As usual, I wasn't disappointed by an Outdoor research product. This nylon hat has a UPF rating of 50 for good sun protection. And I tested it by turning it inside out and filling it up with water. No leaks and no absorption after letting the water stand for about a minute. So even though OR doesn't advertise a water repellent coating for this hat, it has some reasonable ability to shed water for a while.I really like this military style cap better than a baseball cap and the Evergreen color is a pretty close approximation to Army OD green.I wear a size 7 1/4 in a Stetson western style hat. In European hat size, I have a Kangol and a Wigens pub style cap, both in size 59.I bought this hat in size Large hoping I guessed right because this hat only comes in S/M/L and there is no adjustment. I did OK. The Large fits me perfectly. I'd say this Large ranges from maybe 7 1/8 to 7 3/8 or in European sizes from 58 to 60. Also, I bought this hat in two different colors, Evergreen and Khaki, and they fit exactly the same so there appears to be a consistent manufacturing process.Another nice feature of this hat is that the bill is made from two pieces that fold neatly in half for a really small package that stows easily in a cargo pocket. And the nylon fabric is lightweight in your pocket or on your head. The only two cons I can point out are.....1.) The aforementioned limited size options of S/M/L and no adjust-ability on the hat.2.) The nylon fabric is solid with no mesh or vents. It may not be optimal for breath-ability or cooling with high temps and high exertion.EDIT: Since I plan to wear these hats mostly for summer backpacking and I'm not really concerned about rain, I plan on adding 8 brass eyelets with 2 each at the front, rear, and both sides. I can add the eyelets in 5 minutes per hat for almost no cost. That will give at least some air flow and allow sweat to escape as vapor. It won't be as effective as a mesh panel but it should be better than a fully closed cap. If I get caught in a hard rain, I have a Marmot Precip safari style hat that is waterproof.

I'll preface this by saying I am a big Outdoor Research fan. From their softshells, to mittens, I've liked everything I've bought from them. Good quality, good fit (i.e. not boxy), and lifetime guarantee all add up to repeat purchases on my part.My wife and I both have this hat. She has two of them in Medium, and I wear a Large. I've got a big head, and I was surprised at how big the Large is. I ordered both a L and XL and returned the XL as it looked like I was a little kid wearing my father's hat.As others have mentioned, the biggest plus is how easy it is to carry this thing and how versatile it is. I always toss it in my backpack while hiking, I wear it while running errands on Sundays, and I always toss it in my back when travelling. I tend to avoid it in the dead of summer as the synthetic material, while thin, doesn't breathe all that well. Conversely, it's not warm enough to wear as a hat in the winter. Its really best suited for fall and spring.I've found myself using it most when I travel. Its light and packs easy, and doesn't look goofy. My wife brought one to Peru and basically lived in it for 2 weeks through all kinds of weather. It blocks the sun (as it's got an spf30 rating), fit the part of a backpacker, and was easily stowable in any just about any pocket. To recap:Pros - Versatility, looks good, brim doesn't look like it folds while wearing it (it stays rouned), dries quickly, ideal for travel.Cons - Its really only suited for the shoulder seasons. If you want a warm weather version, opt for the one with the little mesh vent panels on the sides. Same hat, just better breathability.

This is the perfect hat for backpacking and other outdoor activities. It's lightweight, washable, and the brim folds up for easy stowage when not on your head. I bought the XL for a recent backpacking trip in southern Utah and it performed wonderfully. I'm bald, so sun protection is a must, but I've also got a giant, hard-to-fit head (24" circumference, and significantly longer than wide), so hat-shopping is always a bit stressful. My only criticism of the cap is that I wish it was offered with a stretchy/elastic headband for an easier fit right out of the box. The XL is actually a little bit TOO big (which is something I don't get to say very often about hats), but the Lg is a little bit too small,so I had to stitch a couple of strips of poly material from an old ripped hiking T-shirt into the inside of the band so that it fit snugly enough not to fall down over my eyes/ears. This actually worked pretty well to soak up sweat as well, so win/win I guess, but a headband with some stretch would have been much easier. Now that I've got it fitting well though, it's my go-to lid most any time I'm walking out the door, whether it's for outdoor sports, yardwork, or just errands around town. Good work, OR.

