So, people say this cooler can beat water cooling, which makes me wonder about a few things. I've never water cooled before, and would rather avoid it because it's just too much hassle and too much risk to mix water and expensive electronics. My previous cooler was an Artic Freezer Xtreme Dual Tower. This particular cooler has only 1 fan (120mm). I experimented a bit with it by adding a Noctua PWM fan that could spool up to 3k RPM just to see if it helped, and it did, but not by a huge amount. Mainly, it was extremely noisy.I've been messing around with folding @ home, and I've been running it on my GPUs only since they are at least quieter in the sense that they'll thermal throttle and spool the fans up to maybe 1500-2000 RPM,which is plenty enough to keep the cards from burning up. Running the GPUs that hot makes me nervous, but that's another issue. When I finally got the Noctua cooler, I went to town and installed it. The mounting brackets for it are MUCH better than the Artic Freezer. With the freezer, you had to literally bend the tabs back, or else when you got the cooler screwed down, it wouldn't have any pressure against the CPU and you'd have no cooling. The Noctua replaces the stock AM4 clips with it's own clips, and instead uses two spring loaded screws to push the cooler against the heatsink. Then you just clip the fan back on and go.The way that the Ryzen 9 3900x behaves with this cooler is a bit ... strange. AMD has clearly not put any effort into measuring exactly how much heat these processors dissipate. The NH-15 is clearly capable, but if your running F@H or any other CPU intensive application, you'll have to watch your temps. You definitely will if you OC.At first, I thought there was a problem with the cooler, but it quickly dawned on me that I didn't use enough thermal grease. The NH-15 comes with NT-H1 which is Noctua's own brand of thermal grease. It seems to work well. I added a good bit this time. Keep in mind, the NT-H1 is not conductive, so, although you might be concerned if you add too much and make a mess, at least you won't short out your mobo or CPU. Seriously though, it takes a fair amount of grease, but not the whole tube.Like the Freezer Pro you do have to take the center fan out to access the two screws that hold the heatsink on the brackets. It's a fairly easy process. You can use the second fan on either side of the cooler, depending upon space in your case. Just make sure both fans are blowing in the same direction ;)After I added more grease, once the Ryzen Master stress test completes, the temps jump from ~75C to about ~42C nearly instantly. So, the cooler IS working, it's just that there seems to be some sort of trick with the thermal grease. I'd like to try kryonaut next and see if it makes any difference. The 3900x just plain runs HOT.

When I purchased this cooler I had heard Noctua's reputation, and expected a great cooler. What I got shocked me, I was replacing the stock cooler on my Ryzen 5 1600 AE processor. The mounting system is very easy to use and understand. My only complaint is that you have to remove the preinstalled fan before you can mount it. I guess I understand for packaging concerns and I can see that it helps give an example of how to mount fans if you decide to mount the second one.I was making some other upgrades and did a fresh window install. During setup I had to keep checking to make sure the cooler was working, because the fan was so quiet that the white noise floor in my office drowned it out. After setting up windows and downloading core temp, I was pleasantly surprised to see idles in the upper 20's and after stressing the CPU for an hour or so, I still hadn't broken 50 C. After getting setup it was time to see how much overclocking headroom I had with the new cooler. With the stock cooler I was only ever able to push 3.8 GHz at 1.3 volts. I was pretty happy with this sense the general consensus is that it is hard to push past 4.0 GHz on 14nm Zen 1. With the extra cooling power I decided to start low and push high. The results were more than I could have imagined. I was able to reach 3.9 GHz at just 1.2 volts. With only a slight bump in voltage to 1.225 I was able to stabilize 4.0. Having reached the theoretical maximum of Zen 1 I resigned myself to pushing after 4.1 and inevitably failing. To my utter amazement I was able to hit 4.1 at 1.3 volts. So, naturally, I went for broke and went for 4.2. I was able to get 4.2 stable enough to boot and run a few benchmarks at 1.375 volts, but it was not stable enough to run for daily use, so I pulled the clocks down and "settled" for a 4.15 GHz at 1.375 volts. Obviously if you're trying this at home your mileage may vary. For reference I'm using a 1600 AE (14nm Zen 1) on an Asus X370 pro board and a Seasonic focus gx psu. Temps are much more toasty then at stock, peaking in the 70's and idling in the upper 30's, but with this 3.15 MHz bump over stock I am very happy with this cooler, and the added benefit is that my next CPU will get to benefit from this coolers domineering performance. I also think it's worth pointing out that even under the higher temps and the fan picking up in speed, I still can't hear it over the other noise in my office.I wonder if writing this review will ultimately have any affect since Noctua already has a very good standing in the PC audience, but I was so blown away by this product that I felt compelled to rave about it.

