INTRODUCTIONWelcome to a world of performance cooling, a world in which every degree counts, enter the Noctua D15S. If anyone remembers the D14 you’ll remember it was one of the biggest coolers you could possibly buy, and is still dubbed the “AIO” killer. But what differences does the D15 have with the D14? Well they’ve sacrificed more fins on the cooler to bring the product more in line with the consumer market, increasing memory compatibility and as this is the S version it has dropped a fan somewhere along the way to decrease the overall noise of the cooler. Although the S versions of the Noctua products has always intrigued me, because the fans themselves? Well, they’re silent and I do think there is little acoustic difference with two fans on the cooler. But regardless of my opinion, the reason the cooler ships without the additional 140mm fan is to increase the memory clearance which drops to around 45mm of clearance vs 65mm, so I can see logic in why the cooler is better with one single fan. And these are the amazing NF-A15 fans that literally produce huge amounts of airflow with little noise, but they also push air around the surrounding socket with ease. So what does this £65 cooler have in store for us today? For the next part of the review we will take a look at the specifications and a closer look at the product itself:NSTALLATION AND USAGEWith the D15-s, you’ll open up the box to discover two boxes, one containing the D15S and the other containing all of the parts that allow you to mount the heatsink to the motherboard. You’ll also find all the tools required and even some thermal compound made by Noctua. With the SecuFirm2 mounting technology it is so simple to mount the cooler onto the motherboard. Simply choose the correct bracket and proceed to screw the stand-offs onto the backplate. Then simply mount the brackets onto the stand-offs, then remove the middle fan of the cooler to allow access to the screws that attach the heatsink to the mounting bracket. Please note this cooler can be mounted in two directions but it’s likely you’ll want to mount it horizontally like I did in the above images. You also get a few Noctua goodies like NT-H1 which I’d recommend using and an awesome metal badge for your case. For size reference you’ll also notice we included a picture of an ITX board, which is roughly the same size as the cooler!PERFORMANCE AND TESTINGCPU: Intel G3258 @ 4ghz – 1.275vMemory: Corsair Dominator 1866mhzGraphics: GTX 690Cooler: Noctua C14S (Top Down)Thermal Paste: Noctua NT-H1PSU: Corsair AX860iFor our test setup we decided to start off with the G3258 processor, we chose it because we wanted to find a chip that would produce a decent amount of heat and stress the coolers. The G3258 is running at 1.275v at 4ghz. All of the testing was also done in an open air environment to ensure we get consistent results, benching is usually for an hour or so until the ambient temperature levels off to give a more accurate reading.CPU Coolers:CPU COOLER AMBIENT TEMPERATURE IDLE TEMPERATURE LOAD DELTA IDLE DELTA LOADSNoctua C14s 22 34 50 12 28Noctua C14s (redux) 21 36 51 15 30Noctua C14s (PPC) 21 33 49 11 27Noctua D15s 21 29 44 8 23This cooler is monolithic in size and this reflects in the cooling potential it provides, compared to the C14s it provides slightly better temperatures. However I’m quite confident that the D15-S will shine even more if a heavy processor was thrown its way, it would probably even cool a 9350 with ease. Don’t forget to check back soon to see our updated benchmarks with other CPU coolers to see if something else takes the spotlight, although it will be hard to take the D15-S down from it’s thrown.CONCLUSIONI think the D15-S / D15 could arguably be one of the best coolers on the market to date if you don’t feel like picking up an AIO, but with that said I feel the EK Predator is the only real contender in the AIO market. I also feel that with air coolers, they can last a lifetime, and that is one of the biggest reasons to buy an air cooler. One of my systems still runs a Noctua D14 from release and that has never skipped a beat, nor have the fans required replacement. Noctua also have a great history of simply sending out the additional brackets for older boards and releasing new ones, thanks to the Securufirm2 mounting technology you’ll be able to use this cooler for years to come. If you invest in Noctua, they invest in your future.Whilst our testing system is based around a heavily overclocked G3258 and some would think this is a somewhat tame processor, this cooler will keep even the hottest processors well within the TJMax. But moving away from all the graphs, Noctua have created a cooler that is subtle, usable and offers incredible performance.I keep going back to how Noctua are a company that innovate and redefine what performance cooling is all about. Why is this? Well, they for one took the time to recreate the D14 that I loved, to improve compatibility with larger ram which I think shows that they care. Now the only real drawback of this cooler that I can think of is down to subjective opinions on the colour of the fans; some people think they look a little “dull” or a little “boring”. Personally I love the colour scheme so please don’t change a thing! Although if you love the style of the cooler but dislike the fans? Simply swap them out for the new range of Noctua fans which come in a variety of eye-catching colours. Now the price, with the D15-S carrying a hefty £65 price tag, would we buy it? Well there aren’t many other products on the market at the time of writing this that come close to the level of workmanship seen in the D15-S. But there are other coolers that are on par and offer similar performance for slightly less, however the noise levels of the D15-S are what make this product such a good investment. In fact, most of the high-end coolers that offer this level of cooling like the Phanteks PH-TC14 will often set you back £60+, so I wouldn’t really consider it pricey when you look around at what else is on sale from other companies. Basically it all comes down to what fits with your build, but the D15-S is built by a company that takes design very seriously, and that is why they’ll always be a recommended product at Plexus hub.Bottom line: Performance cooling, silent operating, easy installation, well designed and perfect in every aspect.Full review: [...]