I'm snapping up as many colors of these as I can find for the right price. Just a great all around travel and outdoor hat. So lightweight, breathable and stow-able. My backpack never goes on a hike without on of these caps packed inside! This is really a five star item but here's the deal why I didn't quite go there: There is some variation in the sizing, i.e. I ordered two of these in the same size but one had to be returned because it was too large as opposed to the other one that fit. There is also a noticeable difference in how this model fits from the Radar Storm cap. The two caps look nearly identical but the fit of the crown is MUCH more shallow on the Storm versions whereas the regular version offers a fuller and deeper crown .Lastly, as many of the other reviewers stated these run really big. So to be direct, I don't think there are too many men who can realistically wear the XL unless you have really, really, super large heads. I learned this from experience by having to return an XL for a L. The L was spot on.I'm not sure if OR is still making these because of the variation in availability and pricing but I'm sure glad I've picked up a few for a fair enough price.

I don't know why I was able to buy this hat from this seller for so cheap. Other sellers and the original manufacturer have it listed for at least twice as much, and it is certainly not a knock-off.Good points: Great fabric. Very lightweight and comfortable, even when it's getting hot outside. The folding feature works well, and I stuff it into a bag often as it won't fit under my bike helmet. The material that makes up the brim seems sturdy and looks like it will hold up to a good amount of abuse. Great stitching overall, and there's even a little loop sewn inside so it can be clipped to something like a carabineer to prevent it from getting lost.Bad points: There is little to no stretch on the fabric.Make sure you measure your noggin correctly and pick the best size! If it's too small, it just won't stretch out at all to accommodate you. Mine is just a liiiiiiittle too tight, but if I went a size up, it would definitely be too big.Overall, I'm glad I got the deal on it that I did. Now that I own it and have had a chance to wear it, I would totally pay full price to get another one.

Size "Small" is listed on the Outdoor Research website chart as being 21 5/8". My head circumference is 21". I like a snug fit so the wind won't blow it off my head. I expected this hat to be a bit large and it was. I put thick double sided mounting tape inside between the hat material and the lining that goes round the inside. It now has a snug fit. I was looking for a casual fall/spring hat. This hat fits the bill *no pun intended*. It's not super warm but it's not a summer hat either, because there's no vents. The color I choose was "Crocus". It's a very pretty color and looks exactly like the color as viewed on my laptop screen. I like that this hat folds up.I did have to split the thick double sided tape near where the bill folds but that wasn't a problem. I also like that the bill of this hat isn't too large for me. I'm very petite and a huge hat bill would look weird on me. I think the smallish bill would also look good on a larger person as well but I could be wrong about that.

I wear this hat everyday. I love it more than any other hat i own which is about (15). I have so many hats because i can never find one that does it all. I wear it to work out at the gym, I wear it to work during the day, I am also a rock climber and hiker and this hat is very good for all those activities. The bill folding is a major advantage too if you are a hiker/backpacker. It stows in a pack well, but most of the time i have it in my back pocket if its not on my head. When i sit down the bill fold collapses together and flatens out; then i stand up, put the hat on my head and the bill retains its little curve again so it doesn't look like its been sat on!One draw back of the hat is that the bill can look crooked because of the hinge at the middle, for the folding action, lining up the bills perfect a little more difficult and therefore leaving it a big crooked. Not badly though and I am willing to suffer a little style in trade with functionality.

I purchased this hat to wear about a month ago and have been wearing it everyday since. It is lightweight and fits my head great and it very comfortable. I wear a size 7 1/4 in a fitted hat and the large size fits nice and not tight like a lot of regular flex fit hats in a large.I have worn it outdoors in the rain and the water wicks off of it, and does not penetrate the material. All I did was take it off and shake it once in a while and throw it back on and it kept my head dry.The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the top of the hat gets kind of bunchy looking and doesn't keep its form. Not a big deal though I think that's what makes it comfortable and perform like it is supposed to being a fold-able brim.I have since purchased a Yukon Cap from Outdoor Research for the PA winter.