First things first, I ordered the cooler late November and it's a standard black one without the LTT parts the latter of which I wasn't expecting or wanting but thought it would be useful for others to know.Secondly this cooler is huge so before considering it I'd check Noctua's site which has detailed compatibility lists for cases and motherboards. I bought the NH-D15 to use within a Fractal Define R6 USB-C case for a socket AM4 AMD Ryzen 9 3900x CPU. Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero, Nvidia GTX 1070FE and four sticks of Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR 3200Mhz ram (small heatsinks, no LEDS) which all fits together without issue. In the box you get a range of parts to fit a variety of sockets (currently LGA2066,LGA2011, LGA1156, LGA1155, LGA1151, LGA1150, AM4 & AM2/AM2+/AM3/AM3+/FM1/FM2/FM2+) and all the accessories you need to fit the cooler including a screwdriver and thermal compound. There's good instructions for each socket and Noctua also have online videos as well making fitting a breeze. For socket AM4 I simply needed to unscrew the brackets from the motherboard, screw on two adapters, remove the central fan on the cooler, screw the cooler down onto the two adapters then place the central fan back on and the second fan onto the side. I had two CPU fan headers on my motherboard which I used although the package does include a splitter to allow both fans to run off one header (or at least I assume that's what it is for)On the first power up I thought I must have failed to connect it correctly because it was so quiet I didn't think the fans were running, even under heavy load the system remains remarkably quiet. I'd originally thought an AIO water cooler was the way to go for quiet and effective cooling but I'd been impressed with reviews showing how well this Noctua could work and it's been great in practice. For those that like RGB lighting the AIO coolers will be a better choice as these fans are plain and the front fan may not clear ram modules with RGB on them unless there's a lot of clearance in the case.£90 is a lot of money for an air cooler especially as it's £13 more to get the black one but I don't regret the purchase, support for the cooler is excellent, it's very easy to install, it should hopefully work with future sockets and its performance and noise compare well to AIO coolers which aren't that cheap either.

The NOCTUA NH-D15 ChromaxBlack is an excellent heatsink! In particular I think it is the best!We selected it to build my son's PC and our opinion is that we don't believe there is anything better in air cooling systems! Robust, efficient and extremely quiet, we didn't hear any sound despite having it right next to us.IMPORTANT:Things to take into account. Its size. The specs speak of 165mm however, it is very likely that they will have to raise the front vent a bit a few millimeters higher because the RAM will be in their way. Nothing happens, the operation is still as effective, but they must take into account the size of the case. In our case, the case is an ApexGaming Hermes C2 who claims to have a CPU cooler capacity of up to 172mm and when having to raise the front fan of the NOCTUA NH-D15 a bit, the tempered glass door closed without problems but completely adjusted, a extra millimeter and could not have closed.Of the rest, its black color is sober, superb, elegant. It matches perfectly with our Case and with the LED possibilities that anyone can choose for the assembly of their computer.TEMPERATUREIn order that they can make comparisons or estimates with their current or future computers or components and can be prepared for the adoption of the NOCTUA NH-D15, I will now describe the components of our PC:Case: AexGaming Hermes C2 (4 fans with argb included).MotherBoard: Asus Z490 TUF GAMING PLUS Wifi.Processor: Intel I7 10700KMemory: HyperX Fury DDR4 8GB x 2 without RGBPSU: EVGA 600 Watts 80Plus White.Ok, we don't have a Graphics Card :( Well, we are agitating for a budget but that's another story. So we had to experiment with playing some games with the Intel HD630 built into the I7 10700K and the results have been somewhat frustrating :( well we know the potential of the processor but without Appropriate GPU is impossible to play games like METRO Exodus :( but if we can play less demanding games like CounterStrike, Genshin Impact or Zelda Breath Of The Wild among others ...The temperature stayed like this:Minimum: 27C / 80FMaximum: 50C / 122FAmbient Temperature: 25C / 77FWell ... I hope I have helped you! Thanks for your attention

