This set of the ebony pen with the gift box comes in a dark slate-blue-gray paper sleeve, shown in the Amazon photos. Sliding the white box out reveals a card with a blurb about the Parker Urban pen on top:"URBAN--Distinctive Style With Superior Performance--The eye-catching Urban takes over a century of Parker tradition into dynamic new territory. With its inimitable curved design and range of finishes, it was crafted to compliment personal style and elevate the confidence behind every word."It seems to me the blurb intends to convey the sense of "complement" rather than "compliment," though with a pen intended as a congratulatory gift, the confusion may be viewed as poetic license.(I see the correct word is used in the online description. Maybe I received one of their seconds.)Removing the card reveals the pen fastened by a gray ribbon (and more securely but less visibly a dark piece of elastic) to a padded gray velveteen platform. Pulling up on a loop of ribbon at the end of the platform allows it to be removed for access to instructions and warranty information (and another blurb) along with the ink cartridge that must be inserted to use the pen. It's fairly self-evident how to assemble, a good thing as the instructions are merely a few drawings. This ebony pen has a fine lacquer finish over a textured surface with bright chrome. It has a substantial heft. It feels good in my hand and writes effortlessly. The lid has a distinctive feel when being closed, like it has a shock absorber, ending with a satisfying snap. The ink does flow easily and, as another reviewer mentions, can soak through ordinary writing paper. I haven't had any problem with the ink spreading on the paper I use. It can make a fairly fine or medium line depending on the pressure applied. As received through the mail the box comes protected within another plain white paper box that would be removed before presentation as a gift. The pen carries a two-year repair-or-replace warranty against defects in materials or workmanship.

There's something about a Parker pen. I had one many years ago, and to go back to using one again is lovely. I'll be honest and say I've been using the same brand of rollerballs for years; but there was something about the ubiquity of them. I missed having a pen that was 'mine' - we fall in love with our cars, our laptops, (even our phones) but writing seemed to get overrun by disposable and, no doubt because of computers, the notion of writing implements became passe. Yet, in the same year that watches seem to have come back into fashion, I think it's also time to reconnect with a lovely pen.Whenever anybody mentions pens, it's always right to the extreme - to Montblancs. But that is to overlook the more affordable, but no less reliable Parker pen. Because, if Montblancs are Daimlers, then on price, classic design and reliability, Parkers are probably Audis - or maybe 3 or 5 series Mercedes. They're beautifully weighted, the blue and silver rollerball design (I have) is understated and slick - and to be honest, it's made writing enjoyable again. Personally, I prefer rollerballs - they've got the ease of ballpoint but the presentation of nib ink -- and these Parkers are easy to maintain. This one came with a cartridge; they're easy to unscrew and fasten back up (with a chunky, reassuring precision that reminded me of a Bealetti stove-top espresso maker), and the brushed steel makes for a great grip/finish.In all honesty, I've found myself wanting to use my Parker - I keep it close by on my desk during the day, and look for excuses to write with pen on paper again. And that, in itself, is quite lovely. Handwriting is in danger of fading away... but what else is there about us that's so easy, unique and (in an age obsessed with bespoke 'this' and artisan 'that', so) instantly creative?Go on! Honestly, I never thought I'd enjoy owning a Parker pen again. On price and engineering, I can't see how they can be beat.

This pen comes nicely boxed for gift-giving, in a gift box enclosed in a protective sleeve and mounted inside the box on a padded display board. Considering this is not a $100 pen, the packaging is a bit impressive. The pen itself is attractive, with a black croco-embossed pattern that becomes smaller as the pen tapers. If you're used to carrying cheap plastic pens, you'll find this one heftier, but the weight makes it easier to write with, in my opinion. As a rollerball, it rides smoothly across the page, with excellent ink flow--no skips. Rollerball pens write differently from ballpoint pens in that little pressure is needed, and if you write on an absorbent paper instead of standard writing paper, you may see some bleeding because the ink is liquid and not a gel. Most commercial papers are not absorbent, but some handmade paper cards are. As for the gaffe one of the reviewers mentioned, where the card says "compliment" instead of "complement," yes--that's an error. However, probably 95% of individuals won't recognize it as such. So just don't give this item to your college professor or a career writer, and you'll be fine. Everyone else will be oblivious to the error, and the card is really elegantly done, in a patterned, embossed graphic tone-on-tone print with gold lettering. I've had a number of Parker pens during my lifetime, and they have always lasted a long time and served me well. I expect this one will do the same.

This Parker Urban Rollerball Pen comes presentably boxed with a protective outer sleeve over the gift box to protect it in transit. One oddity though is that the refill isn't installed in the pen, perhaps as it's a rollerball it's more prone to leak in transit? This modern looking pen looks impressively crafted in a stainless steel finish together with the famous Parker "arrow clip", the area where you hold the pen is quality plastic. This is a pen with removable cap rather than a retractable writing point. The cap actually fits onto the top of the pen when it's open and is firmly held in place by pressing the cap onto the top of the pen, there's some sort of moulding inside the cap which holds it firmly in place.I mention this point as some reviewers seem to think the cap doesn't store on top of the pen. I can understand that perception because the diameter of the cap opening is slightly larger than the body of the pen which looks a bit awkward but in practice is fine as the cap is held firmly in place. To write with the pen is well balanced, however, I'd prefer a medium tip as standard but that is only my personal preference, the rollerball tip glides smoothly over the paper. Overall this is a premium, contemporary looking pen which is well finished and balanced which writes nicely - I think it represents good value for money and would make a welcome gift or personal indulgence.

