Parker pens take me right back to school and college days. I had a red Parker fountain pen – full of Parker's Quink (QUick-drying INK) - throughout my school days and a blue Parker ballpoint pen for college. I was very pleased to be offered the chance to review this new “Parker Duofold Classic Big Red Vintage Palladium Finish Trim Roller Ball Pen” as it was a bit like meeting up with an old friend! However this is no ordinary pen as you can tell by the price – this pen probably costs more to buy than the total cost of every other pen I've ever owned. The pen is very well made but the majority of the cost must go into the amount of Palladium included here – Palladium is an expensive softsilver/white metal from the Platinum family of precious metals and is conspicuously featured on the trim of this new Duofold model. The Parker pen company has undergone a number of changes over the last few years and if you want to know more about this there is an interesting Wikipedia article telling the Company's history – there is also a related, but separate, article about the Parker Duofold Pen itself which I found very interesting. This new version of the Duofold is available in a good range of colour options with a couple of different precious metal trims so there should be a model to suit most tastes. However, this is probably not a pen you would buy for yourself but is a great gift idea for the right person. The pen comes beautifully presented in an attractive gift box featuring a couple of Royal endorsements and includes an informative booklet and a single refill. The refill is the only disappointment here really because it is not actually a refill but is the only one supplied – the pen comes empty so you need to fit the refill before use; at this price band Parker should have been a little more generous and included a few additional refills! Other than that this is a very pleasing mix of history and functionality that would make many recipients extremely happy!

When I was asked if I’d like to review the Duofold Classic Black Gold Plated Trim Roller Ball Fine Nib, I said yes.Parker Pen Company is a manufacturer of luxury pens and was established in 1888 by George Safford Parker in Janesville, Wisconsin, United States. The Duofold pen has been the firms symbol of excellence since 1921.Parker are committed to making sure they use superior craftsmanship and that every detail is carefully thought out and executed.Over the years I’ve used a lot of different Parker pens and still have them in my pen collection and the oldest I have is from 1976.This Parker Pen, which is a Duofold Classic Black Gold Plated Trim Roller Ball Fine Nib comes in a lovely classic presentation box.In the box you get the pen, roller ball refill, (which you have to place in the pen as the pen is empty when it arrives), and you also get a little booklet, (which is placed on top of the refill). The pen itself is a little chunky, (the one I normally use is a lot thinner in body), its well-made and handles well. When writing with the roller ball you’ll find it has a very fine nib, the ink flows nicely and it doesn’t smudge.I’ve found it makes my hand writing look elegant and tiny compared to the other pens I use. It’s not a pen for the ordinary person, it’s more for a person who is a CEO, a Director or someone who owns a huge business that can afford to spend that much money on a pen.Although I love the pen, I personally I think it’s extremely expensive for what it is and with that in mind I’d be frightened of losing it.

This really is a lovely pen - a genuine, prestige pen. A pen you can imagine using when signing your name to complex and important documents. It arrives in a beautiful presentation case, every inch of it purring softly as to the sybaritic undulgence every millimeter of gold plating represents. It feels solid and substantial in your hand, writes well and leaves no smudges or stains in the process. It's comfortable to use, smooth to control, and overall perfect in terms of form and functionality. All in all, ideal pen really.Except...All it is is a pen *casing* really - it doesn't become a pen until you slide in the rollerball refill cartridge. A cartridge which is four pounds from any given stationer. So, really what you're writing with is... a four pound pen, which just so happens to be nestled into a £320 container. And really, as lovely as it looks and as well as it's presented, I still find myself using my uniball pen and seeing little real difference. Now, I love the uniball pens - to say 'the parker duofold is easily as good as the uniball pen' is not faint praise for me. But, you can buy a uniball pen for £2.50.Now, in some ways this is unhelpful commentary - everyone knows that you don't buy a £350 pen to get a writing experience is that is 350 times better than standard a ball-point, you buy it to make people go 'ooo, that's a lovely pen'. Buy this, and mission accomplished - objectively it looks absolutely lovely. Everything about it is an experience in luxury. But just remember - it's a £4 pen at the core of it.