As the headline states this Noctua NH-D15 cooling my 10900k is producing cooling results I NEVER thought were possible with an air cooler. This is coming from someone who is very heavy in the AIO department. To be fair, if you're coming from an all out water cooled system then of course your temps will be lower than any air cooler, but, if you're coming from an AIO and are considering to go air cooled then don't hesitate to take that leap of faith in getting the Noctua NH-D15.To provide you with a bit of insight as to the difference this fan has made from my previous AIO I'll use a game I play for hours maxed out at 1440p resolution, which I noticed was the warmest from some of my other FPS,BFV. Once upon a time when BFV was still going strong my clans gaming session would go from upwards of 4-6 hours. I mention this so anyone wanting to know if this unit was truly put to the test then yes...yes it was.Previously when my 240mm AIO was mounted I would see CPU temps from 75-78c with spikes (possibly from apps running in the background) to 80-82c while room temperature was at a steady 72f. Since transitioning to this air cooler my CPU has been running from 56-62c with spikes to 64-66c with BFV running on the same specs for the same duration of time 4-6 hours, simply put, long enough for Hardware Info to collect enough temperature data for it to determine what the Minimum, Maximum and Average temps were during my clans gaming session.I have been following YouTubers like Linus, Gamers Nexus and JayTwoCents for years, mostly using Jay's knowledge for my pc purchases. He once did an air cooler test which left me wondering if they are in fact any good. I took a leap of faith and decided on this Noctua and both me and my CPU are happy I did. Temps may very depending on your tower size, cpu type and other factors so do take that into consideration and do your homework.

Fast shipping, I placed my order and it was here within 48 hours all the way from Austria - nice Noctua!I bought it to replace stock cooler on my old 4690k to overclock it and then use on my next processor later this year (waiting for Zen 3 to come out).So... with stock cooler my 4690k was around 60-65'C at idle. I replaced it with this Noctua and temps at idle fell to 32'C... nice! Then I overclocked it from 3,9Ghz to 4,9Ghz. And it reaches max 78-80'C when I use Prime95 stress test - nice! But during normal gaming even when CPU is under 100% load temp is around 56-58'C (ARK: Survival Evolved, Withcher 3 etc...) So I can enjoy more fps and performance and temps stay safe. There is 1 fan that comes mounted on the heatsink and another one is in the box. I use both of them and they never go 100%, CPU cooling is now inaudible for me. Now the only thing I hear are case fans at idle, and my MSI GPU coolers when gaming (which I though were inaudible before I replaced my stock Intel cooler). Overall quality is very good. Mounting is just brilliant and super fast! I built many systems in my life and used many different brands of coolers, most of the time mounting is awkward, like guys who design this are not using their own products. Here with Noctua it is easy and solid at the same time. Everything as described in youtube reviews. It comes with mounts for different slots and sockets and Noctua thermal paste. Some say that this is a con that cooler somewhat covers first slot of RAM memory... But hey - who removes his RAM often? You stick it there and it stays there until you buy new computer. So as for me this is not a problem. Good product, worth the money. I'm a Noctua customer now :) Next stage replace my Cooler-Master case fans with Noctua fans. Cheers!

Let me start by saying i got this for a brand spanking new build and i could have purchased just about anything on the market. Water cooling makes me nervous, but this being a new build i looked into it yet once more and it still makes me nervous. I do not however need more than this and water cooling though it is much more dependable now than in the past is still not 100%. I should explain i buy almost every component based upon its ability to run overclocked with stability and then i never overclock anything. The net result my computers last a very very long time. Sure power supply failure along the way and fan failures all replaced with Noctua or in the power supplies modern Corsair, but other power supplies would also do.Look i could spend plenty of time giving temps & stats once i get this rig completed, but i have fans to add and case mods to make including replacing included fans as needed and yes all Noctua replacements unless i run into an application where they don't make the fan i need. The only issue i have with the install is that i wish i had done so before system was assembled so i could have seen the spring compression and screw threading from a close up perspective as i tend not to trust anything. I know even if you decide to air cool a CPU other options are out there and some pretty good not to mention less costly. Keep in mind none of this matters unless you get air moving into and out of the case.Seriously other than the inconvenience of size which is a matter of function i cant think of a single downside to this cooler, but it is me and i would take it a step further and make sure when selecting system components that they are compatible from the case to the mobo & on.

