes, there is a 'refill'separate from the pen, but the pen is empty, but as the pen is so lovely I can definitely overlook that minor point.A well-deserved 5 stars.

Very impressed with this pen from Parker. Its a really good weight, nicely balanced, but chunky enough for a comfortable grip. The rollerball writes very smoothly, no stopages or blots. A good pen is a pleasure to write with, and this is just that. You'll find yourself reaching for it again and again. The difference between this and a cheap rollerball is night and day. The ink dries fast with no smudging if touched. The design is a classic blue chrome squared pattern. Perfect for anyone who likes that touch of elegance. The pen comes with one extra refill and uses QUINK rollerball ink refills. It comes presented in a Parker gift box, and it goes without saying, would make the perfect gift.If you know someone who enjoys writing, make their day with this really well made rollerball pen.

Slightly different in size & shape from the iconic Parker ballpoints, this is a light, slightly wider-barelled pen. The version I have is the "warm silver" variant with a metallic silver barrel and gold clip, clicker and nib - which I find a little blingy and slightly feminine in appearance; it wouldn't be a personal choice. It feels light in the hand despite appearances, but is sturdy and writes easily, although I prefer a fine rollerball point, personally, which probably has more to do with my writing style than anything. It's supplied in a small presentation box with a cartridge installed in the pen. It does rattle a little if shaken, however.Although I wouldn't choose this particular model,it's immediately recognisable as a classic Parker pen.

I write with a ballpoint for several hours each day, so my main priority in choosing one is that it be comfortable to hold. For the past few years I've been using a posh Parker that I inherited from my Dad and that was absolutely perfect for me, but this week, sadly, it fell apart in my hand. I bought this IM because it was the model that looked the one most similar to my dear old friend. Old Faithful was a bit thicker than ballpoints usually are, so I expected that the IM's generous girth would be an advantage; but to my surprise, it's actually a bit too big for me, and I'm now using a bottom-of-the-range plastic-barrelled Parker Jotter instead. One lives and learns...!

24.2.2017

The Parker IM Rollerball pen carries on the long tradition of quality pens from this classic brand. The pen feels weighty and looks wonderful - made up of a black aluminium body with a gold trim. The lid is a nice weight, and snaps onto the pen when not in use.The ink flow is good, and the fine nib even makes my messy handwriting look classy. Well, sort of.The only negative point is the description of coming with a "black ink refill". The pen does not come with the cartridge installed - so you have to use the one in the box - so the inference of a spare refill is misleading. A minor gripe and not worth removing a star for.