Before this pen, I have a Parker Urban Premium Ebony Metal Chiseled, Ballpoint Pen, which is a traditional ballpoint pen type of ink. This pen, the PARKER Urban Rollerball Pen, Premium Ebony Metal Chiselled with Fine Point, it is a gel-type ink, where the ink is much richer in its blacks, the ballpoint much smoother on the paper with its rollerball. The gel ink in this pen is not like the cheap mass produced types, where it leaves globs of ink at the start. The flow is even and fluid, and I did not find it goes through the page much. On art paper, not at all. I have found it works equally well if you are an illustrator and like to do black and whites,or stylized graphic illustrations. The exterior of the pen is a hourglass shape with a lacquered black that makes it attractive and conforms to the hand well. The weight of the pen is immediate upon picking it up, and you will understand you have a quality item in your hand. It should be noted that the product pages reads, "with refill". The refill pen is the pen you will be using, as there was not one already installed (at least not the one I got). So ultimately, the pen is a gorgeous writing instrument that writes quiet smooth and I think if you are a pen lover, you will not be disappointed.

This pen is a very beautiful pen with a nice weight behind it. The presentation box that it comes in is perfect to use if gifting the pen to another. The ink is free flowing and writes very smoothly. The pen itself is fairly heavy, which I like, but it may be uncomfortable for longer writing period (although now a days you would generally use a computer anyways). When you put the cap on it closes with a nice click. The cap even slows a little right before it clicks shut, it is pretty nice.My biggest complaint with the pen is that the cap wiggles once it is in place. If you hold the pen by the cap, the pen will rattle inside the cap. I am not sure if this happens with every pen, or if it is just mine, but it is somewhat annoying.A few notes, the cap does not post. In other words you cannot put the cap on the back of the pen when you are writing. This is a personal preference thing. Some people would not post the cap no matter what. Personally I would like to be able to put the cap on the back of the pen, but I cannot. In addition, if you switch from a fine point, to a medium point ink refil, there is a large difference in size. The medium point is huge and will bleed through most paper. Just something to watch out for.

This is our second Parker pen and I am even more delighted this time around! The box as always is so impressive with information and styling that was thoughtfully designed for gift giving. The ink is not in the pen and must be installed by the purchaser. The chiseled barrel is beautiful and resembles a mock-alligator or snake pattern; in looks only, not feel. The rollerball is smooth and the ink feels thick on certain sheets of paper. Older card stocks would be a perfect match. That is not saying that you cannot use this pen daily, but you would have to let the ink dry for a couple of seconds before stacking. If you are used to a thin pen, then this might feel a bit big in your hands.Personally the thick tapered barrel feels wonderfully balanced in my hands and husbands as well.Highly recommend this premium Parker rollerball for when a basic pen will not do. It arrives packaged beautifully and shows the receiver that you have a distinguished style and truly care for the finer things. Just be aware that people will try to swipe this one from you :)

The Parker Pen brand, a great British name in the field of quality writing implements, has come up with another winner here. The disposable ball-point pen has no doubt made more expensive gift items like this in danger of being branded obsolete, however, there is still something to be said for a well-designed and stylish pen. This 'Urban' variant has a good, ergonomic feel to it, nicely balanced, goof weight, but the one criticism I have is that (at least as far as I am concerned), is that the cap doesn't fit on to the bottom of the pen barrel when you're using it.This is not a retractable pen, by the way, and I like that, insofar as there's no spring action to malfunction. The ink flows readily and looks good, with replaceable Parker cartridges when you've ran out. Would make a great gift for someone who likes to sign off with a flourish.

Superb pen. I'm one of those whose handwriting is reasonably neat but only when I've got a decent pen, clearly I'm not that good but this one is great. Very nice feel to the pen too, substantial weight but not too heavy and far better than the cheaper Parker stuff that seems to be their general stock. Years ago as a school kid, Parker was top notch stuff and lasted for years. This one feels like it would last. The refill is a pleasing black ink that looks a bit like a fountain pen finish. It's presented in a nice box and I'd have been happy to have this as a present.

The pen overall is great. It writes very smoky, despite not being a rollerball, and fits well in you hand with a very balanced weight. Ink does bleed through thin paper though and the tip untwists as you write sometimes. Overall, nice ink and professional in appearance and clips well to jacket/clothing. Ink doesn't last particularly long though, no more than 3 weeks using it intermittently, so refills are a cost consideration. However, I really enjoy using it, and it's definitely worth it to me to continue to get the refills.

This is a beautiful and elegantly poised Parker Rollerball pen. The premium ebony color looks royal. The entire styling of the pen is like a aerodynamic streamlined luxury car, maybe we can call it the "The Ultimate Writing Machine"?. It just screams quality and attention to crafting. The rollerball pen works smooth like butter as expected. I think this pen would work very well as a gift, it will surely delight the recipient. The box is adequate to serve as a gift box, for the price. Lots of colors available to choose from.

This is a beautiful, well made pen. It has a nice feel in the hand being heavier than standard OTC pens. The color is a rich black and the ink flows very smoothly. My criticism lies with the "gift box." This pen would make a wonderful gift but for this price it needs to have a very nice elegant gift box. This gift box is cheesy and unattractive. Come on, Parker make a nice gift box somewhat like a jewelry case for this pen. Otherwise, the pen is excellent.

This is a good everyday pen. It's a nice mix of quality—leaning into luxury—and functional, everyday utility. The supplied rollerball refill is excellent, and sits somewhere between ballapoint and fountain pen in terms of ink flow. I've got the minimal metallic one. The choice of finishes makes this a good gift too.

Bought some of these sets as gifts for staff at Christmas. They were well received and the feedback I've had is that they write smoothly.

Excellent pen, only bought this to replace one that I lost