I opted for this over a new AIO or even replacing the pump on my, now old, AIO. I took three of the fans on my old 360mm rad and attached them to the top of my case to simp,y exhaust hot air out. I was also able to attached two of Noctua’s industrial 3000rpm fans to the fins with those metal clips that come with the heat sync. It just took a small bit of stretching the clips to fit (I’ve opted to keep the included Chromax fans as backups in the event the current fans fail). I did a bunch of testing to see how well it kept temps under control. My CPU is overclocked to 5.2GHz at 1.42 volts (originally at 1.435), so I was expecting a little throttling when I ran prime95 under the worst the program could throw at me.Temps barely topped 80C with a momentary spike to 83C after 20 minutes of testing.I also mine crypto as a hobby, and I’ve noticed that not only does the NH-D15 keep my CPU’s temps under control, but the removal of the 360mm rad has allowed the fans at the top of my case to more efficiently remove hot air from my case. My air-cooled 2080Ti now stays under 65C under full crypto-mining load (overclocked as well, gets over 2075MHz), and my water-cooled 1080Ti barely gets over 35C (also overclocked to over 2100MHz, but being in the top slot, would’ve been starved for air, hence the water cooling). My previous AIO was nearly two years old and the pump was starting to fail. So all in all, I believe it was the correct decision to switch to air.One thing I did not expect, was the sheer ease of the install. It was amazingly quick and straightforward. With Noctua’s 6-year guarantee, I have a feeling I won’t be needing to switch to anything for the foreseeable future.

I build a computer on February, and I was getting tired of the noise made by the cooler that came with my Ryzen 3700x. Love this CPU and I would say it is pretty good and pretty with the RGB, but because I have my case next to my monitor the noise can get very distracting, so I decided to get a different cooler. I heard so many times about how good Noctua cooler are, and I already installed a couple of 140mm case fans on my computer that were pretty good. I decided to go for this cooler hoping to get better temps while keeping my computer mostly silent. This CPU cooler delivered. This cooler comes with two fans, but the second one is optional. The instructions say the fans need to be installed in a push-push configuration, but some people use it in a pull-pull configuration. I decided to use only one fan because I was not able to use the second fan on top of the RAM because of the clearance, and in a pull-pull configuration sometimes started to make a whistle noise. Yet the temps difference between two and one fan only is very small, just a couple of degrees. I did not use the Low noise adapter because the AC on my room sometimes does not work as it should, yet the noise is barely audible when the fan is going at 1500RPM. This cooler is HUGE though, so I would recommend to check your case specs to make sure it fits (I have a Fractal Design Meshify C, it fits but just barely). The installation is not as easy as I was hoping, but anyone can still do it.

Noctua products offer exceptional quality in terms of materials and included accessories. This heatsink performs really, really well in terms of raw cooling.I will keep this review to the nitty-gritty performance. This is cooling a Ryzen 9 3900X in a Fractal Design Define 7 with Noctua case fans.At idle the CPU matches the system/case temperature unless it is cycling down from high load. This represents a 8C improvement over the stock Wraith Spire. The CPU also cools off very quickly when a load is removed. In a sustained AIDA64 FPU stress test the average CPU temperature is 75C and average clock speed across all 12 cores is 4.2Hhz, a 400MHz boost from 3.8GHz stock clock. This is with automatic clock management, not manual overclocking. Stock, the processor would throttle on boosts and run much slower. That is one of the most intense thermal loads that can be placed on a processor. In single threaded benchmarks the processor boosts automatically to 4.65GHz max and 4.55GHz average clock. This is a few hundred MHz higher than the autoboosts I was getting with the stock cooler.Overall performance in both single and multi threaded CPU-Z benchmark improved by a solid 5% to the point that it beats the reference i9-9900KS benchmark in single threaded performance and absolutely wrecks Intel processors in multithreads. This cooler is sick. Adding it to my system was like upgrading to a whole new processor hundreds more expensive.