So after running an AIO for the past few years I decided to return to air cooling after my AIO leaked in my system all over the GPU. I still needed good performance though and also wanted something that was low noise. After looking through hours of reviews on YouTube I decided on the Nhd15 as it still seems to be the king of air cooling even though it does come with a price. However once I got the cooler in my hands I knew this thing was seriously high quality. From the packaging to the instructions to the super easy mounting system. Everything is high quality, easy to follow and easy to install. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the colour scheme. I think that's an issue most people have with noctua.Especially those of us who run a PC with a window. However I did decide to pay the extra money for the Chromax fans and cooler cover. Now this is an added expense but if you really want this cooler and care about the the looks as I do then it will be worth picking up the extra out. Siren the line noctua may sell the Nhd15 worth the Chromax fans included but as of now the only way to get the look I achieved is to point up when more cash. I'm not too fussed though as Noctua offer a 6 year warranty and also state that if you move to a new socket that the Nhd15 does not support, they will sent you the new mount for that socket for free. That's pretty good service I'd say. The best thing for me though is no more leaks and no more pump failure. There is not much to go wrong here that you can't sort out yourself. If a fan breaks, you can physically see it and just replace it. If your pump breaks on you AIO or you get a leak like I did then good luck sorting that out yourself. Plus it made a mess of my GPU. Anyway hope this helped you make a decision, I will leave it on this note. If you are after an air cooler then look no further, this is the best out there at the time of this review and nothing is easily to mount.

Well what can I say about this beast, its huge, quiet and keeps your CPU very cool. This cooler beats many all in one water coolers for CPU temps while being quieter, better looking IMHO and more reliable (prebuilt water coolers have a limited life span due to pump wear and other issues). The only down side is that it is only supplied with one fan compared with the non S version which is supplied with 2. Although it does not effect temps much (couple of degrees) I did add a 2nd noctua fan as an exhaust that is about an inch from the back of the cooler. my system is super quiet when the graphics card is not stressed too hard now.If you are looking to get in to overclocking this comes highly recommended.Instructions, packaging, mounting hardware, product feel and quality are truly superb.Even the correct screw driver is included in the box along with cable adapters to slow the fan down if your motherboard is incapable of proper fan control. Full fan speed is never needed even on an overclocked I7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz 100% load.

Fitted to a B450 Mortar Max board, AMD 3600, oversized Hyper X Predator RAM in all 4 slots (54mm height), Silencio 400 Case.Bought the S version as was worried about clearance on the RAM. It just fits, coming right up to the case lid.Tip - plug in the fan before attached cooler, as it goes over the CPU fan slot on the mobo and is difficult to fit after.Idling temps before were 50-55C with stock AMD cooler (Wraith?) with CPU fan at 20%Now 40C and fan at 0%!! Barely noticeable when it spins up when playing 4K video (fan curve set to 20% for temps up to 55C). When running flat out, is about as noisy as the stock at 20%.Was stuck between this and a closed loop radiator system.Decided against the rad after reading others problems with leaks and pump noise.Very pleased with it

Very pleased with this fan. However beware of where you CPU header is on the motherboard. I have a Asus Sabertooth 990FX AMD AM3+ 950 socket and the instructions for installing the unit is to take the fan out of it, install the heatsink etc. and then install the fan back. However bar cutting a hole in the roof of my PC you will not be able to reach the CPU fan header to plug it in. So … plug the CPU fan in first and then hang the fan over the edge of your PC out of the way so you can then reach the screws to bed the heatsink down. Tried 45 mins to reach that CPU header before I decided to take it back off and attach CPU fan cable first. What a bitch :) Very happy with it though :)