Back in the Dark Ages when I was at school I had a Parker fountain pen, one of those with the rubber thing inside so it had to be dipped into a bottle of ink, a little lever was then lifted and the rubber thing (bladder?) slurped up the ink. This usually ended up all over my fingers, desk and school uniform. The move to a cartridge pen was seen as the height of sophistication. Here we have the Great Gatsby of pens; it is sharp, elegant and classy - THE pen for the person who has just about everything and does not confine his/her communication to “social media” or shopping lists. It feels so comfortable and elegant in the hand; the black and gold livery is just beautiful. The top and barrel are threaded,so a few turns and the top is removed, or replaced easily. I don't like putting a pen top onto the end of a pen as it can mark the case, and only time will tell if this happens. It's so beautifully presented in its own box – all parts separated in their own little compartment awaiting assembly which takes seconds. So what's it like to write with? Ah, writing with it takes me back to writing letters – proper letters – not an email dashed off quickly. A pen like this makes you want to actually write. The ink, by the way, is wet, so needs time to dryEverything about this shouts Elegance and Class. It seems a bit OTT to rave about a pen, but believe me, everything about this is gorgeous.

Let's be honest, this is something that is far more likely to be bought as a gift than it is to be bought by anybody for their own use.The actual writing tip is part of the rollerball refill, so it will write just as well as a cheap pen that uses the same refills, but if you are thanking somebody for being your best man, congratulating somebody on getting their masters degree or something similarly significant then you can't really just give them a disposable pen. Significant occasions deserve a bit of luxury and that is what this represents. It comes in a very impressive box that is about the size of a substantial book, or a DVD box set, that communicates completely that this is something special. If you are giving this as a gift then the box gets the message across that it is valuable without you having to say so, or having to 'accidentally' leave a price tag on it.The pen itself is comfortable to hold and write with. It looks good and is impossible to use without a flourish because the cap has to be unscrewed rather than just popped off. Part of me would prefer the ease of being able to quickly pull the cap off, but another part quite likes the fact that you have to make a bit of a production out of uncapping it.My only real complaint is that all you get in such a large box is a pen, plus the one refill needed to use it. A couple more refills would make it complete.

Duofold is the "flag ship" from Parker "fleet", proven by the beautiful craftsmanship of all the pens in this collection. The "Blue & Black - Chrome Trim" rollerball pen is no exception and I will surely purchase more from this collection. The resin is nice, light and coming from someone who prefers heavy pens I can say it still feels solid in the hand. It rests beautifully between the fingers and even you have large palms, like myself, you still don't need to post it. Speaking of, the pen that I got does not post securely, but I didn't take a star off because I prefer to use my pens not posted so it works OK for me. The refill that comes with the pen is smooth,a lot better than other rollerball refills that are included with Parker pens (like Sonnet premium). This rollerball pen is the perfect hybrid with the smoothness of a fountain pen and the low maintenance of a (ballpoint) pen.Parker did a great job with this new line of Duofolds. If you have an eye for high end products you'll be satisfied with these pens.

This really is the perfect gift for that someone who has everything. Parker Pens for me have a always been a treat, I've had various models throughout the years - none to rival this stunning higher end model but even the middle of the range styles of both fountain and rollerball last forever and they are a stunning gift for anyone who appreciates quality. This particular model is breathtaking. It comes beautifully presented in a smart gift box with protecotive sleeve and when opened you have the pen, a refill and a booklet. Straight away you can feel this pen is special. Other Parker pens I've had have come in a small cardboard pen sized box but this is a high quality rigid larger presentation box.The pen itself feels special to hold,it is nicely weighted, a comfortable width and upon writing is smooth from the start and reliable. An absolutely stunning gift for someone or for yourself. A really special model and one to be enjoyed and passed down for many years.Highly recommended.