Gorgeous color. Good OR technology. Not blaze orange but would think this would be good for hunters. The LARGE fits me I'm a true 7 7/8. These radar caps run large but the pewter is undersized.Everyone wants Glacier Blue in L cause XL is about an 8 1/4.It's big. (The XL Glacier Blue). BIG.NO KIDDING.Unless you have a large melon like my son Kirk (he can wear any size 8, no problem ...my tiny little skull is only 7 7/-8.You better buy a LARGE if they ever come back in stock. NO they aren't in stock at Outdoor Research either. The XL Glacier Blue is only for folks (guys I would assume) with a size 8+ head.Otoh, the Orange runs true to size. It's just a tad small.I'm a true 7 and 7/8 head.Depending on hair length...it's tight with my hair long but after a buzz cut it fits like a glove.

I use to always take an old beat up baseball cap on backpacking and hiking trips. Even though they were beat up I never wanted to have a goofy bend in the bill. This hat from OR is perfect. Just fold it up and pop it in a pocket. I find myself wearing this thing all the time. The built in sweat band has worked great for me so far, and it seems to breath very well.I won't claim to understand how this particular bill is made, but I do know that it always goes back to its perfect shape. On a recent overnight trip, I "lost" it in my hammock. Figured I would find it in the morning during pack up, and I did. I had slept on it all night long. Did it warp the hat in any way?Not in the slightest way.Was also pleased that the large fit my big dome perfectly. I've got nothing but praise for this product.

Excellent lightweight cap for keeping the rain and sun off. I don't do warm hats whilst on the move in summer or winter. Put those in your rucksack and keep this in your pocket for moving around. The peak is strong enough to keep the blizzard from your eyes and the wind away. this is the only lightweight pack cap that will do that owing to the design of the peak making it strong and rigid enough to withstand the gales without deforming and getting in the way. Whether Nordic skiing, walking or just out and about, this is well worth the investment. Described variously as 'forest' green and 'evergreen', it is a sort of military pine green/ mid olive green. Low impact and fits in a small pocket.Medium fits my size 7 head, 57cm in metric sizes.

This is my second Radar Pocket Cap. They do tend to run a bit large. I usually get an XL but the large fits very well. There are several cool features. The hat breaths so no hot head. This is less so for the cotton soft caps. It is a soft cap that can be easily collapsed and the folding bill makes it easily go into a pocket. Another advantage over the cotton caps. The collapse and fold make the had great for going in and out of museums and churches when traveling. The colors are bright so my wife can find me when I walk off to take another photo. I have not used the string in the top for storing keys or other stuff but it is there. My experience with Outdoor Research products promises great durability.

I wear a 7 1/2 hat and the Large fit me just about the same, maybe slightly (SLIGHTLY) tighter. The hat looks exactly as depicted. It also does fold to fit inside of my pocket. I put my wallet in my back right and this hat in my back left and I'm good to go.Also, make sure you understand that this is a military cadet style hat. The bill is not long like a baseball cap. These kind of hats weren't made to look extremely cool, but rather so you could have a hat that you can store in your pocket while you travel. That being said, this does look pretty good for what it is. I like the checkered look over the plain black, though I wish the OR logo wasn't there.

I love these hats. As a chemo patient, the sun protection is critical. It's great to fold up and stash. So water resistant I can fill the inside with water like a bowl. I wouldn't mind a bit of a longer bill, as it only shades the eyes. You can wash it by hand or in the machine. Dries well. Great for travel. If it's too windy, folks easily to stick in a bag or pocket. The crocus color is not very crocus or pink, more of a lavender- bubblegum- blush. My head is 21" and the medium is snug, while the large is loose. I'd rather it be snug than always sliding down over my eyes. I now have 3 of these in different colors.

This hat fit as expected. I measured my head and it fell in the range of a small. It fits nicely with about a half inch to spare. The brim is slightly shorter than I thought it would be, but it keeps the sun out of my eyes nonetheless. I purchased this hat to use while I am swimming in my outdoor pool. The hat dries quickly and doesn't become completely misshapen even when wet. There are no adjustments on this hat for sizing, but if you measure correctly where the hat will fall when wearing it, you will purchase the correct size. A good purchase and a wardrobe staple for the outdoor enthusiast.
