An F1.8 8mm Fisheye from Olympus? Really? Surely this is a typo or mis-print.Well, I have to inform you that it's not a misprint, it exists and - like all the Zuiko PRO lenses I have tested and now own – this is a real gem of a lens.Starting from the beginning, I can tell you that - even wide open at F1.8- this is one helluva sharp lens. Centres are razor-sharp whilst corners, though not in the same class, are still pretty good - more than usable. At F3.5, the corners tighten up whilst the centre improves yet again; this is probably the best all-round focal length. At F8, diffraction steps in a tad, but the centre remains razor sharp.But we’re talking details here,

Excellent build quality and optical quality, but still remarkably compact.The 180° x 135° field of view allows 360° by 180° panoramas to be captured with only six images. This was my primary reason for purchasing.The ability to 'de-fish' RAW images in Olympus Workspace makes the lens even more versatile, with a wider angle of view than the more expensive, bulkier and optically slower 7-14 mm zoom.I would have liked a manual focus clutch, as on the other 'Pro' M.Zuiko lenses, but that is a minor issue.

This lens will inevitably get compared with the Samyang 7.5mm f3.5 fisheye. I've owned both and whilst the Samyang is a fine lens for the money, the Olympus has the edge optically, is two stops faster, has autofocus and EXIF and is weather-sealed. Sure, it's twice the price, but it's sharper in the corners at f1.8 than the Samyang is at f3.5 an offers features the Samyang doesn't. I don't regret spending the money on the upgrade.

This really is top class. The optics are superb. Absolutely pin sharp images with full auto focus should you need it on the Olympus OMD. Sure you pay a high price but you really do get the the very best that lens technology can offer. If your serious about 360 VR photography then don't hesitate. You will not be disappointed.

As usual the build quality of this pro lens does not disappoint. Sure to have fun with this lens.