I have a Duofold fountain pen that I inherited from my father and I was very excited to get the opportunity to review the rollerball. The pen is a sturdy black pen in the traditional Duofold shape - I found a website that is entirely devoted to Parker pens, parker pens.net, which gives the history of Duofold - with a smart silver trim. I find the fountain pen slightly large in my hand and already prefer the size of the rollerball, which is 10.3cm from the edge of the neck to the end of the pen. I'm always suspicious of sticking the lid of a pen onto the end of the pen to give it more length and weight but doing so changes the length to 14.4cm which is probably better for a bigger hand. The pen is very pretty and solid and comes in a nice presentation box.It takes a standard Parker rollerball refill. I'm sure that anyone receiving it as a gift or buying it for themselves is buying something that will last and look smart for years to come.

This is an undoubted piece of luxury, from the presentation box and the experience of opening it, through to the pen itself which just feels special. There is clearly an art to creating luxury goods, which I will probably never comprehend, but whatever that art is, the Duofold has it in spades.I received the Vintage Red version, and if I had been choosing for myself from the extensive range is probably the one I would have selected. In terms of actually using it, it has a fine rollerball tip which isn't scratchy like normal (ie cheap) rollerballs and the pens happily leads your writing across the page. Just a joy to use.Obviously this is a gift item and a special gift at that, but for someone for whom their signature is important it is a fantastic gift that will probably last decades.I do try to be immune from the charms of luxury goods (bills to pay, mouths to feed, etc) but this is a beaut.

This really is a very good pen, which is not something you can genuinely say these days with the pens that you usually find yourself writing with. The packaging is gorgeous, and since this is the kind of pen that you are typically only going to give as a gift (or as an indulgent gift to yourself) then you will want the first impression to be a strong one. The from the tabbed lid to the soft lined interior, the pen can be slowly unwrapped to reveal the bronze casing inside. I have the rollerball option, simply for practical purposes and once assembled, the ink just flows across the page now. Even with my spidery "doctor's" handwriting, the shape of the letters and words take on new forms - clearly my bad handwriting as been made worse by using poor pens in the past. A great pen, that nobody would be disappointed to be receive.

OK WOW!!! this is not related to a Bic pen at all...Well only inasmuch as they are both used for writing! This has to be the Rolls Royce of pens.....During my working life (I am now retired) I always used Parker pens because I always knew that I was getting a superior pen for a little extra money.....That said this is more than a little extra cash, but it is a thing of beauty and is presented in a top class gift box with a Welcome card and a luxury booklet. The one I received was the red one with the Palladium trim.....Absolutely stunning!I do suspect that this range of pens will be purchased for retirement/Presentation/special Anniversary gifts as I am sure the casual pen user will find thisrange a triflle too expensive. To sum up a real thing of beauty to keep forever/

Wow, this pen really is a thing of beauty. I have the Duofold Classic Black Gold Rollerball. It comes in a really beautiful box, oozes class and sophistication, and it is definitely too good to throw away, and my pen will be kept inside the box as its too nice to risk damage.A small piece of advice, rollerballs use more ink than ballpoints because its a constant flow of wet ink, they will also smudge easier and bleed on certain paper. If you dont tend to constantly use your pen, i would take the cartridge out of the pen and put the cap back on it as it will stop it drying out, which means the ink will last longer. Here are the refills -

This is an absolutely stunning pen. The Parker Duofold is well known to be top of the range, and this one proves that it really is.Beautifully packaged in a very well-made and elegant box, complete with separate compartment for the refill, it would make the most wonderful gift. This classic pen has a rollerball nib and it writes smoothly, with no smudging, and little pressure needed. The ink flows well and is consistent. The body of the pen is beautifully crafted, it looks and feels elegant, with the solid gold trims and although solidly made it is not heavy at all.I really beautiful, elegant pen.

A Parker Classic (in every sense of the word) with its attention to detail and classic(al) looks this is truly a pen to cherish. The gift box makes it stand out and tell the recipient that this is a Serious Pen. It writes smoothly and I like the fine nib 0.5mm rollerball size. The video tells you more in 3 minutes than I could write here in an hour so do take a look and judge for yourself what sort of pen this is.Not a pen for carelessly chucking in the kitchen drawer, this needs to be cherished and looked after for years of good writing to come.

Got this at a great price, £150 from Amazon, keep holding out until it decreases again, currently at over 300 which is a little high, Centennial size, not International l8ke the old Duofold rollerball.
