I had to think hard about this lens because of the price. Had to be sure it was really good enough. When I had a Canon SLR I had a (obviously much cheaper) Sigma 10–20 f4–5.6 that was really quite poor and rarely close to sharp no matter what the aperture. I did wonder if that might just be a trait of these ultra wide zooms you had to accept, but now I know it isn't.This Olympus lens is SHARP. Even at f/2.8, but especially at f/4 and f/5.6. I was really pleased when I looked at the first set of photos from my Olympus E-M5 II camera. Images are every bit as sharp as the ones I get from my Olympus 12–40 f/2.8, and the two lenses complement each other perfectly even though their zoom range overlaps a bit.Not only is it sharp, it has all the wonderful contrast that makes these more expensive lenses stand out from lesser ones. Photos taken with it often have a real glow to them. With the wide angle of view aand the amazing image stabiliser in Olympus camera bodies, you can almost always use this lens at the optimum aperture. Nevertheless I have found it very usable at the maximum of f/2.8 even though it then loses the almost perfectly sharp corners you get at f/5.6. I don't know whether this is to do with lens softness or perhaps just a reduction in depth of field that looks like lens softness. Whether you'd even notice it rather depends on the subject in any case, and sometimes you just need that wider aperture.Other areas of concern that turned out not to be were chromatic aberration and flare. The former is mostly absent (probably by software correction even in raw mode) and the permanently attached lens hood may help with the latter (it helps protect the very big curved front element too). Obviously you will get flare if you shoot straight into the sun but in general it's not an issue. Distortion is non existent too, with straight lines beautifully straight when they should be.Focusing is more or less as fast as the other Olympus lenses and the constant aperture and super-smooth zoom ring make it perfect for video. At 7mm it's really hard to tell when the camera is level so it's helpful to keep an eye on the electronic level in your camera viewfinder. The lens focuses really close and at the 14mm end especially you can get true close-ups with beautiful out of focus backgrounds. It's somewhat bigger than the 12–40 f/2.8 and a bit heavier too. I can manage on the E-M5 II with my Joby wrist strap, but might end up getting the grip to make it a bit more comfortable and secure. The size and weight is a bit of a negative, but you can't complain about the way it's built – it oozes quality and confidence, and experience with the 12–40 in heavy rain gives me the confidence I'll be able to use this in all weathers too. You get a soft case in the box.So, a great lens, if you can stomach the price. I found it hard to justify but have no buyer's remorse at all! I didn't buy mine here because of an irresistible deal elsewhere. Get it at the right price and you can't go wrong because lenses hold their value really well if you look after them.

Absolutely superb lens. At 7-14mm it has the 35mm/full-frame equivalent view of a 14-28mm, so is a true super wide angle zoom lens. The sharpness, even fully open at f/2.8, is incredible although there is upon close inspection an unsurprising minor amount of corner vignetting at that setting. But it effectively vanishes at f/4 and is so even that it’s easy to correct in post on those very few images where it’s an issue.Being a Micro Four-Thirds lens it’s also far less bulky and heavy than my previous superwide zoom, the amazing Sigma 8-16mm (on my APS-C dSLR that had the equivalent 35mm/full-frame view of 12-24mm). The loss of 2mm equivalent at the widest setting doesn’t sound much but does make a genuine difference, although it’s a moot point as my only wider option on M4/3 is a fisheye lens, and I hate those. As the Sigma lacked the fast aperture and was noticeably quite soft until about f/8 I can accept the slightly less wide angle of view as a fair trade-off. In contrast this lens like the other two current PRO f/2.8 lenses appears to be sharpest fully open making the fast aperture fully usable and not just a marketing gimmick.Build quality on this lens is excellent: very solid on the bits which shouldn’t move and buttery smooth on the bits which should.Again, like all the Olympus PRO lenses this has a programmable function button on the lens barrel and I’ve chosen to assign that to Keystone Compensation which is amazingly good at correcting the converging verticals inherent in all wide angle lenses (done by software only: RAW files show no correction at all). The lens has noticeable barrel distortion on RAW images at the widest angle but it’s uniform and very easy to correct in your chosen digital darkroom (I use Affinity Photo). The camera itself has full software correction of the distortion which it applies to the JPEG files. Correcting the distortion optically would have been very difficult and would have added weight and cost, whilst reducing overall IQ so leaving it as is was a wise choice by Olympus. The distortion appears to my eyes to be almost absent on RAW files at the 14mm setting. I’m certainly no digital darkroom junkie so I am happy most of the time with the JPEG images anyway (I choose to use the lowest compression and low noise reduction settings). As the front lens element protrudes this lens carries no filter thread. But there are Third Party filter manufacturers who make adapters to carry their square-format filters such as the Lee system. As with all other Olympus PRO lenses, this lens is fully weather-sealed.

