I've had this lens on my Olympus PL1 and M10 as well as a trusty Panasonic G1 and G3. It performs very well on all of them. I much prefer it to the usual 14-42 kit lenses you get with these cameras - mainly due to it being ready the minute you switch on your camera. No fiddly twisting the lens out to activate it.It's weather sealed and well made. It's smaller than you would think. For some reason it always looks big in photos which leads to quite some surprise when you get it in your hands. It's lovely to use, and pretty amazing for MACRO.Yes it's not the sharpest, but it was never going to be. Yes it's slow so not the best for low light or trying to get a nice blurry background portrait.I believe the amazing MACRO makes up for that.I've got loads of lenses for my loads of cameras - I'm a collector and user and I like this lens. In most cases it is plenty sharp enough if you are careful, but for me it's quality is in the lovely warmth it brings photos. If i go out and shoot on just one camera, but with several lenses, I always know which shots were with this lens because of the colour. It might not be to everyones taste, but I like the warm saturated shots I get with this lens.Read full review...

This is an excellent general purpose lens which might be the only one you need. It has a slightly wider (12 mm) focal length at the wide end which is better than most standard kit lenses, very significant for landscape photos. The motorised zoom is good for movies (no jerkiness). The macro setting is useful, getting you closer than most, although it is not a true macro and the focal length is fixed at 43 mm. Image quality is good as you would expect from Olympus. The zoom does not extend the lens so less chance of dirt and moisture being drawn back inside. The build quality looks and feel good.On the minus side, it is fairly long and a bit ugly compared to say the primes in the mft range. Also the zoom ring feels and sounds a bit gritty, although I bought second hand so new might be better.Read full review...

The Olympus 12-50 mm micro 4/3 lens is a cut above the usual kit lens. It's a bit bigger than the 14-42 zoom, but the plastic construction means it's not unwieldy. It's weather sealed and the zoom function is contained within the body - it doesn't extend as the focal length changes. Also, it's got a powered zoom, as well as manual. There's also a "macro" function for extreme close up shots. This is a truly versatile piece of equipment. It's just as sharp as I've come to expect from Olympus. If there is a downside, it's the slow f6.3 aperture at maximum focal length, but if you can live with that, it's far better than the other standard kit lenses.

Excellent lens, works really well, power zoom useful for video and even the macro setting is not bad. Very useful 12mm wide setting (equiv to 24mm on a 35mm camera). One minor point. I am using it on a Panasonic camera and they do not have in-body stabilisation. The lens is not stabilised either. So you have to hold it still! Used with an Olympus body there would be no problem as they do have in-body stabilisation.

Really versatile lens. Can use it for stills video or macro photography. The electronic zoom is really smooth.Combine this lens with the Panasonic Lumix Vario 45-175mm zoom lens and given that you can pick up both these lenses used for a fraction of their original price, you could have a perfect video combo at a bargain price.

For the price this is an outstanding lens with it's light weight, ease of use, smoothness of operation, and superb picture quality.I bought it mainly because the lens does not physically extend when zooming or focusing which is essential for use on my gimbal.

I brought this lens as I could not afford the Olympus 12-40 pro very good lens as weather sealed and the macro function. The only downside is the slow aperture of 3.5-6.7 other then that very happy.

Works really well on my Panasonic Body with no compatibility issues. Smooth powered zoom and great macro mode. Works a great walk around lens.