Using this with a ryzen 3700x as a replacement for the stock wrath cooler which when running at hi levels sounded like a jet taking off! Even though im useing both fans pegged at 100% the noise level is nothing more then a low hum, in fact i still check the speed via hardware moniter just to make sure they are working as im convinced its not its THAT silent.Heat wise when running heavy cpu useage (blender for example) it rarely tops 63 degrees where the stock would hit 85 (the throttle point is 90) this is mesured via the ryzen master program. The full black matches my build perfectly but the size gave me cause for concern, i have a Corsair Obsidian 750D (By no means a small case)and the hight clearance is about 5mm, mounting the brackets was simplisity itself however mounting the cooler to the brackets took three attemps, my advise is to get one side started by threading it just 1 half turn, any more makes it harder to get the other side on. Once on i would recomend 1 full turn per side untill fully threaded to ensure even spread. Oh also it comes with a tube of paste rarther then the pre apllyied "pad" most other coolers come with.Im so impressed im seriously considering buying one for my brothers pc as his also is a bit on the loud side once it starts getting warm.

there isn't really much I can say on my review that already hasn't been said for years about this CPU cooler. its huge, it cools very well, and its under $100 (at time of purchase) my only real complaint is that the serial numbers on top is an eyesore, but it was nothing my 9 year old, some rubbing alcohol and a microfiber cloth/cotton swab couldn't get rid of.installed this evening (thx other review with same setup that confirmed fit!) in:Fractal Designs Meshify C - case (tempered glass side version)MSI Tomahawk Maxryzen 5 3600Corsair Vengeance LPXthe fan that goes over the RAM has the slightest bit of overhang but no issues with the install or putting tempered glass side back on.one recommendation if installing in this setup. unless your motherboard is out of your case,be sure to attach your splitter and fans to the mobo before installing the CPU cooler or you are just going to end up removing it plugging it in and then reinstalling.I had heard good things about the stock cooler sent with the ryzen chips and decided foolishly to try it out instead of my older CM212+ - then reading up more on just how hot the chips tend to run I decided it was time to pony up the cash for this.if you can fit this in your case you should not be disappointed by the results!

Summary:If you are lucky and don't have issues installing it then this fan is the best and would get 5 starts for performanceHowever, had issues with installation so I have to remove a star for that.PRO:I had a crap cpu fan and less than ideal case airflow which kept my cpu at around 70 degrees. After I finally managed to install this CPU fan and added an additional fan to direct the fresh air straight into the cpu fan it went to down to 20 degrees which is amazing performance. New paste and added fans help but still, that is awesome for a cpu fan. With this I managed to OC the CPU by 1.2 GZ and temps are still low averaging 33 wile idle and 55 after a few hours under full load.CON:Whileinstalling the fan I noticed one of the two screws that is used to connect the fan to the cpu socket was defective.I should have returned it and asked for a replacement but since customer support was so slow I didn't want to wait a few more weeks. I had to improvise another way and after a few hours I managed to install it using my own screws and bolts. Also, the fan requires a stock AMD backplate in order to be installed which is not mentioned in the description of the item, only in the installation manual. I contacted Noactua and after about a week they sent me a backplate.

I heard so much about Notcua's NH-D15 chromax.Black and watched so many videos about its technical specs and ability to keep 10 gen Intel's CPUs quiet and cool that I did not hesitate to select this as my CPU air cooler. The unit is very easy to install and, when I raised the CPU clock on all cores by mistake to 4.9GHz when I was still tweaking the BIOS, the Noctua's fans kicked in really fast and I was impressed at the silence and at their ability to keep the beast CPU's temps low. I want to explore AIO coolers as well with time, but for a quick, easy and reliable cooling, solution this is it! I could not believe it!!The cost of this Noctua unit is very reasonable for the quality and the results.Kudos to Noctua! The only question I have is why the fans' cables are sticking out in the front when I think that in all the videos I saw they were connected to the back of the fans, towards the motherboard (not a major issue, just a curiosity). I would definitely buy this unit again and recommend it to anyone who needs a quiet, reliable and strong air cooling solution without too much fuss... My "beast" Intel CPU and I are both happy!