Love this lens, when going away for holidays I always take this lens and the 12-100mm f4 ... the 12-100mm goes on the camera with the intention of just using the 7-14mm when needed for wide internal shots ... however, once it goes on I never seem to take it off, don't get me wrong the 12-100mm is a stunning lens, I just prefer this. The lens is a pro lens, the build, quality and optics are second to none once you feel the comforting weight of the metal body you know you have bought a "quality" lens, it's fast and it's pin sharp ... however, it does command a pro lens price tag too (well for a micro 4 thirds). This lens won't make you a pro photographer, that only comes with experience, there are cheaper alternatives available that may suit your needs and budget accordingly ... however, if you do have the money to blow then this would be a good place to start

You have to ask yourself how invested in the Micro 4/3 system you are before you buy this lens. It is a really good lens. It gives good bokeh, for an Olympus lens the effective 35mm f-stop number is 5.6 (because of how the m4/3 system works compared to the full frame format). It's sharp, and focusses quickly.Against this, it's heavy, and pricy. If you've a good variety of Olympus equipment, and want a good lens to act as a 14-28mm f5.6 lens, then this is the best lens you can get. If you see your future going a little further in photography, most professional photographers I've seen argue there are limitations to the M4/3 format that this lens can't overcome.

This is an excellent lensThere is much ti like2.8 throughout for lower light or higher shutter speedsThe 7 - 14 (equating to 14 - 28 in. 35mm full sensor cameras) is an excellent range offering true and outstanding wide angle shots. The first outings with the lens have given excellent, detailed results, with great colour saturation and no vignetteAn excellent, excellent lens from Olympus...I attach a couple of images from the first outing shot at the 7mm end of the range

Awesome lens and super wide angle of view. I use this mainly for taking interior shots of properties that we refurbish (for our website), like all of the Olympus 'Pro Zooms' superb build quality and super sharp optics. Ive used this on my EM1 & EM10 mk2 and no complaints using on either body.Highly recommend this over the Panasonic 7-14. The Panasonic can create some purple flare / fringing especially when used on Olympus bodies (Just google this to find out more).

This is my third Olympus PRO zoom, and it doesn't disappoint! Very sharp (definitely sharper than my premium 12mm f/2 lens), bright, beautiful colour, very fast autofocus, nice bokeh when wide open. It's quite prone to flare, but no worse than Panasonic 7-14 which I used to have. It's by no means petite, but I found it perfectly balanced on E-M5 with additional grip. Lens cap fits snugly - I like the design more than the one on the 12-40 zoom. All in all, 5 stars.

If you love ultra wide angle lens, this one is hard to beat. I am a professional wedding photographer and I used to use the Canon 16-35 2.8 L II lens and this lens easily outperforms it, focusing speed, sharpness (corner to corner) and contrast is great. It has some heft to it but size wise it's much smaller then any full frame lenses. Distortion is well control and really great for landscape or any tight indoor photography!

I needed a UWA lens and it was a toss up between the Panny 7-14 and the Olympus.I shoot homes and properties for estate agents, and also a lot of low light events and concerts, and from time to time find myself needing that extra stop of light, even on a wide angle,so the Olympus it was.Its built extremely well, very sharp throughout the range, and handles very well on my GH4.I recommend this lens ,its worth the extra cost...

i bought this lens primarily for architectural photography and it ticks all the boxes. It is a beautiful lens and nice and bright being f2.8 across the zoom range. My only niggle is that you cant get a screw on filter for this lens as the front element is a large dome. It also does a superb job of being a macro lens as well. Ive used its versatility for both wide shots and close ups and the sharpness is stunning

It's Olympus.. It's a pro lens.. it is as expected, first class. Took it out the day it arrived, paired it up to my E-M1/Mk2 and the results are stunning at all settings.. I tend to have all my lenses set at f8.. at this setting the edge, the centre and everything in between are just perfect for me, so I am happy.. it fills in my 3 lens range nicely.

I love this lens, the price was pretty steep but on my Panasonic GH4 it helps massively with the sensor crop, especially in video mode!Very sharp, ultra wide lens - even now it still amazes me how wide this thing goes, I've almost bumped into things trying to get close enough at 7mm!Arrived super fast too!

3.2.2016

Just perfect. I have the three Pro lenses up to 150 mm on an EM-1 and they are all just superb. Build quality exodus precision and longevity. Optics are what you would expect from Olympus. Photographs are pin sharp and rich with wonderful range of depth of field. Five star from me.

1.10.2016

Great lens - but don't buy the 72mm filter advertised with it. The lens won't accept the filter because of the fixed lens hood.Luckily I have other 72mm lenses which will take the filter, so I now have a spare!

7.2.2020

Brilliant lens. Does all it says in the description. Joins other lenses in same range, all of which leave me speechless and stunned. Exceedingly happy with results. Olympus have a masterpiece.