One of the best air cooler nh-d15 got even better. This is asymmetrical with more room for vga. This is even better than most of AIO on the market , or on same cooling level with them. The only down side is that you really need space for a build with this , so choose carefully the case and make sure is ventilated proper , with pulling cool air from the front and pushing hot air on the back/top. Ppl often make the mistake and dont make a good airflow. Also doing a negative pressure inside helps sometimes lowering the temp alot , but will require more often cleaning due to dust . My ryzen 5 3600 runs on average at 45C degree in a antec 1100 and reached at 53 under prime95

Does a good job of cooling an i7-7700K overclocked to 4.45GHz. My only concern with this superb cooler it that when used in a standard ATX tower it is a weighty object to have hanging at 90 degrees from the motherboard. That said, it is extremely well-designed and feels very securely attached thanks to the impressive bracket assembly included in the box. As you'd expect with it being Noctua, the fan is virtually silent when the system is idling and very unimposing when at full load. Just beware of the size of this monster, as it does stand very high. I fitted it into a Cooler Master 690 III and there is about 20mm gap between the cooler and the opposite side panel.

This product doesn't require a review, as it's simply one of the best air coolers on the market. Product came well packed, with all the acessories for LGA 1151 socket and was easy to install. Their thermal paste is also amongst the best ones, but I used another one. The S version is assymetrical, to allow room for videocards on the first PCI-E socket (on smaller boards), but still I had to install it upside down, because Cooler Master Storm Scout case doesn't have much space on top and cooler was blocked by the top 140mm fan. On Asus Maximus X Hero board it can be installed upside down and still have room for videocard. There's also a lot of room for RAM sticks.

so i bought this cpu cooler on another website because it was much cheaper but i am loving it and i went from a h100i to this because the h100i pump was far too loud and my temps where too hot on my i7 4790k but now the pc is inaudible at the desktop and under load all you hear is some air moving but barely. my temps compared to the h100i are much better i went from 82c on the core to max of 63c on the core over clocked to 4.5ghz @with a voltage of 1.7vwould i recommend this HELL YES if you want silents, good cooling and good ram clearance (im using corsair vengeance RAM)only downside is the color but i like it so it don't bother me

A great cooler, one that's surprisingly big. If you've got a mid tower, it likely won't fit.The size, however, is a good thing. It makes it a very effective cooler, if you can get it installed.I ended up removing the thermal paste three times and reapplying it because, while I could get the screw on one side to catch, once it was caught, the other side just wouldn't. This is something a slight engineering modification (small guiding tubes on the underside) would make a hell of a lot easier, and not make you waste thermal paste sliding the thing around on top of the CPU to get the bloody thing to fit.Still, once on, it's great!

This is the 2nd Noctua cooler I have had over 4 builds, and it is always a pleasure to install. This particular model currently sits in my mini ITX build (you read that right) and, other than a single 200mm input fan at the front, it is the only other fan in the case. The cooler is cooling my i7 6700k and doubling as exhaust at the same time and doing a better job than the 2 x 120mm fans and Corsair H60 it replaced by a good 5-7c. There is also a Aorus 1070ti exhausting inside the case too, and I seldom get over 50c on the cpu after a few hours gaming and have yet to see rpms above 600.

If your looking for a large air cooler with the best compatibility this is worth looking into.Only issues for me are, it's very expensive if you intend to add Chromax parts but it does look great. It took some tweaking to get the fan silent at idle and it's quite coarse to my ears under load. The fan clips are a pain to remove and refit once the cooler is in my case, others might be easier.I was expecting slightly better temps from such a large cooler but that could be me expecting to much.Clears the PCI E port by a large margin and I can still see my ram

Already had a (Zalman) Hyper 212 equivalent aftermarket cooler, and this dropped temps by about 10° under load. Was able to push an OC from 4.2 GHz to 4.7 GHz, easily into AIO territory.Doesn't have an AM4 bracket option, but this is available for about £8 for the future. Its a chunky well made cooler than can fit into many more cases than the non S version.Better than an AIO liquid cooler too as it won't degrade over time, and will serve you well, well into the future. Worth the investment.

Great fan, looks better in person than in images and cools great. Build quality is excellent and the size is not as dominatinf as I thought it might be. The only thing that would stop me giving it a 5 out of five is the installation. Instructions are clear (keep in might it has separate instructions and components for Intel and AMD) but you do have to be a bit firm when screwing it into the motherboard. I have an old 10 year old Cooler Master case but the fan remains silent.

19.11.2017

Noctua products are expensive but worth it. I have a smaller single tower Noctua tower heat sink on my older PC along with Noctua case fans. Reliable, quiet and durable. I bought this larger cooler for a 8700k build. Runs a 4.9 Mhz overclock under 80 degrees. The NH-D15S is superb, it's super quiet and fitting is very simple for such a large heat sink. It's designed not to block any PCI slots or the ram, making it easy to swap components with the heat sink installed.
